A FEW WORDS FROM THE MUR been going to shows since late 79 but I didn't start taking pictures until '83. Tim Tinooka of Ripper fanzine got me started--I think there was some show he couldn't go to that he wanted photos from. Once I got at all good at it, it turned into an obsession. There I'd be at every show, snapping away. People'd come up to me and say "Are you doing a book or something?"

I figured that'd be a good thing to do someday. Luckily, Martin and Tim also thought so, and their "somedays" come sooner than mine.

So how do you do a photozine? Beats me. I spent one marathon (2 pm to 2 am) session staring at contact sheets and negatives and marking off possibilities. There were 2000 "possibilities." Impossible! Next, starting with current stuff and working back in time, I printed up the "good ones" until I got sick of it, and three days more. This yielded enough material to carpet Maximum's office. Then (stepping carefully), Tim, Martin, Cynthia and I fought over which ones to use. ("Don't you have any good ones? You want those sexists on the cover?") There was a second printing spree to pick up a few of the many lost bands, a second selection fight, and I was done (except for writing this).

Martin and Cynthia did the layouts. I think all the photos are mine, but I sometimes lent my camera to Jim Brick, so who knows?

Some technical details: almost all the photos here were taken f2 lens, sometimes with with a Nikon FE2, usually with Nikon's 28 zoom, occasionally with a 28-85. Almost all were lighted Sigma's 21-35 with direct flash. All were taken on Tri-X, exposed at ASA 400, and developed and printed by me.
