Message from Create Cañon City...

Welcome to the 2016 Create Cañon City Balloon Classic.

This will be the third year of our event and it continues to get better and better every year. The 2016 event will be held exclusively on the campus

of the Holy Cross Abbey. The changes will keep all of the festivities in one convenient location which will limit the distance between events, but improve the fun. Families will still be able to enjoy all of

children friendly activities that we have had before and the adults will be able to enjoy libations and music into an expanded evening schedule.

Please join us in celebrating Memorial Day Weekend 2016!

Create Cañon City is based on the concept of collaboration in our local area and an honest “barn raising” mentality. Our founders believe that if one person could accomplish an objective over a long period of time, a group of like minded people could accomplish the same task much sooner and with better results. The Create Cañon City Balloon Classic is a great example of that collaborative spirit in our community.

Not only does the CCCBC team now include dozens of volunteers working together, it also includes a tremendous group of sponsors, balloon teams, elected officials, local citizens, vendors and participants from all over the Country.

The event is now responsible for uniting a diverse group of people for the sole purpose of improving the economic outlook for Fremont County and Southern Colorado.

Music Lineup Saturday, May 28th Fort Carson Brass Quintet – 12:45 - 2:00 Fort Carson’s own 4th Infantry Division Brass Band Quintet will perform classical, patriotic, and jazz music. “TThe 4th Infantryy Divission Band is composedd off Soldiers who serve the US Army by providing music to instill in our Soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote our national interests at home and abroad” …SPC Jacob Carlisle, Fort Carson.

Spinphony – 2:00 - 4:00 Spinphony is a cutting edge ‘Pop Baroque’ fusion group consisting of four virtuosic string players and a DJ. Spinphony founder Brett Omara writes arrangements blending well known classical pieces into pop hits to create unique high energy mash ups that appeal to all generations. By combining both complex classical pieces, great pop hits, and added elements such as choreography, DJ, and lights, the Spinphony show is revolutionizing the world of string music.

Rvzoo and the Sugar Spun Elephant Band – 5:00 - 7:00 DaveArvizu,a.k.a.Rvzoo,has been performing professionally since the age of 13 years old.Rvzoo started playing with his Dad’s combo whom they would play everything from Country and Western,Waltz’s, Polkas, 50’s rock and roll playing at VFW’s and Elks Clubs etc. Rvzoo continued to be in bands during high school and played with the band, Under the Ice, in NYC playing CBGB’S and The Bitter End. After departing NYC, Rvzoo formed the highly successful band here in Colorado Springs with his brother called, “Big Back Yard”, which won numerous “BEST OF” awards with The Independent Newspaper.

In 2001, Rvzoo was awarded best “Solo Performer” by the Independent. Also, he was a semi-finalist for Borders in the Singer-Songwriter contest judged by Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello, and Chris Isaak. Currently, Rvzoo leads the band called, Rvzoo and The Sugar Spun Elephant Band which have been featured on the “Studio Bee” Series, At the Pikes Peak Center. Rvzoo and The Sugar Spun Elephant recently released their debut CD Single, “When I Was Young,” which has been getting rave reviews and radio airplay. They will be featured on The Denver Loft Sessions on Channel 8 PBS and Comcast TV for an upcoming broadcast.

Chris Daniels and the Kings with Freddi Gower – 8:00 - 10:00 Chris Daniels & the Kings have entertained fans from Colorado to Amsterdam with a souped-up mix of jump blues, blue-eyed soul and horn infused rock. They formed in 1984 as a rhythm & blues horn band for what was supposed to be a one-night-stand at the Blue Note in Boulder. More than three decades later they have produced 14 albums (their newest FUNKY TO THE BONE), toured Europe 21 times and had their music on TV and radio all over the world. They remain a top local concert draw in the mountain West playing Red Rocks, City Park Jazz and Cherry Creek Arts Festival to name only a few.

In 2012 Chris was nominated for a Grammy and in 2013 Chris was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame with John Denver, Judy Collins, Poco and so many more.

“Chris Daniels & the Kings with Freddi Gowdy (from the famed Freddi Henchi Band) is funk & roll upbeat soul music designed to make people smile as they head to the dance floor whether it’s ‘jump blues’ from Louie Louie, (done in tribute to Louis Jordan, Louis Prima and Louis Armstrong) or rock ‘n’ roll with horns like “FUNKY TO THE BONE”. Their dance music is just plain good for the soul.” (Westword) With Chris and the remarkable Freddi Gowdy on vocals, the Kings include: Freddi on vocals, Daniels on vocals and guitar, Colin “Bones” Jones, lead guitar; Randy Amen, drums & vocals; Kevin “Bro” Lege on bass and vocals, Darryl “Doody” Abrahamson; trumpet and vocals and Jim Waddell, alto, tenor sax, flute & vocals.

Hammerstadt iss a four-ppiece electtriic ensemble dedicated to the performance of blues, rock, jazz and fusion music.The sonic similarities can be likened to the sounds of Jeff Beck, Santana, Allman Brothers, Dixie Dregs, and Larry Carlton as well as many others. Hammerstadt is an instrumental group focused on the performance of original music but also known for their arrangements of classic songs from a variety of genres.The group is comprised of:Wayne Hammerstadt, guitars; Paul Haller, keyboards; James Dikes, bass; Dewey Steele, drums. As seasoned, professional musicians the members of Hammerstadt are eager to share their love of music and passion for live performance. Hammerstadt is truly a unique group with a fresh approach to tried and true musical idioms.

Wendy Wood Band – 5:00 - 7:00 Wendy Woo attended both the University of New Mexico and the University of Colorado, where she studied a variety of musical genres,theory and composition.Her many musical influences include everyone from folk chanteuse Suzanne Vega to the legendary Paul Simon. The trademark blended rhythms in Simon’s music inspired her to add similar complexity to her own compositions. With this in mind, Wendy developed a technique she calls “Slaptap,” a method of creating a captivating visual and percussive backdrop using the guitar body and fret board. Her versatility is evident by the wide variety of artists whom Wendy has since shared the stage, including The Fray, Sarah McLachlan, Indigo Girls, James Taylor, Counting Crows, Brad Paisley, Karla Bono and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Wendy has also been named Westword Magazine’s Music Awards “Singer/Songwriter of the year” five separate times, resulting in her induction into Westword’s Hall of Fame.

The Wendy Woo Band is a poly-ethnic, power pop, song-rock, 6 piece band with sweet vocal harmonies and shuddering grooves. Wendy has performed at top venues across the country including the Fox Theater and Red Rocks in Colorado, the Bitter End and the Living Room in New York, the Hotel Cafe in Los Angles, the Bluebird Café in Nashville, Sweetwater in Mill Valley, and Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia. Anticipating the rise of the independent artist, Woo formed her own corporation, Woo Music. Through that she runs her own record label (13 projects to date), publishing company, booking agency, and management company.

The Inman Brothers Band – 8:00 - 10:00 Founded in the late 70’s, the 5 piece southern rock band is based in Colorado Springs. The IBB is a combination of some of the finest seasoned musicians in the state. They have shared the stage with such national acts as Kansas, B.T.O, Firefall, The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Night Ranger, Eddie Money, Steppin’ Wolf, The Marshall Tucker Band and others. From grand stands at the state fair to music festivals up and down the Front Range, The Inman Brothers Band is a Colorado favorite!!!

New members with R/C model flying experience are required to demonstrate their flying competence to any of the club instructors. Once certified by an instructor the member has full access to the flying site.

All flyers are required to comply with the AMA Safety Code as well as the club’s additional safety rules and procedures. New members without R/C model flying experience have access to training assistance through the club’s training program.

Fremont County RC Club has been in at least three locations. The first location was south of Florence and just south of the Cemetery. The club then was pushed out of that location and moved to a small area by Portland Cement Plant. Then in about 1995 the club made arrangements with the Fremont County Airport to put our runway parallel with theirs and that’s where we are still today.

Fremont County Airport 60298 Highway 50 Penrose, CO 81240-9513 Seven miles East on Hwy 50 from Canon City, 5 miles West from Penrose Hwy 115 on Hwy 50. Upon reaching the airport main entrance continue about 1/3 mile as the road turns to the east.

FCRCC airfield is located about 4 miles East of Canon City on State Hwy 67. We are about one mile South of the Fremont County airport. We have an 800 foot dirt runway running east/west, 7 pit area tables, impound building, and storage building with shaded picnic area. Flying is restricted to radio controlled powered model airplanes and helicopters. Because of the proximity to the airport, flying altitude is restricted to approximately 400’ and below while yielding the right of way to full size aircraft operations. Our runway is at 5,429’ above MSL. During the winter season through the end of May the club has access to a local gymnasium for indoor flying.
