THE BREAD AND BAKERY INDUSTRIALIST OF MODERN INDIA ARUN KHANNA

Arun Khanna a renowned industrialist from India who offers opportunities for growth, innovation, and job generation... heralds the bread industry and advocates equal opportunity for men and women.

DEFINITION OF BREAD AND BAKERY INDUSTRY HEADED BY SHRI ARUN KHANNA?

The bread and bakery industry is a dynamic sector that supplies food to millions of consumers every day. The focus of the bread and bakery industry is the production and selling of flour and wheat-based products that are baked in an oven. ... Every day, the equivalent of over 9 million large loaves of bread is consumed. During the pandemic, the remarkable supply of perennial bread to the masses at low rates kept the hunger of millions at bay ....unrecognised and unsung heroes drove the industry with 24-hour shifts to supply the ever-growing demand...

Shri Arun Khanna has taken this forward from his forefathers Lala Amir Chand Khanna, who started a bakery in old Delhi in 1920, which merged with the Britannia industries limited, the largest manufacturer of bread and bakery products in India, Separated into three categories, bread, biscuits, and cakes and pastries, the industry has reached a market value

of USD 7.22 billion in 2018. As the secondlargest producer of biscuits after the USA, India is a key player internationally, and with the entrepreneurial spirit of Indian companies and individuals, it is one of the most exciting regions for the bakery sector.

SHRI ARUN KHANNA supports CHANGING CONSUMER TRENDS as there is greater demand for healthier products and alternatives, particularly when it comes to bakery goods which are now more commonly consumed daily as opposed to being a treat. With high consumption rates, customers want baked goods that are ‘guilt-free’ and are increasingly seeking gluten-free products, or goods made with alternative the ingredients such as multigrain and whole-wheat. Alongside healthier options, millennials, in particular, are always seeking new flavours and experiences, making flavour the innovation key.,Britannia the parent company is continuously upgrading and innovating in their large RN D setups in Bangalore and elsewhere for the future health of the masses.

Organised bakeries in India are also utilising social marketing. Lacking the large budgets of international chains, local bakery-cafes are eschewing traditional marketing to rely on word-of-mouth recommendations and social media engagement.

INNOVATION IS THE KEY FACTOR THAT ARUN KHANNA CONSTANTLY LIVES WITH IN ORDER TO CATER TO THE GROWING DEMAND. ARUN KHANNA HAS BEEN EDUCATED IN THE SOUTHFIELDS COLLEGE OF FURTHER EDUCATION U.K AND HAS A VERY THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE INDUSTRY AND ITS EVOLVING TRENDS.....

With the recent influx of international cafe and bakery chains, on-the-go food has become increasingly popular. With hectic lifestyles, Indian consumers are prioritising convenience, and as bread

and biscuits are fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), bakeries are a go-to option. While there is demand and appetite for bakery products, the Indian bakery industry faces certain challenges. The industry is generally divided into organised and unorganised, with more than 2,000 organised or semi-organised bakeries, and 1,000,000 unorganised bakeries. Operational efficiency is a major issue in the industry, as is the lack of technology and skilled workers.

Organised bakeries in India are also utilising social marketing. Lacking the large budgets of international chains, local bakery-cafes are eschewing traditional marketing to rely on wordof-mouth recommendations and social media engagement. Tapping into the artisanal market, smaller bakeries can concentrate on quality over quantity, while larger Indian chains such as Barista and Mad Over Donuts rely on creating larger quantities but with strong branding and associated

trust.

At every level in the bakery industry in India, there are challenges and opportunities. While the rise of local home bakers is encouraging, there are issues of hygiene practices and standards, and organised bakeries are also incurring losses due to a lack of operational efficiency and skilled workers.

Despite certain difficulties, the forecast for the Indian bakery industry is positive with a

projected market value likely to exceed USD 12 billion by 2024 expanding at a CARG of 9.3% from 2019 to 2024. Alongside these predictions, India occupies a unique position in the market as flavour innovation continues to grow in importance on a global scale. Indian traditions and access to interesting and unusual flavour combinations will allow them to continue to excel and innovate in this market.

Although there are obstacles that are causing losses,

there has been a boom in entrepreneurial endeavours in the bakery industry in India. Home baking has always been a popular pursuit, but with new technological innovations, individuals have been able to monetise their efforts. On a smaller scale, local What’s App groups have become popular to supply neighbours and locals with baked goods, which highlights the power of networking technology.

Arun Khanna advocates...that... Organised bakeries in India that are also utilising social media

LUCIA HOXHA

I was born in the valley surrounded by mountains in the stunning beauty of my beloved Slovakia, where my heart belongs 41 years ago to a family of loving parents and rather wonderful people as the youngest child.

I was always the one being in charge of my own life. I always achieved whatever I put mymindinto and if it wasn't happening, I just worked little bit harder and found the way to do so. Very successful, winning tennis competitions, shining on the stage, involved in various projects, hanging out with celebrities, being on TV - as a high achiever since my early formative years, I was used to winning in life... and then, in my early 30-th, for the first time - I started feeling like a failure... I was not able to conceive a child!

It was a first time when no matter how much I tried, it was just not happening. In fact, the more I pushed, the more painfully I failed. I was living an extremely busy life and felt exhausted after numerous burn-outs...

I realised if I really want to be a mum, there is something new I need to do as whatever I am doing simply doesn't work! And so I started searching for answers - no longer on the social media or internet, but inside of my soul. Even more importantly, I started asking myself new questions!

...and that's where my Journey Towards Motherhood really started...

Freedom is to be at peace with myself and to express the truth of my being...

ARE YOU TOO NICE

FOR YOUR OWN GOOD?

How being too nice is bad for your career, relationships and health and what to do about it

You are a nice person. Caring, thoughtful, empathetic and kind. The world needs more people like you. But are you too nice for your own good?

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE TOO NICE?

You get overlooked for the promotions. Your workload is increased whereas some of your colleagues seem to do very little. You never get a pay rise. And no one seems to hear what you have to say in meetings. You complain yet stay in toxic work environments.

In your relationships outside of work you may find you keep getting into unhealthy relationships, or staying in them too long. You find it hard to get your needs met. Although you may love someone very much, you don’t feel the level of intimacy or connection you would like.

You certainly have no time for your own hobbies and interests (if you even know what they are).

You find you don’t have time to look after yourself. You feel constantly tired.

If any of this is sounding familiar, you are not alone, it’s not your fault and you can do something about it.

WHERE DOES ALL THIS COME FROM?

As children, we pick up both verbal and nonverbal messages from our parents or caretakers

on how life works and how to navigate our existence. In transactional analysis terms, we all have one or more ‘drivers’ that we have absorbed, such as ‘be strong’, ‘be perfect’, or ‘please people’ that unconsciously drive our behaviour.

It may be that you were rewarded with affection when you were happy and bubbly, but ignored or criticised if you were sad. It may be that you were told off when you got angry and so you learnt not to feel your anger. It may be that you were taught to put others needs before your own, for

example, giving your aunt a hug when you really didn’t want to.

And at school those messages get reinforced where you are rewarded for being polite and quiet, not having any problems or questions and for helping out.

You learned that making other people happy made you feel happy (for a while anyway). You adopted the peoplepleasing pattern of thinking, feeling and behaving and it helped you get by in the world. It helped you survive all the difficulties life has thrown at you.

Yet living in that pattern also cuts you off from your true self, from knowing what you want in life and from being able to lead your life. It keeps you playing small at work and from having rewarding relationships.

If you continue to say ‘Yes’ to everyone else when your body wants to say ‘No’, this will eventually take its toll on your health and wellbeing. I talk with too many people who have reached burnout or developed chronic illnesses before they are ready to break their peoplepleasing patterns.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PLEASE YOURSELF INSTEAD?

The good news is that you can break free of people-pleasing patterns, regardless of where they came from and how long you have been living them. You can begin to replace that fake smile with a real one, following these steps:

• Self-discovery

• Mind-Body connection

• Inner-child

• Loving boundaries

• Effective communication

Self-discovery: You want to

And at school those messages get reinforced where you are rewarded for being polite and quiet, not having any problems or questions and for helping out.

turn that beautiful attention you give to everyone else, to yourself. That may feel awkward at first and that’s okay. You want to start learning about yourself – what you love, what makes you laugh, what’s important to you, what

you long for. You can’t speak up for yourself until you know yourself.

Mind-body connection: You are likely to be very sensitive to what others are feeling but find it hard to know what you are feeling. Your feelings give you vital information and the power that you need in order to take care of yourself. Your mind can be very quick to tell you what you think, but in order to know how you feel, you need to tune into your whole being. When you want to know how you feel, breathe, give your attention to the centre of your being and wait for the answer.

Inner-child: This is the part of you that formed from birth to about age 6. Everyone has an inner child. You need to develop a relationship with and take care of your inner child so that they feel protected and loved without needing to cling onto other people. You need to start validating them for who they are, rather than expecting other people to do it for you.

Loving boundaries: Your boundaries tell other people how you want to be treated. They are self-care in action. There are lots of different kinds of boundaries, such as time, emotional, mental, spiritual, physical and sexual ones. Often, those in the people-pleasing pattern have boundaries that are too diffuse, meaning they say ‘Yes’ too often and take on others’ problems and end up feeling overwhelmed and drained. You can learn to set loving boundaries based on your truth, by noticing what is true for you and what you need in any given moment.

Effective communication: If you weren’t taught how to advocate for yourself growing up, you can learn. Instead of guessing others intentions, you can ask. Instead of hinting at what you need, you can learn to be direct. Instead of waiting to hear everyone else’s opinions before you speak, you can say what you think first. You can learn who to trust with your feelings.

All of these SMILE elements will help you break those people-pleasing patterns. You are still that caring, kind person but you now have access to your own power and your own peace and can make healthy choices for your own wellbeing.

You will begin to show up as an equal in your relationships, speak up for what you want, get recognised and rewarded at work and become the leader of your own life.

GENERATION PI

Reswizzling of Business Brought to you by Artificial Intelligence and Millennials

MARK D. DEMERS

SR. DIRECTOR, SAS

(Continue from the previous Edition)

GENERATIONS

When we think about generations in the workplace, every generation tends to have stereotypes. The Silent Generation will put their head down and work through anything. Boomers identify who they are as a person with what they do for a living. Gen Xers were once referred to as slackers, while the Millennials are entitled snowflakes. Gen Z was briefly known as the "Tide Pod Generation.”

Here’s the good and bad news. Aging retiring workforces led by Baby Boomers are walking out the revolving doors of business at a record pace –

Enter stage left –Millennials. Millennials span from those born in 1981 to those born in 1996; some claim it’s from the years 1983 and 2000.

taking with them “TRIBAL knowledge.”

Enter stage left – Millennials. Millennials span from those born in 1981 to those born in 1996; some claim it’s from the years 1983 and 2000.

Millennials and Generation Zs came of age simultaneously as social media. These Digital Natives connect, collaborate, and create disruption using their smart devices and

keyboards. Millennials are a tech-literate group who expect to be connected anywhere, at any time. While born after the invention of the internet, other technologies reached them in their teens, and they adopted them at a rapid pace, but they weren’t born with technology at their fingertips. That honor goes to their successors, Generation Z.

Millennials are currently the most potent generation for companies worldwide and make up the most significant working population. In just three years from now, supposedly, although I’m not sure I buy the exact figure, millennials will represent 75% of the global workforce by 2025.

In the US, millennials are estimated to have overtaken

baby boomers to become the nation’s largest generation. China meanwhile has 350+ million millennials, which represents more than 25% of the country’s total population. Millennial workforce statistics show this generation represents a huge chunk of the world's labor forces of the top 2 economies. Why are Millennials so crucial to this story and Gen PI? With these sheer numbers, and work ethics, attitudes, and technical prowess, millennial preferences will dictate the world of work for years to come.

Here is one such stat that should give you pause, though. According to WorkMarket, an ADP Company, 49% of millennials will quit their jobs within the next two years. Do you think you have a problem with “tribal knowledge” leaving your workplace? Just wait—plan for it to become worse. Or do something about it, recognizing the great exodus of generations and the foray of advanced computing technologies like artificial intelligence waiting in the wings to replace them.

Okay. Yeah, I know. You ask, well, what about the 400-800 million jobs that could be displaced by 2030.

Millennials won't help cure the growing corporate memory gap by merely being on the job. What Millennials are bringing to the workplace are attitudes shaped by the digital revolution. The state of IT in most workplaces frustrates them because their technology is much more advanced and powerful. Due to the convergence of social, mobile, and cloud, they are used to sharing, transparency, and instantly connecting with people regardless of location. They hold dissatisfaction with corporate systems and traditional hierarchies. They have a different outlook to the generations before them and far lower acceptance levels for the status quo. They are used to Apps that update automatically several times a year.

While we may have a growing

shortage of talent and workers' loyalty continues to wane, the rise of advanced automated technologies to complement them like AI, machine learning, natural language processing, quantum computing, computer vision will spear 133 million new jobs by 2022.

The World Economic Forum predicts that among these millions of new jobs, data analysts and scientists, AI and machine learning specialists, and general and operations managers will emerge as the top three roles.

Okay. Yeah, I know. You ask, well, what about the 400800 million jobs that could be displaced by 2030.

McKinsey Global Institute’s latest report assesses the number and types of jobs that might be created under different scenarios through 2030 and compares that to the jobs that could be lost to automation. Essentially new work opportunities will come but will likely need reskilling or just “killing” off job roles altogether.

Half of the Fortune 500 companies from 2000 are no longer with us. Leaders have failed to keep up with the times.

Millennials are not significantly more tech-savvy at work than GenXers. But – Millennials are in the buyer's seat in IT.

Keep in mind that they “trust in technology” – hand-held PCs (iPhones) and gaming and APPs that already do all sorts of things for them, including taking them places (UBER) and bringing them things (Food and AMAZON).

According to CIO Magazine,

93% of Millennials cite modern and up-to-date technology as one of the most important aspects of a workplace. 40% of finance executives plan to make workforce and analytics investments. So, expect big changes.

Firms need to prepare for a whirlwind of change. The world of work is fast-moving and ever-evolving. It’s probably the most repeated prognostication of the year: Robots are eventually going to take your job, and probably sooner than you think. By 2030, a global human talent shortage of more than 85 million people will exist.

WHAT DOES YOUR FUTURE WORKFORCE LOOK LIKE?
HAVE YOUR CAKE (AND PI) AND EAT IT TOO

As Charles Darwin said, it is not the strongest species that survive, nor even the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.

HOW TO DEVELOP TRUE CONFIDENCE DON’T FAKE IT! FACE IT!

Having high self-confidence is one of the most important traits for a happy and successful life.

When it comes to gaining confidence, we have all heard the advice “Fake it till you make it”.

The statement does have a ring of truth to it and I will be the first to admit that I have tried to fake confidence in the past whether it was a college project presentation, first job interview and many such challenging situations.

What I have noticed is that faking confidence works only in short term circumstances when you are either feeling low or having unjustified self-doubt.

If you are seeking long-term success, then faking confidence will not take you far. If you want to achieve something, it has come from your authentic self. You cannot fake success, you need to work, give it your all and make it happen!

Say for example, you are preparing for an important presentation and you are not a public speaker as your job does not normally require that skill. Content wise you know in your bones what you are doing, what you are going to offer to your audience. You have enough substance within you but simply lack the confidence to

express in front of people. In this case yes, you can fake your confidence you already are the subject matter expert and it may even work!

However, if you do believe that public speaking happens to be a much-needed critical skill that can accelerate your career, then this calls for you to develop true confidence. Faking will not help you to face your problem head on and without improving your skills, you will start to feel

As you progress through your life and career, it becomes all the more important to surpass faking part to actually making it happen!

insecure about yourself. This insecurity and self-doubt will prevent you from developing true confidence needed for long term success.

Instead of faking, you should rather invest time to develop that skill. Read about it, learn the intricacies, attend coaching classes, volunteer to speak at local network meeting, practice at every given opportunity and aim to engage with your audience each time you speak in public! Once you dive deep and give your 100%, you will eventually master the skill. With strong expertise comes true confidence!

Standard norm “Fake it till you make it” remains short sighted advice for most of us. Because let’s face it. Faking requires you to suppress genuine emotions and that is hard as it requires more conscious effort to conceal your anxiety.

Faking takes away a part of who you are. So how can you enjoy success if you lose your authenticity in the process?

As you progress through your life and career, it becomes all the more important to surpass faking part to actually making it happen!

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FAKE CONFIDENCE AND REAL CONFIDENCE

Real Confidence is a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s actual ability. Fake confidence is pretending to be good at something when in actual sense, you are not prepared enough. Truly confident people are givers. They do not hesitate to share their time, knowledge, resources with others. They are able to see best in others, overlook pettiness. Unlike those who fake confidence will be protective of what they know, and they tend to get defensive about anyone who asks questions.

Truly confident people don’t aim to be perfect instead they try new things, they accept responsibility for failures and be willing to learn from their mistakes. While others who are pretending to be confident, hide their mistakes and try to maintain their image of perfection. Unfortunately, in their quest to maintain their false image, they lose out on learning opportunities and will not be able to make any genuine connections.

Dharmesh Shah, founder of HubSpot lists these traits of truly confident people which is worth noting here: They take a stand not because they think they are always right

Focusing outward forces your brain to think more about the other person leading to interesting questions resulting in great conversation.

– but because they are not afraid to be wrong.

They listen ten times more than they speak.

They duck the spotlight, so it shines on others. They freely ask for help. They think, “Why not me?” They don’t put down other people.

They aren’t afraid to look silly. And they own their mistakes. They only seek approval from the people who really matter.

Once you learn, emulate and internalize these qualities, you can take off the mask and glow with true inner confidence!

In addition to the list of qualities mentioned above, there are a few actions that you can take to develop sure fire confidence.

DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS AND COMPETENCE

There is no shortcut to success. Even though faking works on short term, you cannot succeed with just high self -esteem and charisma alone.

Once you learn, emulate and internalize these qualities, you can take off the mask and glow with true inner confidence!

You need to have enough substance within you that your style should not matter anymore.

If you are planning to master any skill, then you need to dive deep and learn as much as you can. Research, find mentors, network, ask lot of questions. Get to know experts in your field, network and learn from them. Know your competitors if any. If you want to be truly confident at something, you cannot have just a passing knowledge. You have to step out of the amateur bubble. You need to practice hard and be so well versed that you could even teach about that subject! As the saying goes “when one teaches, two learn”! Once you reach that level of mastery there would be no need to pretend anymore!

Confidence cannot compensate for lack of competence. Develop your competence, confidence will follow!

FOCUS OUTWARD

If you are a self-conscious person, then Faking Confidence can backfire and here is how.

Say you are not feeling confident at doing something that you are supposed to do, the advice that reigns on internet is follow the norm –“Fake it till you make It” Your friends and your network advice you the same. And so, you try to project a confident image, you put on a mask and try your best to hide your insecurities.

Now have you noticed how you feel when you are trying to be not yourself? It does not fit your personality to pretend and will make you all the more self- conscious. Faking it makes you focus even more on just yourself and ironically by doing so, you become more selfconscious and more nervous! And less confident!

Faking it works great if you are able to curb your self-thoughts but sadly will not work for the most of us who actually need it the most. So what works?

Focusing away from self and paying attention to your audience. Rather than putting all your focus on yourself, try to direct your attention towards the person you are speaking with. What are they passionate about? What are their current interests? Is there any way you can help them?

Thinking more about others will take the pressure off from your head. By focusing outward, you will give others importance over you. You will ask relevant questions. By putting the limelight on them, you can feel at ease as you do not have to pretend anymore.

Focusing outward forces your brain to think more about the other person leading to interesting questions resulting in great conversation. And without faking it, you will be less self -conscious and also improving your social-abilities!

LOOK THE PART!

Let’s be clear that in an ideal scenario, what you wear should not define your value as a person and rather what you do should define your worth. This holds true for legends like Polo necked king of Apple who can make history through innovation or when you own the world’s largest social media network when you can pull off being seen in a grey T-Shirt every day. However, for the most of us, mere mortals whether fair or not, people judge by how we look and how appearance largely influences people’s perceptions of you. So, it is important to look your best in order to feel your best!

Imagine yourself as an actor practicing for a show. Now think about when your performance will be at the best – your performance will be normal during the regular practice, better during the dress rehearsal and you will be at your best at the final stage performance!

Similarly, as a leader, as an executive, as a teacher whatever you are, if you want to exude confidence, look the

part! Dressing sharply will give you the positive boost needed to make an impression! This is of course assuming that you have already mastered the skills because “Dress the Part” won’t be effective if you do not have the subject expertise.

POSTURE POWER

Your Body posture has a powerful influence not only in how others perceive you but also how you feel inwardly. While a hunched body, slump and rounded shoulders will show you are insecure and feeling low. If you want to feel self-assured and upbeat in any situation, try standing straight, shoulders back and hold your head high. Make proper eye contact and do not forget to smile! It will instantly uplift you and others around you.

To feel as confident as a super-hero, try a “Superman” or “Wonder-Woman” posture – standing with your feet apart, hands on your hips and shoulders wide! If you do not have time to practice the superhero posture, make sure you do not compress your posture.

Standing taller and straighter not only gives the “look” of confidence, it helps change your body physiology which goes to improve mood. You will feel positive and energized which will boost your confidence levels!

PRACTICE SELF-CARE

Self-Care is the best care. Once you take care of yourself, address the underlying concerns and adequately hone your skills and personality, then you are bound to feel good about yourself. If you are feeling insecure, think about what is causing that low selfesteem within you. Are there any negative self-beliefs that are holding you back from tapping into your best self? Try to heal those past issues through self-therapy if possible. Practice forgiveness Be grateful Count your blessings Indulge in some form of prayer or meditation everyday Help others Doing these will make you feel better about yourself. This leads to self-assurance in your

own abilities and that is where the true confidence emerges from!

Lastly stay away from insecure and negative people. Just like any other emotion, confidence is contagious. So, if you are around other confident people who are secure in their own skin, then they will boost your inner strength as well. “Confidence breeds confidence” and soon you will be brimming with genuine confidence and will shine from within!

When you try something new, either you fall, or you fly. But the beauty of true confidence is that now you know you will be Ok either way. You know how to fall with grace, pick yourself up and then fly high with humility!

With the newly developed true confidence you are now ready to face any challenges that comes your way!
