Olive M. Bowman April 22, 1936 ~ April 16, 2019
Olive M. Bowman, 82, went to be with the Lord April 16, 2019. She was born April 22, 1936 in Canon City, Colorado to George S. Turner and Olive Maxine Turner. She was raised on the OK Dairy Farm owned by her parents. She graduated from Canon City High School in 1955 and attended Colorado University in Boulder where she met her husband, Edgar W. Bowman. They were married February 3, 1957 and moved to Belgium. They later divorced and upon her return to the United States, she started a career in banking at the Union National Bank in Marquette, Michigan as a teller. In the fall of 1969 she moved back to Canon City where she worked for First National Bank of Florence in customer service. In 1990 she started working in the customer service department for Pueblo Bank and Trust. She loved her customers and became well known to the community because of her advocacy on their behalf. She remained there until her retirement. Olive loved to travel visiting many places in Europe, New Zealand and the US. She was especially fond of Belgium. Olive was a 75 year member of the United Presbyterian Church and was active as an Elder and Deacon. She was an alto in the church choir and a member of the women's group, Gloria Dei. Her strong faith in God caused her to look to the needs of others before herself. Olive was a 60 year member of The Order of
Eastern Star in Canon City. She served in most stations and was Worthy Matron several times as well as being Grand Representative to Idaho. She loved her Star Sisters and Brothers and was well known in the Masonic Community. She was active in the American Red Cross and Kiwanis. She loved her family and loved spending time with them. If there was a family gathering, she would always bring something like homemade carrot cookies or her famous deviled eggs. She is survived by her son, Bruce (Kathleen) Bowman; daughter, Anne (Alan) Clanton; sister, Rose Cosat and brother, George R. Turner; five grandchildren, Christina Lambert, Zack Stanley, Melanie Aragon, Abby Talbot and Austin Clanton and their spouses; and 10 great-grandchildren. Olive was preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to thank Fremont County Hospice and its fleet of angels for their superb and loving care. Memorial service, 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019 at the old Presbyterian Church, 701 Macon Ave., Canon City, CO. Grant Adkisson officiating. Anita McCoy Dance Studio to present ‘On Broadway’ Revue
The “On Broadway” Revue will be presented by the Anita McCoy Dance Studio at 6:30 p.m. May 11 in the Cañon City High School auditorium. This will be Anita’s 61st annual Revue. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Dancers (as well with Anita herself) will perform tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, acrobatic and baton routines. Award-winning competition dances will be performed. The studio competed in two regional competitions this year, winning first places and above first places. The group who performed “Grease,” which was choreographed by Rashelle Trujillo, won the overall first place award April 7 at the “Groove” Regional Competition in Denver.
Patricia Kay Lambert March 21, 1971 ~ April 18, 2019
Patricia Kay Lambert (Tilton) was a loving daughter, sister and mother. Her children Makaila D. Lambert, Tyler D. Bissell and Chandler R. Bissell all know her as their best friend and the one who will always watch over them. Patti was brought into this world on March 21, 1971 to Davis H. Tilton (spouse Susan Geiger) and Yanita L. Porter (Deceased) and gracefully left us on April 18, 2019 surrounded by many of her loved ones. Patti was a fighter that defied many odds during her struggle with cancer. She loved animals, a good laugh and therapeutic drives that included her children and great music. Patti
considered herself a child of nature and always surrounded herself with items that helped hone in on the positive energy she wanted everyone to feel. She was the mother her children needed her to be and the sister that Davis H. Tilton Jr. and Gwendolyn R. Londenberg (spouse Jerry C. Londenberg) will always cherish. She will be missed and loved always. We would like to send all of our love and a special thanks to Grandma Susan who continuously helped during our toughest times and stayed unwavering as she protected, guided and loved our mother.
Ryan Michael Horne April 25, 1986 ~ April 16, 2019
On Tuesday April 16, 2019, Ryan Michael Horne, loving husband, father, brother and son, passed away just before his 33rd birthday. Ryan was born on April 25, 1986 in Liberal, KS to Ron and Elaine (Binder) Horne. Ryan studied theater and business at University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University and University of Colorado, Boulder. Ryan had a variety of occupations including sales of cable, solar, storage containers, business photo shoots, and security systems as well as working as a waiter and bartender. On July 12, 2016, he married Rebecca Manley. Their son, Malachi, is one year old. Ryan loved making others happy with his huge smile, random jokes and contagious laughter. He was an immensely talented
Dr. Elaine Anne Nowick March 6, 1948 - January 28, 2018
CAÑON CITY, CO - Dr. Elaine Anne Nowick, aged 70, died on January 28, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Denver, CO, on March 6, 1948 to Hardy and Anne (Kopic) Maytag. Upon graduation from high school, Elaine went on to study plant science and genetics, getting her Bachelor's degree from University of Colorado, Master's at Colorado State University, and PhD from Iowa State University. Elaine worked in plant genetics before taking a job as a professor of library science at the University of Nebraska. Elaine's love of plants drove her to research and compile information on native prairie plants while at the University of Nebraska. This research led to the publication of two books: "Historical Common Names of Great Plains Plants, Volume I: Historical Common Names" and "Historical Common Names of Great Plains Plants, Volume II: Scientific Names Index." This connection to plants carried over in her personal life as well, and Elaine was one of the founding members of the Nebraska Native Plant Society. She also restored 20 acres of prairie at her home in Nebraska. Elaine was an environmentalist and donated to many causes. She was a lover of animals and nature and enjoyed hiking her land in Colorado, where she returned several years
ago, building a house on her family's homestead. She also enjoyed traveling sewing, knitting, music, reading, and building furniture. Over the past few years Elaine volunteered for CASA in Fremont County. She enjoyed her time working with children through the program. Her pride and joy was her only child, Matthew, with her first husband, Charles "Chuck" Nowick. Elaine found love again later in life and married Robert "Bob" Hill on Nov. 25, 1995. He preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Matthew (Michelle Phillips) Nowick, of Madison, WI her brother Steven Maytag, of Carnegie, PA, close cousin Charles Kopic, of Cañon City, CO and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elaine was also preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and her close cousin Richard Kopic. A Celebration of Life will be held at her home west of Cañon City, in Webster Park, 2126 CO. American Design Drafting Association students recognized for achievement in national competition By Chris Graham The Daily Record
Cañon City High School students continue to perform well in the American Design Drafting Association national competition. The Tigers recently placed first and second in all four categories. “Cañon City High School is number one in the nation in this program,” said CCHS principal Bill Summers during Monday’s school board meeting. In the Architectural Rendering category, Alexandra Weatherill placed first, Shea Garcia placed second and Joseph Carochi placed third. In the Architectural Residential Design Drafting category, Anastasia Snow placed first and Allison Appleman placed second. In the Technical Illustrated Mechanical category, Kealan Trainor took home first, Cole Sullivan got second and Joshua Creany placed third. In the Machine and Mechanical Working Drawings category, Matthew Morganthaler placed first and John Crawford placed second. CCHS has placed first in all four categories since 2015. “It’s probably the best job in the district, I think, working with the best students in the district in my opinion,” said the ADDA program teacher Scott Smith. The students were recognized at Monday’s school board meeting. Also at Monday’s school board meeting, the Cañon City board of education proclaimed the week of May 6-10 teacher appreciation week. That week the board will visit each school to show honor teachers. “The Board of Education of the Cañon City School District strongly encourages all members of our community to join with it in personally expressing appreciation to our teachers for their dedication and devotion to their work and to our children.” said school board president Larry Oddo in the proclamation. The board also approved a new course at CCHS called Human Growth and Development. Out of state travel requests for Speech and Debate, Destination Imagination and Wyatt Cosat to attend their respective national competitions also were approved.

History of the Blossom Festival It has long been tradition in small towns all across America to acknowledge new growing seasons or harvests through community celebrations that are part festive and part commerce based. This tradition actually predates American history by thousands of years, with similar such celebrations by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and many other cultures long since disappeared. But in some small towns like us, that history is not altogether relevant, because the sun sets and rises on the accomplishments and achievements of the individuals in these towns, making each community unique and profoundly different. Learn to Bowl
If you have ever wanted to learn to bowl and have some fun, now is the time! Come learn to bowl! Bowling etiquette and basics will be taught. Camp will run from June 3rd through July 12th. Youth classes will welcome ages 6-16 and begin at 3:30 pm and end at 5:30 pm on Monday nights. Youth classes are also available on Friday afternoon beginning at 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm. Canon City Lanes will also offer classes to adults on Fridays from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Registration deadline is May 31st at 5:00 pm. FOUR MILE GOLF COURSE
2019 JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAM We have teamed up with the Four Mile Golf Course to offer the Junior Golf program this summer. This program will run on Tuesday, and Thursday mornings for two weeks,offering two separate sessions. The session will be divided into three age groups at three separate times. Each age group will be capped at 10 participants per group. Every group will be taught the fundamentals of golf including: basic grip and setup, short game, irons, driving and round preparation. On course etiquette will also be stressed. It is also important to follow up the lessons with time on the golf course itself for those who wish to play.

This is a great way to learn about the sport of gymnastics from a very accomplished coach.
