LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Michelle Brietzke

Before I opened my La Momo Maes business, I worked for a 2017 Chamber large corporaBoard Chair tion and did not know what a chamber of commerce was about or if the company was even a member in that city. If I had any thoughts about a chamber of commerce, it was maybe that a business joined because they wanted their name in a directory. I joined the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce a month before we opened for business and found that a chamber of commerce was so much more than a name in a directory! Businesses join the Chamber to get involved. How and at what level they are involved varies based on the needs of the business. Karen Mastie, the LACC’s Membership

Director, breaks down the definition of involvement for members and potential members in a couple of ways. One definition is “emotional or personal association with someone.” In the case of the LACC, that association is the membership itself. By making the decision to be a member, businesses and professionals are inherently involved, supporting a pro-business entity working to improve and support the business community. The second definition Karen talks about is “being involved with or participating in something.” This is where every members’ unique interests, goals, and availability come into play. Participation could be joining a leads group, sitting on the Public Policy committee as they assess legislation that affects business or working with the education committee as they build bridges between education and business. Encouraging a young professional in your office to join neXt, LACC’s young professionals group, for professional development of soft skills and helping them feel more at ease participating in Chamber events, is a great way to get involved and represent your business. Being a member of Ambassadors, the good will arm of the Chamber assisting

at the 300+ events and meetings, is ideal for the professional who wants to be on a first name basis with other members and develop working relationships that help grow business. However, the chamber is more than the sum of its 300+ events and 740 members. There are many opportunities to engage the audience the Chamber has built. Use the Chamber as a marketing platform by sending event and promotional materials to be posted on Facebook or mentioned in the weekly e-news to over 2,900 business contacts. If you do not have time to sit on a committee, you may choose to sponsor one! Want to connect with new businesses? You can sponsor a New Member Orientation. Also, the four premier Chamber events put you in front of hundreds, even thousands, of people and are excellent ways to market your business. The Longmont Chamber is contantly evolving with feedback and input from our members. If you feel there is something missing in your membership, or there is a need for businesses that no one is addressing, give the Chamber staff a call. The Chamber is working for you, as the voice of business in the community!
