Florence Senior Community Center

We were established in 1979 for the purpose of serving the senior citizens of Florence, Fremont County, and adjacent areas. You can find us in the historic Denver & Rio Grande Railroad station located at the end of Pikes Peak Avenue We are a non-profit organization created for people over 50 who want to socialize with friends and neighbors, attend organized activities and events, dance, sing, and just have fun Although you must be 50+ to be a Center member, the Center is open to the public to join in all offered activities and will be heartily welcomed by our membership. Most activities suggest a $3 donation to help cover our operating expenses Since we are non-profit and are supported by grants and donations, we hold several fundraisers during the year. They include: Book Sales, Garage Sales, In-House auctions,

Craft Fairs and any other way our volunteers can think of to raise funds We would love to have many new members with some more good ideas join us Anutritional lunch is served onTuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to anyone in the community over age 60 Coming to lunch is a great way to meet new friends & visit with old acquaintances These lunches, prepared by staff and volunteers of the UpperArkansasAreaAgency onAging, have made it possible for many in the community to eat healthy and to live in their homes independently We provide meeting space to other community organizations such asAA,Al-Anon andACA Our two large rooms are also available to rent by the hour for private functions

Trampled Rose INC

What they do: Presurgery fistula care, postsurgery Rehabilitation for women already suffering from a fistula Prevention of new fistula cases. The Ethiopian Government legislated and enforced a law against early marriage (the legal age is now 18). This has resulted in agreat drop of new fistula cases but it has left those girls who wereplanning to get married with awhole new future. Becky is still passionate that “prevention really is better than acure” The crisis has moved from housing women with fistula to how to keep them from developing fistula in the first place. The most effective way is keeping girls in school and giving their little bodiesand minds achancetomature. Providing ameans for these girls to stay in school is nowthe focus of Trampled Rose. By providing each Trampled Rose girl with $25 per month, we empower them to buy school supplies, textbooks, menstrual care, shelter, orfood to keep them successful in the classroom.
