Site Analysis • The site is a part of an heritage building, and the exterior or the structure and architectural elements cannot be altered. • Access: The building has two entry points, one on the north and one on the south. The northern entrance has ramp access. • Entry: The space has three possible entry points on the western side through the lobby space. • Fenestrations : On all three sides - North, south and east. • Daylight: Preferable light - North and East; Harsh Light - South • Views: Eastern windows look into gardens, Southern and Northern windows have view, but not as good as the eastern side

Concept - Riverside
Weaving in the essence of abundance found in Arkansas, with all its beautiful rivers and lakes into a design that calms the spirit and heals the soul. This new state-of-the-art medical office will provide top quality medical care to this small rural farming community in Little River County, Arkansas. Young and old will feel a sense of familiarity coupled with a welcoming and a caring spirit where many from this community have not had access to good medical care very often, if at all.

The Riverside Care Concept Relevance and Interpretation • As we know, Dr Rockefeller is setting up the clinic in to help uplift the health and wellbeing of the rural town of Winthrop and surrounding areas. Hence the clinic intends to offer medical assistance in an environmwnt that is homey, comfortable and intimate to the localities who aren’t really used to visiting formal medical offices. • The most noticeable and resonating feature of Arkansas is the natural water bodies – lakes, rivers, streams, hot springs and waterfalls. As is read about the state of Arkansas and Winthrop town, I observed the people are outdoorsy and socialize around water features. • Since water is a very common feature, the design centred around the concept riverside shapes the clinic into a recognisable environemnt. This will make the localites visit the clinic with no inhibitions and Dr Rockefeller can extend her care and experience to help them in their health. • The experience of the visitors will be simple, easy and pleasant which aids healing. The staff working in the clinic too will be transformed into an amicable mood with the design elements representing calming waters.

Concept in Design • The circulation space is the river along which you reach the activity spaces on banks , or river side spaces • The river flow is abstracted to the flow of traffic in clinic. It is flowing towards south, making that region high pressure. Hence the activity hub is zoned there and Private zone in the low pressure area. • The materials represent elements found on the river beds- pebbles, tree trunks, barks, twigs, bushes,ropes. • Flooring - The waiting area is an abstraction of steeping stones and pebbles by the river. Different colours are used to represent water, pebbles, flora and fauna around river beds. The general circulation space has linoluem sheet with blue and oragne ripple like patterns which not only represent flow and movemnt but act as wayfinding to different rooms.

Colour Harmony Complimentary Colours Yellow Orange-Blue Violet Blues and Violets: As per Evidence Based Design, these colour are percieved as the most calming colours and helps in healing process. In my design, blues and violets are also representations of water Yellows and Oranges: These acolours are known to uplift the mood and bring happiness and joy. This helps changing the mood of occupants of the clinic in a positive manner. In my design, yellows and oranges are representation of the flora and fauna in and around water.

West Elevation - Through Corridor The Corridor Experience • This transition space is one of the most critical experiences for the patient as well as the employees. it collects the more informal waiting and reception area to the exam rooms along the Nurse station. • The focus of the experience through this passageway is the ceiling treatment. The hardwood baffle ceiling draws the attention of the users. the ceiling extends above the nurse station as well making the passageway seem wider and spacious. The travel time spent experiencing the vastness expunges the anxiety and fear of patients headed to exam rooms or nurse station. • The airy space also helps nurse and doctors think more calmly. • The clerestory windows bring in natural light during the day making users connect to outside even though they are in a corridor. • The hanging garden, plants at the Nurse station add more biophilic experiences to this transition space. • the natural materials like wood, linoleum flooring, ropes for hanging garden, patterns in flooring bring in the earthy water feel - Riverside

The Riverside Care The Waiting Area Experience • The focus of the design is to make the complete medical care experience at the clinic comfortable, easy and organic. Thus waiting area becomes an important space to be designed to ensure the patients and the family members have a trouble-free and tension free experience while waiting for the doctor/nurse to attend to them. • The space is soaked in natural light with views of the outside garden. • There are just the required furniture and made obstacle free. • The children’s zone and adults section are demarcated with a partition made of twigs giving a outdoorsy feel to the space • The furniture are organic in shape and give a contemporary touch to the interior. A round pendant is a focus point for these areas when seen from the entrance/reception areas. • The flooring is Linoleum tiles of four different colours - 2 shades of blues, yellow orange and grey, the yellow orange adding some excitement to the space along with some positive distraction. The small tiles are a representative of the pebbles/skipping stones. • The children’s area has a interactive digital wall which can be used by both he adults and children. This is introduced as a positive distraction from anxiety and fear among the patients and their families.

Dr Rockefeller’s Room • The consultation room 1 is dedicated to Dr Rockefeller. As requested the room is a space for composed thinking and special consulatation. • The elements and furniture are all functional and connect Doctor to ther roots with natural hardwood flooring and greenery around. • The corner office with vistas of the surroundings through the fenestrations on the eastern and northern walls can transform the small room into a huge space conncting the indoors with the outdoors. • Subtle colours in the space represeting waters are the planters and patterns on the shades. They add to the biophilic aura of the space. • The lighting si simple with ceiling lights on the existing high ceiling and accent pendants to soften the volume. • A combination of open and closed shelves for display and storage adds character and personal touch to her space.
