Cheryl Christine Ryan August 22, 1956 - August 5, 2018
Cheryl Christine Ryan (Harmon) passed suddenly on August 5, 2018. The youngest of 4 children, she was born on August 22, 1956 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Cheryl grew up in Florissant, Colorado spending her days riding her pony, Silver. She was also named Teller County Fair Queen before graduating from Woodland Park High School in 1974. Cheryl spent much of her adult life serving the community by working for the City of Florence in Florence, Colorado. While there she greatly enjoyed her work as the city's Animal Control Officer where her love for all animals played a big role. In December of 2003, Cheryl was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer and had undergone both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Cheryl went into remission in 2004 and continued to live cancer free for the remainder of her life. She will be
remembered for her love of her family and pets. She loved spoiling her many grandchildren, and not a day went by where she didn't have a furry companion by her side. She is survived by her daughter Carrie Sharon (Matthew), sister Kathy Lester (Jimmy), brother Andy Harmon (Terry), step-children John Winkler (Jonika), Angela Donovan (Tim), and Joseph Winkler, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her mother and father, and her brother David Harmon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Cheryl Ryan Memorial Fund at Power Credit Union to help the family with final expenses. Cecilia "Fifi" Dye Parks Cecilia "Fifi" Dye Parks, 79, died Aug. 12, 2018. Survived by her sister, Betty (Jerome) Birkenfeld; brother, Toby Friemel; her children, John (Hilary) Dye, Deborah (Dan) Morton, Shelly (Scott) Clark, Becky (Scott) Wright, and Steven (Leeann) Dye; stepchildren, Julianna (Randy) Cole, Michael (Melissa) Parks. Preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, John Dye; her second husband of 15 years, Robert Parks; her siblings, Louise Craddock, Richard Friemel, and Maggie Hill; and her stepson, Thomas Parks. Fifi was born June 26, 1939, to Frederick and Mary Friemel in Amarillo, Texas. Fifi and John raised their family in Florence, Colo. before retiring to Pueblo. Fifi loved life. In her words "I will live until I die" and boy did she live! She enjoyed activities, family, and friends to the fullest. One of her greatest
loves was golf. She took up golfing after her first husband retired and was hooked for life. She was an award winning golfer, but if there were awards given for being a mother, grandmother, aunt or friend she would have won those too. She touched more lives than we can ever know. She will be missed. She was a member of the Pueblo Country Club, Holydot 18 Holers, 39ers, Eagles, and PCC Women's Bowling League among others. Council moves forward with project to improve safety near CCMS Carie Canterbury The Daily Record
Plans to move forward with the Safe Routes to School safety improvement project in the 1200 block of Main Street likely will move forward in the summer of 2019. Mayor Preston Troutman, members of the Cañon City Council and city administrators met with downtown merchants during a special meeting Tuesday to discuss downtown development and other related issues. Council members approved one of the two proposed design options presented aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety in the 1200 block of Main Street, especially for students at Cañon City Middle School. The Cañon City General Government Committee in February, by majority polling, felt because of some of the negative feedback they had received from constituents regarding the curb extensions on Main Street, decided to delay the project that originally was slated to take place this summer. The new design presented Tuesday would widen the street, which would allow a street width of 32 feet, resulting in a total of four feet of clear space between the turning vehicle and curb. This will lengthen the crossing distance and move the pedestrian back a little more from view depending on sight distances, however, it will be greatly improved over current conditions, Lancaster said. During the February meeting, City Administrator Tony O’Rourke said the total project was set to cost about $500,000 — of that, the Colorado Department of Transportation would fund about $160,000. The majority of the cost would be for pavement. As the project changes, the costs likely will, as well, City Engineer Adam Lancaster said. Lancaster said this safety effort began in 2012 when a committee of concerned citizens, parents and school representa-

Econome said she also will help start a mountain biking club at CCHS with Melanie Smith. Some of Econome’s proudest achievements have been working on the BEST grants, mill levy override and the bond issues. “To see all of that go through successfully has been amazing,” Econome said. Superintendent George Welsh praised Econome’s role in helping the district secure voter approval to rebuild CCMS and Washington Elementary School. The projects could be completed
by the 2019-2020 school year. “I personally think that we’re not getting these two new schools if it’s not for the help and influence from Kristyn,” Welsh said. Econome is leaving with one year left on her term, and the school board will begin the process to fill her seat. In a press release, the district stated to be considered to fill the seat, a person must be a registered voter residing within school district boundaries for at least one year prior to taking office and never have been convicted of a
sexual offense against a child. The district asks interested persons to submit a letter of introduction to the district office by 4 p.m. Sept. 7. The four remaining board directors will conduct interviews from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 18 and Sept. 19 with the goal of appointing a replacement Sept. 24. If a majority of the board can not agree on a single candidate within a 60-day time frame, state law allows the board president, in this case Larry Oddo, to make the appointment.

Gene and Carolyn (Baublits) Lutz of Cañon City, Colorado, celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple were married August 31, 1958 at the United Methodist Church in Las Animas, Colorado. They celebrated the occasion with 50 family members in July at the Lutz family reunion in La Junta. They will celebrate with immediate family at a later date. Their children are Melodee (Rod) Ellis of Aurora, Colorado, and Kimberlee Bennett of Holyoke, Colorado. Also, granddaughter Marissa Ellis, grandsons Preston and Kiley Ellis, plus 2 great-granddaughters. Gene is retired from 35 years of service in the United States Department of Agriculture (ASCS) working in Las Animas, Eads, Holyoke, and Cañon City. Gene was a 23 year member of the Colorado Army National Guard. Carolyn is a retired bookkeeper. The couple will take a trip through the Canadian Rockies in September.
