Nella Seward, president of the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society, will kick off our themed month with a program exploring Italy from a native’s perspective. This society was formed to promote and share an appreciation and awareness of Italian culture and heritage and contributions of Italians and Italian Americans to the development of the U.S. and the world. The group sponsors Italian artistic and cultural activities in the community.

Nella lived most of her life in Italy and now resides in Lancaster. She often returns to lead tour groups to visit her favorite parts of Italy.

Winter Sizzles Like Summer with the Grand Master’s Party SATURDAY, FEB. 10, 7 P.M. Brossman Ballroom

Meet the new Right Worshipful Grand Master Larry A. Derr and the Grand Lodge Officers as you enjoy an evening of drinks and desserts. Three Hour Tour will play various 60s and 70s standards, often referred to as Yacht Rock music. Imagine you are on a summer yacht cruise relaxing under the moonlight.

This is an information session regarding a community church philanthropy group, Outreach Food Ministry, who will discuss their “Blessings of Hope” program. Presented by Darek Raguza, director of development, and Scott Roper, engagement manager, the mission of the organization is to feed the hungry by facilitating partnerships between food suppliers and nonprofits in a way that brings God’s blessings to both.

Matt Wenger’s Tribute Concert

Hailing from Lancaster County’s pastures of plenty, Matt Wenger is a Masonic Village favorite.

The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist plays old-time traditional songs and those of Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Donovan, Johnny Cash, Woody Guthrie and Townes Van Zandt. He delivers songs honestly and acoustically, balladeering the way into tomorrow. He’s dedicating this concert in memory of his dear friend Carl Frysinger, who was a fan of Matt’s and often traveled to hear him play.

River Crossing Playback Theatre

River Crossing Playback Theatre brings compelling conversations and community to life in the Susquehanna River Valley with improvisation and enactment of audience stories. In Playback Theatre, stories take a new life on stage as an audience becomes connected in a community dialogue that is both uniquely personal and powerfully universal. The theme is “family and friends” and welcomes the audience to be part of (and listen to) the storytelling with the cast.

Carolyn Kleiman: Unraveling the Mystery of Mysteries TUESDAY, FEB. 20, 10 A.M. Keystone Room

Learn why mystery stories grab us and keep us reading into the wee hours of the night. Carolyn’s program covers the history of the mystery novel, the sub-genres that have evolved and the structure of mystery stories. She’ll also discuss the true crimes that inspired her book, “The Class Assignment is Murder.” In the novel, a college English professor and three students investigate an old murder case, and their inquiry resurrects dark memories for the professor who witnessed her mother’s murder when she was 5 years old. Who could have predicted a simple class assignment would both revive and generate so many murders?

The Art of Money: The U.S. Coins and Art of Augustus St. Gaudens WEDNESDAY, FEB. 21, 10 A.M. Keystone Room

The U.S. coinage of the early twentieth century has been widely acclaimed as the most beautiful ever produced in the U.S. These extraordinary sculptors included Augustus St. Gaudens, who designed the $20 gold piece and $10 gold piece. Please join this discussion on how the artistic work of St. Gaudens lead President Theodore Roosevelt to ask him to bring his artistry to our nation’s coins.

Abruzzo, Italy’s Hidden Treasure

FRIDAY, FEB. 23, 10 A.M. Lodge Multipurpose Room

Discover the land of the poet Ovid, where the name “Italy” originated and where much Italian history was made. Abruzzo is known for its plentiful natural beauty and houses several national and regional parks, two stunning mountain ranges and a long stretch of beach along the Adriatic. In a live-streamed Zoom meeting from Italy, Terri Mastrobuono will share a video of her beautiful casa in Abruzzo. She is a second generation Italian-American, who lived until age 9 with her Italian immigrant grandparents.

Fourteen years ago, she bought a house in a hilltop village in the region of Abruzzo and ran it as a guesthouse during summers off from teaching at Elizabethtown College. In May 2022, she and her husband moved to the village permanently.

Overwhelmed by her suffocating schedule, touring European princess, Ann (Audrey Hepburn), takes off for a night while in Rome. When a sedative she took from her doctor kicks in, however, she falls asleep on a park bench and is found by an American reporter, Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck), who takes her back to his apartment for safety. At work the next morning, Joe finds out Ann’s regal identity and bets his editor he can get exclusive interview with her, but romance soon gets in the way. Not rated, with a run time of one hour 53 minutes.

Please note: the trolley ride is not handicap accessible.

Please join with other residents who struggle with vision loss. This support group will meet every other month and alternate between the GLH Solarium and Keystone Room locations. This group is open to all residents and is facilitated by Brooke Zubeck, Home Health social worker.

ROOSTER WOODSHOP Do you need a writing desk? This handsome desk was made in the Rooster Woodshop.

It has a huge knee well for easy movement while sitting in a chair. It features a pencil drawer in the middle for storage of writing supplies and stamps. If you need a desk, please come in and see us. If you need one of a custom size, we can build it.

Masonic Village Rooster Woodshop is located on the corner of Freemason Drive and Umbaugh Drive. The showroom is open Monday through Friday, from 8 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 3 p.m. It is also open on Saturday, from 8 – 11 a.m. There are many assorted items produced by the members. All items on display are for sale, and all Masonic Village residents and employees receive a 15% discount on a showroom item priced $100 or more.
