October 12, 1949 ~ February 26, 2019 "Bob" "Bobby", Father and Grandfather&m dash;titles of a well a respected and widely known man is to be celebrated. Bob was born in 1949, October 12th to Tony and Mary Beltramo. Bob grew up in Canon with his older brother Joe and Colarelli cousins where he attended the Holy Abby and graduated high school. Bob would go on to be a successor to his father's company where he would dedicate many years of hard work. Throughout the years Bob has created a plethora of heart felt and kindred relationships that will be momentously missed by so many. Bob was
passionate about his life's work and positive change in people and his loved ones. He is preceded in death by Sheila Beltramo and leaves his legacy to his four children: Bobbi Jo Mcgarry, Ruby, Mia and Tony Beltramo; three grandchildren: Andrea, Olivia and Max and great grandchildren Sebastian and Maclovio. A service is scheduled for Friday March 8th, 10:00 am at St Michael Catholic Church, Canon City. A reception will follow in Pueblo, CO. Services have been entrusted to Holt Funeral Home. Max Eugene Munson, Sr. Max Eugene Munson, Sr., age 85, a longtime resident of Irving, died Monday, March 4, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Alamota, Kansas, he was the son of the late Harold B. Munson and Parthenia D. McMillin Munson. He served in the U S Navy in the 7th Fleet on the USS Randolph during the Korean Conflict. He was in sales most of his life and owned his own business suppling nuts, bolts and other fasteners. Preceded in death by his son Max E. Munson, Jr. in 2015, he is survived by his wife
of 63 years, Wilma; son Garry and wife Sandra; daughter Dianna and husband Greg; brother Roland and wife Lillian; sister Phyllis; sisters-in-law, Geneva, Lola, Verda Mae, and Vera and husband Jim; grandchildren, Lindsey and husband Adam, Jennifer and husband Marcus, and Leevi; great grandchildren, Isaac, Oliver, Walker, Asher, Canaan and Bella. A service with Navy Honors will be 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, TX.
Walter (Wally) Delano Overbey March 21, 1934 - February 28, 2019
Wally was born on March 21, 1934 to Walter and Santa (Alfano) Overbey in Chicago, ILL. He married Patty (Kelly) Overbey on August 31, 1957. They had two sons, David and Robert. Wally died peacefully at home on February 28, 2019. No one has ever handled being in a wheelchair for over 55 years with such amazing grace and dignity.
Wally is survived by his wife Patty, son David (Sue), grandchildren, Melissa, Britney, Dalton, Shawn (Shantel), Shane (Val), Julie and Gannon. Great grand children, Xavier, Isabella, Shawn, Johnny, Zane, Scarlett, and Rowan. Special nephews Mark (Sunnie) Cursio and Vincent (John) Cursio.

January 3, 1969 - March, 5, 2019 Les passed away on March, 5, 2019 in Florence, Colorado. He was born in Leadville, Colorado on Jan 3, 1969. He lived in Colorado until 1985, at which time he moved to Arizona where he lived in Phoenix, and then Prescott until June 2017. He missed the Colorado mountains and moved to Florence, Colorado. He received an Auto Mechanics degree from AAI in Phoenix. He also went to Yavapai College for a degree in Photography. Les enjoyed riding his Harley & taking his Dachshund on rides with him, along with his camera and taking lots
of pictures everywhere they went. He also enjoyed fishing & camping with his father. Les touched many lives & he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his parents, Brenda & Court Stringer; a sister, Sherri Plummer; a daughter, Jamaica Festge & her 3 sons. He also had 3 sons, Robert Todd, Logan Dittmar and Vincent Limon; aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Request no flowers please. Rosalie A. Loehr, 76, of Canon City, passed away 2/21/19. She was born in Colorado Springs on 8/15/42. Rosalie attended Falcon High School. She was married to Ronald Loehr on 8/20/66 Rosalie was a homemaker. She had a passion for rubber stamping, baking, and
traveling. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Loehr; her children Deanna Johnson, Bill Kibler, and Heidi; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and her brother Harold Daniels. Services will be held at 10am on 3/9/19 at Swan Law Funeral Directors.
Alice Meta (Bugher) Van Loo 1914 - 2019
Alice Meta (Bugher) Van Loo was born on a homestead in Holyoke, Colorado on September 26, 1914. She moved to Florence when she was five years old. On September 24, 1931 she married Louie Van Loo and they moved to Canon City in 1941. She is survived by two daughters, Diann (Harold) Tuttle and Charlotte Siewert, four grandchildren, nine
great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson. The world will miss her rambunctious spirit. A graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City at 1pm on Friday, March 8. Services entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.

Norman Ray Shoemaker April 30, 1954 ~ February 24, 2019
Norman Ray Shoemaker, 64, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2019. He was born April 30, 1954, in Kyle, Texas to Harold and Doris (nee Dees) Shoemaker. Norman sacrificed his last year of high school to join the United States Navy and proudly served during the Vietnam War as an electrician's mate on the U.S.S. Dubuque from 1971 to 1973. After the war, Norman settled in Nacogdoches, Texas, later moving to nearby Woden. He was active in the community, had a giving spirit, and was always helping those in need. He and his neighbor, Dennis Massey, founded Boy Scout Troop 170. Norman acted as the first Scoutmaster, holding meetings with the first two scouts on his back porch until the Woden Independent School District (ISD) allowed meetings on school campus. Norman was a long-time employee of Lufkin Industries. He also worked for Woden ISD for many years, often working late or on weekends finishing projects requested by teachers for their classrooms. Outside of work, Norman had many interests including fishing, photography, electronics, and music. He was a member of the Texas Bluebird Society, Local Post Collector Society, and Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association. Norman fulfilled a long-time goal when he moved to Colorado in 2015. He settled in Canon City, Colorado, helping his uncle and aunt, Bob and Helen Shoemaker, with daily operations of the Chess-Shoemaker Ranch at Garden Park. He loved working on the ranch and spending time with his Uncle Bob. He was working on his latest irrigation project the day before he was taken ill. He is survived by his beloved wife, Katrina (nee Whitney)

venture Rec has contributed a lot of money for trail maintenance in the area, we would be willing to do the same,” she said. “We have contributed tens of thousands of volunteer hours over the years for trail maintenance, so if it’s an issue of trail maintenance and Fremont Adventure Rec flexing their muscles and giving more money to you, we can match that.” Ashlee Sack, the coordinator of Fremont Adventure Recreation, who is a partner with the community’s trail system development, told the Daily Record after the meeting that FAR did not instigate the livestock ordinance, but she does stand in support of the city’s park department’s request. FAR member Brian LeDoux said by the end of the year nearly $100,000 will have been invested in the system. “Protecting that investment and that work is something that my organization and the city are invested in doing,” Sack said. “We are not trying to take over the world, we are not trying to take over Fremont County, we are just trying to build a really beautiful trail system for bikers that is world-class, and it costs a lot of money.” O’Rourke pointed out that within Fremont County, there are 13 public areas for horseback
riding and only two trails where it is restricted. The city, FAR and the Rocky Mountain Back Country Horsemen are expected to get together to further discuss trails for horses. Also during the meeting, the council by majority vote rejected a proposed stormwater utility fee credit program for commercial properties that operate and maintain private stormwater detention and/or water quality facilities. Some of the council members didn’t want to have to raise customer fees to make up the difference, and others didn’t feel comfortable dipping into the general fund to make up the difference. The council did approve a stormwater certificate of participation funded project priority, which was recommended by a citizen committee that worked with city staff to prioritize and recommend projects. The committee chose the following four stormwater basins on which to concentrate: Dawson Ranch Basin ($868,780), Abbey Drainage Basin ($901,800), North Ninth Street Basin ($3.8 million), and Northeast Cañon Basin ($2.9 million). In other business the council took the following action: — Appointed Tammy Nordyke as the Director of Finance. She
will replace Harry Patel, who is retiring April 3 after 22 years with the City of Cañon City. — Previewed a one-year agreement for financial and inkind support between the city and Fremont Center for the Arts in an amount not to exceed $43,245. This changes the previously approved business plan that called for the city to merge the FCA into the City of Cañon City government to ensure financial stability. Smith said Unbridled is in the process of purchasing the FCA’s building, and then FCA will rent space from Unbridled. She said Unbridled plans to use the facility as an event center in conjunction with the Hotel St. Cloud. The agreement will be brought before the council at the next meeting. — Confirmed the appointment of Cindy Foster-Owens as City Clerk. — Appointed Barb Dittmar to the Library Museum Board. — Authorized the city administrator to sign a contract with American Builders, LLC to commence the Royal Gorge Park Trestle Bridge Project for a total amount not to exceed $75,350. — Authorized the city administrator to sign a professional services agreement with Collins Engineers, Inc. in the amount of $29,622 for pedestrian bridge ratings and inspections.

Cash-out refinancing can be a costly mistake
(BPT) - After years of making regular mortgage payments, it feels good to watch your net worth make upward progress. That’s especially true if your house is also gaining value. With a growing amount of equity comes peace of mind, knowing you have the option of tapping into it when you want. Whether it’s time for a new roof or you need to consolidate debt, you may see a traditional cash-out mortgage refinance as the ideal tool to access the money you need. However, if you’re considering a cash-out refi, you may be unaware of some of the pitfalls, or you may not know about the alternative solutions that might work in your financial favor. With a cash-out refi, homeowners can borrow against the equity in their home by taking out a new mortgage loan. This new loan includes the original loan balance and the additional amount borrowed against the equity. “On the surface, a cash-out refi loan appears to be the better option because these tend to have
better interest rates compared to other types of loans, especially credit cards and personal loans,” says Wendy Harrington, chief marketing officer at Figure Technologies, a company that offers lending solutions to homeowners. “However, these can end up costing more than homeowners expect, and it’s important to take time to understand what comes with the territory.” Harrington offers three things all homeowners need to consider before they opt for a cash-out refi loan: Interest rates are rising: After enjoying historical lows, mortgage interest rates have reached 5 percent, the highest in eight years, according to the Washington Post. With a cash-out refi, homeowners face trading their lower interest rate for a higher one. Less convenient than other loan products: The application and approval process for a cashout is anything but efficient, thanks to time-consuming activities like property appraisals and in-person closings. In all, the loan process can take anywhere from
30-60 days. Additional fees: Borrowers often don’t realize that cash-out refis come with closing fees for such things as appraisals, title searches and credit reports, adding another layer of cost to the loan. A smarter solution that can potentially spare borrowers thousands in interest cost, according to Harrington, is a home equity loan. Instead of starting over with a new mortgage, you’d simply take out a separate loan against the equity in your property. This option lets you keep your mortgage interest rate. To make things more clear, here’s a comparison of how the two loans could affect a homeowner like you. Let’s say you took out a $175,000 mortgage six years ago at 3.625 percent interest. After making monthly payments of $798, your balance is $153,365. Now you’re looking to do some renovations and pay off some credit card debt, and you need to borrow $75,000. With your home valued at $300,000, there’s more than enough equity.
With a cash-out re-fi loan, you’d “reset” your mortgage balance at $228,365 with an interest rate of, say, 5.75 percent interest. That brings your monthly payment to $1,333, but in 30 years, when the mortgage is paid off, total interest comes to $287,225 (that’s the interest you paid on your original mortgage and the interest you’ll pay with the refinanced loan). With a $75,000 home equity loan, you may receive a higher rate, but it applies to a much smaller loan amount. If you secured a home equity loan at 9.0 percent APR, your monthly payment for your mortgage and equity loan combined would be slightly higher at $1,559. However, the term of your equity loan is 15 years, and your mortgage is still on track to being paid off in 24 years. In all, your total interest payments come to $174,238 (original mortgage plus home equity loan). Bottom line: In this scenario, a home equity loan comes out as the better financial decision, because not only are you finished
paying six years earlier, you would save $112,987 in interest alone. Another upside to using solutions other than cash-out refis is that there are now convenient and fast solutions that let borrowers access their equity with ease.
