FANS, DEAR INDYCAR

Welcome to The Honda Indy Toronto, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ only visit to Canada in 2023. INDYCAR is committed to delivering a comprehensive fan experience through outstanding entertainment and thrilling competition as our drivers take on all obstacles presented by Exhibition Place’s 1.786-mile street circuit.

Whether this is your first INDYCAR SERIES race weekend or you have been attending this race for years, we are excited for you to witness the spectacle of the sport. A weekend in Toronto is a special event, so we urge you to take in as much as possible and enjoy it all.

You’ll see close competition on the track from our elite driver lineup as they compete for the most challenging championship in motorsports, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. It’s unpredictable and you won’t know the winner until the checkered flag falls.

But the series is on the path to being one of the most sustainable racing series in the world. Our partners at Shell have created a 100% Renewable Race Fuel – which debuted earlier this season – and Firestone has a tire made from rubble produced by the sustainable desert shrub guayule as the alternate tire not only here in Toronto but other street circuits as well.

You should find that the NTT INDYCAR SERIES offers some of the most daring stars in the sport, including reigning series champion Will Power and Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson, young stars like Alex Palou, Pato O’Ward, Rinus VeeKay and Colton Herta and record-chasing legends in the making such as Scott Dixon and fourtime Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves.

While in this beautiful location, we invite you to download the INDYCAR App powered by NTT DATA on your smartphone to get behind-the-scenes driver features, live timing and scoring, in-car cameras and more information to help you follow the action. Also, follow the NTT INDYCAR SERIES online at INDYCAR.com, on Facebook, Twitter and TikTok (@INDYCAR), and keep track of future INDYCAR SERIES stars racing in INDY NXT by Firestone at indynxt.com or on Facebook, Twitter and TikTok (@indynxt)

Thank you for your continued support. INDYCAR appreciates your attendance this weekend. We are glad you can experience the speed, action and excitement that defines the series.

Enjoy the weekend

FANS, DEAR

On behalf of the devoted team at Green Savoree Toronto and Green Savoree Racing Promotions, welcome to the 2023 Honda Indy Toronto! We are excited to bring you the 35th edition of this summer motorsports festival on the downtown streets of Toronto. The three-day experience promises a jampacked lineup of off-track attractions and high-speed racing headlined Friday by the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in the Tiffany Gate Grand Prix of Toronto and Sunday by the NTT INDYCAR SERIES Honda Indy Toronto.

The Honda Indy Toronto proudly continues to support Make-A-Wish Canada® as Your Ontario Honda Dealers Present Honda Fan Friday returns for the 12th time. On Friday, in lieu of paid admission, attendees are encouraged to make a contribution to Make-A-Wish upon entering the festival grounds. To date, the event has raised a cumulative total of $905,000 with each dollar going toward granting wishes for children living with critical illnesses.

Fans will also be treated to sports car action from both Sports Car Championship Canada and Radical Cup Canada. The American Radical series, Blue Marble Radical Cup North America, will also join Radical Cup Canada for a “race-within-a-race” where both series will run on track simultaneously. Finally, open-wheel competition from the USF Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires and USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires development series will round out the weekend schedule.

To complement the on-track entertainment, family-friendly fun is a centerpiece to this summer tradition at Exhibition Place like the ever-popular Honda Indy Toronto Rookie Racers’ program for our youngest fans aged 12 and under to experience. Festival-goers can also explore Thunder Alley, the place to grab food and drinks at our world-class food vendors and beer gardens, or buy merchandise to commemorate your trip.

It takes over 400 volunteers to keep the Honda Indy Toronto running smoothly each year. We are grateful to each and every one of you, new and returning, for your commitment to the success of this racing festival.

This event would not be possible without the support of our partners, especially Honda Canada, Ontario Honda Dealers, the City of Toronto, Province of Ontario and Exhibition Place. These relationships have helped us grow the Honda Indy Toronto over the years, and strive to improve the fan experience at the Honda Indy Toronto.

Now our biggest thanks goes to you, our fans. Without your passion and patronage, this great event would not be possible. We hope you have a fun, enjoyable and memorable Honda Indy Toronto!

is one pit road incident from effectively being undefeated since May.

12 2023 HONDA INDY TORONTO OFFICIAL FAN GUIDE // PROGRAM.HONDAINDY.COM

He went undefeated in June, taking the Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America on June 18 and the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on June 4 -- from the pole, no less – and started July with a win in the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on July 2.

He would have had a terrific chance to win the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge had Rinus VeeKay not spun into him on pit road on Lap 94. That he fought back from being 28th following an extra pit stop to finish fourth might just be what helps him win a second season title.

Palou also won the GMR Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and earned the pole for the “500.” He is riding a streak of eight consecutive top-five finishes and has built a lead of 110 points – more than two full races -- through the season’s first nine events.

“We got the win at the GMR, got the pole at Indy, got the pole here and the win (in Detroit),” Palou said. “Obviously, we’re (on) a roll.”

Next on the schedule is the Honda Indy Toronto on streets of Toronto’s Exhibition Place, where Palou finished sixth a year ago. In other words, Palou might not cool for a while, and by then it might be too late for the competition.

“The next couple of races are really good for us,” he said. “We’ll try and keep it going.”

Interestingly, Palou doesn’t think his season got off to a good start, and he bases that on an eighth-place finish in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding. Yet even with that factored in, his average starting position (3.6) and average finishing position (3.2) are less than half of what he posted in his title-winning season and significantly better than the INDYCAR SERIES champions over the past decade have finished.

13 2023 HONDA INDY TORONTO OFFICIAL FAN GUIDE // PROGRAM.HONDAINDY.COM

Perhaps Palou’s dominance shouldn’t come as a surprise based on how he finished last season. Remember that crushing blow he delivered at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca? He led more than 70 percent of the laps that day and finished more than 30 seconds ahead of the field. He’s been strong ever since.

“I’ve had fast cars every weekend,” Palou said. “Yeah, couldn’t ask for more now.”

Palou will take a 110-point lead over Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon into Toronto, and that advantage is the largest of Palou’s career. In his championship-winning season, Palou never led by more than 42 points

and finished 38 points ahead of Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden.

Obviously, there are miles still to travel this season in pursuit of the Astor Challenge Cup, but to borrow a phrase from Yankees great Yogi Berra, it could be getting late early.

Palou isn’t ready to talk championship just yet, but it will be increasingly difficult to avoid the subject if his hot streak continues.

“Honestly, there’s a lot of races to go,” he said. “We got the lead (five)

races ago, now suddenly we have this amazing lead.

“On the same way that we go up, there’s somebody that can go up, as well, and we can go down. That’s INDYCAR. That’s the high level of competition that we have there. There’s a lot.

“I think in 15 weeks we can have 10 race weekends. It’s going to be tough to keep the energy up for everybody. But having that lead, it’s going to help us. Hopefully we can keep it going and getting bigger.”

DIXON WILL DELIVER?

There are few drivers better on the streets of Toronto than Honda driver Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing. He hopes to continue that trend as the defending race winner returns for the 2023 Honda Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place.

It’s one of the major sporting events of the season in Toronto; and an important weekend for the Ontario Honda Dealers –a main partner of the Honda Indy Toronto.

Dixon started second and drove to his fourth Honda Indy Toronto win in 2022. That continued

an impressive streak for Dixon, who has two wins and one second place finish in the last three IndyCar contests here. In 14 starts at Toronto, Dixon has four wins, six podiums and two poles, and has led an astounding 240 laps, including a race-high 40 laps in last year’s victory.

By Bruce Martin Photography by Phillip Abbott & Michael L. Levitt
16 2023 HONDA INDY TORONTO OFFICIAL FAN GUIDE // PROGRAM.HONDAINDY.COM

“It's a circuit that you can really attack,” Dixon said of Toronto. “Some of the circuits now, with some of the tires that we have, you almost have to drive at 8/10ths [to limit tire wear]. This one you can drive at 12/10ths. You can overextend yourself, find that little bit more speed, risk

versus reward. I can't stand circuits with a lot of runoff; you make a mistake, and nothing happens.

“Toronto is very technical, very tricky. A bit of a bullring. There's no real time to let up.” He proved that in last year’s Honda Indy Toronto.

The driver of the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing started on the outside of the front row, made his first pit stop on Lap 18 and was able to keep the hard-charging Honda driven by Colton Herta in his rear-view mirror all the way to the checkered flag. Dixon defeated Herta by 0.8106 seconds. It was an IndyCar-record 18th-straight season that Dixon has won a race.

Dixon’s win was also historic. It was his 52nd career IndyCar win, tying him with Mario Andretti for second place on the all-time victory.

“It means a lot,” Dixon said of the achievement. “I love Mario. I love Mario for so many reasons, what

he's done in the sport, achieved, what he gives back to the sport. It means a lot to me, to even be mentioned in the sale conversation as these greats. I never thought it was possible.”

Dixon, who now has 53 career wins, returns to Toronto in 2023 hoping to extend his seasons with a victory streak one more year and get one more victory closer to AJ Foyt’s all-time career win record of 67.

“We'll keep going, man,” Dixon said. “If we can get on a roll here and knock out some wins, anything's possible.

Dixon is off to another great start in the 2023 IndyCar Series season and believes the Honda Indy Toronto is one of the highlights of his season.

“It’s cool, it’s fun,” Dixon said. “Going to Canada always is a lot of fun. It’s a great atmosphere there and a fun circuit. We have gone through many different iterations throughout the past 20 years, but it’s a fun track.”

17 2023 HONDA INDY TORONTO OFFICIAL FAN GUIDE // PROGRAM.HONDAINDY.COM

“We’ve had good races at Toronto and have had some great battles there, going all the way back to my days with [former teammate] Dario Franchitti.”

Dixon turns 43 on July 22, but remains a prime contender for the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series championship, which would tie him with AJ for the all-time record of seven IndyCar championships.

“To get that seventh championship would be career defining,” Dixon said. “Hopefully, we can make that come true.”

Dixon has come a long way since he drove to victory at Nazareth Speedway on May 7, 2001, to become the youngest winner in IndyCar history [at that time] as a 20-year-old.

“I remember the day winning my first race, the next day was a real struggle,” Dixon recalled, referring to the after effects of his celebration. “I remember even having the conversation with Michael Andretti about getting to his number (42

wins). ‘Man, you're crazy, it's not going to happen.’

“He was like, ‘No, it's going to happen. Honestly, it's going to happen really fast.’

“Honestly, at the age of 20, man, trust me, I had other things on my mind at that point. I was just trying to keep my job.

“Even being in IndyCar racing for 20-plus years, I'm still learning every day, man, and it doesn't stop. It's continuous. It's hard work. I guess that's the biggest thing. You've got to

be committed and you've got to be committed for everybody that's involved, but you have to get after it.”

The distance from Dixon’s hometown of Auckland, New Zealand to Toronto, Ontario is 8,632 miles or 13,879 kilometers. It’s pretty much on the other side of the Earth.

But the two countries are both part of the British Commonwealth. New Zealand and Canada are members of the United Kingdom. In a sense, that makes Toronto Dixon’s “home track.”

“It always feels goods to win at Toronto,” the Honda driver said. “That's when you turn it up a little bit, just that extra bit.

“Honestly, I feel like I'm at home. The fans are super into it. It's just very special I think to be back here. I think sometimes it takes moments like obviously what we had, we weren't here to really appreciate what we have as a sport and the people that love our sport.

“It's good to be back here in Canada.”

JAMES HINCHCLIFFE CANADIAN RACING LEGEND

2023 HONDA INDY TORONTO OFFICIAL FAN GUIDE // PROGRAM.HONDAINDY.COM 20

Our editor caught up with Canadian Racing legend James Hinchcliffe to find out what's he's been up to since retiring from his full-time seat in the NTT INDYCAR Series.

What have you been up to since retiring from being a full-time driver in the NTT INDYCAR series?

Lots! Obviously first and foremost I’ve been part of the NBC team covering all the IndyCar races. That has been an absolute blast and something I had always wanted to pursue after my full-time driving days were done. I’m really lucky to get to work with that crew. Then I’ve added on some other commentary gigs with F1TV covering a handful of those races, which has been a blast. Been working with partbers of mine like Canadian Tire and CSN Collision Centres on various events. Outside of that I’ve been working on a few side projects, I’m a partner in a company that helps manage young drivers, which has been a lot of fun. Also a few other things that I can’t share quite yet but hopefully can soon!

2023 HONDA INDY TORONTO OFFICIAL FAN GUIDE // PROGRAM.HONDAINDY.COM 21

What do you miss most about competing in the Honda Indy Toronto?

The fans. It was always so cool to get to race at home and see all the support from the crowd. Canadians are so great at supporting their athletes and it was always such a rush to feel that energy on race day.

Do you have a favourite memory from the Honda Indy Toronto?

For sure the podiums. I had such bad luck in that event for the first half of my career, but then the back half was much nicer! Backto-back podiums in ‘16 and ‘17 were definitely career highlights for me.

What advice would you give aspiring Canadian drivers?

It sounds cliche, but never give up. This is a tough, tough sport. It’s not fair and it’s easy to get despondent and want to give up. But the drivers who keep pushing and keep hustling eventually put themselves into a position to prove what they can do.

Where can Canadians catch up with you now?

Well I try to stay active on social media, so you can find me there. And hopefully everyone is tuning in to watch the IndyCar races!

For our visiting American friends, is there a Canadian food they should be sure to try?

Well is has to be poutine, doesn’t it?!

TREYTEN LAPCEVICH OFF TO A COMMANDING 2023 NASCAR PINTY’S SEASON

26 2023 HONDA INDY TORONTO OFFICIAL FAN GUIDE // PROGRAM.HONDAINDY.COM
// Photography

So far, the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series season has seen remarkable finishes, outstanding battles, and one driver dominating it all.

19-year-old Treyten Lapcevich has won three of the first four races, claiming victory at the season opener at Sunset Speedway, the first road course race of the year at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), and the most recent race at Eastbound International Speedway, in Newfoundland & Labrador.

The only race he has not won, was at Autodrome Chaudière where reigning champion, Marc-Antoine Camirand took the checkered flag. Lapcevich still finished second.

“It’s really solid momentum to start the season,” said Lapcevich. “We had a lot of bad luck plague our 2022 season so hopefully we can keep logging these consistent finishes, run up front week in and week out and we’ll be there at the end of the year.”

Now for the fifth stop of the 2023 season, the series heads to Exhibition Place for the Tiffany Gate Grand Prix of Toronto.

One of the biggest race weekends in Canada will feature several of the country's best drivers battling it

out through the tight turns on the Streets of Toronto.

The only other road/ street course this season was earlier in May at CTMP, where Lapcevich executed a perfect bump and run on Camirand coming to the checkered flag.

The 19-year-old only has one start on the streets of Toronto, and while the reigning champion has shown speed on the circuit before, Camirand has also had a lot of bad luck.

“Toronto is a tough track,” said Lapcevich. “It's definitely a race of attrition, but we'll bide our time and make sure we're there at the end. At this point, we're points racing more than ever.”

Only three drivers have won the Grand Prix of Toronto - Andrew Ranger (3), Alex Tagliani (2), and defending race winner Kevin Lacroix (2).

Last year, Lacroix, in the No. 74 Dodge dominated, leading 29 of 35 laps, enroute to his second victory of the season with Ranger and L.P. Dumoulin filling out the podium.

Now, Lacroix sits second in the standings, 23 points behind Lapcevich, as the series enters its busiest, and arguably challenging point of the season.

Looking Ahead

While Lapcevich has held a firm grip on the checkered flags throughout the first third of the season, the months of July and August are where championships can be made and lost.

Following the Tiffany Gate Grand Prix of Toronto, teams will head west to Alberta and Saskatchewan for three races, one at Edmonton International Raceway (Wetaskiwin, AB),

AUGUST 5-13 BUY YOUR TICKETS nationalbankopen.com LIVE THE EXPERIENCE ® NATIONAL BANK and the NATIONAL BANK logo are registered trademarks of National Bank of Canada.

and two at Sutherland Automotive Speedway (Saskatoon, SK).

The month of August features the historic race on the Streets of TroisRivières, QC, two dirt races at Ohsweken Speedway, and the airport tarmac road course of Circuit ICAR.

Alex Guenette, who has been a dark horse so far this year, claimed his first series win last year at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, while Lapcevich will look to go back-to-back at Ohsweken Speedway after winning the inaugural event.

This season the single dirt has been expanded into a double-header on Monday, August 14, and Tuesday, August 15, with the series celebrating its 200th race on the second night.

To kick off the final month, September starts with the last road course

of the season, returning to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, where Camirand mathematically clinched his 2022 Championship with a victory.

Delaware Speedway will once again host the season

finale and set the stage for crowning a champion.

While the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series title is still far from decided, one thing is for certain… It’s going to be a season for the history books.

CANADIAN TALENT ON THE RISE

From the moment Toronto native Mac Clark signed with DEForce Racing to compete in USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires, this weekend has been circled on his calendar.

The 19-year-old sophomore at Ontario Tech University (who is working toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering) can’t wait for the chance to compete on one of the biggest open-wheel stages in Canada.

“I remember coming here when I was 12 or 13 years old, seeing Parker Thompson (the Red Deer, Alberta native) win in USF Pro 2000 with a Canadian team (Exclusive Autosport),” said Clark. “I was walking around the paddock with my dad, before I ever thought about the possibility of racing cars, seeing the few young

Canadian guys. It was a very cool feeling as a kid: it made the racing a little bit more relatable, made me realize it was possible. Now it’s my turn.”

Clark figures that among sponsors, friends and family, the contingent will number somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 people. Does that add pressure?

“Honestly, I put the most pressure on myself. I want to win, I want to succeed in my career. It’s going to be fun.”

Racing was a Clark family hobby, with grandparents on both sides of his family, two uncles and his father all sharing a karting background. As a 13-year-old, he won his first karting championship and represented Canada at the 2017 and 2018 World Karting Finals in Italy. With racing now much more than just a hobby, the Clark family decided it was time to move from karts to cars.

In 2019, Clark was named the F1600 Canada Rookie of the Year and the following season became the series’ youngest champion ever – capturing 16 victories from 18 races.

“After two years and a proper taste of open-wheel racing, I knew in my heart that I wanted a career nothing short of INDYCAR,” said Clark. He finished second in the 2021 US F4 Championship Powered by Honda and joined DEForce Racing to contest the inaugural season of USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires.

Clark made a name for himself right out of the box, scoring victories in each of the first four races. He went on to earn five wins, 10 pole positions and 12 podiums in 16 races to capture the title – and the scholarship that would propel him into USF2000 in 2023.

“I wouldn’t be racing this year without the scholarship. USF Pro Championships does such a great job in that way. It’s such a great ladder, and it allows drivers to keep progressing. Racing is expensive and it’s hard to find the funds to compete, so knowing I could keep my racing career going meant so much to me.”

In 13 races, Clark has scored two wins, two poles and six podiums, lying fourth in championship points.

There will be many new experiences for the young Canadian this weekend, but the opportunity to interact with his hometown fans ranks at the top of his expectation list.

“It’s been so much fun this year, doing all our autograph sessions on the INDYCAR weekends. I’ve met so many nice people and I think it’s going to be crazy this weekend. It’s a cool feeling. It’s cool to interact with the fans – and who knows, maybe that autograph card will be worth something in a few years?

“This is the most special race of the year by far for me, and winning here would mean an opportunity to inspire a future generation of Canadian drivers. I don't only want to win Toronto in USF2000, but the ultimate goal is to win it in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES too.”

The Cooper Tires Grand Prix of Toronto doubleheader takes the green flag Saturday at 1:40 p.m. and Sunday at 8:10 a.m. Fans can meet Clark during an autograph session on Friday at 11:00 am in Heritage Court which will feature all USF Pro Championship drivers.

CHARGE SIKES TAKES

USF2000 preview

It was widely anticipated prior to the new USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires season that it would be hard to match the level of excitement that unfolded in 2022. An intense three-way battle waged throughout the 18-race campaign and was decided only at the last gasp, when preseason favorite Michael d’Orlando edged out Myles Rowe in a dramatic series finale at Portland International Raceway. Rowe’s Pabst Racing teammate Jace Denmark also had been in the thick of the contest until faltering at the final hurdle.

All three protagonists have now graduated onto the next level of the USF Pro Championships ladder, USF Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires. In fact, the top 11 finishers from last year have all moved on to pastures new, opening the door for a fresh crop of youngsters aiming to scoop the champion’s Discount Tire Driver Advancement Scholarship prize, valued at $433,200, to continue their career progression in 2024. And the level of intensity remains undiminished.

Prior to the most recent tripleheader at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course held

in support, as usual, of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Simon Sikes (Pabst Racing), from Augusta, Ga., and Australian Lochie Hughes (Jay Howard Driver Development) had been locked together at the top of the points table. Both drivers had won one race during all but one of the opening four race weekends of the season. They were separated by just three points with 10 races in the books.

But a dramatic incident at Mid-Ohio ultimately could prove pivotal in the title-chase. In the second race of the weekend, Sikes had taken control until his commanding lead was negated by a fullcourse caution. Hughes, running second, glimpsed an opportunity soon after the restart, but a late-braking attempt to make a pass ended in disaster as his car cart-

wheeled into a gravel trap and out of the race. The Jay Howard Driver Development team worked miracles to repair the badly damaged Tatuus USF-22 in time for the final race of the weekend, only for it to grind to a halt on the pace lap. Sikes took full advantage by driving away to a clear victory. It was no more than he deserved after displaying prodigious pace all weekend.

Consequently, Sikes now holds a healthy 40-point advantage with only this weekend’s Cooper Tires Grand Prix of Toronto doubleheader and triple race finale at Portland International Raceway remaining on the schedule.

Hughes’ disastrous weekend in Ohio has brought Nikita Johnson firmly into the title picture, with Canada’s Mac Clark and Evagoras Papasavvas also lurking in the wings.

Johnson, 15, from Gulfport Fla., has won only once this season for VRD Racing but his tally of seven podium finishes has brought him level on points with Hughes. Clark, meanwhile, last year’s inaugural USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires champion, has been on a tear of late with two race wins and three additional podium finishes from his last six starts. And Jay Howard Driver Development’s Papasavvas, another 15-year-old from Loveland, Ohio, has catapulted himself into contention following a win, a second and a fourth at Mid-Ohio.

Nikita Johnson scored his first victory in front of his hometown crowd on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla.

MYLES AHEAD

The premier driver development program in North America has a fresh look for the 2023 season. Under the hood, so to speak, not much has changed. Uniquely in the world of auto racing, each step on the ladder still offers a scholarship to its champion to ensure graduation to the next level. And the overall goal for every young driver remains a seat at the top table – a ride in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

But outwardly, one year after INDYCAR took over as promoter of the top rung on the ladder, INDY NXT Presented by Firestone, the next steps have been rebranded under the

umbrella of the USF Pro Championships Presented by Cooper Tires.

The uppermost of these, USF Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires, is shaping up to be perhaps the most competitive of all time. In addition to attracting the

largest fields since 2012, it is jam-packed with talent. After 11 of the season’s 18 races, there have been seven different winners and no fewer than eight pole-

winners representing five teams and nationalities.

Most of the leading contenders from 2022 have stepped up to INDY NXT, including series champion Louis Foster, who ultimately claimed a scholarship valued at over $614,000 to advance his career. There is a long list of contenders seeking to follow in his footsteps.

Prime among them is Myles Rowe, who has opened up a commanding 64-point lead in the quest to win this year’s Discount Tire Driver Advancement Scholarship, the value of which has been raised to $664,500 to ensure graduation to INDY NXT in 2024.

Rowe, who in 2021 became the first Black driver to win a race on the USF Pro Championships ladder, has stepped up this year from USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires with the Pabst Racing with Force Indy team. He has taken to the more powerful cars like a duck to water. Rowe, a university graduate from Brooklyn, N.Y., is one of only two drivers to have scored multiple wins (four) and poles (two) prior to this weekend’s Cooper Tires Grand Prix of Toronto.

The other multiple race winner (two) and polesitter (three) is the man who edged Rowe to last year’s USF2000 Championship, Michael d’Orlando (Turn 3 Motorsport). The native of Hartsdale, N.Y., has bounced back impressively from a desperately disappointing start to his campaign in which he experienced all manner of misfortune. But despite vaulting from 11th to sixth

in the points table with a strong weekend recently at Mid-Ohio, he still has a mountain to climb with an 82-point deficit to Rowe with only seven races remaining.

The championship order behind Rowe has been shuffled continually with the next 10 drivers separated by just 47 points and a maximum of 33 available from each race.

Brazilian Kiko Porto (DEForce Racing), the 2021 USF2000 champion currently leads the charge, just ahead of

Canadian-owned Exclusive Autosport teammates Joel Granfors, from Sweden, and Salvador de Alba, from Guadalajara, Mexico. The internationally diverse group also includes Italian Francesco Pizzi and Germany-based Albanian Lirim Zendeli, both from TJ Speed Motorsport, Ireland’s Jonathan Browne (Turn 3 Motorsport), and Americans Jace Denmark (Pabst Racing), Jack William Miller (Miller Vinatieri Motorsports) and Reece Ushijima (Jay Howard Driver Development).

Michael d’Orlando has won two of the last four races.

Kiko Porto (12) is still seeking his first win of the season.

TWO EXCITING SERIES WITH 6 RACES THIS WEEKEND

More than 50 Canadian and U.S. drivers to compete at Honda Indy Toronto

Race fans are in for an extra special treat this year with FEL Motorsports’ enhanced return to Honda Indy Toronto after its thrilling debut last year. A third race has been added this year for the Sports Car Championship Canada (SCCC) presented by Michelin race series. And making its debut this year at Honda Indy Toronto is the Emzone Radical Cup Canada (RCC) presented by Michelin, which will also feature three races.

“We are very excited to be back again at the Honda Indy Toronto, especially with the addition of the Emzone Radical Cup Canada to the weekends events,” said Chris Bye,

President of FEL Motorsports. “And we’re excited that fans will get to see six of our races this weekendfour races on Saturday and two races on Sunday.”

“FEL Motorsports has taken Sports Car and Radical racing to the next level in Canada,” said Bye, “and race fans will get to see both of these race series in action on

the streets of Toronto at one of the premier racing weekends in North America.” With ideas from yesteryear merged with today’s opportunities, FEL Motorsports is raising the bar for topflight racing in Canada which also serves as a ladder to help drivers advance to even higher levels of racing in North America and Europe.

Sports Car Championship Canada (SCCC) presented by

The SCCC is the top sports car championship in Canada. This seasons’ grid consists of three internationally recognized classes: GT4, TCR and TCA. The series only features homologated cars from manufacturers including Ford, Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Honda, Porsche, Toyota, Subaru, and Mini. With the addition of the new

entry-level TCA class this year, FEL Motorsports has added another “rung in the ladder” of homologated sports car racing in Canada, making sports car racing more achievable for up-and-coming talent and teams.

The 2023 SCCC season consists of 12 races over four race weekends. Drivers will spend over two hours of track time at each event split between practice, qualifying, and three sprint-style races.

The SCCC was created to provide talented Canadian drivers with a racing platform aligned closely with the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series. The professional events allow teams and drivers to develop at a professional level within Canada. The SCCC offers a fair, yet competitive playing field for drivers to test their level of professionalism against a field of both experienced and up-and-coming talent.

Since its inception in 2021 and with the addition of the TCA class this year, the SCCC has attracted grids of up to about two dozen sports cars. FEL Motorsports, with the support of IMSA, secured a multi-year deal with World Sporting Consulting (WSC) for a coveted TCR licence in Canada from 2022 to 2024, bringing the SCCC into the global racing community.

Featured for this weekend’s SCCC races will be two guest drivers in the TCA class driving FEL Motorsports-owned Hyundai Veloster Turbo cars. "Returning after retirement in 2022 is veteran Canadian racer Bob Attrell, a perpetual podium

finisher and race winner with 136 races in his career. The other guest driver is Canadian, James Vance, now in his 15th year of racing, who currently competes in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports-Car Championship. Also competing in the SCCC races are two featured drivers. Canadian, Mark Wilkins, who races for Bryan Herta Autosport, in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, and veteran race driver, Nick Galante, who is with the VPX Motorsport/Racing To End Alzheimer's team.

Emzone Radical Cup Canada (RCC) presented by Michelin

The Emzone RCC is Canada's premiere championship for Radical sports cars, and makes its first appearance at Honda Indy Toronto this year.

The Emzone RCC is a competitive, fair, and fun environment for drivers who are looking to develop their skills, level up their racing resume, or enjoy an exhilarating weekend at the track, all while putting on a great show for friends, family and fans.

For the first time ever, the Emzone RCC is being joined this weekend with Radical Cup drivers from south of the border - the U.S.-based Blue Marble Radical Cup North America series. Whereas the Emzone RCC is a single-class race series, a variation for the U.S. Blue Marble series is the inclusion of multi-class racing with champions crowned in each class – Pro 1340, Pro 1500, and Platinum.

With both Canadian and U.S. Radical teams competing, fans will see up to 35 drivers battling wheel to wheel around the 2.84-kilometre, 11-turn temporary street circuit, providing lots of racing excitement. The race-within-race format means that the two series

are not racing against each other, but rather the competitors from their own series. Canada’s Emzone RCC cars will feature a blue nose with Michelin branding to identify them and distinguish them from their U.S. counterparts.

IndyCar Legends and Driver Autograph Sessions

VIP guests of FEL Motorsports for the Honda Indy Toronto weekend will be two former IndyCar drivers – two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr. and Toronto’s own Scott Goodyear. Unser and Goodyear will be among the guests at the FEL Motorsports Hospitality Suite throughout the race weekend as well as at autograph sessions all three days.

Al Unser Jr. competed in Toronto’s very first Indy race known as the Molson Indy as part of the Champ Car World Series in 1986 and he won the Toronto race two years later in 1988 and again in 1990. Scott Goodyear first raced at Toronto’s Molson Indy the following year in 1987.

RADICAL CUP BLUE MARBLE

North America’s premier Radical series is a modern-day Can-Am.

As international prototype sportscar racing experiences a renaissance with manufacturers flocking to IMSA and WEC, Radical Motorsports offers drivers of all ages a prototype pathway from track days and grassroots racing to international competition. This year’s Le Mans LMP2 Pro-Am class winner George Kurtz is one such driver who learnt his craft in Radicals at the country club, before progressing to the Blue Marble Radical Cup in his quest to race at La Sarthe. Former European Le Mans Series LMP3 champ Jon Falb is another to use Radical as a stepping-stone, while a host of young-guns have already proved the point with Cristian Weir and Jordan Missig the latest to rocket up through the USF Pro (formerly Road to Indy) ladder. Canada’s own Austin Riley is another superstar in the making. Having won FEL’s Radical Cup Canada in 2021, Austin became the 2022 Blue Marble Radical Cup North America Outright Champion,

earning him a factory supported drive in the Hagerty Radical Cup United Kingdom at Silverstone later this month. For 2023 Austin has stepped up from Pro 1340 (green highlights) to the more powerful Pro 1500 class (red). Both use Radical’s highly popular SR3 chassis with different capacity engines. The third class, Platinum (yellow), will feature one of the fastest cars of the weekend, the 425 bhp, 380lb-ft turbocharged Radical SR10. Four drivers are representing Canada across this high speed, high horsepower field, rekindling the Can-Am days of old.
