For 135 years, The Philadelphia Protestant Home has stood as a place where compassion is lived, care is elevated, and community is cherished.

What began as a vision to provide comfort and dignity to older adults has grown into a vibrant, welcoming campus where generations have found not only a home, but a sense of belonging.

At the heart of PPH’s legacy is a commitment to compassionate care — the kind that sees each resident as an individual with a story, a history, and a future worth nurturing. From skilled nursing to personal care, memory care and independent living, every service is grounded in respect, empathy, and a deep understanding of what it means to age with grace.

Hospitality and service excellence has always been a defining hallmark of PPH. Residents and families are greeted with warmth, attentiveness, and a spirit of service that transforms everyday moments into meaningful connections. Whether sharing a meal, gathering for conversation, or welcoming new neighbors, the PPH community radiates a sense of home.

Over the decades, PPH has continued to evolve, offering modern amenities that enrich daily life. Beautifully designed living spaces, inviting culinary venues, a wellness and fitness center, landscaped outdoor areas, and thoughtfully curated common spaces all reflect a dedication to comfort, convenience, and quality. These amenities are more than features — they are touchpoints of joy, independence, and engagement.

Life at PPH is further enhanced by a robust array of life enrichment programs and activities that celebrate curiosity, creativity, and connection. Residents explore new interests, revisit lifelong passions, and build friendships through art, gardening, music programs, educational lectures, fitness classes, spiritual gatherings, social events, and intergenerational experiences. Each program is designed to inspire purpose and promote well being, ensuring that every resident has the opportunity to thrive.

As PPH celebrated 135 years, it honored a remarkable history shaped by generosity, innovation, and unwavering dedication. Yet the true celebration lies in the people — the residents who bring life to the community, the team members who serve with heart, and the families who entrust their loved ones to PPH’s care.

This milestone is not only a reflection of the past, but a promise for the future: to continue fostering a community where compassion guides every action, care is delivered with excellence, hospitality is a way of life, and enrichment is woven into each day.

Dear Friends, As I reflect on my time here at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, I am continually encouraged by the kindness, spirit, and sense of community I see each day. PPH has long been a place defined by generations of care — neighbors supporting neighbors, team members serving with commitment, and residents building meaningful connections that endure.

The sincerity and dedication of our team members in serving our residents is truly admirable. In turn, our residents welcome everyone who enters our community and they interact warmly with the compassionate individuals who care for them.

As I transition into my new role as Vice President of Operations with EverTrue, I will remain actively involved at PPH by supporting the community’s new Executive Director and PPH leadership, continuing to advance our mission, strengthen our programs, and ensure the community’s financial stability — all while helping shape a future of possibility for PPH and those we serve.

We are deeply grateful for the dedication of our team members and the ongoing support of you — our loyal donors. Your generosity plays a vital role in sustaining our community and ensuring that our residents receive the care, empathy, and dignity they deserve.

WHAT WE DO...

PPH is a comprehensive life plan community that provides a true spirit of living for adults aged 62 and older. Set on more than 13 beautifully landscaped acres in the Lawndale section of Northeast Philadelphia, our tranquil campus features walking paths, raised garden beds, a koi pond, a welcoming, secure gatehouse entrance, and serene outdoor spaces designed to inspire connection, well-being, and an engaging environment.

Our community offers a full continuum of care — Independent Living, Personal Care, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, and Rehabilitation — allowing residents to remain on one campus while receiving the level of support that best meets their needs. Independent Living includes a variety of thoughtfully designed apartment floor plans across three interconnected buildings, while Personal Care and Memory Care provide private living spaces with additional assistance and support. For those requiring advanced services, our Pathways Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation programs deliver 24-hour care and comprehensive therapies with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Residents enjoy a vibrant community center with a state-of-the-art wellness center, heated indoor pool, chapel, art studio, library, and life enrichment programs that nurture the mind, body, and spirit. The Social Hall serves as a lively center for performances, educational seminars, and social gatherings. With multiple dining venues, a bar for happy hours, bank, gift shop, a primary care medical practice, convenience store, and our beloved ice cream shop — Scoops — every amenity is at our residents’ fingertips.

What We Do

ONE CAMPUS, MANY CHOICES. INDEPENDENT LIVING

MEMORY CARE

PPH offers 11 different floor plans in three buildings, all inter-connected to the main community center. From cozy studios to large two-bedroom floor plans, there is a perfect fit for everyone’s taste. Many one and two-bedroom apartments feature a patio or balcony, and each floor in every building offers a community lounge for game nights or simply another place to gather with friends and family.

Our Chapters program is designed to support residents that suffer from memory impairment. This safe neighborhood offers a soothing environment for our residents while providing specialized care so that they can thrive. In addition to care, residents enjoy a life enrichment program that creates a stimulating environment.

PERSONAL CARE PPH’s Personal Care neighborhood is located in the center of the community and is close to activities, dining, the library and other community spaces.

Personal Care residents enjoy their own private residences and amenities, while also being welcomed to take advantage of the entire campus’s amenities.

Residents in Personal Care are able to receive additional assistance with the activities of daily living, such as bathing, medication management, and meals.

Our staff is committed to providing assistance while helping residents maintain and achieve their highest level of independence.

SKILLED NURSING – LONG-TERM CARE For those residents in need of the highest level of care, Pathways Skilled Nursing provides 24-hour care while focusing on dignity and respect for the individual.

Residents’ rooms are spacious and bright, with many lounges and dining venues to enjoy. There is also a beautiful outdoor garden with seating for residents and their loved ones to visit.

REHABILITATION PPH offers a comprehensive therapy program to assist residents in their recuperation from an illness, injury, or surgery. The ultimate goal is to improve their quality of life and get them back to their daily routines as soon as possible.

On-site physical and occupational therapy offers a great convenience to our short-term rehabilitation patients.

OUR FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPH) continues to move forward with a strategic plan to stabilize financial assets and restructure operations in support of long term sustainability. During 2025, PPH partnered with a management company — EverTrue — that aligns with our mission, values, and vision for the future.

Although the financial statements reflect a reduction in net assets, the year was marked by intentional steps to streamline operations, restructure expenses, and pursue revenue enhancements. These actions were undertaken thoughtfully to position PPH for long term stability while maintaining our commitment to high quality care.

We are grateful for your continued support and wish to thank you, our donors, community and residents for your ongoing support and your commitment and belief in our vision. As we continue this important work, we do so with profound appreciation for everyone who makes the PPH community strong. Your trust, partnership, and belief in our mission inspire us every day. We remain deeply committed to honoring that trust by advancing the quality, stability, and vitality of PPH for generations 26% to come. Looking ahead, PPH’s multi-year plan will focus on strengthening revenue, building census, enhancing operational efficiency, and expanding services that meet the evolving needs of our residents.

Significant strides have been made in expanding our marketing service area, improving amenities and services, and enhancing our surrounding environment. We continue to focus on strengthening our team, upgrading our technology, and laying the groundwork for new, innovative programs that will better serve both our Residents and our Team Members.

PLANNED GIFTS AT PPH CHARITIABLE GIFT ANNUITIES

A GIFT TO PPH VIA YOUR WILL

Our charitable gift annuity program was created as a service to the many friends who wish to make a gift of significance while continuing to receive income from the donated property during their lifetime.

Gifts made through your will may be designated as a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. A bequest allows you to retain full control of your assets during your lifetime while creating a lasting legacy of support for PPH.

A charitable gift annuity is a contract in which you exchange a gift of cash or securities for a guaranteed, fixed income each year for the rest of your life. It is truly a winwin opportunity for both the donor and PPH.

Our Impact

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service In January, PPH honored the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a month of meaningful events, including a day of service, a live play reading, and art that reflected our shared community and family. As part of our MLK Day of Service, we launched the return of Joy of Socks Week, building on the success of our 2024 sock drive.

The theme of “Beloved Community” celebrated team member families with a special slideshow presentation highlighting the many families who work together at PPH. PPH is home to a variety of family connections — including spouses, parent-child pairs, aunts and nieces, and even grandmothers and granddaughters working side by side in our community.

MMS PPH hosted a special event celebrating the Medical Mission Sisters’ (MMS) 100 years of healing missions around the world.

The event — attended by MMS Sisters, Associates and friends — honored the 19 Sisters and Associates who reside at PPH.

PPH 135 The PPH 135 celebration on March 4 acknowledged the past, celebrated the present, and kicked off a giving campaign that looks towards the future.

A special slideshow presentation took attendees on a journey through PPH’s rich history, starting in 1889 when a group of German Protestant ministers sought to establish a home for aging neighbors in need of shelter and care. Just one year later, in 1890, the Philadelphia German Protestant Home for the Aged was founded on N. 5th St. In 1899, PPH moved to its current location in the Lawndale neighborhood of Philadelphia.

The slideshow highlighted key moments in PPH’s evolution — from its early days as “The Old Folks Home” in the 1920s to the construction of the Webb Building in the 1960s, the development of Independent Living buildings in the 1970s and 1980s, and numerous expansions and enhancements over the years.

While the people, buildings and society have changed, PPH’s mission of providing a caring community where residents can achieve their highest quality of life remains, as does its commitment to benevolence.

The PPH Auxilary provided a check in honor of 135 years.

Our Impact

Juneteenth Celebration PPH held its annual Juneteenth celebration, filled with history, trivia, games, food, music and more!

Local High School Alumni Alumni of St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls, spanning the Class of 1946 to 1970, shared a lunch with Bella, Gianna and Shana from the Class of 2025! Special thanks to our Culinary team for preparing the delicious meal and accommodating this group of Bambies as they enjoyed great food and shared stories about their high school days.

PPH held a gathering of Little Flower High School resident-alumni on May 13. Residents and guests reminisced about their high school days and discussed all things Little Flower with LF President Kristie Dugan.

New Van Enhances Resident Transportation PPH, in partnership with State Representative Anthony Bellmon, secured funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that was used to purchase a new wheelchair accessible van. This van is used to transport PPH residents to medical appointments and community outings. Representative Bellmon presented PPH with a generous check for $84,350!

“I was very proud to help secure this funding that will make it easier to get residents out and around,” said Bellmon. “Whether it’s to visit loved ones, shop, attend appointments or simply to get out and connect with the community, this is an added amenity that will continue PPH’s excellent service to its residents.”

Veterans Day PPH celebrated its veterans with a Veterans Day Luncheon. Many veterans across all levels of care joined, including 103-yearold WWII vet Kenneth Strobel (pictured with PPH leadership).

Special thanks to Saint Cecelia School students for speaking on the meaning of patriotism and in remembrance of POW/MIA soldiers — and for helping serve lunch to our residents and guests.

Founders’ Day Founders’ Day at PPH is an annual celebration that honors PPH’s history, while recognizing residents, team members, donors, and volunteers who make a profound impact today.

This special day also highlights the community’s spirit and upholds the mission and core values that have guided PPH for more than 135 years.

The Barbara P. Rebmann Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care The Philadelphia Protestant Home is honored to announce the establishment of the Barbara P. Rebmann Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care, made possible through an extraordinary gift of $1.5 million - a lasting tribute to a life defined by compassion, dedication, and spirited engagement. Her legacy encompasses a tribute and remembrance of her beloved parents Pauline and Erwin Rebmann.

Barbara P. Rebmann lived in Philadelphia for most of her life, was a proud member of the Class of 1962 from Beaver College (now Arcadia University), and lived a life rich in service, athleticism, and family legacy. Barbara was an avid skier and also an active member of Saint Timothy Lutheran Church. A lifelong educator, Barbara taught in the Pennsauken School District and spent several formative years teaching in Germany, sharing her love of learning across cultures and continents.

Barbara's passion for sports and community was evident in her years of participation in bowling leagues and her active lifestyle. She was also a devoted family historian, preserving cherished memories alongside her beloved cousin Bill and ensuring that generations to come would know their roots.

In the final year of her life, Barbara spent time in rehabilitation at PPH. She passed peacefully at the age of 84 in January 2025 leaving behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and generosity.

The Barbara P. Rebmann Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care will support residents in need, ensuring that compassionate care remains accessible to all members of our community. This fund reflects Barbara's lifelong commitment to service and her deep connection to PPH. Benevolent Care has served over 45 residents in the last five years. Last year PPH Benevolent Care provided over $1.1 million up from $638,442 from two years prior. The industry is seeing this trend increase year over year. We are grateful for the support of all of our donors, especially a legacy gift from the newly established Rebmann Endowment Fund.

We are grateful to Barbara's family and welcome new friends for their support in creating this meaningful legacy. May her memory continue to inspire kindness, care, and community.

Alzheimer’s Awareness PPH concluded its 2025 Fight Against Alzheimer’s campaign in November with a campuswide walk on Nov. 6, and the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Citizens Bank Park on Nov. 8. We thank all PPH residents, team members and friends of PPH who participated and supported these efforts, as well as the PPH Auxiliary for their generous contribution. Together, our community raised $4,517 for the Alzheimer’s Association, a cause close to the hearts of many at PPH. Celebrating 135 Years | 17

The Eberhard and Helen Schea Endowment Fund for Healthcare Education was established in 2007 to support continuing Healthcare education programs, which promotes the overall well-being of PPH residents and staff. Since its inception, 35 employees have been awarded scholarships with a total value of $46,630.

The fund is named in honor of longtime PPH supporters, donors, and residents, Mr. Eberhard “Ebbie” and Mrs. Helen Schea. Ebbie was the manager of the PPH Board of Pensions and an emeritus member of the PPH Board of Directors, while Helen was a member of the PPH Auxiliary. The Scheas’ children, Fred Schea and his wife, Kathleen; and the late Caroline Schea Lloyd and her husband, Jim, established the endowment to honor their parents’ memory and continue the family tradition of generosity.

Congratulations to the five recipients of the 2025 Eberhard and Helen Schea Endowment Fund for Healthcare Education Scholarship! Each recipient shared that support from the Schea Scholarship helps alleviate the financial burden of higher education while allowing them to gain the knowledge and skills needed to further PPH’s mission of providing a caring senior living community where residents can achieve their highest possible quality of life.

aria is enrolled in an LPN-to-RN program at Berkeley M College. She views healthcare as a calling — to serve, heal and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Advancing her nursing education will further enhance her ability to serve the PPH community.

2. Vincent Barrett, Wellness Coordinator incent is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting at V Temple University. He understands the importance of having a concrete life plan and strong financial safeguards, which has inspired his goal of becoming a Retirement Financial Manager.

3. Karenjoy Camba, Recreation Therapy Specialist arenjoy is pursuing a Master of Occupational Therapy degree K at Drexel University. She aspires to work clinically with the aging population and expand her expertise in dementia and memory care through evidence-based research. Karenjoy strives to create positive, welcoming experiences in heakth care settings and make communities less intimidating for those who may feel wary.

4. Marette Spencer, CNA-Personal Care arette is taking courses toward earning her Nursing Home M Administrator (NHA) certification, further strengthening her professional skills in long-term care.

5. Medjina Stephar, Human Resources Generalist edjina is earning her Master of Business Administration M degree in Human Resources Management at Temple University. Medjina prides herself on being an advocate for fair workplace practices, she is deeply committed to advancing PPH’s mission by fostering a culture of compassion, inclusion, and employee development.

PPH Leader Graduates from LeadingAge PA Program PPH proudly congratulates Marge Felix, Senior Director of Resident Engagement, on her graduation from LeadingAge PA’s Fellows in Leadership program.

In June 2025, Marge was welcomed into the program’s Alumni Council at LeadingAge PA’s 2025 Annual Conference in Hershey, Pa. The nine-month program brought together aging services professionals from across Pennsylvania for leadership development focused on communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

A member of the PPH team since 1993, Marge has a Master of Social Work degree from Temple University and oversees Social Services, Wellness, Pastoral Services, Recreation Therapy, and Life Enrichment, supporting meaningful resident engagement across campus.

“The Fellows in Leadership program gave me greater self-awareness in my leadership style and abilities. It’s a strong foundation for my career.”

Independent Residents Association The PPH Independent Residents Association consists of seven elected officers, duly elected representatives, and resident delegates. Each part of the Association has its own duties, who each work together to carry out the PPH mission.

The purpose of the Residents’ Association is to inform residents and enable them to have a voice regarding the overall operations of PPH. The Residents’ Association helps create and cultivate an enjoyable, active, and useful community life for residents.

A new chapter guided by strategic partnership In 2025, PPH announced the decision to engage EverTrue — a faith-centered nonprofit — as its new management company.

This partnership allows PPH to leverage the expertise, innovation, and best practices of a professional management team — without relinquishing identity or governance.

EverTrue (EverTrueLiving.org) brings experience from 15 Life Plan and 16 Affordable Housing communities in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Missouri.

“We are truly honored to begin our partnership with PPH,” said EverTrue President & CEO Adam Marles. “At EverTrue, we are committed to creating places, services and opportunities for people to age well with purpose and fulfillment. We’re excited to collaborate with PPH to continue the exceptional care and spirit that define the community.”

Women’s History Month In celebration of Women’s History Month, nine PPH women residents gave presentations throughout March. Topics touched on childhood memories, travel adventures, motherhood, volunteerism, advocacy, retirement, and much more. Each story offered a glimpse into their life journeys and inspiring lives they’ve led.

PPH residents — as part of a special Women’s History Month Collection Drive — donated items of need and joy.

A total of 17 boxes, weighing more than 180 pounds were donated, to be given to residents in Personal Care and Pathways.

Black History Month Educator and community advocate Andrea Lawful-Sanders spoke on “Radical Compassion in a Time of Discord” during a special Black History Month presentation on Feb. 4. Andrea told various stories about her work in local communities, spoke about her own life, and took questions from the audience.

PPH Auxiliary Highlights 2025 Established in 1889, the Auxiliary of The Philadelphia Protestant Home embodies a longstanding tradition steeped in service and community spirit, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of numerous residents and their families. Engaged in fundraising, social activities and direct resident service programs, dedicated members are committed to furthering the mission of PPH.

SPECIAL EVENTS AND PROGRAMS: Presented Annual Winter Holiday Bazaar and Flea Market in Social Hall with PPH partners offering crafts, plants, wreaths, quilts, artwork, stained glass, hand-crafted jewelry, and raised $2,500 for Benevolent Care. The year continued with many events and programs presented by the PPH Auxiliary, which included: •E xpanded apartment sales •M obile greeting card and gift packaging sales •C ollections of personal items and cosmetics for residents •P rovided clothing and household goods to other missions or organizations •C ontinued the initiative for an Eyeglass Collection Box in the Medical Office Waiting Room in cooperation with the Lions Club of the Chapel of Four Chaplains and a used/cancelled stamp collection for “Stamps for Wounded Veterans” •F inanced the cost of school buses for the students at Rhawnhurst Elementary School to visit and perform for PPH residents on Halloween and Christmas and a Spring intergenerational crafts fair for students and residents •C ollection of clothing and personal items for a local fire displacing 28 families and a drive with the 2nd Police District to provide warm clothing for the unhoused.

The PPH Auxiliary consists of 150 residents, PPH staff and community volunteers.

Volunteers at PPH - The Heart of Our Community One of our most engaging programs at PPH is our successful Volunteer Program where residents and community members come together with camaraderie, socialization, friendship, great conversations and smiles every day. Over 160 residents and community members provided a total of 22,000 hours to PPH in 2025.

Their hard work and dedication provided support to Tabor Market, Gift Shop, Craft Room, Greenhouse, our mail room and deliveries, and many other areas — bringing fulfillment to essential tasks and strengthening the sense of community among all who volunteered together.
