Gonzales,18yearsoldandlivingindependentlyfor muchofthelast18months,wasinNakskovinsouthern DenmarkwithcolleaguesfromVestasBladesAmericas inWindsor.
Gonzales,whograduatedfromGreeleyCentralHigh inMay,hasbeenworkingforVestassinceJune2021as partofanadvancedmanufacturingapprenticeshipset upbyGreeley-EvansSchoolDistrict6andVestasin Windsor.Thepartnershipisaboutfouryearsold,but theapprenticeshipprogramwasregisteredwiththeU.S. DepartmentofLaborinOctober2019.

An apprenticeship includes paidwork experience, classroom instruction, mentorship andindustry credentials. Apprentices arerequiredtocompleteaminimumof2,000hoursof on-the-jobtrainingand144hoursofrelatedclassroom instruction.Uponsuccessfulcompletion,students earnacertificateofcompletionissuedbytheU.S. DepartmentofLabor.
GonzaleswasthefirstDistrict6studenttocomplete theprogram.ShefinishedtheapprenticeworkNov. 15duringNationalApprenticeshipWeek.Nov.17was "NationalWomeninApprenticeshipDay."

"I'mgivingthemhands-on,"Patchsaid."They'reworking onthemanufacturinglinewithamentor(atVestas)who helpsthem.I'mteachingthemthetrades.Mygoalisto bringthetradesbacktotheschools."
PatchdescribedGonzalesasdedicatedandverydriven.
"She'sthefaceoftheprogram,right?"headded."She finishedit.She'swhat,18,19yearsold,andshe'sbuzzing toDenmarkandsupportingusthere."
AlexandersaidGonzalestookatleastthreeclasseswith him.WhenGonzaleswasasophomore,sheapproached himabouttheapprenticeshipprogram.Alexander toldherhewasn'tinformedaboutit,buthe'dfind out.GonzalescontinuedtoaskAlexanderaboutthe apprenticeshipuntilshefoundoutwhatshewantedto know.

Alexandersaid hedidn'tdo anythingtospark Gonzales'interest inhisclassesor theindustry.

Gonzalesisanenthusiastic,energetic,matureandhighspiritedyoungwoman;aself-described"go-getter."She saidherbestfriendatVestasis75.Themajorityofher Vestascolleaguesaremen,andshewastheonlyfemale fromWindsortomakethetriptoDenmark.Whilethere, Gonzalesarrangedatripforthemtovisitareptilezooin Sweden.
