Artist Spotlight

About 15 miles from Knoxville, Tennessee sits Union County often referred to as the Cradle of Country Music, home to legendary and popular musicians such as Chet Atkins, Roy Acuff, Kenny Chesney, and the Power Source Christian Country Top 40 chart topper…KristeNicole. Growing up in beautiful East Tennessee, KristeNicole started her music journey at a young age and yet the desire faded as she grew up with just a spark on occasion reminding her of that passion. As an adult, music found its way back during a time of personal growth and healing. A time in which KristeNicole also found songwriter Cooter Daniels who guided and taught the craft that had forever burned in her heart. Music brought healing to KristeNicole, with the gift realized she accepted the challenge to share the message and has never looked back. In 2021, the first original single “In God’s Time,” was released, followed by a Christmas song “That Was The Night.” Then came “Godly Woman,” with a message of encouragement and empowerment that made it the 2022 Christian Country Song of the Year. The song title launched a ministry that changes lives on a daily basis and opened the door for KristeNicole to share that empowering message each month in Power Source Magazine. With a unique blend of modern and traditional sound, KristeNicole could make singing the telephone book a hit. It is the heart that you hear in every note, her heart and God’s heart blended to touch your heart. The latest single release, “God Won’t Let You Down,” hit the airwaves with divine timing - a needed word for today! Working up the Power Source Christian Country Top 40 from the release date, it was destined to top the chart and that is exactly where it went...ALL THE WAY TO NUMBER ONE!

S.M.A.R.T. GOALS DEFINED Specific

Specific goals have a clear desired outcome No matter what it is, the goal should be clearly articulated. Define what will be accomplished and the actions to be taken to accomplish the goal. WRITE IT DOWN!

Measurable

You need to have numbers with your goals. So that you can prioritize, organize and track the progress. Define how you will measure the progress. Remember to take a moment to learn from all steps. WRITE IT DOWN!

Achievable

Goals need to be realistic or you are setting up for frustration and failure. Setting big goals is a good, but you may want to break it down to smaller step by step goals. The results will be rewarding as you can celebrate the steps one by one. Be real with your ability to acheive the goal set. WRITE IT DOWN!

Relevant

Goals should be aligned with the mission of your calling, job, task or message. Don’t line up a goal just to have something to do in the year. Defining the benefits or impact of reaching the goal will help to determine relevancy, WRITE IT DOWN!

Time-Bound

Goals must have a timeline, must have a start and finish. A goal without a deadline doesn’t do much. The finish line or deadline does not represent all work is done or perfection in life, it simply mean that you can review the success and impact in the foward progress of setting new goals. WRITE IT DOWN!

SMART is an effective tool that provides the clarity, focus and motivation you need to achieve your goals. It can also improve your ability to reach them by encouraging you to define your objectives and set a completion date. SMART goals are also easy to use by anyone, anywhere. SMART is a well-established tool that you can use to plan and achieve your goals. While there are a number of interpretations of the acronym’s meaning, the most common one is represented above. When you use SMART, you can create clear, attainable and meaningful goals, and develop the motivation, action plan, and support needed to achieve them.

It is the unexpected, unique connections that we experience in life that lead us to say, “it's a God-thing.” Back in June 2022 in Pigeon Forge, TN, we met the Season 18 winner of The Voice… Todd Tilghman. To be specific, it was the exact day that TenFiftySeven Media acquired this publication, therefore it was only fitting that our first published Artist Spotlight in Power Source Magazine September 2022 was Todd Tilghman. That month is something spectacular for Todd as well, he debuted at The Grand Ole Opry, introduced by country music superstar and friend Blake Shelton. One of two songs performed that historic night, “Home Wasn’t Built In A Day,” landed on the Power Source Christian Country Top 40 chart and inspired us to know the Man behind the Music! Who is this incredibly talented man that when you meet him feels like a lifetime friend or family member. The song written by Todd Tilghman, Kelli Johnson and Lance Carpenter gives you a summary of the love story and life behind the artist.

12

Todd hails from Mississippi, sharing often about a childhood full of love and faith. There is a sweet sound in his voice when he speaks of his parents. His life completely changed during his teen years when he met the woman who would become his wife, Brooke. Shortly after obtaining a driver’s license, Todd asked Brooke out on a date, he was hooked instantly but it would take a few years for her to feel the forever. At 20 and 18 respectively, they married. “Home (it) wasn't built in a day, Didn’t happen overnight, Took a lot of ups and downs, A Lot of wrongs and rights, You did a lot of hanging on, when You wanted to let go Took a lot of years , and tears and prayers but now we know, that home wasn’t built in a day”

Just as the words in the song state, there is so much that occurs in the build of a life and the dedication that the Tilghmans share to faith and family inspires all who know them. The song takes you from the young couple in a garage apartment to the family of ten we know today…and while it wasn’t built in a day, it is clear they have made the most of every single day. In 2000, the couple welcomed their firstborn son followed by a second son a few years later and a third son a couple years after that. The family of five was thriving, Brooke as a stay at home Mom with three boys and Todd working in ministry. Around the time of their third child being about 3 years old, Brooke said she wanted to put action to their discussion of adoption. Asked often about why they wanted to adopt,

13

Todd explains that it was just a natural, felt right thing for both of them. As is the case with many couples, the process of adoption is very emotionally and financially taxing. For Todd and Brooke it also included lots of shut doors, lost opportunities. “We ran into issues, things didn’t work out until we started pursuing South Korea, in my heart I knew Korea was the place,” reflected Tilghman. It was expected to take up to two years for a match, however, the first girl came in just four months. Ten years after their first child, the Tilghman family had grown to three boys and a girl when a call came in. The call announced that their new baby girl had a biological sister open for adoption. It was an instant yes and the family grew again. The hands were full, but the hearts were still open welcoming two more sons and another daughter following those adoptions. Their youngest daughter shares a birthday with their oldest son…sixteen years apart. The party of ten hosts five boys and three girls. That is the Tilghman home, not built in a day and adding brick by brick ever since. In 2020, the world met the whole clan thanks to NBC’s The Voice as Todd Tilghman smiled and sang his way to the historic win of season 18. The first ever remote season as the global pandemic interrupted the flow of live television. Now just four years later, we catch up with Todd about his music, life and the incredible new song being released this month.

14

The holiday season is hectic for everyone, for those in this industry it is a balancing act that rivals a circus performance. At the beginning of December, Tilgman performed in Pigeon Forge where we got to see the first live performance of the song being released this month. We will talk about that later on, what we observed that night was an approachable artist to everyone attending. Todd engaged with the audience as a whole from the stage and also individually at the merchandise table giving all the same experience of interacting with an old friend or family member. The biggest request that evening was to purchase the Todd & Brooke Tilghman book, “Every Little Win,” of which was sold out. We agree it is a must read and you can learn more about it in this issue’s On The Road Reads.

About a week later, we chatted over the phone as Todd carried out some errands with two of his daughters. Not to diminish the historical win of a 40-something pastor on the hit show, The Voice, it is however the man behind it all that we want to dive into and he welcomed us to talk about anything.

15

Todd shared that life is indeed hectic but peaceful and exciting all at the same time. Since bring on the show, The Voice, the family has relocated from Mississippi to outside of Nashville. The change has brought the blessing to pursue music full time. Congratulating Todd and Brooke on their recent 25th wedding anniversary, Tilghman shared that they make intentional time for each other. Might be dinner or just a drive to get a loaf of bread, it is intentional. That is also as they do for their children, all eight of them. They make time for each of their children, for example on this particular day, two of Tilghman’s daughters are accompanying him on the errands. Brooke has a nightly tradition with the children of which they will individually march to her at bedtime for hands on prayer. There is a significant change to the tone of voice as Todd speaks of Brooke. At that recent show he shared stories with the audience, one in which he stated the reason for having such a big family. “I married up y'all, like big time,” said Tilghman, “I thought better pack her full of kids so she doesn’t have time to leave me.” Beyond the laughter you feel the love, he continued on the call sharing that she is the driving force behind it all, that most don’t realize she has all the great big ideas. It is hard to imagine a person more approachable than Todd but it is in fact Brooke that is a magnet for people. There is a comfort in her presence, and it was confirmed that everyone and anyone will speak to her. Todd is proud of all things Brooke, and admires her openness. In asking what is one thing that no one would imagine about her, Todd replied, “she watches that show Sister Wives, repeatedly, I mean I get it once or twice but over and over,” he continued with laughter. We wanted to know what is something no one would imagine about Todd. After much thought, he shared that cooking is a major love and currently he is learning to cook Korean to honor the heritage of his two oldest daughters. There is another amazing tradition in the Tilghman household, for each child’s birthday they choose the meal they want prepared at home. This is a meal in addition to an outing and gifts, it is the time they come together as a family and the birthday girl/boy gets to pick the meal. “One of my sons recently picked Hamburger Helper,” shared Todd, “ it doesn’t have to be fancy, just whatever they want.” Asking the girls over the phone, they replied with recent Korean dishes learned by their Dad and adding many other options, it became clear that Todd is a great cook and the kids have a hard time picking a favorite. Fun fact about Todd Tilghman: Did you know that his first job was being Santa Claus? That is correct, at the young age of 16 years old, Todd was Santa at the mall. Being the holiday season, Todd shared some of the family traditions which includes the reading of “Room For A Little One” and the Birth of Jesus from the Bible.

16

As he continued to share and the girls interjected things, it was evident that this family had learned that together they are greater than anything in life. Todd and Brooke have taught them the value of family, faith, and unconditional love. Often he has stated that his favorite part of parenting is watching his children explore, develop, and get better at their passions. That song, performed in closing at his debut on the Grand Ole Opry, is a true testament to the story of this family, the continuing love story. The new song about to be released is a true motivation to every parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, teacher, or person with a child in their life. Written with two songwriting friends, it is profoundly just what to expect from a conversation with Todd or Brooke about raising a child. We cannot talk about this song without sharing about the songwriting process. For this session is was a room with Todd, Michael Farren, and Lance Carpenter, three songwriters having a conversation. Todd goes into songwriting with a goofy title approach, a sort of ice breaker for himself. A list with titles that remind you of Ray Stevens songs. One of those titles is Gas Station Chicken, penned by Tilghman about the fried chicken at the questionably looking gas stations. So on that particular songwriting day, they were having a conversation about the crazy lifestyles of parents. From tripping over legos…literally that was the topic as Todd was asked if he wanted to chase the title, Tripping Over Legos. The rest will go down in music history as the song PB&J was penned, birthed and we all will be forever grateful for that conversation. The single release of PB&J is scheduled for January 26th. The song is reviewed in this publication along with the song video. One of the most inspirational and relatable songs of this past decade, PB&J will remind you of times past, make you laugh, build you up and have you singing along the very first time you hear it. In the last part of our chat with Todd Tilghman, it was time to say Thank You on behalf of us all for writing, recording, and sharing PB&J. Most of all to say how proud we are that Todd has never failed to be authentic and not moved by the world. Sharing the message through music comes in all shapes and tempos, it is an honor to participate with an artist who makes his music a God Thing no matter the tempo!

GODLY WOMAN

YESTERDAY TODAY & FOREVER KRISTENICOLE

In 2016 for the celebration of the 50th Annual CMA Award Show, CMA created the biggest music video in country music history. “Forever Country” is one of my favorite mashups featuring 30 country music award winning artists such as Alabama, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Brett Eldredge, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Lady A, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Ronnie Milsap, Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley, & Dolly Parton. This song is a combination of previous country hits: John Denver’s 1971 “Take Me Home Country Road”, Willie Nelson’s 1979 “On the Road Again”, and Dolly Parton’s 1973 “I Will Always Love You”. In this video country music stars can be seen singing, walking, and looking out across landscapes, fields, farms, backroads, railroad tracks, etc. expressing country music in a then, now, and forever kind of feel. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Yesterday: It is crucial that Jesus be the same yesterday as He is today. Yesterday is when Jesus showed us in history what He is really like. Today: It is crucial that Jesus be the same today as He was yesterday. Today is when we have fellowship with Him. We relate to Him as the person we know by reading about His life and work of yesterday

20

Tomorrow: It is crucial that Jesus be the same tomorrow as He was yesterday and today. All our hope for everlasting joy is in relating to Him, not just His gifts. Jesus’ love, righteousness, wisdom, power are the same and not bound by limitations of man. Therefore, He is never surprised by our seasons or circumstances. You may be in the post-Christmas swirl of life, or you may be creating your vision for this brand-new year, but it is so important for us to be a people with a vision. That vision should include a constant. That’s Jesus. Proverbs 28:19 reminds us, “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” The new year is a perfect time to ask God for a new vision or revelation. Asking the Heavenly Father to give us a vision will help us to stay focused on what really matters. Pursuing the vision that He gives us is a great place to start. There are countless accounts in the Bible of visions and the way God used them. Joseph is a great example of staying strong by focusing on his vision through a horrible situation. What are you going through right now that could use some hope? Our Heavenly Father can fill that place in your heart and restore your vision of living for Him. When God puts a dream in your heart, you can guarantee He has a purpose for it. It’s at that point we can step into the abundant life for which He created us. He has a plan and a purpose for everything we go through. It’s important for us to grow through those things well and we do that with a Christ centered vision. If God is giving you a vision for something, then He will give you the opportunities to go get it. Sometimes that looks like hard work, but don’t be afraid to give it all you’ve got. That’s what you were made for! Yes, it can be scary. God doesn’t give us visions in our hearts and our heads to just stay there! So don’t be afraid of what is stirring in your heart. The Heavenly Father wants you to run with a mission of purpose for His Kingdom. He knows it is the most thrilling and abundant life you’ll ever sign up for. It’s not because the Father thinks the mission will make you good, it’s because He knows it’s for your good. He wants your obedience in order that you can experience His abundance. We can only access that kind of life by trusting in the one who is the same yesterday, today, & forever. His name is Jesus!

22

The years are clicking by quickly. At my age it’s amazing how fast they pass. Back in the 80’s the 2000’s were so futuristic it seemed like science fiction. Many were saying Jesus would return before we got into the next century. But life goes on and in a blink it’s 2024! We are making plans and setting goals for the new year. Some things change and some will stay the same. The main thing that will remain the same for us as Christian Country artists and musicians, is our message. New year, same message. This is our message. God loves us unconditionally. Jesus died for us and the Holy Spirit indwells us as believers. As believers in Jesus, our sins are not held against us. God is not mad at us, he wants us to succeed! Our message is more than a repeat a prayer, presenting Jesus as a free ticket to heaven. It’s not a performance based message. We can do nothing to earn our way to the Father. We simply accept his love and receive his grace as a free gift, and realize we are now part of the Kingdom of God, with all the privileges that come with that. The love of God and the grace of God is the heart of our message. God’s love is the only thing that will draw people to Jesus. Let this be the year of the love of God through our music. Let’s walk in love with each other. Lay aside doctrinal and theological differences and just love each other. In the long run, it’s not about building our ministry. It’s not about having number one songs. It’s about showing people God’s love. “For God so loved the world…”. New year, same message. God loves you…..that’s our message. Cogitate on this….

Are you struggling? Even in your walk of faith? He's not surprised. He Knows exactly where you are, and the good news is that He Loves you too much to leave you there! He is more sovereign than your circumstances and much stronger than your struggle! He knew you needed a Savior a long time ago! I want to tell you about some of the tools that He's been using to work in your life all along. His Word. His People. Circumstances that He allows. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13 I hope to help you with worship. He's given me a message to remind you that He’s building you...in His image... Faithfully...with Love... Grace... and forgiveness! Teaching you how to, more fully, trust Him... It is Him at work winning you over to agree with Him more than you ever have before! It's no small thing! It's God's Math! He Provides! History of Israel

by Rebecca Higgins

How did we get the modern state of Israel? With the events happening in the world as this article is being written in early December, 2023, it is an important question to ask and answer. Let’s take a minute in this new year and explore how the nation of Israel came about with its modern borders. The furthest back we can really go begins with independent Canaanite city-kingdoms. This is where record keeping and “history” for our purposes begins. We are past hunter/gatherers, past the establishment of farming with herding, past early metal working and into about the year 2000 – 1500 BC (or BCE). The general area of what is now Israel contained people known as Canaanites. They spoke a language similar to Hebrew and were a semitic people. They developed small cities during the middle of the Bronze age and during the late Bronze age they were loosely ruled from Egypt. In 1250 BC the Jewish people arrived in the land of Canaan – located in modern day Israel. They were led by Moses having been in the desert for 40 years after leaving Egypt. Prior to their 400 years in Egypt, they had been nomads. This is basically 3,273 years ago. Now begins a 200-year period of settlement where they spread over the land conquered by military, economic, and social means. The first rulers of the land now known as Israel were A theocracy of the twelve tribes of Israel. This period of time began about 1020 BC with King Saul and continued through David, until the death of Soloman when the kingdom divided in two. Approximately 930 BC The Kingdoms of Israel and Judah came into being with the northern part of the area becoming Israel and the southern part becoming Judah. The kingdom of Israel with its capital of Samaria lasted for about 200 years before it was conquered and her people scattered by the Assyrians in 722 BC. Judah, with its capital of Jerusalem, lasted for 350 years before being conquered by the Babylonians. The Babylonian Empire began their control of this area about 586 BC when the temple was destroyed and about 10,000 of the Jews were exiled, but retained their spiritual and emotional attachment to their homeland. The Jews were actually ordered back to their homeland by Cyrus the Great. He was the Zoroastrian leader of the Persian Empire. He claimed the God of Israel visited him and commanded him to re-establish worship of Him in Jerusalem and to rebuild the temple. So, he did and sent the Jewish people back to their lands. During the Persian Empire the Jewish temple in Jerusalem was rebuilt. The entire area becomes a tribute state of Persia. But, this will only last until Alexander the Great. Alexander arrives in 332 BC as the great Greek conqueror but following his death his Greek empire crumbles. One of his generals, Seleucus, inherited the area where Israel is located. Jerusalem changed hands between the two empires left after Alexander died seven times. This Seleucid Empire began in the end of 312 BC but was finally stabilized in 198 BC. Having defeated the Ptolemies, the Seleucids began having trouble with the Romans and began cracking down on the Jews to force them to become more Greek, especially in religion. In 167 BC the Jews rebelled and fought for their freedom. Led by the family of Mattathias, a priest that refused to sacrifice to a pagan god, they became known as the “Maccabees” (the Hebrew word for “hammer”). The state they created is known as the Hasmonean State. After the revolt the Jews were once again rulers of their own land and the kingdom became known as Judea after the son of Mattathias, Judah Maccabee. They enjoyed an 80-year period of independence.

26

Hasmonean rule came to an end in 40 BC, and the land became a province of the Roman Empire. The Romans needed a new name for the area to obscure the fact that it had been a Jewish state. They chose the name “Palaestina”. This name “Palestine” does not appear in the Old or New Testament or the Koran. It may be derived from the Hebrew and Egyptian word “peleshet” which means “rolling or migratory”. It is associated most with the Philistines who have no connection with Arabia but do with Greece and are an Aegean people. Jesus was born during Roman rule. Then the Roman empire split in to Eastern and Western in 313 AD. The Eastern Roman Empire was known as Byzantium. The Byzantine era lasted from about 313 AD to 636 AD, beginning with Emperor Constantine. During the Byzantine era, the Sassanid era took hold for a brief period from 614 AD-628 AD. This era was also known as the Second Persian Empire (Iranian). At this point the Persian religion was still Zoroastrianism. Mohammad was born in 570 AD during the Byzantine hold on the area. Because of the constant fighting between the Byzantines and the Sassanids and other internal problems the expanding Islamic Arab army was able to conquer them in about five years ending their rule in 638. Umayyad & Fatimid Empires came to pass in 638 AD when Jerusalem was conquered by the Arab army. This was four years after the death of Mohammad. Different Caliphates ruled during this 450-year time frame until the time of the Crusades. The Crusades brought the Frankish & Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem into power during the years 1099-1291, until they too fell. Next came the Ayyubid Empire – Arab-Kurdish Empire founded by Saladin who died in 1193. They took control of Jerusalem in 1187. I have allowed overlap with the dates of the Kingdom of Jerusalem to allow for the back-and-forth nature of the Crusades and the fact that Christians would be in one part of the land while Moslems would be in another. From 1260 to 1516 the Mamluks of Egypt, a Military class that ruled Egypt, Syria and the area of Israel, came to power. These Mamluks were primarily pagan Turks that played an important role in the military and political life of a lot of the surrounding states. Mamluk translates to “slave” in Arabic. The Ottoman Empire began in 1517 when the Ottomans conquered the entire area. The Ottoman Empire gradually weakened and then collapsed after WWI and conceded control over the land to the League of Nations. The British Mandate began July 24, 1922, when the League of Nations granted administrative control over what was being called Palestine at the time and the land of Transjordan. The mandate was to create a “national home for the Jewish people”. What actually happened is that 77% of the mandate was turned over to the Arabs to create the country of Jordan. The remaining bit left over became Israel. Modern Israel was founded in 1948. Then all the countries around it tried to destroy it beginning with the Six-Days War. The bits that have been carved out of Israel for the Palestinians were done in 1982 for the West Bank and in September 2005 for Gaza. Of course, entire careers have been spent writing books about just one of these periods of time in the history of Modern Israel. Of note, however, is that since the original Jewish tribes moved into Canaan (i.e. modern day Israel) in 1250 BC and all through the thousands of years of turmoil and warfare that ensued, there has been one constant over its history: a Jewish presence living on the land that is modern day Israel. This is just the smallest overview of who has owned this land and when. Next month our article will be on the Palestinian people: where did they come from and when? Hint: this history will start in the 1960s!

THE CHALLENGE – CLEAN UP, CLEAN OUT AND CONTAIN IT

As we stand here in a brand-New Year, it is a good time to reflect and it is a good time to look forward. It is also a good time for God’s people to take inventory of their walk with the Lord. We should take a very close look at where we are in our relationship with Him. We need to examine ourselves and see where we have been, where we are and where the Lord wants us to be. Recently, while cleaning out, a delayed spring cleaning, I uncovered a few things that took me down memory lane. In the clean out process, there were things kept, things released, and things remembered. In my reference time for writing in this issue, I found myself in Colossians 3:1-4 reading the challenge to God’s people to do a personal clean out. Looking at my life in the light of these verses, the suggestion is to retain some things of our life, to release some things and to remember some things. The moment was so powerful for me that I wanted to share with all of you the challenges contained in this formidable scriptures. God has a plan for your life; He wants certain things for your life; and He has the right to demand these things in your life. Colossians 3: 1-2 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

SOME THINGS MUST BE CLEANED UP Cleaning up I found many things that were of importance, for which could not be thrown away but kept them to use again if desired. In a similar way, Paul in Colossians is telling us that there are a couple of spiritual possessions that we should keep. “Risen with Christ,” is Paul declaring spiritual reality, not a maybe if you are lucky, it is a statement of “Since you are risen.” When Jesus died on the cross, we all died that day as well spiritually to the penalty and power of sin. Because we have died to that, we do not have to worry about being punished for our sins, the price was paid. Paul reminds us that we have also been raised up with Jesus. When He died, we died. When He rose from the dead, we rose from the dead as well! Since we have been raised to a new life in Jesus, we are told to “seek those things which are above”. We are told here to focus our thoughts on heavenly things not earthly things. We are to set our minds on the things of God and on the things that bring glory to Him. We are challenged to live out our lives with genuine spiritual values, and not the values of a fallen world. As we give our attention to these spiritual, heavenly things, we are enabled to live a God-honoring life in this world. Every decision, every activity, every plan, and purpose are to be considered in the light of eternity. As we take on this New Year, may the Lord help us to CLEAN UP opening the room for our truth of who we are and what we have in Jesus!

30

SOME THINGS MUST BE CLEANED OUT In that same clean up, I came across several things that needed to go! There was no room for them, some just simple trash leading me to wonder why I had not previously thrown that crap out. Therefore, some items were given away and others traveled to the dump. While I contained some things in this clean up, others things had to be cleaned out! In our spiritual lives, the same thing is true. Some things must be let go! There are some things that try to attach themselves to our lives that are just plain trash. Those things need to be kicked to the curb! Other things simply don’t have a place in our lives and those things need to be let go. Paul tells us in verse 2 that we are to focus our thoughts on Heavenly things. While we do that, we are to avoid getting caught up in all the things in this world that would swamp our minds and hinder our walk. If we allowed the mind to focus on this world, it would have no time to give itself to the things of God. Paul further describes distractions which come in all shapes and sizes, they cripple us. If any of this is in your life, clean it out! One step we can take is to starve the flesh, refuse to feed the anger, and deny the distraction. Additionally, we can overcome by crowding it out of our life, you know the saying twos company but threes a crowd. Same thing, put those positive things in your world so that the evil has no room, just make it the odd man out! As we walk within this New Year, may the Lord help us to CLEAN OUT the distractions that cripple, leading us on down the path for which HE directs!

SOME THINGS MUST BE CONTAINED Opening a tote, I discovered that many of my grandmother’s items were held within, it was a walk down memory lane for me. There was a hint of sadness but mostly a smile remembering the association of these items to her and the blessing of her life. Colossians 3: 3-4 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Paul reminds us there has been a death, the one of which we died to our sin. The greatest of all victories can be found when we fully embrace that we are crucified with Christ. When we were saved, a new life was given to us with eternal security. Paul closes this part reminding us that this world is not the best, but the reward is Glorious! Right now, everyone of us battles the world, the flesh, and the devil. Each of these enemies does everything they can to hinder us and to cause us to fail. It is by keeping our eyes on that Glory that we will win the worldly battles, experience victory on this side while working toward that moment we eternally bask in the presence of our Savior!

ALL THINGS ARE VICTORIES In our battles and victories within this New Year, may the Lord help us to CONTAIN the promises, the dedication to keeping our eyes toward the glory! · Are there some things in your life that need to be Cleaned Up? Does your focus need to be adjusted? · Are there some things in your life that need to be Cleaned Out? Do you need to get rid of some things that hinder or distract you. · Are there some things in your life that need to be Contained? Do you need to take a trip down memory lane and remind yourself of the promises. Whatever the needs may be today, you should listen to the voice of the Lord and do what He is telling you to do. Let’s seek to make 2023 the best year of our lives for the glory of God!

ON THE ROAD READS

What does a forty-two-year-old, small-town pastor do when he wins one of the most popular singing competitions in the world? Todd Tilghman and his wife, Brooke, share how decades of unrelenting challenges have taught them a joyful mindset of embracing not only winning The Voice but also "every little win" along the way. When Todd Tilghman, pastor and father of eight from Meridian, Mississippi, auditioned for The Voice,he counted it as a win simply to sing in front of an audience other than family and church members. Despite no music or vocal training, he not only made it through the blind audition--with all four celebrity judges vying to coach him--he also won the show's entire eighteenth season. Fans were drawn to Todd's tremendous joy on stage, giving them much-needed inspiration during the hard challenges of a global pandemic. In their first book, Todd and Brooke share how their focus on joy and celebrating every little win has helped them to overcome numerous challenges over their twenty-plus-year marriage. From adopting two children from South Korea to fighting for their newborn son's life to pastoring a small congregation through periods of adversity, Todd and Brooke share the lessons they've learned and the strategies that have moved them from fear to faith to ever-present joy.

With Corey Lee Barker

CATCHING UP WITH CAITLIN QUISENBERRY On September 25, 2023 the 24th season of The Voice premiered on NBC bringing us Caitlin Quisenberry who belted out Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow” to a turned chair by country music legend Reba McIntrye and artist Gwen Stephani. Caitlin joined Reba’s team. Following the competition, Caitlin returned to her new hometown... Nashville, Tennessee to continue the amazing journey of sharing her incredible artistic talents. With excitement for this new year ahead, legendary and award winning songwriter Corey Lee Barker caught up with Caitlin Quisenberry. Corey - How did you decide what song to audition with? Caitlin - Song choice is so important, so I agonized over what to sing! I landed on Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow” because I love her ability to blur genre lines. I think Kacey is a wonderful gate-away into country music, and I like to think of myself as the same… “A kiss of country”. Corey - Where were you when you found out you were gonna be on the show? Caitlin - I was running errands with my mom when The Voice producers called to congratulate me on making it from 50,000 applicants to the top 98 artists. The excitement peaked as I realized I'd be flown to LA for the blind auditions… Then the nerves set in, haha. Corey - How was it working with the legendary Reba McEntire? Caitlin - Working with Reba McEntire surpassed my wildest dreams. She's as sweet in person as on TV, and I absorbed every nugget of knowledge she shared. Having lunch with her in Nashville after the show ended felt like winning it all. Corey - Being a songwriter yourself...would they allow you to sing any of your originals? Caitlin - No, unfortunately, contestants can only perform well-known covers. However, during my audition process, I did showcase some of my original songs, providing a glimpse into my artistry as a songwriter.

34

Corey - What was your most memorable experience on the show? Caitlin - Without a doubt, it was the moment after my blind audition when all the coaches addressed me by name. I remember thinking, “OMG- did my name just come out of John Legend's mouth!” It felt incredibly personal and surreal. Corey - How has the show helped your social media presence? Caitlin - The Voice definitely boosted my social media presence, widening my audience and attracting engaged followers. It’s been exciting to watch, and I've really enjoyed connecting with new supporters. Corey - Would you do it again if you had the chance? Caitlin - Absolutely, YES! The experience was transformative and immensely beneficial for my career. I think the biggest thing you have to keep in mind is that it’s Hollywood and no matter what happens- never let the show define you. If you go in with that attitude you have nothing to lose. Corey - What would be your best advice for future contestants? Caitlin - Embrace the journey by forming connections with fellow artists. Prioritize your well-being and be grateful for the experience. Regardless of the outcome, the connections and personal growth are invaluable. Corey - What’s next for you on your musical journey? Caitlin - With a backlog of unreleased songs, I'm excited to share a lot of new music in 2024. Additionally, securing my first sync placement with "Kringle’s Coming To Town" in a Christmas movie on Amazon called A Perfect Christmas Pairing” has prompted me to explore more opportunities in that direction in 2024. Corey - Where can we find you and your music? Caitlin - Connect with me on all social media and streaming platforms. For a deeper dive into my world, visit my website, where you'll find not only my music but also my artwork, merchandise, and online classes designed for fellow creatives (coming soon).

J.E.S.U.S ENCOURAGED TO ADD THE MAIN INGREDIENT TO YOUR LIFE When I was a child in Mississippi, I loved to watch my mother make my favorite cake. She would fill the bowl with flour, add milk, then she would crack the eggs, and add the butter and vanilla flavoring. Then she would ask me, “Now what’s missing?” I knew she meant for me to give her the sugar, because I knew the main ingredient of the cake was the sugar, without the sugar the cake would not taste very good. The sugar is what makes the cake the cake, and without it you had nothing that even came close to tasting like a cake. It’s like apple juice without the apple, or like going swimming when there’s no water in the pool. Our lives are like the cake recipe, it contains ingredients that add character, personality, and goodness that flavors our lives. But unfortunately, sometimes we fail to add the main ingredient that makes our lives complete, and that ingredient is a sweet relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You will never know how sweet the relationship is until you have experienced it for yourself. Psalms 38:4 (NKJV) King David said,” Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.” Have you ever been to a supermarket when a company was handing out free samples of their product? The basic concept behind this form of marketing is “taste and see, you will like it.” The assumption is that once you have tried the product, you will come back for more. King David assumed the same thing about one’s experience with the Lord when he said,” Oh taste and see that the Lord is good.” King David challenges the people to taste and see that the Lord is good.” He wanted them to taste God’s goodness, because he wanted them to experience God firsthand. Baking a cake for your family is a labor of love but also basic chemistry, you are mixing ingredients together to make it into something wonderful. While leaving out the butter, the eggs, or baking powder can change how the cake looks and tastes, also if the main ingredient is left out which is the sugar, then what you have left is a horrible tasting flat piece of nothing. After my mother was done adding all the ingredients, she would put the big bowl on her side, and began to walk around the kitchen stirring it to mix it thoroughly together. Then, when she was done after about 10 minutes of stirring, she would give me the spoon from the batter that was dripping with this goodness that she had just prepared as a reward for my participation in the process. It tasted so good, that I think I would have eaten the spoon if she had not taken it from me when she saw I was done licking it clean. She knew how to add the right ingredients to make the cake do what it was supposed to do. I’ve gotten busted many times trying to sneak a piece of that cake without permission, thank God for grace and mercy because they saved my life many days from my mother’s wrath. I remember when my life didn’t taste so good, because of all the wrong ingredients that I was adding to it. My life was just like that cake recipe before the sugar was added, it looked and tasted horrible because I forgot to add the main ingredient to it. All the wrong choices that I was making, and all the wrong ingredients that I was choosing from the shelves of the world trying to add flavor to my life and make it taste better. I tried just about every kind of, (quote on quote) spice of life, but my life was still missing something. Have you ever tasted a dish and realized that an ingredient was missing? But you just couldn’t put your finger on it, you knew there was a missing ingredient, but you kept drawing a blank as to what it was. That’s where I was in my life, until I realized I was missing the main ingredient that would add a taste to my life that is like no other taste in the world. There is a song that says,” there is something about the name of Jesus, it’s the sweetest name I know.” I understand now because of the cakes that my mother used to make for me, that there is an ingredient that you must have in your life that will make all the difference in the world. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good, and never again will you want to live without him in your life. Be encouraged my friends, the spice of life awaits you. Add the main ingredient to your life, which is Jesus Christ.

WILLIAM THE ENCOURAGER. W.M. Harris grew up in Mississippi on a plantation with his mother and stepfather, who were sharecroppers. He spent his teenage years in Chicago where he was involved with gangs, drugs, and violence. After a shooting incident and with a broken heart his mother made a decision that changed her son’s life forever. She dedicated his life, her son to the Lord. God heard a mother’s prayer, and today that ever present hand of God is the living testimony of William The Encourager...An Author, Speaker, Radio Show Host, Husband, Father, Friend and Follower of J.E.S.U.S.

”I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord’s mercy. I

pour out my complaints before Him and tell Him my troubles. When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn.”

Psalms 142:1-3 We all struggle with questions that can hold us back, keep us down, and drown us in our own thoughts if we choose to let them. The Heavenly Father invites us to pour out all of our doubts, worries, and struggles to Him so that He can renew our heart, soul, and mind as well as direct our paths to the abundant life He wants to give us all. I pray this song serves as a reminder that though we may struggle with stinkin’ thinkin’ we can choose to take those thoughts and questions captive by calling out to Heaven so that we can be renewed in the likeness of the Heavenly Father. #THEGOSPELTRUTH

THE NEW YEAR... Many of us have said, “starting in 2024 I am going to ________” Why exactly do we do this? Is there some kind of magical time vortex wormhole kinda thing that happens when each New Year comes around? Is there something about the changing of one digit that gives us the power to make a life change? Well, of course not! The whole concept is absurd really. We tend to treat time as a marker for decisions and life changing plans, In reality, the Bible shows and tells us to do the opposite. Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Hebrews 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts in the rebellion” Hebrews 3:13 Exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread…. James 4:14 What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. It is apparent from even these handful of scriptures that TODAY is the day. We often look ahead and seek some sort of time marker to set our life by. Perhaps, we as humans, think so small that we require a point in time to set our minds. The word of God is telling us that these decisions are for today. We do not even have tomorrow promised anyway. Tomorrow often turns into next week and next week into next year and so on. We often miss “today” because we are looking beyond what is in front of us in hopes for something better. We use the future as an indicator of improvement. Many of us have said “someday I’d like to _______” or “one of these days I am going to______”. Why do we say these things? Personally, I believe it could be several reasons. One reason could be FEAR, fear of failure will often stop us from trying to do better and be better. Another reason could simply be “laziness”. If we say we are going to “eventually” do something better with our lives, it kinda sounds good.

58

#THEGOSPELTRUTH Many times we are drawn into conversations with people who think this way and we join in. We will say “oh yes, me too! I hope by this time next year I will have that all sorted” But, if we do not start today, we are already a day behind. Life is happening now, it is happening in this very moment as you read these words. Tomorrow will come and go, maybe. Or maybe this is it. I think that is what the scripture is telling us. If you want to do something, do it NOW! Start NOW! Creating a marker in time “down the road” will never be a promise that you can keep to yourself. You’re already saying “I can’t do it today”, YES YOU CAN. If there is something in your life that needs to be improved, do it now. You do not need a new year or lunar cycle to help you. All you need is to pray and ask God for his strength to help you become better. He is there to help us when we seek excellence. Honestly, we rely WAY TOO MUCH on the NEW YEAR nonsense anyway. Do we really believe that something amazing is going to happen between December 31st and January 1st? Like some surge of incredible power and focus is going to kick in? Without prayer and seeking God's will in your life, any decision you make on any date will fail miserably anyway. God will never lead us by saying “starting in 2024 I want you to____” Nope. According to the Bible, everything was done on that day and in that very moment. Jesus never said, “I’ll get with you on some things after the New Year” When God laid direction on someone it was always right then and right there. Also, there’s nothing “new” about the New Year anyway, Ecclesiastes 1:9 says “what has been will be again, what has been will be done again, there is nothing new under the sun” This tells us that we are all in an inevitable loop of recurring themes if we do not move to break that loop. We must take today as it is and live it to its fullest. We must accept the blank canvas of today and paint it as a new masterpiece, leaving nothing to chance or question. Setting time markers simply will cause us to waste today in a false anticipation for tomorrow. Matthew 6:34 speaks against that philosophy. To sum up: Today has never been lived, it is a blank canvas for you to design. If you seek to put God first today and seek excellence in that God will bless this day and give you an increase. With each passing day that you live that way, you can increase more and more. The NEW YEAR has nothing to do with it. Be determined to live today and to change as your knowledge increases to do so. We all have plenty to keep us busy in the arena of self improvement, we do not need a calendar to help get started. The Holy Spirit is always speaking and moving on us to guide and direct, do not ignore him by saying “I will start and this time or that” START NOW!

#LIFEFILTERS By Rainee Herod As I/we get older I love how years of trials and tribulations produce wisdom, long suffering and a DIFFERENT FILTER in which to view this life. Now I’m telling on myself here, but I used to be completely consumed with MY life, MY way, God was always there but not to often in the forefront... Better said, I didn’t view my life as for Him and serving Him, I viewed and lived it for me and mine. Reading in Matthew 24:45-51 teaches a great lesson!! As believers waiting with anticipation for our Lord, we must be wise and trustworthy until he returns. When he comes for his church, Jesus will expect to find us BUSY SERVING HIM, growing His kingdom so he can reward us for our faithfulness. There will be great grief experienced by believers who will lose out on rewards in the millennial kingdom....(we will be heartbroken we didn’t do more for Him while we had the chance) Since they didn’t take the return of Christ seriously by serving him FAITHFULLY, they will face profound regret and loss of rewards before the Lord. So yes the highest importance is to ask the Lord for forgiveness and know you’re on your way to Heaven but also, keep working for Him, (saved FOR good works) keep putting HIS AGENDA ahead of your own while we await the rapture, serve God with gladness, devotion and faithfulness....it’s so not about us anyways Gulp, we’re just pilgrims passing through .

Live music inside a cave, it’s a bucket list experience that keeps fans coming back to The Caverns time and again for “The Greatest Show Under Earth.” During the day, 7 days a week, guided tours navigate an underground room that’s 3 football fields long and end on the stage of the iconic underground music venue. For thrill seekers, challenging adventure cave tours go even deeper underground. We invite you to enjoy and explore the music and adventure of The Caverns!

The Caverns’ large, connected underground cave system covers over 8,000 linear feet of known surreal cave passages. Underground shows are hosted in a section of The Caverns historically known to locals and cavers as the Big Mouth Cave because of its impressive, large archway entrance. Experts believe humans have been using the cave to escape the heat, take refuge from rain, and enjoy each other's company for up to 25,000 years. For cave concerts, The Caverns can accommodate 850 people in padded chair seating or up to 1,200 people for standing-room only shows. What’s more, the subterranean concert hall is equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lights, has well-appointed restrooms, and offers delicious food and beverage concessions including craft beer, cider and seltzers. And thanks to the gentle slope of the room and its smooth concrete floor, the venue is accessible to music fans with mobility concerns or physical disabilities. Daily guided tours include a journey through Big Room Cave, an awe-inspiring underground room which gets its name from its massive size. During the tour, guests learn a little bit about geology, cave lore, and the unique history of Grundy County. Adventure cave tours take guests even deeper inside The Caverns cave system and include the adventurous “Tombstone Pass.” With stunning views of the Cumberland Plateau, The Caverns Amphitheater hosts crowds of up to 6,000 guests per show. The amphitheater has reserved chair seating available close to the stage for almost all shows. Guests in this front section have exclusive access to restrooms and their own bar inside the world famous subterranean cave. At the back of the amphitheater, a new concessions building and restrooms have been added as well as spaces for local food trucks to set up. Pop-up bars in key locations throughout the amphitheater serve guests as well. In the rear sections, guests can bring their own blankets and chairs. Down twisting country roads, The Caverns is located at 555 Charlie Roberts Road, Pelham, TN 37366 in a geographical sweet spot approximately 90 minutes from Nashville, TN, 60 minutes from Chattanooga, TN, and less than three hours from Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL and Knoxville, TN. Additionally, there’s much to explore in the surrounding Southeast Tennessee area, like South Cumberland State Park Tennessee’s largest state park, which includes hiking trails, majestic waterfalls, world-class rock climbing, and stunning overlooks. The surrounding communities of Monteagle, Tracy City, and Sewanee offer local dining, shopping, and historic sites surrounded by nature’s beauty. The Caverns stays 59 degrees year-round with 91% humidity. The cave feels cool when it's hot outside and warm on cold weather days. Whether you’re attending a concert or taking a cave tour, be sure to bring a light jacket and wear comfortable shoes. If you book an Adventure Cave Tour, you will be provided all the caving gear you'll need. For concert-goers, “Stay-and-Cave” packages are available with lodging and transportation to and from the venue. See you underground down in The Caverns!

NATIONAL BIBLE SUNDAY January 28, 2024 As the oldest and most read book in the world, the Bible brings with it a great deal of history, poetry, culture, letters and stories. Believed to have been written over a span of at least 1500 years and authored by at least 40 different people, this book is more than one book – it really could be considered a library of 66 books! With millions of copies printed each year, the Bible offers many compelling reasons for it to be read, and National Bible Sunday seems like a great time to do it.

Lord, bless this Bible, your living Word given to us to be shared, read aloud, and acted on through the worship of our lives.
