MCGARD SPLINE DRIVE LUG NUTS

I’ve been around cars long enough to know that lug nuts aren’t exactly the sexiest mod, but they’re one of the most critical. When McGard sent over a set of their Spline Drive Lug Nuts, I knew I had to see if they lived up to the hype.

ARE THEY WORTH SPOILER ALERT: THEY DO. THE HYPE?

FIRST IMPRESSIONS – CLEAN, RETAIL-READY PACKAGING

The first thing I noticed? The packaging. McGard clearly put thought into it— it’s display-friendly but also practical. The set comes in five packs of four, which makes sense for a five-lug setup. I expected four packs of five, but hey, you get exactly what you need either way.

Then there’s the finish. At first glance, I almost called it anodized, but McGard takes it up a notch with PVD coating. That means no chipping, flaking, or rusting— ever. For something that sits inches from the ground, constantly exposed to road grime, that’s a huge deal.

BREAKING DOWN THE FEATURES –SPLINE DRIVE & ROTATING SEAT

These aren’t your run-of-the-mill hex lug nuts. Instead, they use a spline drive system, which brings a few serious advantages:

• ADDED SECURITY: The unique installation tool makes these harder to remove without the right key.

SLIM PROFILE: Perfect for wheels with tight lug recesses, like JDM and import setups.

• ROTATING CONICAL SEAT: This is a game-changer. It reduces wear on both the lug and the wheel while ensuring even torque application. No more chewed-up wheels from uneven pressure.

BUILT FOR PERFORMANCE –LIGHTER, STRONGER, SMARTER

These lug nuts are made from hardened steel, designed specifically for aluminum wheels with a 60-degree taper. That means a perfect fit with no tool interference in tight lug wells—a common headache McGard solves effortlessly.

And here’s a cool detail: they’re 30% lighter than stock lug nuts. If you’re serious about performance, you know that shaving unsprung weight improves handling, acceleration, and braking. It’s a small change, but one that adds up on track days.

INSTALLATION – NO IMPACT GUNS

ALLOWED

McGard includes a spline drive tool for installation, and the fitment is super precise—no slop, no stripping. But here’s the golden rule: NO AIR TOOLS. They even slap a warning sticker on the packaging for good measure. Using an impact gun could strip your studs or wreck the threads, so take your time and do it right.

OPTIONS FOR EVERY BUILD

The set I tested comes in a sleek black PVD finish, but McGard also offers chrome versions with the same high-durability coating. Need more security? They have locking lug nut options, too—something worth considering if you’re parking in highrisk areas.

FINAL THOUGHTS – WHY MCGARD STANDS OUT

Lug nuts might not be the flashiest mod, but they’re one of the most important. After unboxing and handling McGard’s Spline Drive set, it’s clear why so many enthusiasts trust them. The quality, engineering, and attention to detail are top-tier.

If you’re looking for a durable, lightweight, and secure lug nut solution, McGard delivers. Check out their full lineup at McGard.com and find the right set for your build.

Big thanks to McGard for sending these over—now, time to get these installed!

ALL WEATHER VS ALL SEASON TIRES

TOYO CELSIUS II TIRES

Toyo Tires dropped their latest innovation, and it's one that a lot of you are going to want to pay attention to. They sent us their brand-new Celsius II, an all-weather tire that’s built for more than just the average road. Unlike your typical all-season tire, this one is far better equipped for winter. In fact, it stacks up against some competitors' dedicated winter tires—though it's not quite one itself.

hat said, Toyo isn’t playing around with winter performance here. The Celsius II proudly rocks the Triple Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol, meaning it’s been tested and rated for serious snow conditions. That means solid performance in snow, slush, and ice, all while keeping the versatility of an all-season tire.

WHO’S THIS TIRE FOR?

This tire is built for drivers who need a little bit of everything. If you:

• Don’t have room for a second set of tires, Don’t drive much in the winter but still need safe handling, or Just don’t want to deal with the hassle of swapping tires every season, …then this is exactly the one-anddone solution you need.

Of course, if you live somewhere with brutal winters and extreme road conditions, a dedicated winter tire is still going to be your safest option. But for mild to moderate winter driving, the Celsius II is more than capable.

ASYMMETRICAL TREAD DESIGN: WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?

Now, let’s talk about why this tire works so well year-round. The Celsius II features an asymmetrical tread pattern that basically tells the whole story:

• The outer edge looks and performs like a traditional all-season tire.

• The inner edge is more winter-optimized, with a tread designed to bite into ice and snow.

• The wide center grooves evacuate water, slush, and snow efficiently, reducing the risk of hydroplaning and improving wet traction.

WINTER-READY PERFORMANCE

The Celsius II is made from a coldweather compound that stays flexible even below 7°C, so you won’t lose grip when temperatures drop. But that’s not all:

• Snow Claw Technology: Deep tread claws dig into snow-packed roads, improving traction when things get sketchy.

• Vertical & angled siping: Helps maintain stability on icy and wet roads, while keeping traction on compact snow. Saw-tooth tread edges: Further boost grip, giving you better control in winter conditions.

SMOOTH AND QUIET RIDE

Now, you might be wondering: Does all this winter grip mean a noisier ride?

Not with Toyo. Thanks to their industry-leading noise reduction tech, the Celsius II stays quiet and smooth, making it a comfortable yearround option.

WHERE TO GET YOURS

If you’re looking to grab a set of Celsius II or want to check out Toyo’s full lineup, head over to toyotires.com or toyotires.ca.

There’s something special about a proper driving rally. It’s more than just a road trip, it’s an organized adventure, and a weekend filled with unforgettable moments. The PAS365 Rally presented by ST Suspension took that feeling to the next level. Whether it was from Toronto to New Jersey or Las Vegas to Salt Lake, with a lineup of wild builds, scenic routes, and a destination at Formula Drift, the PAS365 Rally was the ultimate weekend for all car enthusiasts.

START

GARAGE + SOCIAL

1220 Corporate Dr, Burlington, ON

It all kicked off at Hagerty Garage and Social with a light breakfast, some swings on the golf sim, and a few sponsored giveaways. The energy was high as familiar faces from last year’s rally reunited, and newcomers joined the PAS rally family. The car lineup? Absolutely unexpected, even for car enthusiasts. Everything from a BRZ running -13 degrees of camber to up to another BRZ making 1,000hp.

With rally stickers applied and lastminute car checks done, it was time to roll. Cruising down highways we all were enjoying the experience, driving a group of wild builds straight out of a movie, was something special. A low n’ slow cruise kept the vibes immaculate as we headed toward the US border, where crossing was (thankfully) smooth.

Our first stop? A quick meet right across the border, where some of our Canadian participants got their first taste of American McDonald’s, a true culture shock. With bellies full of America’s finest, the convoy pushed on toward Pineview Run Auto & Country Club, but not without some adventure along the way. Some drivers took the “get there when we get there” approach, stopping at every fun detour. Others were all gas, no brakes, just soaking in the drive. With iced coffees in hand, the perfect weather, and Upstate NY’s stunning roads, the experience was nothing short of amazing.

STOP 1

AFTER BORDER MEET MCDONALD’S (84.9 km)

Arriving at Pineview Run Auto & Country Club , we hit a slight predicament: the only driver on the rally with a 5x100 bolt pattern caught a flat, and had no spare. Luckily, “ground control” back at the PASMAG HQ worked some magic and sourced one out for him. With that all sorted out, we got to enjoy hot laps on Pineview’s technical track, surrounded by mountains accompanied by the sounds of nature and SR20’s.

After an adrenaline-fuelled session, it was time to head toward New Jersey for dinner. A smooth four-hour drive later, we arrived at an outdoor patio, where food, rally awards, and giveaways from sponsors like R1 Concepts, Niche Wheels, Turbokits. com, Proform, and Liqui Moly wrapped up an incredible first day.

Day one was about the journey, day two was all about the destination: Formula Drift Englishtown. As part of the Rally registration, every car was entered into the Tuning365 show, giving Formula Drift spectators a front-row seat to some jawdropping builds that made the trek.

the same rally fun from Vegas to Salt Lake City. It was something we had been cooking up since the first PAS365 Rally to Englishtown in 2023, and after establishing some partnerships with good friends in the area, we made it happen. The plan was simple enough: Rendezvous at K-Ways Car Lounge in Las Vegas, journey through the desert and up the mountain on a scenic drive to Salt Lake City, with a grand finale dinner at Garage Grill & Salt Flats Bar before joining the Tuning365 Show at Formula DRIFT: Salt Lake City the next morning.

It all started with a pre-meet at K-Ways Car Lounge the night before the rally kicked off. This was a great chance for participants to break the ice, catch up with familiar faces, and to find out what the PAS365 Rally is all about. After turning in [relatively] early, we were up with the sunrise the following morning to brave the Vegas heat and get the rolling party started. Participants were treated to breakfast and road trip snacks before we stickered up everyone’s car with their own rally numbers, and we were off into the desert in no time.

The next several hours were a blur. Some of the most beautiful driving roads and scenic views Nevada, Arizona, and Utah had to offer were traversed, with stops at incredible locations like the North View Lookout and the childhood home of Butch Cassidy. We also made a stop for lunch at the beautiful Burger Barn & BBQ in the mountains of Utah. The whole route was full of some of the most stunning views and changes in weather as we moved from the desert floor up to the chilly mountain tops. Along the way, we gave out some incredible prizes - a brand new Precision Turbo from TurboKits.com, a set of Rotiform wheels, a brake kit courtesy of R1 Concepts, a Koyorad radiator, and multiple sets of ODX Lighting lights. We’re eternally grateful for the sponsors like ST Suspension. that embarked on this journey with us, embracing the spirit of street driving our modified cars, and allowing us to give away so much cool stuff! Bolton, ON, Canada

If you’re a long-time viewer or reader, you may already know the name Vasily Mishukov. In addition to having previously owned one of the wildest Audi A4 Avant builds ever - complete with more audio than we knew what to do with - he’s also a member of TSH Auto. TSH Auto is responsible for the drifting Porsche Cayenne, and most recently, this 2009 Audi A5 drift car. If it doesn’t look like an ‘09 A5, that’s because it shouldn’t. It’s wearing the body of a 2015 RS5, made of carbon kevlar.

Under the hood is a heavily modified VW VR6 engine, which uses the 3.2L block with the camshaft from a 2.8L version of the potent VW powerplant. All in, this setup is good for 730 whp, perfectly capable of getting this A5 sideways at the drop of the loud pedal. All of the hard work building such a unique drift car earned Mishuvok the Driver’s Choice award at Tuning365 Englishtown 2024.

MICHAEL SONESEN

@jdmhonduh

The S2000 is a frequently modified platform, with most examples being taken to the extreme by the time enthusiasts get their hands on them. Michael Sonesen of TEam37 kept his S2000 simple and clean, focusing on drivability, reliability, and period-correct styling. As expected from his team name, the S2K is outfitted with RAYS TE37s, complemented by subtle style mods like an AP1 trunk spoiler and a KW V3 coilover setup for the perfect stance.

Sonesen’s dedication to simple functionality and style makes his S2000 stand out, earning him an award at Formula DRIFT Englishtown in 2024.

2007 SUBARU FORESTER SCOTT WILSON

@scooter_bluecar

Photography by Donnie Rochin ( @r0cean11)

Let’s say you’re shopping for a dream Subaru. Do you opt for the sportiness and power of the STi? Or would you rather enjoy the practicality of the Forester? Scott Wilson couldn’t choose between the two, so he dedicated his build to offering the best of both worlds. His Forester received a unique heart transplant in the form of a Subaru STi Type RA EJ25 block and rebuilt B25 heads to match, along with a healthy dose of bolt-on modifications and supporting mods to turn the boost up a bit.

A plethora of JDM styling and custom bits complete the look of this Forester inside and out, and WIlson’s car is better for it. The neon STi badging is a nice touch, hinting at the beast beneath the stylish exterior. It’s immediately clear that this build is a labor of love, encompassing all the things Wilson dreamed his Subaru could be. We especially appreciate the high-quality audio system which is perfect for cruising!

2003 MITSUBISHI LANCER OZ RALLY ANDRE FELIX HERNANDEZ

The Lancer OZ Rally Edition is a model from the early 2000s that often flies under the radar. While most enthusiasts would opt for the Evo of the same generation, it’s not always financially viable, especially with current prices. Andre Felix Hernandez wasn’t intending a big power build, so the rare 2003 Lancer OZ Rally edition served as the perfect canvas for his vision.

With a focus primarily on aesthetics and hitting local shows, he radically transformed the OZ’s exterior with the help of some carefully chosen aero. The Kaminari JDM front end, Evo-styled carbon fiber hood, Evo 9 wing, and a variety of tasteful add-ons make this Lancer truly one of a kind. For his efforts, Hernandez received the TBGLIVE award at Importfest 2024.

Joe Somers 1995 MAZDA MIATA

We love Miatas. Doesn’t everybody? If your answer is no, keep it to yourself, because every car enthusiast should appreciate the humble Miata. So, imagine our surprise when we took a closer look at Joe Somers’ 1995 Miata at T365 St. Louis, and realized this pint-sized party car makes a whopping 450 horsepower, more than 100 horsepower output per cylinder compared to the original engine. As you might expect, that

doesn’t come from an ordinary bolt-on Miata build. After fitting the Miata with a KBD kit, suspension, and paint, Somers decided to pull and build the Miata engine from the bottom up.

Today, the only original parts inside the engine are the crankshaft and cams. It's been bored out to 1.9L displacement and is boosted by a 2867R turbo pushing 30 psi. For his efforts, Somers was awarded an Editor’s Choice award at Tuning365 St. Louis, which we believe is well deserved!

Kyle Crangle

1997 NISSAN 240SX

@kylehasfuny

Kyle Crangle has had his fair share of experience in S-chassis builds. He crashed an S14 drifting (oops), blew up at least 5 SR20s (oops, again), and finally settled on a build style that fits his personality and driving tastes. After his experience with too many SRs failing under high power builds, he decided it was finally time to bite the bullet and swap in a 1JZ-GTE from a JZX100 to handle the kind of power he wanted in his 240sx.

With a Borg Warner S261SXE mated to his JZ, and all sorts of supporting mods to keep it working together, the heart of Crangle’s S14 is ready to go at any time. Styling remains relatively simple and JDM pure, with an emphasis on remaining a fun street car that can get down at the track. His combination of high performance and simple styling earned him a Driver’s Choice award at Tuning365 FD St. Louis in 2024.

2019 SUBARU WRX

JAMES TINERELLA

@jaytinerella

@jakestlphotography)

ASubaru that isn’t World Rally Blue on gold wheels? Color us intrigued. No disrespect to WRB Subaru drivers, but it’s nice to see one that stands out so well! All jokes aside, James Tinerella’s 2019 WRX was the winner of the TBGLIVE award at T365 St. Louis after the audience voted for their favorite, and we’re sure the sleek golden exterior helped. The color is Avery Dennison’s Satin Energetic Yellow, and it played well with Tinerella’s choice of a matte iced red engine bay, OLM body kit, and aero bits.

It’s a relatively simple build, for now, but Tineralla’s style choices are leading the way for an exciting build with striking visual presence in a rare color. The bold choice set his WRX apart in St. Louis, and his award is well deserved.

From the moment it was first announced, the race was on to see who could throw every modification they could find to build a Toyota GR Corolla that could take home the hardware in a show. Nicholas Buettner was chomping at the bit to build one, and once he took possession of his 2023 Toyota GR Corolla, he was looking for parts and working on it in the garage. He was determined to be the owner of one of the most modified GR Corollas in the United States. His GR is bolstered with an eclectic mix of performance, style, and creature comfort modifications to turn it into a true 1-of-1, tailored to Buettner’s personal style. Styling is kept relatively simple inside and out, but simplicity allows each modification choice shine. This build is so well crafted that it earned Buettner an Editor’s Choice Award at Tuning365 Seattle in 2024.

Alex Tran

1995 BMW M3

@ruthless.spec

The E36 M3 was ahead of its time, with perfect balance and style. But for Alex Tran, it wasn’t enough. He opted to trade perfect 1990s OEM balance for an S54 engine transplant to really set his car apart. A shaved and tucked engine bay shows off the hard work in a beautiful way. The S54 itself was kept relatively simple to maximize reliability and driving time, with further emphasis placed on presentation and supporting mods. A final 330-wheel horsepower number is plenty for this timeless classic.

Tran’s “less is more” approach to exterior styling goes a long way to preserve the aura of the E36 M3 with a nice, modified touch. The interior is intentionally motorsports-inspired. Many have modified the E36 M3 over the years, but few have done it as tastefully as Alex Tran. His efforts and vision earned him the Driver’s Choice award from Dylan Hughes at Tuning365 Seattle in 2024.

Johnson of Kent, Washington, has one goal for his build: fun! His 1990 Nissan Pulsar GTi-R is the epitome of show-floor fun for all ages, with game consoles, bright colours and lights, and even a fog machine to complement the sound system. It’s a car he’s built over many years and gets a ton of joy out of sharing with onlookers at any show he attends. That crowd-favorite energy he brings to shows earned him a TBGLIVE award by popular vote in 2024, which is no surprise when you see the crowds around the Pulsar, with kids lining up to play Forza on the incar Xbox!

Marvin Sandoval 2006 MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION MR

@evo9_mrv

The Evo 9 is a platform that damn near every enthusiast recognizes in an instant as one of the most prevalent icons of performance in a compact package. Marvin Sandoval is an enthusiast who has appreciated the potential of the Evo platform since he saw the Evo from 2 Fast 2 Furious, and once he got his hands on one of his own, he slowly started gathering parts with the goal of making it even faster.

A few mods in, tragedy struck when another car drove into his front end. This marked a turning point where Sandoval decided that if he was going to fix the car, he was going to do it right, and the list of aftermarket parts on hand grew exponentially. Today, the Evo is his pride and joy, with plenty of performance modifications on tap, and a fresh 4G63 block in the garage being built for the inevitable transplant. For his efforts, Sandoval was awarded an Editor’s Choice award at Tuning365 Salt Lake.

Jimmy Crook’s “Project Wagon” is one of the most unique builds we’ve ever had the pleasure of hosting at our Tuning365 shows. Not only that, but Crook joined us for the PAS365 Rally from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City for Formula DRIFT, braving the hot and humid drive with no air conditioning. This heavily customized ‘98 Subaru Legacy, styled like a Postal vehicle, is powered by a boosted JDM EJ205 which churns out a respectable 344 horsepower and 322 lb-ft. of torque at the wheels.

As you can probably tell by its ride height, this baby is ready for off-roading, between the trails and dunes around Arizona and Nevada. The drivetrain, from a 2002 WRX, handles the added power and TSSFABUS long-travel suspension handles the bumpy terrain with ease. At the Tuning365 Show within FD Utah 2024, Crook and Project Postal were awarded the Driver’s Choice award. Well deserved!
