ArkansasRiverwalkDogPark

TheCañonCityAreaRecreationandParkDistrict’sArkansasRiverwalkDogParkopenedinJuneof2011.Thispark wasmadepossiblebytheRecreationDistrict,theDogParkCommittee,andwithseveral financialcontributionsfrom localbusinessesandindividuals.Sincethattime,ithasundergoneseveralchangesandimprovements,includingan agilitycourse,pavilion,andawalkingtrack.

HarrisonPark

TheOldHarrisonParkwasacquiredbytheRecreationDistrictinJulyof2008fromtheCañonCityRE-1School District.ThankstoagrantfromGreatOutdoorsColoradotheparkwasrenovatedandopenedinlate2012.Nowthis neighborhoodparkfeaturesapavilion,upgradedplayground,basketballcourt,climbingboulders,restroomfacility,anda largefield.Thefacilityhasbecomeapopularlocationforfamilygatherings,birthdayparties,andsportspractices.Ifyou wouldliketoreservethepavilionatHarrisonPark,thereisachargeof$25fortwohours.

PathfinderRegionalPark

PathfinderParkopenedinthefallof2007andoverthepast14yearsalotofimprovementshavebeenmade,thanks inparttomultiplegrantsfromGreatOutdoorsColoradoandtheGatesFoundation,andstrongcommunitysupport. Theparkincludesaplayground,fishingpond,trailsandmultiplesportsfields.TheMinersPavilionisbookedseveral weekendseachmonthforparties,reunionsandevenweddings.Trailadditionsandbridgeshavebeenmadethanksto theCañonCityHighSchoolCivicsclassesandlocalBoyScoutTroops.Wecontinuetoexpandtrailsthroughoutthe naturalareasbetweenthedevelopedparkandtheArkansasRiver.IfyouwouldliketoreservethepavilionatPathfinder RegionalPark,thereisachargeof$25fortwohours.

RousePark

RouseParkwasthefirstparkownedandoperatedbytheRecreationDistrictwithfields,pavilions,andaplayground area.Thebaseballandsoftballfieldsareusedfor9to10monthsoutoftheyearbyrecreationprograms,CañonCity HighSchool,andareatravelingteams.Thisfacilityhostsseveralbaseballandsoftballtournamentsthroughouttheyear whichincludemanyteamsfromoutsidethecommunity.Thewestendofthefacilityisusedforfootballandsoccer practicesandgamesandthepavilionshostparties,weddings,andotherfunctionsthroughouttheyear.Inthefallof2016 renovationstothesouthwestcorneroftheparkaddedsixnewpickleballcourtsandanimprovedbasketballcourt.The pickleballcourtsarebusysevendaysaweekandhavealreadyhostedtournaments.RouseParkisoneofthemostused parksintheRecreationDistrictandthecommunityasawhole.

ArcheryRange

TheArcheryRange,locatedat575AshStreetjusteastoftheofficebuilding,isopentothepublicatalltimesduringday lighthours.Therearetargetsat10,20,30,40,50,and60yards.Newtargetshavebeenplacedthisyear.TheArchery Rangealsofeaturesashootingplatformand3Dtargets.Therulesforthefacilityarepostedattherange.Pleasecome downandutilizethefacilityandallithastoofferyearround!

EagleWingTrailhead/SouthCañonTrails

AttheintersectionofColburnLaneandNewYorkAve.aretheEagleWingTrailheadandScheppOpenSpace.This isourmostrecenttrailadditionandprovidesrecreationaccesstoseveralpopularandexistingparksandtrailsinthe southwestareaofCañonCity,includingEcologyParkandTempleCanyon.Itisanaccesspointtothe10milesofthe SouthCañonTrailsystemlocatedonBLMland,FremontCountyland,andRecreationDistrictland.Locatedatthe TrailheadistheHeckerFamilyMemorialPicnicShelterfundedthroughlocalcontributions.In2020a flowtrailcalled “SmoothCriminal”wasaddedthankstofundingfromFremontAdventureRecreation(FAR)andsupportfromTerra FirmaTrails,theCityofCañonCity,andFremontCounty.In2021,thankstofundingfromFARonceagain,weopened “TheYard”BikeParkatthetrailhead.Therearetwodifferentlinestoenjoyandimproveyourskills.TheCityofCañon CityandTerraFirmaTrailswereinvolvedintheprojectaswell.

R.C.IcaboneSwimmingPool

ThepoolwasthereasonthecommunitycreatedtheRecreationDistrictin1965.Thisisour firstfacilityandisused seasonallyfromMemorialDaytoLaborDay.Besidesanoutdoorpool,adjacentsandvolleyballandbasketballcourtsare availableforuseyear-round.

ABOUTUS

TheCañonCityAreaRecreationandParkDistrictisaspecial districtthatwasestablishedin1965.

TheDistrict’smainsourceoffundingcomesintheformofproperty tax,whichiscollectedfromanareathatisapproximately115 squaremilesinsize.

TheDistrictisgovernedbya five-memberBoard, whoareelectedatlargefromcitizenslivingorowningproperty withintheDistrictboundaries.ElectionsareconductedinMayofeveryevenyear.TheBoard conductsmonthlymeetingsattheDistrict’smainoffice, 575Ash,St.,onthesecondTuesdayofeverymonthbeginningat7:00pm.

TheDistrictcurrentlyownsandoperatesRousePark,JohnGriffinRegionalPark, OldHarrisonPark,ArkansasRiverwalk,R.C.IcaboneSwimmingPool,Arkansas RiverwalkDogPark,AshStreetCommunityGarden,AshStreetArcheryRange,ScheppOpen SpaceandEagleWingTrailhead,RopesChallengeCourse,andtheCommunityRoom,whichis locatedwithinthemainoffice.TheDistrictco-ownsandoperatesPathfinderRegionalParkwith FremontCounty.

EveryyeartheBoardofDirectorsandtheDistrictStaff strivetoimprovethe programsandfacilitiesofferedtothecommunity.Alltheprogramsandactivities listedinthisActivityGuidearedesignedtomeettherecreationalneedsofthepublic.Weof coursewelcomeanysuggestionsorinputasourgoalistobetterservethecommunity.

TheDistrictworksinconjunctionwiththeCityofCañonCity,FremontCounty,CañonCityRE-1 SchoolDistrict,Florence-PenroseRE-2SchoolDistrict,Fremont SanitationDistrictandmanylocalbusinessesandnon-profitstoprovideservicestothecitizens ofthecommunity.

TeamRosters: Therewillbeadrop-deaddateastowhichnomorenamescanbeaddedtoaroster.Atthis pointtherosterbecomesfrozenandnoplayerscanbeaddedorremoved.Itwillbeapproximately60% throughtheregularseasonandwillbeprintedontheschedules.Furthermore,alladultteamrosterswillhave alimitednumberofplayersperspecificsport.Alllegalplayersthenontherosterwillbeeligibletoparticipate inthepost-season.Allteamrosters,waiversanddropformswill bekeptintheon-sitenotebook.

LegalPlayers: Aplayerisnotlegaluntiltheyhavesignedandcompletedtherosterandplayedinatleastone game.Aprintednameontherosterisnotlegaluntilithasbeensigned,butitdoescounttowardstheroster limit.

AddingPlayerstotheTeamRoster: Ifateamhasnotreachedtheirrosterlimitbeforetherosterdeadline, theycanaddplayersbysimplyhavingthemsignandcompletetherosterbeforeparticipating.Ifateamhas reachedtheirlimitofplayers,theycannotaddaplayeruntilaplayerhasdroppedusingthedropform.

RemovingPlayersfromtheTeamRoster: Onceaplayerhassignedtherostertheyarealegalplayerand mustsignthedropforminordertonotbecountedtowardsateam’srosterlimit.Theteammanagercan removeunsignedplayersfromtherostertoaddplayersbeforetherosterdeadline.

GameChallenges: Agamemaynotbechallengedafterithasbeencompleted.Ifatanytimeduringthe courseofagameateamwantstochallengetheopposingteam’srostertheymaydoso.Theycanchallenge rosterlimits,legalplayersorplayereligibility.Whatisintheon-sitenotebookisofficial.Ateamplayingwith anillegalrosterwillforfeitthegame.

ForfeitPenalty: Teamsthatforfeitwithouta24-hournoticetotheProgramCoordinatorwillbepenalizeda feeof$25.ThepenaltymustbesubmittedtotheRecreationDistrictOfficeoremployeebeforetheteamis allowedtoparticipateinthenextscheduledgame.Agameforfeitedduetoachallengedoesnotconstitutea penalty.

Awards: The first-placeteamwillreceiveT-shirtsforeveryplayerlistedontheirrosteranda1stplaceplaque. Thepost-seasonplayoffsortournamentwilldeterminethewinnersineachleague.Ifthereisnotaplayoff or tournament,theleaguewinnerswillbebasedontheregularseason.

TieBreakers: Most tieswillbedecidedtodetermineseedsforpost-seasonplay.Tiebreakerswillfollowthe stepslistedbelowwhenapplicableandinorder.

AdultSoftball (FirstSeason)

The2023AdultSoftballprogramwill consistoftwoseasons.TheFirstSeason willrunfromMaythroughthemiddleof July.TheSecondSeasonwillfollowfrom earlyAugustthroughOctober.TheFirst Seasoninformationispostedbelow.Teams mustprovidetheirownballs.Rulesand policieswillbereviewedatthemanagers meetingbeforetheseasonbegins.
