Ensure You Schedule Routine Check-Ups For Your Pets Most responsible pet owners understand that they take on a lifelong task the day they let the tiny kitten or puppy into their family circle – also the older pet they have rescued from a bad situation, or one they adopted from a facility for unwanted animals. The pet becomes a family member and as such is treated with respect, is loved and cared for and cherished by all – just like a child or a parent in the home. This means its well-being is important: both physically and emotionally and otherwise. This further means that pet owners do everything possible to ensure no harm comes to it, that they are always on the lookout for anything that may cause the animal harm or distress. It also means doing everything in your power to ensure it stays happy and healthy. The best way, of course, to do this, is to make sure you schedule regular visits to the vet – also when the animal is not sick, very much like we do as humans with our annuals at the doctor, the dentist, the eye specialist or dermatologist, for example. During these checkups, the vet will quickly ascertain whether the animal is fit and healthy and not suffering from anything. Also, very often the vet may indeed pick up a potential problem and then suggest the best course of action, treatment. Routine checkups for pets may vary from cats to dogs, and certainly from breed to breed and, especially, according to the pet’s age and general condition. It is advisable to immediately take the new, young pet to the vet – even at only a few weeks of age - for a general check-up, its first inoculations and to establish the contact with the vet that will start keeping a record of the pet, its development, its visits, and its general health as it develops and grows older. Most often vets advise that young pets are to be checked at least once a year, and senior pets more regularly, for example, every nine or six months. By bringing in the pet regularly, you will ensure that every precaution is taken to ensure that underlying conditions are picked up early – and taken care of accordingly.
