Linda Jill (Partrick) Camper passed away at home September 13, 2019. Linda was born January 29th 1939 in Rochester Michigan to Clarence Henry and Delta Pearl Partrick. She married Don Camper on August 19, 1961 and moved to Westcliffe in 1968 where they owned and operated Don Camper Truck line Inc. for many years with Linda as the secretary and bookkeeper. While Linda enjoyed doing bookwork, she also enjoyed writing letters sending out over 80 every week. She had a passion for the arts and a deep love for Christ. Dale Grimshaw passed away at the age of 65 on September 11, 2019 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born to William and Twiliah Grimshaw on July 16, 1954 at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss. Dale was one of the greatest men a lot of us knew. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Dale served in the Air Force as a Carpentry Specialist. Dale (also known as Mr. Bridge) worked for The Royal Gorge Bridge for the last 38 years. Dale was a master carpenter who enjoyed using his knowledge and creativity to build

beautiful things both at the Gorge and for many others around him. Besides spending time with his family Dale truly enjoyed playing pool, playing in his band, and listening to Pink Floyd. His survivors include his wife Lisa Grimshaw, his children Autumn (Brian) Seidling, Amber (Zack) Schmoyer, and Caleb Butcher. Along with 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, 2 great-granddaughters and 3 sisters, Willy, Marty and Cindy. He was preceded in death by both his parents and multiple family members.

Cañon City to begin soliciting developers for former Constantino’s property By Carie Canterbury The Daily Record Final clean-up of the former Constantino’s property is nearing completion and the city soon will be soliciting developers for the site that is one of the ﬁrst things motorists see when entering town from the west. There were no action items during Monday’s Cañon City Council meeting, but Acting City Administrator Ryan Stevens gave an update on several items, including the proposed development of the now-vacant property. He said before the city moves forward with any improvements to the site, staff will be completing survey work and

making any necessary lot line adjustments to the parcel. Staff also will develop a request for proposal to see if there are any opportunities for the development of the site before any steps are taken toward making it a parking lot. “We don’t want to go pave it if there’s somebody else out there that wants to use it right away,” he said after the meeting. “We are going to kind of dip our toe in the water and see if there are any developers out there that have immediate interest in developing it.” An RFP should be ready to be issued to the public in early 2020, Stevens said. Stevens also announced that the Colorado Department of Local Affairs will

offer a presentation on the Colorado Main Street program from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Fremont Center for the Arts, located at 505 Macon Ave. Hosted by the Cañon City Economic Development, this presentation will be in conjunction with the Downtown Business Alliance. Cañon City has become an afﬁliate member of the Colorado Main Street program and this meeting will discuss the levels of membership and the tools available to help develop downtown. It comes on the heels of the Small Business Revolution earlier this year. DOLA representatives will explain the Colorado Main Street program and how it might help in the next evolution of business in downtown Cañon

City. Stevens said Cañon City became an afﬁliate member of the Colorado Main Street program earlier this year and this meeting will discuss the levels of membership and the tools available to help develop downtown. “Business owners and those who are very interested in downtown should probably attend,” he said. “This is different than the old Main Street program that the city used to participate in. 17th annual Winemaker’s Dinner set for Sept. 27 The 2019 Winemaker’s Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park’s Café 1230, spectacularly situated 1,230 feet above the Arkansas River. Commissioners attend State Leadership Day at the White House in Washington, D.C. Special to the Daily Record

Fremont County Commissioners Dwayne McFall, Tim Payne and Debbie Bell joined about 180 other local elected officials from seven western states for the opportunity to build bipartisan relationships with federal officials, while advancing shared priorities in the nation’s capital. “We were pleased to be able to join this event to discuss challenges we all share,” Bell said. “We not only listened to presentations from federal officials at the highest levels, but we had the opportunity to engage with them and ask questions relevant to Fremont County. We also received contact information for many of the folks in Intergovernmental Affairs, allowing us to contact them in the future for one-onone discussions.” The highlight of the day was a visit with Vice President Mike Pence, who was not on the agenda but surprised the group with a brief update. He said six million new jobs have been created since the current administration took office. He also discussed the importance of governmental investment in infrastructure, workforce, and safety, and said he understands the significance of collaboration between all levels of government. “We must empower our local communities,” Pence said. He also thanked the commissioners present, as well as their families for their shared sacrifice in public service. The other highest-ranking official to engage in the conversation was Secretary David Bernhardt, Department of the Interior and a member of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet. Bernhardt explained changes in his department with the Trump administration, including procedural changes. “The Environmental Impact Statement review process has gone from an average of 199 days to just 32 days since the President took office,” Bernhardt said. “There have been no regulation changes, it’s just the process that is different.” Bernhardt also said he believed the

Bureau of Land Management should be located in the western United States and not Washington, D.C. because most public lands are in the west. “We are moving BLM headquarters to Grand Junction, Colorado,” he said. “We are signing the lease (this) week.” Bernhardt explained mid- to upper-management currently is not sustainable because no one interested in public lands wants to live in Washington. The Commissioners also heard from upper management in diverse departments, including budget, transportation, housing and urban development, parks and wildlife, and American innovation. Chris French, Acting Deputy Chief of the National Forest System, said the ad-

ministration wants to bring back productivity of the forests to help support local economies. He discussed a shared stewardship with local entities as well as a new emphasis on customer service. Another speaker, Director of Selective Service Don Benton, presented information about the importance of signing up for the Selective Service. He said if men are not registered before they turn 26, they cannot be employed by the federal government or any federal contracting agencies, including UPS and FedEx, amongst many others. “There are no federal grants for college if you have not registered,” Benton said. He said this equates to more than $10,800

per person in lost ﬁnancial aid and other funding that each person that would otherwise be eligible. “Kids who drop out of high school are at the biggest risk for not registering,” the director said, adding 92 percent of registration is now completed online. “It takes 45 seconds to save a man 45 years of heartache.” The event was organized by White House staff in cooperation with the National Association of Counties, which is headquartered in the nation’s capital. In addition to Commissioners from Colorado, the other six states invited to this State Leadership Day were Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.

18th annual Fremont County Senior Fair set for Sept. 27 Fall is just around the corner, which means it’s time for the 18th annual Fremont County Senior Fair. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 at Evangelical-Free Church located at 3000 E. Main. St. in Canon City. There is no charge to attend so seniors will enjoy free admission, as well as give-aways and door prizes. This community collaborative event is presented each year to provide seniors with safety, health and well-being education and resources that can help improve their quality of life and keep them active.

About 40 senior resource vendors will participate, including blood pressure screens, fall risk screens, mindfulness, and much, much more. “The senior fair is the premier event for seniors throughout Fremont County, serving several hundred seniors each year,” said Sarah Martinez, event coordinator and Community Liaison at Frontier Home Health & Hospice. “It presents seniors with community resources and the opportunity to interact with local health and safety experts, all under one roof, which is a tremendous beneﬁt.”

The fair offers a wide variety of vendors with resources that are meaningful to seniors and what the community has to offer. Martinez said lunch will be provided by St. Thomas More Dining Services. This year’s physician speaker will be Dr. Mohammad Bakkar with general surgery, covering the topic of gastrointestinal health. Seniors interested are encouraged to register for lunch at the information desk upon entrance into the senior fair to secure their seat. Seating is limited. Kids Klub site leader Kids Klub is hiring Site Leaders. This is a part-time position of 15 to 30 hours per week, primarily working from 6:45 - 8:00 am and 2:45 - 6 pm during the school year. During the summer up to 40-hours per week is possible. Duties: Work with children in a before and after school childcare setting at local elementary schools. Care for children ages 5-12.
