Located in the Star Points Building, the Barley Wellness Center offers state-of-the-art equipment, fitness classes and an indoor pool and spa. Trained staff will help you develop a personalized fitness program.

Fit for Life focuses on balance, strength and flexibility to help increase your strength and stability for a better quality of life.

Senior Yoga

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 11:30 a.m. - Noon Assembly Room

Our instructor, Claudia, will guide you through a gentle half-hour yoga session of seated and standing poses focused on strength, relaxation, balance and flexibility.

Golden Aerobics

Tuesday & Thursday 9 - 9:45 a.m.

Assembly Room

Designed to work your entire body, this class will benefit individuals who are looking for an active cardiovascular workout with intervals of strength, flexibility and range-of-motion exercises.

Tai Chi

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 – 10:30 a.m.

Tai Chi has been described as meditation in motion, gentle flowing movement performed in a slow, focused manner. Anyone can participate, as Tai Chi places minimal stress on muscles and joints. Therefore, it is especially suitable and beneficial for older adults. The benefits of Tai Chi include decreased stress, increased energy and improved flexibility and balance.

Our wellness staff will warm you up and cool you down with various exercises before and after a short walk. Join neighbors and friends for good music and conversation, all while contributing to a healthy, active lifestyle.

The wellness team will guide you through gentle stretches to improve flexibility and balance and increase range of motion, making it easier to perform everyday tasks.

Todd DePastino: President Andrew Jackson Wednesday, Dec. 13 7 p.m.

Todd DePastino continues his series on our seventh President, Andrew Jackson, perhaps the most complicated and controversial chief executive of all time. He was first to be born poor, first to be from the West, first to embrace Democracy and first to be popularly elected. He was also the first to experience an assassination attempt. We will discuss his many duels and his heroism during the Battle of New Orleans at the end of the War of 1812.

QUICK AND EASY BOLOGNESE SAUCE 2 tbsp. Olive oil

1 cup Grated carrots

1 cup Celery, minced 1 cup Onions, finely minced 1 lb. Ground beef, 80/20 1 lb. Ground pork 1 25 oz. Jar of your favorite store-bought marinara sauce 1/2 cup Heavy cream 1 tsp. Salt 1/2 tsp. Black pepper 1 lb. Wide pasta noodles, such as pappardelle, tagliatelle or any one you like Parmesan cheese

1. In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add in carrots, along with celery and onions, and sauté until they’re just tender, about 3 minutes. Add the ground beef and ground pork and cook until browned, breaking up the meat as you stir.

2. Pour in the jar of marinara sauce, along with salt and pepper and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens.

3. When the bolognese sauce has reached your desired consistency, stir in the heavy cream.

4. Remove from heat and serve over your favorite pasta. Top with freshly grated parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

Takes about an hour from start to finish.

Brahms speaks to all with this chillingly beautiful work, articulating the rawness of the end of one’s life. The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh sets the scene for this experience with the a cappella piece, “Lux Aeterna,” by Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds, followed by the “rhapsodic flair” of Behzod Abduraimov in Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 20.”

Tour the Carnegie Museum of Art to view the gorgeous, decorated trees in the Hall of Architecture. Wonder at the stunning Neapolitan “presepio” display made in Naples, Italy, between 1700 and 1830. “Presepio,” meaning “manger,” represents the nativity scene within an Italian village setting. With over 100 expertly handmade figures and architectural elements, it is the largest presepio collection in the U.S.
