It is upbeat, full of power and love reminding us to make the most of each day!

Bruce grew up in Mooresville, North Carolina, deeply embedded in the Church.

His father was a preacher, and his mother sang. It was a childhood of tent meetings, revivals, prayer meetings and TV/Radio shows. They went anywhere to worship God, something that he continues doing today.

A trip to a nearby Woolworth’s with his parents resulted in the purchase of an $8 dollar guitar that plunged the then eight year old Hedrick to learn to play it by ear. At the age of nine, God stepped into the music life when Bruce’s mother beckoned him to the piano to learn from her. She told me, “Son, it doesn’t matter if you are singing or playing for one person or a hundred people;” recalled Hedrick, “you sing and play with all your heart. They will be blessed, and God will bless you.”

The passing of his beloved mom at the young age of thirteen set life in a different direction, and the love of another powerful woman of God would put it back on path in 2007. Bruce’s wife, Lyndra got him to attend a service at the church where he heard a sermon on God’s Grace which changed his life forever.

He started visiting nursing homes, assistant living centers, hospice, hospitals, churches, events, and social events to sing.

As a singer and song writer, Hedrick shares his diverse and upbeat music in large and intimate settings, which allows for interaction with the audience. The goal is to have every person participating to the best of their ability while having fun and serving the Lord!

Junior Appalachian Musicians is a non-profit and the parent organization for 50+ after school programs for children in grades 4 – 8. JAM provides communities with the tools and support they need to teach children to play and dance to traditional old time and bluegrass music. JAM introduces music through small group instruction on instruments common to the Appalachian region, such as fiddle, banjo, and guitar. Each JAM program is individually operated and funded. The JAM program model provides children with opportunities to not only learn traditional music, but to also perform in small and large groups.

Field trips, visiting artists and an introduction to the rich history of music unique to each local community further supplement program offerings. Each JAM program is encouraged to foster musical traditions by teaching local styles of traditional mountain music and dance to children. Instructors are also encouraged to teach students to learn music by ear, as to preserve oral traditions as much as possible.

Realizing the need to preserve a vital aspect of mountain culture as well as the need for positive activities to underserved youth, Helen White, then a guidance counselor at Sparta Elementary School, founded the first JAM program in Alleghany County, NC in the spring of 2006. In 2007, the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation provided funding to allow the development of a regional infrastructure. The Dana Foundation, Virginia Commission for Arts, the Virginia

Foundation for Humanities, the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Harris and Frances Block Foundation and the Tides Foundation have provided funding for materials development.

“Junior Appalachian Musicians” was incorporated in 2008 as a non-profit 501(c)3 tax exempt corporation to promote a shared vision of JAM and to provide an umbrella through which to offer resources, training materials and activities to benefit programs individually and collectively. Currently in nearly 30 locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, JAM affiliates are providing access to the joy of music to thousands of youths while instilling renewed interest and pride in their heritage.

They’re not going to offer the job to someone to protect their feelings. No, they’ll hire whoever is excellent and the top choice for the job, PERIOD. We live in the delusion that somehow excellence will just “kick in” When we won’t even bother to do the dishes or vacuum the floor when needed. Believe it or not, this is all connected. When you live your entire life striving for excellence in ALL things, it becomes a habit. You just do it. Daniel lived his life with excellence. The book of Daniel tells us that he even had a “SPIRIT” of excellence. He lived it, acted it, walked it, talked it, dreamed it and operated in it. In the end the King promoted him to a high ruler. The king even gave him great gifts and lands. This was not by accident. What if Daniel just said “eh, that’s close enough” in all aspects of his life and then expected excellence to just show up when he was called upon to interpret a dream? I am guessing he would never even got that far. My point is this, you can’t expect great things to happen in the places of your life that you care the most about when you ignore other aspects of your life. And “I don’t FEEL like it” IS NO EXCUSE. If you live your life with the habit of excellence, your “feel like it” will change.

Believe it or not, when something isn’t right or finished or as close to perfect as possible, it will drive you crazy. You will FEEL like getting it done. A habitual life of excellence will make you WANT everything to be as great as possible. Is this OCD?? NOPE!! This is scripture!

Col 3:23 tells us that we should do EVERYTHING with excellence as if we are doing it for GOD himself. Now, think about that for a second. What if you knew that GOD himself was watching all we do? What if he was seeing our shortcuts? Would we look at GOD and say “eh, that’s close enough?” Would we stand in the throne room of heaven and say, “I don’t feel like doing that right now?” I don’t think we would. This is my entire point….You want to be great at some point in your life? You want to excel at something? Then you better start paying attention to every detail of everything else. Mediocre and average will show up when we least expect it. But, if you live your private life with excellence and do those things as if you're doing them for GOD himself, he will honor you publicly for your commitment.

I too struggle with this. It is my personal desire that every aspect of my life be lived with excellence and that I can control my emotions to do what is needed. I am not there, but even as I write this I am inspired to do better. It is my hope that you are also inspired.

Start small and I promise, it will grow from there. GOD deserves our very very best!

Isaiah 117 House provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting foster care placement. In 2014, Ronda and Corey Paulson went through Path Training to become foster parents, attending a class at a DCS office.

During that class, they were informed that when children are removed from their homes, they often must come to the DCS office and wait for placement. It is hard to imagine a scared child sitting in such a sterile, cold environment waiting to learn their fate. That moment of realization for Ronda was the opening for God to place the Isaiah 117 house on her heart.

Fast-forward to November 5, 2015, Ronda received a call from a County DCS office. Within an hour, they were picking up a foster son. The boy was dirty, in clothes that were too small, and literally had nothing in the world. The need for the Isaiah 117 house was coming to light…What if there was a home where children could go when they are removed? What if there was a safe place with friendly, loving volunteers? What if there was an environment with clean clothes, bath toys, healthy snacks, comfy beds, and toys? What if instead of cubicles, the traumatized child could see smiles, books, and snuggly blankets?

Isaiah 1:17 says, "defend the cause of the fatherless." The house is the calling, a home with a girl’s bedroom, a boy’s bedroom, fully stocked bathroom, playroom, nursery, etc. A home with a team of volunteers, 2 at a time, on call to greet "the least of these" when they need love most. A home always ready!

Isaiah 117 House is now available in Tennessee, Indiana, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Ohio, Virginia and growing around the United States. Providing a comforting home where these children can be brought to wait in a safe, friendly place with loving volunteers while DCS staff do the necessary paperwork and identify good foster placement.

When reaching out to donate and get involved, the first thing learned is the main goal is to lavishing love on the kids! Every aspect of Isaiah 117 House is designed to send a strong message to a child, who has just been removed from their home, that they are not alone and that they are loved! What do they mean by LAVISHING LOVING - Many of these children arrive at the red door of the Isaiah 117 House with nothing. So, they don’t just offer a bath, they offer an Elmo bubble bath with bath toys and a big warm fluffy white towel to dry off with. It’s not just a pair of pajamas, it’s at least 2 brand new pairs of pajamas. For the teenage boy needing a pair of shoes, it is the brand-new pair of Nikes offered. Just as God lavishly loves on us, they answer the call to lavishly love on others.

Can you imagine a better place to give? It is simply something you want to be involved with all year!

10 TIPS FOR UNBLOCKING YOUR WRITER’S BLOCK

01 - Double Tracking. Take one of your existing tracks you have already recorded and challenge yourself to sing a completely different melody over it. I do this quite often.

This not only opens you up to the possibility of not settling with the 1st melody you come up with every time, it also gives you a two for one use of your track. You don’t have to pay the band to come back to record your new song.

02 - Change the vibe. Invite a co-writer to the session who plays in a style you are not accustomed to. This helps open your mind to new ways of playing and phrasing, both of which are important, if you don’t want all your songs to sound alike.

03 - Google. Google funny bumper stickers or t-shirts and see if any of them inspire thoughts to twist a common phrase into something interesting, provided that phrase is not already a hit song by someone else.

04 - Alter Tempo. Take the chords of a song you have already written and play them slower, twice as fast, or even backwards. You’ll be surprised how some songs sound completely different at different speeds.

05 - Netflix and chow. Grab a bag of baked pretzels, Watch an episode of your favorite tv show or movie and force yourself to pick out one line from any of the characters to build a song around, even if you have to slightly change the line. This exercise helps to keep your ears always alert for the next great idea to fall out of the sky.

06 - Merry Valenweenmas. Pick a holiday and write its theme song. They all come around every year and most don’t have specific songs that are their theme songs yet, other than Christmas of course. There are tons of movies and tv episodes that each of these holidays headline every year, would it hurt your feelings if they used your song?

07 - Title Twist. One of my favorite things to do is take a negative title and make it positive, or vice versa. For instance if you had a simple title called “I’m leavin”, what if the hook was “I’m leaving…wanna come”? Or the title “Time of my life” where the hook is “He’s having the Time of my life.” because your ex is now with him. It flexes your creative muscles not to give the song idea away in the title.

08 - Road trip. Sometimes a simple change of scenery is all you need to get the wheels turning. Who wouldn’t be inspired to write a vacation song sitting under an umbrella shaded beach chair, staring at the ocean.

09 - Jingle all the way. No, I don’t mean Santa Claus. Everybody knows somebody that owns a mom and pop company of some sort, whether it be a restaurant, furniture store, heating and cooling company, etc. Write a jingle for them. Even if you show it to them afterwards and they are not interested, this is great practice for the next company who may say yes. Sometimes they don’t even know they need one for their website until you show them what you have created. The cool thing is, you can use the same music and just change the words for a million different companies until one says yes.

10 - Rhyming Sites. Last but not least, there are plenty of sites that can help you find rhymes if you're stuck and tired of using the same ones over and over. Rhymezone may be the most popular, I try to stay away from help sites as much as I can and force myself to find it on my own, however I’m not too stubborn to surrender for the songs sake if I feel like I’m not doing it justice. I want to say at least one thing in a song that I have never said before. That gets a bit tougher after you’ve written several thousand for some odd reason:) *So, in summary, Change your setting, change your co-writers, change your tempo, change your angle, change your genre, change your search engine, and if that doesn’t work change your socks. However, if the song becomes a hit………….wear the same socks to every session for the rest of your life.

What's Your Give?

Giving is usually connected with money, materials, and properties.

There are some more things we can give to others such as, love, compassion, mercy, tender care, thanks, forgiveness, time, and fellowship. We can invest our talents and knowledge on others. “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38).

The basic meaning of give in English is to offer something to someone without expecting any returns. There are three kinds of giving mentioned in Old Testament: Tithe, First Fruits, and Alms. The New Testament talks about immeasurable giving, free giving and sacrificial giving.

The books have been written, the sermons preached and the unmeasurable hours of instruction to build a better world of giving and caring as they go hand in hand. We must give to care and care to give! It is as simple as giving a smile in the most unassuming times of life. It also goes without any argument that what you give, you will receive in greater reward. You hold the whole world in your hands to give to all that you encounter. Open your heart and hands, Be a Giver!

ALWAYS BE A GIVER

It's better to give than to receive. That is a principle to live by. Some do, some don't. Those that do, reap benefits that make life more meaningful. Those that don't, usually suffer the consequences brought on by selfishness. Being a giver brings prosperity. Not being a giver brings poverty. Being a giver of your time, talent, friendship, and finances, will cause you to have more time, talent, friends and bring increase in your finances. The Bible is full of instruction about giving. There are many wonderful testimonies in the Bible of people who have been blessed because of their willingness to be givers.

The Bible teaches us that offerings are an important part of worship. We should never be offended or intimidated by the offering plate. It's an opportunity to sow our finances into the Kingdom of God so the Gospel can be sent around the world. When we do that, God has a miraculous way of multiplying our giving back to us. We don't "give to get", but when we sow, we do reap a harvest.

A few decades ago, the revelation of sowing and reaping began to be taught to the church. Teachers like Oral Roberts and others began to teach the importance of sowing and expecting a harvest. Farmers have always known this. If you sow corn, you reap corn. If you sow wheat, you reap wheat. When you sow a seed, it multiplies. One seed produces several plants and more fruit. The New Testament teaches us to expect multiplication of our financial seed sown as well.

The principles of giving apply to those of us who are in Christian Country Music. To say that lack of money is what keeps most artists from having success in ministry, is an understatement. The cost of touring and recording is immense and causes great stress for most artists. It's important to keep giving, even when you think you can't afford to. If you think you can't afford to keep tithing and giving, I say you can't afford not to tithe and give.

As believers we should be operating in God's economic system and not the economic system of the world. God's economy works differently than the economy of the world. I'm not an expert in teaching this however there is a lot of good Biblical teaching on this subject available. I would highly recommend a new book by my friend, Evangelist, and fellow Christian Country Singer/songwriter Dr. James Payne. It's entitled, Seedemonics: The Financial Foundation for the Kingdom of God. It's available on Amazon both hardback and Kindle. It's the best I've read on this subject.

Never stop giving. Giving will make your life more meaningful and will cause you to prosper financially. However, we don't keep our finances for ourselves, we keep giving. God wants us to be a conduit He can pour money through so the Gospel can be preached around the world. If we do that, we won't have to worry about our own financial needs. We will be blessed abundantly and will be able to increase our ministry and outreach.

Celebrate Recovery started in 1991 at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California. At that time, the church was meeting at a high school gymnasium. John Baker wrote Pastor Rick Warren the “now-famous, concise, 13-page, single-spaced” letter outlining the vision God had given John for Celebrate Recovery. After reading John’s letter, Pastor Rick said, “Great, John — go do it!”

The first night 43 people attended, and Celebrate Recovery was born. Beginning with only four Open Share Groups — Men’s and Women’s Chemical Dependency and Men’s and Women’s Codependency — the ministry has grown to over 14 groups today. Over 27,000 people have gone through the program at Saddleback Church. Many of them are now serving in Celebrate Recovery and the Church. Celebrate Recovery is the number one outreach ministry at Saddleback Church, with over 70 percent of its members now coming from outside the church.

SONG TRIPP'IN TENNESSEE ROAD TRIP TO HATCH PRINT SHOW William Hatch ran a print shop in Prescott, Wisconsin, where his two sons, Charles, and Herbert, grew up learning the craft of letterpress printing. In 1875, William Hatch moved his family to Nashville where, in 1879 brothers Charles and Herbert Hatch open HATCH SHOW PRINT. From the start, the first job, a handbill announcing the appearance of Rev. Henry Ward Beecher (brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe), the iconic look was established. Simple, effortless balance of type size and style… the historical look of American Southern Culture. The golden age of Hatch Show Print was from the mid-1920s through the 1950s. The shop’s home from 1925 to 1992 was directly behind the Ryman Auditorium, where in addition to creating posters for

for artists such as Cab Calloway, Bessie Smith, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong. From 1992 through 2013, Hatch Show Print could be found on lower Broadway. Shop ownership changed hands over the years from Bill Denny (fittingly enough, son of Grand Ole Opry General Manager Jim Denny) to Gaylord Entertainment, and others to keep the presses running. Gaylord Entertainment was directly responsible for the generous donation of Hatch Show Print to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 1992. Eventually, the space on Broadway didn’t afford the room that the shop needed. Fortunately, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum embarked on an expansion project that included a new home for Hatch Show Print, at 224 Rep. John Lewis Way South, Nashville.

Facts to Know About Veterans Day November 11th

Veterans Day is a well-known American holiday, but there are also a few misconceptions about it — like how it’s spelled or whom exactly it celebrates. To clear some of that up, here are the important facts you should know.

Veterans Day does NOT have an apostrophe.

A lot of people think it’s “Veteran’s Day” or “Veterans’ Day,” but they’re wrong. The holiday is not a day that “belongs” to one veteran or multiple veterans, which is what an apostrophe implies. It’s a day for honoring all veterans — so no apostrophe needed.

Veterans Day is NOT the Same as Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a time to remember those who gave their lives for our country, particularly in battle or from wounds they suffered in battle. Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it’s largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices.

Originally set to commemorate the end of World War I. World War I officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919.

However, the fighting ended about seven months before that when the Allies and Germany put into effect an armistice on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

For that reason, Nov. 11, 1918, was largely considered the end of “the war to end all wars” and dubbed Armistice Day. In 1926, Congress officially recognized it as the end of the war, and in 1938, it became an official holiday, primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War I. But then World War II and the Korean War happened, so on June 1, 1954, at the urging of veterans service organizations, Congress amended the commemoration yet again by changing the word “armistice” to “veterans” so the day would honor American veterans of all.

OUR COUNTRY

What is the highest honor our country can give a person? To a soldier, that would be the Congressional Medal of Honor. A civilian might receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom or the Congressional Gold Medal. But, in my mind the most incredible gift the United States can give to anyone is the gift we can bestow on someone who is not from the United States. That is the gift of Honorary US Citizenship.

Only 8 individuals have ever been so honored in the history of our country. An act of Congress is required to bestow an Honorary Citizenship to an individual. It confers no special rights or obligations and the honoree does not gain any travel or immigration benefits.

This is purely a symbolic act. But, what an amazing symbol and honor.

The first time Honorary Citizenship was granted was in 1963 when Winston Churchill was granted citizenship by John Kennedy. This set the bar high as Winston Churchill was an amazing war time leader, Prime Minister, orator, and a Pulitzer Prize winner for literature. Our other honorary citizens are Marquis de Lafayette, Mother Teresa, Hannah Callowhill Penn, William Penn, Casimir Pulaski, Raoul Wallenberg and our most recipient, Bernardo De Galvez. Some of these are well known names to us all. We all know of Mother Teresa, from present day North Macedonia, and her example of selflessness, devotion to God, and her good works. She was canonized as a Saint in 2016. The Marquis de Lafayette, from France, is widely known for his support of the American Revolution and his invaluable aid to our Army and country. History buffs will recognize the Penns, from England, that founded the colony that became Pennsylvania. However, Pulaski, Wallenberg and Galvez are slightly more obscure. Casimir Pulaski’s service to the United States occurred during the Revolutionary War. He was a Polish Officer whose contribution lay with the development of our calvary. He actually wrote the book for our soldiers on how to conduct horseback operations. During the Battle of Brandywine, he led the calvary charge that saved George Washington’s life. October 11th each year is Pulaski Day in the US. Please celebrate responsibly!

Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish businessman before World War II started. During the War he was sent to the Swedish Embassy in Hungary. His original job was to issue 650 passports to Hungarian Jews to get them out of the country to safety. Once there, he knew that would not be enough and began doing more to save as many people as possible. He was able to protect thousands before being caught. When the Jews were forced marched to the border with Austria, he followed in his car doing all he could to provide food and water as well as providing more documents, in defiance of the Nazis. Wallenberg was arrested by the Soviets in Budapest as a spy when the Soviets occupied that city. The United States made him an Honorary Citizen in 1981 due to the rumors that he was still alive in a prison somewhere in Russia. It was hoped that this would force the Russians to either release him or provide information about him. They have claimed that he died in 1947.

His fate is unknown. Bernardo De Galvez was the Spanish Governor of Louisiana during the American Revolution.

He smuggled important supplies to the Americans through his territory, primarily through the port city of New Orleans. He also fought on his own as an enemy of the British. He and his army of 7,500 men won several battles in Louisiana. He later became a general in the US Army and took Mobile and Pensacola from the British leaving them with no port in the Gulf of Mexico. Yet another foreign soldier who helped us gain Independence. You may recognize the Galvez in the name of Galveston, Texas.

Only Winston Churchill and Mother Teresa were declared Honorary Citizens during their lifetimes. Bernardo De Galvez was the most recent to receive the honor in 2014.

The standard for this incredible gift is high, as it should be, and few are deemed worthy.

This gift of Honorary United States Citizenship represents the ultimate recognition from our country to a citizen of another country of a worthy life of service well lived.

GODLY WOMAN by: KristeNicole As we enter this season of giving, I recall all the givers I have personally known in my lifetime. Through the years I’ve been told amazing accounts of churches, organizations, communities, and famous people who have shown up and sprang into action, giving unselfishly in tragic times of need. Not only have they given financially, but in service as “boots on the ground” serving hot meals, organizing, and giving benefit concerts. They have been found distributing food, clothes, and toy donations while helping to rebuild homes and communities. When we become believers, we are no longer our own. We have made a conscious decision to be His which means our time, talents, and money are no longer our own but His. 2 Corinthians 5:18 says, “Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation...”

Jesus did not die for you just so you could miss Hell and go to Heaven one day... He died for you so that you would live and do something for Him. That includes giving to others. When God does something for you or in you it is because He wants to do something through you. It is not a sin to receive from others or to have nice things. If God gives to you, be blessed. However, don’t stop there. Galatians: 6:7-8 says “A man reaps what he sows, Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

Giving here is how we lay up treasure in Heaven. We will reap for eternity what we have sown in our time here on earth.

We are created in God’s image and God created us to be givers.

“For God so loved the world that He gave…” John 3:16 The good life isn’t what today’s society paints for us in having a ton of “stuff”. The truly good life is being able to give to and bless others.

Luke 12:48 says, “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” You don’t get any credit in Heaven for what you have and accumulate here on earth. All you get credit for in Heaven is what you give here on earth. If you want to be rich there, you’ve got to take the time and learn how to give here. The more God does for you, the more He entrusts to you, the more He expects from you. It’s not just a sin to do what you shouldn’t do; it’s also a sin not to do what you should do. So, is it possible to bless God in return for all that He has done for and given to us? Matthew 25:35-40 says, “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You as a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me" When you give to people that He loves and died for – everybody, God will feel loved by you. Are you keeping what God intended for you to give? What are you doing, sacrificing, giving to others with what you’ve been given?

What can you add to your family, social groups, communities, neighborhoods, churches, etc.?

We are called to be God driven and “others centered” givers. Be generous with your energy, time, money.

Build your legacy by being a pipe and not a pot. Turn someone’s day, or even their life upside down for His glory and His Kingdom.

Annually, the JOSIE MUSIC AWARDS, chooses a charity to benefit as part of the celebration of the events and people around the Josie Music Awards and Festival.

This year, the 8th Annual Event, the chosen charity was the St. Jude Children Research Hospital. The exclusive designed teddy bears available for purchase served in dual capacity. The . purchase funds will be donated to the research of St. Jude Children's Hospital and the huggable teddy bears will go to children at St. Jude.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened its doors on February 4, 1962, based on the dream of Danny Thomas that "no child should die in the dawn of life." Since then incredible strides in childhood cancer research have been accomplished to help improve the survival rate of childhood cancer from 20% to 80%. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all they should worry about is helping their child live.
