July 8, 1935 - December 23, 2018 Frank E. Boben, 83, of Cañon City Colorado, died peacefully at home on December 23, 2018. The middle of three children, Frank was born July 8, 1935, in Pueblo Colorado to Frank and Stephania Boben. Frank graduated high school from the Abbey. A lifelong learner and teacher to all, Frank received his BA in education from the University of Colorado in 1959 and his MA in education from Western State College in 1965. Frank was an enthusiastic sports fan who always rooted for his local Colorado teams. He was a consummate sportsman, who loved fishing hunting and the outdoors. He enjoyed years of hiking, hunting and fishing with his family and friends. His last elk hunting trip was this season with his beloved nephews Bob and Steve. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Stephania Boben, and his brothers Bill (Mary) Boben, and John (Kay) Boben. He is

survived by nephews and nieces, Bob Boben, Steve (Robin) Boben, Mary (Bob Thrift) Boben, Ralph (Natalie) Cline, Connie Linam, Diana ( Chuck) Skerjanec, and Lorita Dill, as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Additionally, Frank is survived by extended family and extremely good friends Frank and Janie Adamic. Arthur Henry Caldwell November 17, 1935 ~ December 26, 2018

Arthur Henry Caldwell was born on November 17, 1935 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Robert and Ruth (Balsom) Caldwell. Growing up on a large farm located on the banks of Lake Winnebago, Arthur very much loved the environment he was blessed to experience and how it set him on a path of leadership. He became active in school with the FFA and later was active in 4-H as a beef leader. Upon graduating school he would go on to serve our country giving 25 years in military service retiring as a full Army Colonel. After his military service he began a career as a government contractor and program director all

over the United States. Arthur is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores Ann (Klomp) Caldwell; sons, Wayne David, Michael Dean and Matthew Dale; brother, Robert Caldwell; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Ronald Dee Geisler, Sr. passed peacefully at home on December 26,2018 in Lochbuie, Colorado. Ronald was born on February 11, 1944 in San Pedro, California. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Geisler; mother, Geraldine Haynes Geisler; step-mother, Cleo Geisler; step-sister, Jeanne Stanley; his wife, Patricia Mahoney Geisler; and son, Robert Geisler. His daughter Raina cared for him in his last years and I commend her for her patience and excellent care! Ronald spent 22 years in the United States Navy. He retired from the Navy as an E- 8. After retiring from the service he became a civil service worker. He worked for the Air Force Space Command. His company ran a worldwide network of satellites. They developed schedules for the satellite contacts around the world. In 1996 they were the only civilian group to win the Air Force Guardian Challenge. Ron was with this company 22 years. He retired in May 2009. He will be cremated and his ashes will be laid to rest in Nevada with his wife's. There will be a memorial service on January 19, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at his son Mike's house.

Wyn was born in Benson, Minnesota on November 28, 1924 to J.B. and Thora (Mathison) Camden. She met her husband Henry "Mel" Hulsey in San Francisco during World War II and married him in 1944. They lived on a dairy farm in Pierceton, Indiana until moving to Canon City in 1957 where they raised their two boys and she worked fulltime at Woolworth and Scharr Electric. Wyn was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother. She enjoyed gatherings with her family and loved them deeply. She also enjoyed baking, shopping, camping and most of all playing cards with her friends.

On Friday, December 28, 2018, Wilsey Benton Lloyd, loving husband, father and grandfather, of Florence, Colorado passed away at age 91. Wilsey was born on October 16, 1927 in Lesterville, MO to Wilsey and Ollie (Radford) Lloyd. The family moved to Colorado in 1930. Wilsey was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and was awarded a WWII Victory Medal. Upon his return from service, Wilsey earned his diploma from Florence High School and began a 37 year career at Portland. On January 8, 1949 a longtime friendship became a nearly 70 year marriage to Ella (Walker) Lloyd. Together they raised two children, Linda and Gerald. Wilsey had a passion for hunting and fishing. He also loved gardening and woodworking but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family. Wilsey was immensely proud of his family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. His wisdom, understanding and love will be missed. After him, the mold was indeed broken. Preceded in death by his parents Wilsey and Ollie; his step-father

FAR Resolution Run draws more than 100 participants in snowy conditions After the fireworks and New Years Eve parties, 107 people got up early Tuesday to participate in the inaugural Fremont Adventure Recreation Resolution Run, which was presented by St. Thomas More Hospital. In 4-degree temperatures, runners and walkers of all ages lined up to start the new year off with a healthy goal: to finish a 5K or 10K course. Participant ages ranged from 7 to 74, with 32 10K finishers and 75 5K finishers in all. The 5K first place male finisher was Tyler Stewart, 15, and the first place female finisher was Kylie Simshauser, 15. The 10K first place male finisher was James Jarmillo, 26, and the first place female finisher was Ashlee Romani, 31. Participants from as far away as Kansas and Minnesota traveled to take part in the event, and they competed in categories, such as “Stroller Pusher” and “Military Veteran.” Many runners were visiting relatives for the holidays and opted to make the most of their New Year’s Day. Others were Cañon City residents who ran on their “home turf.” At only 9 years old, Jordan Allen finished the 10K course with her mother, Kami. “I really wanted to try it,” Jordan said. “My mom kept telling me how she loves running, and I wanted to run with her. My mom assured me that no matter the temperature and no matter how fast or slow we go, we were going to do it together until the very end.” The New Year’s Eve storm deterred some, but not the mother-daughter duo. “I was really nervous,” said Kami Oppenheimer Allen, “but this was something my daughter and I had planned for a while and no matter if it was cold and snowy I wanted this to be something we did together: making memories.”

pants were excited to be here this morning and all had smiles on their faces and the city did an amazing job prepping our course.” The event start and finish were at Pueblo Community College - Fremont Campus. Volunteers stood out in the cold to hand out water and refreshments to participants, who favored hot cocoa and donuts at the

Main Street building hits century mark, continues to house businesses By Carie Canterbury The Daily Record

A century-old building in historic downtown Cañon City houses some of the most up-to-date and modern working facilities. Located at 729-731 Main St., the Cañon Auto Co. building turned 100 last year, and while its businesses have changed through the years, it’s charm and appeal have prevailed. “People come in here and they think this is New York City, not Cañon City,” said Jill Fredrickson, co-owner of The Hive and Coming Home Realty, which is located inside the building. “We have amazing response to this building.” Fredrickson said the entire building is 12,000 square feet, which also includes a Borgata, a shop that features local artists and craftsmen, antiques and collectibles, on the east side of the space. “It’s in really good shape compared to other buildings downtown,” Fredrickson said. “It’s been maintained well; the brick is in excellent shape, and I think considering it’s 100 years old, it is an amazing building.” Fredrickson said the businesses are committed to being high-quality downtown Cañon City businesses, and part of what allows them to do that is the physical space. “The building showcases our businesses so well,” she said. “People like the oldtime feeling, but also the uptown-New York City feeling — it’s the best of both worlds.” The Cañon Auto Co. building was built in 1918 when people were converting from horse and buggies to horseless carriages. According to archives at the Royal Gorge Regional Museum and History Center, the garage and auto storage at Eighth and Main was one of the largest garages in Colorado. One large bay could hold 100 cars, which were the early model horse-less carriages, according to newspaper accounts. Past Daily Record articles state that car owners rented space by the month to

The building housed different car dealers through the years, but it continued to operate as a general auto storage garage that offered bicycle repairing and sold accessories, including gas and oil. The building was vacant from 1980 until 1984 when Rich Gobin opened Gobin’s, an ofﬁce furniture and supply store, on the west side of the building. The east side has been home to Video House, a retail store and later the Marketplace Shops. In 1999, Gobin was awarded a historical grant for $81,485 for building restoration. Archives state that Gobin matched the grant with $96,000 of his own money for a total renovation project of about $177,000. The project included restoring the outside of the building and removing the drop ceiling to reveal the open rafters of the early garage. The businesses inside the building are open late on First Fridays, which often draws between 200 and 400 people to The Hive, Fredrickson said.
