I am from the Midwest in the United States, brought up by two depression era parents who taught by example, the meaning of service. Thanks to their example, I have been a eucharistic minister, worked in a soup kitchen founded by my mother and served along side my mother on the board of directors for the Center for Street People. Even more than serving my community, I learned to reach out to individuals, the hopeless and helpless, the lost and the lonely, making family out of strangers. There will never come a day when there isn’t room for one more at my table and in my heart. Virginia Vallely Hensel
