Comprehensive Sexuality Education seeks to equip people with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they need to determine and enjoy their sexuality—physically and emotionally, individually and in relationships. It views sexuality holistically, as a part of people’s emotional and social development. It recognizes that information alone is not enough. People need to be given the opportunity to acquire essential life skills and develop positive attitudes and values (Guttmacher Institute). People with developmental disabilities are often overlooked or completely forgotten in discussions of human sexuality. We want to change that by providing equal access to quality, inclusive and non-judgmental sexuality education. OUR SCOPE: We have the capacity to provide education to people of all ages with various intellectual and developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome, Mild Intellectual Disorder or people on the Autism Spectrum. We can also provide education for people with differing levels of physical ability. Parents, family members and caregivers can be primary sexuality educators of the people in their care. Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio can provide trainings on how to most effectively have conversations about sensitive, sexuality-related topics. Planned Parenthood can educate on topics including but not limited to: • Puberty • Boundaries (Public vs. Private) • Anatomy • Sexuality • Internet safety • Condom usage • Healthy relationships • Hygiene *While we can work with caregivers, we do not have the capabilities of working directly with adjudicated sexual offenders. Planned Parenthood will provide additional resources and support to aide in getting the individual what they need.
