FARMER'S ELECTRIFIED RURAL ALBERTA In the 1940s, when Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) declined the Alberta government's request to electrify rural areas citing high costs, Alberta farmers took initiative, forming co-operatives known as Rural Electrification Associations (REAs) to power their communities.

Fast forward to today, EQUS has emerged as Alberta's leading electricity expert and the largest member-owned utility in Canada. Prioritizing our members and their service, we focus on generating savings rather than profits for international shareholders, serving a diverse range of clients including businesses, homes, farms, subdivisions, and oil and gas developments. As a 100% Alberta-owned, rural-based electrical distribution co-operative, EQUS operates from offices in Innisfail, Claresholm, Medicine Hat, and Onoway, with our Corporate Office in Innisfail.

As Canada's largest member-owned utility, EQUS operates uniquely without profits or shareholders. Our members own the distribution system, ensuring it runs at-cost. We guarantee that EQUS members always pay less for their distribution, reflecting our commitment to affordability and member benefits.

Each member is assigned a dedicated Member Service Administrator, ensuring direct and personal assistance whenever needed.
