THE EMBODIMENT OF POWER RANCH BY JANINE IGLIANE

Board of Directors | Secretary

One of the most exciting projects I have been able to be a part of during my time as a Power Ranch Board member is the Barn renovation project. The Barn has become an iconic part of the Power Ranch community; not only because of the beautiful lake and luscious green grass, but also due to its immense size and versatility! Did you know the Power Ranch community was originally developed without the Barn? The Barn facility was actually an afterthought by the builders. As a resident, I am so thankful they added it! Located just off of Ranch House Parkway next to Centennial Elementary, the Barn is an adaptable space that has hosted a variety of

events throughout the years. In fact, the first community event I went to when I moved here in 2007 was a ‘Princess Party at the Barn’. I took my daughter, who is now 15 years old, and to this day I hold those memories near and dear to my heart. Prior to the renovation, the Barn hosted countless weddings, parties, a weekly Farmers Market, the annual Power Ranch Quartermania charity event, the Annual Meeting of the Members and numerous clubs and classes. The Holiday Bliss Boutique has been hosted at the Barn every fall allowing residents the opportunity to peruse handmade holiday crafts and goods. I personally have used the Barn for my annual client Christmas party.

We are so lucky, as Power Ranch residents, to have a versatile and affordable amenity to use for events. But, after many years of wear and tear, the Barn was due for an update and some repurposing. With that in mind, a survey was sent out to Power Ranch residents inquiring into their use and need of the Barn. The survey feedback was collected and reviewed by the Board of Directors and after a vote, the Barn renovation plan was put into motion. It is an honor to serve with other Board members and a management company that truly puts the voices of the residents first. The surveys were studied, results tallied and Committee meetings held, all to ensure

we honored the wishes of the residents. I’m excited for you to see the Barn when it is all done! Not only will the facility offer better acoustics, it will have an amazing indoor/outdoor space with an extended back patio. The layout of the kitchen has been redesigned to offer a more functional use when hosting events. Lastly, the restrooms have been beautifully scaled up and a Bridal Suite has been constructed! I won’t give all the details away, you will have to wait for the grand reopening! For more information, or to check out the progress of the Barn you can visit www. mypowerranch.com.

IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT BY ANTHONY MARMINO

Four Peaks Landscape Management

HOLIDAY/ SEASONAL DÉCOR AND LIGHTING BY JULIE DEMARS

Community Standards Coordinator

As everyone is aware 2020 has provided some very difficult challenges for all of us. With that in mind the Power Ranch Community Association empowers all Power Ranch residents to fully embrace the spirit of the season that is quickly approaching. We encourage all residents to celebrate the successful navigation of new challenges, celebrate your loved ones, your friends and your neighbors.

With any successful landscape it begins with the management of the irrigation system. Our Irrigation team is tasked with ensuring the irrigation system that delivers water to over 12,174,544 sq. feet or 280 acres of landscape is maintained and operating as efficiently as possible. Over the last 15 years annual water usage is approximately 925-acre feet per year or 301,411,250 gallons. There are many facets to irrigation management. Many routine daily schedules take place to ensure a high level of service is provided to the Power Ranch Community. IRRIGATION PUMP SYSTEMS: Did you know that one-acre foot of water equals 325,850 gallons of water? An Olympic swimming pool holds 660,000 gallons of water, so roughly 2-acre feet. The landscaping in Power Ranch requires over 450 Olympic pools worth of water each year. There is a total of 3 wells in the community that pull ground water from 700 feet deep, which pump and deliver pulled water to the 2 community lakes which act as our holding area to irrigate the landscape. These 3 wells must push the water over 2 miles in total distance to get water to the lakes. There are 2 irrigation pump systems on site that then pull the water from the lakes and distribute it to the landscape. At each pump station we manage a chemical injection system that allows us to regulate the pH level of the outgoing irrigation water. Regulating the pH promotes plant health by freeing nutrients for use by the plants that may otherwise

remain locked in the soil. We also inject small amounts of liquid fertilizer into the irrigation water. This continual feeding ensures plants and trees benefit as well as the turf. These systems are electronically controlled and programmed for a set rate based upon the needs of the landscape. These rates are monitored and adjusted weekly based on the precipitation rates of the system throughout the year to keep the application rates consistent as water usage increases or decreases. MAXICOM IRRIGATION SYSTEM: The backbone of the water management system is the Maxicom central control computer. We monitor this system daily as it allows us to communicate with the irrigation schedule remotely. Close monitoring allows us to keep the system operating at its peak level. Using data gathered from the dedicated onsite weather station we can make modifications based on current weather trends. The onsite weather station measures, in real time, solar radiation, humidity, wind conditions, and collects any daily precipitation data. We understand that water conservation is not only important to Power Ranch, but also to the city and region where we live. Using the technology available to its fullest ensures we are doing our part to manage the water supply for tomorrow. We are proud to say that we have stayed consistently under our annual water allotment of 1250 acre-feet with the water usage at Power Ranch each year through sound management practices – a savings of 110,000,000 gallons in 2019 alone.

We encourage residents to show their holiday spirit by decorating their homes and property with approved, decorative holiday items, such as temporary lights, inflatables, displays and holiday flags. Although these items are allowed throughout the Power Ranch community without prior approval, such items may only be displayed 30 days prior to the actual holiday and must be removed 14 days after the holiday. String lighting may only be placed on your property and not on your neighbor’s property or in any common areas, including common walls and trees. If you are decorating your lot using projection, motion lighting and/or music, please be respectful to your neighbors with regard to brightness, volume and hours of operation. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Power Ranch Community Association office at prfrontdesk@ccmenet.com or 480.988.0960. It is our sincere wish that all Power Ranch residents can relax and enjoy each other and all of the beautiful sights and sounds during this busy, festive season!

STAY CONNECTED BY AMY BARRETT

Communications Coordinator

Some of us may be returning to our offices on a daily basis, while some of us may have transitioned to a full-time remote working environment. No matter your work location I have found it more crucial than ever to stay connected; and the easiest way to do that is digitally. I find myself checking my personal emails multiple times a day where “pre-Covid I may have checked them once a week. Communication is the foundation of all relationships, whether it occurs within our family and friends, with co-workers or with a vendor. Whether we communicate digitally or in person the experience and message should be consistent. It is important that our team provide messaging through various outlets that relate to the diverse residents of Power Ranch. As a full-time working mother of four juggling extracurricular activities, household maintenance, laundry, and groceries I need to be able to access information on the go, wherever I am. With over 4,000 homes in the Power Ranch Community I understand the importance of media variety. The weekly PowerLine e-newsletter is the most accessible form of communication available to you as a resident of Power Ranch. It has served the community for many years and provides various community information, upcoming lifestyle events and most recently the PowerLine has begun to highlight top stories in the greater community. Our lifestyle team is wonderful in providing personal stories, campaigns and other interactive games via our Facebook and Instagram pages. The newly redesigned community website, mypowerranch.com, provides one central location for residents to engage with the association staff, find community documents, the Town of Gilbert bulk trash schedule and access upcoming events among many other items. The Power Ranch Living magazine is delivered bi-monthly to all residents within the community. This magazine is used as a way for our Board members, community partners, schools and staff to provide more details into upcoming community events, community projects and address common questions received from our residents. I encourage you to stay connected within the community and look at these outlets to find the one that fits your household’s lifestyle. The staff at Power Ranch will continue to develop new and exciting ways to connect with our residents virtually as well as providing a safe and welcoming environment for our residents to still conduct necessary business at the office.

SILVER LINING BY KRISTHA LIMA Lifestyle Director

The year is quickly coming to a close and the holidays are fast approaching. Before we get into the hustle and bustle of it all, I want to take a moment to remind us all to celebrate the small wins and take note of the opportunities 2020 has brought forth. It has no doubt been a different year filled with many changes and frustrations, but there have been some silver linings. In speaking to some residents recently, I was pleasantly surprised by all the positive changes this year brought for them. Many of our Power Ranch families had time to get outside and enjoy the amenities in ways they never could before because life was too busy. So many bought bikes and began taking nightly bike rides as a family. Others started walking or running routinely through our many walking paths. Many of our residents began fishing at our two lakes. Many of our dog owners also spent more time walking their furry friends, making them the happiest! For many, these new-found daily outings will continue because of the quality time it created for them as a family. These small or in some cases large wins bring hope for the New Year. Hope that we have been given the gift of time and reflection. Time to spend with loved ones and the ability to truly reflect on the most important things in our lives. As the Lifestyle Director, it inspires me to connect and engage more with all of you! I love hearing your stories and I look forward to more in-person events in the New Year!

ROLLING WITH THE PUNCHES BY SHANNTEL

Power Ranch Resident and Cinnaholic Gilbert Business Owner San Tan Village Pavilions in Gilbert

New to entrepreneurship, my husband and I are learning a great deal about the true nature of owning a small business. The number one lesson learned is to expect a constant state of change and uncertainty. Luckily we specialize in cinnamon rolls and roll well with the punches, literally. COVID-19 has impacted the world in such a tremendous way. We sympathize for the vast majority of small businesses devastated by this pandemic, and are so grateful for the wonderful experience we have had in Gilbert. The pandemic brought many difficult and trying times for our family. There were drastic changes to our staffing, leaving my husband to work long days at the store while I home schooled the kids. However, the continuous support we received from our community motivated us to get through each day. We saw an amazing amount of collaboration and generosity from members of the community. Our customers showed support where they could, and our team got creative. As many businesses did across the states, we initiated curbside pick-up and boosted third party deliveries. We also donated whenever possible, and hosted $1 “Old Skool roll days for healthcare workers as a show of appreciation for all they do. Making adjustments in our normal day-to-day business operations allowed us to reach more Gilbert residents than before, bringing loyal customers that we may not have otherwise reached. The greatest thing about owning a small business is the ability for us to stay agile and quickly make adjustments and adapt to industry changes. Cinnaholic is not only surviving during these trying times, but we are thriving. We thank the residents of Gilbert and our amazing customers for that.
