Ensure You Schedule Routine Check-Ups For Your Pets Most responsible pet owners understand that they take on a lifelong task the day they let the tiny kitten or puppy into their family circle – also the older pet they have rescued from a bad situation, or one they adopted from a facility for unwanted animals.

Also, very often the vet may indeed pick up a potential problem and then suggest the best course of action, treatment. Routine checkups for pets may vary from cats to dogs, and certainly from breed to breed and, especially, according to the pet’s age and general condition. It is advisable to immediately take the new, young pet to the vet – even at only a few weeks of age - for a general check-up, its first inoculations and to establish the contact with the vet that will start keeping a record of the pet, its development, its visits, and its general health as it develops and grows older.

Most often vets advise that young pets are to be checked at least once a year, and senior pets more regularly, for example, every nine or six months. By bringing in the pet regularly, you will ensure that every precaution is taken to ensure that underlying conditions are picked up early – and taken care of accordingly.

The good vet has the knowledge and experience of different pets of different ages and breeds to establish quickly whether or not there may be cause for

concern. For example, the vet’s trained eye will pick up issues that pet owners may not. Also, during these visits, the vet will look at those issues that typically should be addressed. For example: 

Teeth and Dental Care – This is very important, just as it is in humans.

Teeth need to be clean and healthy; if not, the bacteria in their mouth may be carried to other parts of their body and cause, for example, skin rash or infection. Not only that: bad teeth cause problems with chewing and eating – and ultimately their general health.

Skin and Coat of the Pet – There is every chance that the vet will carry out a check-in in this regard. A shiny coat and good skin means your animal is healthy – the opposite is also true.

Checking Joints and Bones – The vet, with a few basic tests, will establish whether your animal is a candidate for, say, arthritis, and prescribe either certain exercise, medicine or products to help prevent this or, at the very least, try and control it for as long as possible.

Vaccinations – During regular visits, the vet will make sure your animal gets the vaccinations that they need from time to time to help protect them against many adverse conditions.

Treatment of underlying Issues – Of course, the moment the vet, during a routine visit, picks up any potential problems, also with hips, or their heart, or failing eyesight, can have a good discussion with the owner to be sure the animal is kept happy, comfortable and cared for.
