A NOTE FROM KIRSTEN: Whew. The end of 2023. WHAT A RIDE. I feel like I’m a living meme right now. ;) But also, what an effing ride. It’s been a year of growth, learning, getting uncomfortable, loss, joy, all of it.

With the state of the world swirling around us, it has been hard on some days to find the light. It’s not an easy road that has been paved over the last 4 years. But as I look to 2024, I think its time to lay a new foundation and build the road we want to be on, so our community can forge forward in inspiration, motivation, and light.

Pantone (the universal authority on color) announced 2024’s color of the year was Peach Fuzz – “a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection’ and ‘that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.” It makes me think that collectively we just want to be held and told everything will be okay (but also with a side of Barbie-level camp and a pinch of rebellion!).

I’ve also recently found myself obsessed with the Netflix docu-series about the Blue Zones. The concept of the blue zones revolves around six areas of the world where humans live the longest, and the nine things that they all do and have in common (like live in walkable communities and…have wine at 5!).

Inspired by the blue zones project, I thought, how awesome would it be to create our own GREEN ZONES initiative (I’m a rebel, what can I say!) that promotes the cornerstones of what we believe can make our lives and our communities happier, healthier and more joyful places to be. CREATE the world we want to live in through what we all know best: Community, Human Connection, LOVE, Kindness and lots of Noise-making ;) >>>>

We’ve come up with four pillars as a North Star and roadmap for this little Highway to Well and as a company, we’re equally committed to leaning in and showing up, building out our calendar, campaigns and internal initiatives to align.

This is our year to shed the weight of the world off our shoulders and bring back the silly, the joyful, ‘just for the BLEEP of it’ stuff. Turn it UP, let it gooooo.

2. PAUSE Embrace relaxation and practice slowing down.

This year we’re rebelling against the idea that the most productive person ‘wins’ and focusing on how to calm our nervous system and bring more intention and attunement to our lives–and in turn the lives of others. Did someone say happy hour?

3. Find your PEOPLE Find them, embrace them, honor them. Human connection is always and forever at the forefront of what we do and what makes us THRIVE. This year we’re leaning HARD into prioritizing our people and our time together.

4. Have a PURPOSE Having a reason to get out of bed in the morning reinforces your sense of self and promotes happiness and longevity. In Japan, they call this your IKIGAI–where what you love, what you’re good at, what you can get paid for, and what the world needs all intersect. The concept can sometimes feel overwhelming, so this year we'll explore what it means and ways to find purpose in the every day. Big or small, we're committed to being ruthless in our pursuit of what sets our soul on fire AND gives us meaning–we hope you'll join us!

JAN 22 • 2:00PM-4:00PM PST One of the biggest topics and increasing needs in the fitness industry is for fitness professionals to understand how to best serve clients with various forms of dementia, Alzheimer's and other neurodivergent abilities. In this course chronic disease specialist, Christine Conti, will answer the question, ‘What do we need to know to better prepare us to lead these special populations?’ and will teach basic instructional skills.

With the learnings from this course, Pros will be better prepared to teach to members of these populations and be inspired to look at the needs within their community to discover opportunities for service within their scope of practice. TIPS + TRENDS To bring POUND’s GREEN ZONES initiative to life in your community!

Movement is critical to our overall health and wellness (we know this oh so well!), but making it FUN can be the difference between a short-lived resolution and a lasting habit.

Hosting a community event is commitment-free opportunity to introduce new people to POUND–the workout that doesn’t feel like ‘work’! Theme it around the new year, intention-setting and bringing more PLAY into the year, or just have a good ’ole fashioned POUND + Pour. If you’re partaking in dry January or worried about those that are, make it a mad tea party or partner with a local smoothie shop to sample their latest offerings. Remember, the more partners you involve + Posse you invite, the wider your reach will be within the community. If you’re licensed in Generation POUND, what a great time to PLAY with your kiddos and host a back to school release theme event!

We’re living in a world oversaturated with technology, social competition, and demands on our time that our bodies have not adapted to. Most of us are living with chronic stress, which we know scientifically leads to increased risk of heart disease and more. In addition to movement, think about other ways you can promote relaxation to your community; meditation, journaling, less social media, sharing mantra cards and just reassuring your Posse that productivity doesn’t always equal happiness.

Save the Date: Friday, March 1 is the Global Day of Unplugging. Wherever you are in the world, take this day and simply unplug and pause.

PEOPLE

If you’re a Pro you already understand the power of human connection. When we make the decision to surround ourselves with people that have shared values and that emit positive emotions, the ripple effect is profound. We are also innately social creatures and thrive with (the right) social connections and time. Resolution season is the biggest time for new faces in the classroom and an opportunity to spark new and lasting connections.

Remember to encourage interactions with new and existing students and honor the decision participants made to show up.

February is also a great time to use the themes of love and connection to invite friends and make new ones.

Whether its a standing rule or something you can open up during these times, the offer to bring a first-time friend for free increases the energy in your class and introduces your class to a new Posse member to love.
