This was a turning point in WWII. It looked like Hitler was winning, but by the end, the Soviets had marked the beginning of the end for the Nazis.

DINING 43912

DIRECTIONS

Salad:

In a large bowl, toss together lettuce, red cabbage, chicken, mandarin oranges, crushed ramen noodles, carrots, green onions and sliced almonds.

Dressing:

In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, honey, sesame oil, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, ginger and garlic. Slowly drizzle in vegetable oil, whisking constantly until emulsified. Before serving, drizzle dressing over salad and toss to combine.

Poaching Chicken:

Poaching is the best way to cook chicken for shredding. It’s fast and keeps the chicken moist so that it’s tender enough to shred. Add boneless, skinless chicken breasts to a large pot of water

ART CLASSES

and bring it to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink. Remove from pot and let it cool for a few minutes.

How to Nurture Your Inner Artist

INGREDIENTS

3 cups shredded lettuce

2 cups shredded red cabbage

2 cups shredded chicken

½ cup drained mandarin oranges

1 instant ramen pack

½ cup shredded carrot

⅓ cup sliced green onion

¼ cup sliced almonds

3 tbsp. rice wine vinegar

2 tbsp. honey

1 tbsp. sesame oil

2 tbsp. soy sauce

1 tsp. minced garlic

1 clove garlic, crushed

¼ cup vegetable oil

An inner artist is the creative artist inside all of us that just needs confidence, compassion and encouragement to be unleashed. As a child, we hold this inner artist close to our heart. We fingerpaint just for the joy of it. We dance and sing with abandon. We scribble stories across colorful notebooks. Why does this connection to our creativity get quieter and quieter as we grow older? Residents often stop by and say they would love to take one of our classes, but feel they are not creative enough.

First of all, nobody is perfect. Embracing your imperfections is very freeing and allows you to try something new. Second, stop by the Art Studio and talk to us. We will help you get started. We have stacks of colored pencils and Zentangle books that are fun and easy. Our selection of library books is now listed on MVS Link. Come by to check out a book or stay and practice a new skill. Watch for new pop up classes coming this summer.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist when we grow up.”
