WELCOME to summer. We have decided to celebrate the arrival of the season of light nights and soaring temperatures, with a magazine devoted to its hazy, lazy days. Beaches, barbecues and big smiles can be said to sum up this time of year as everyone is able to catch a glimpse of sun and enjoy getting out and about without adding layer after layer of clothing. With the British weather, it’s always hard to predict exactly what the coming weeks will hold - except to say they will be unpredictable. Even so, we are lucky enough to live in a part of Britain which is blessed with some of the country’s best weather and nicest coastline.
That makes for a very nice combination which comes into its own each summer. We hope our magazine will help you to enjoy the most of this special time. We have packed it with ideas and tips about how to get the best of time ahead whether you’re spending it close to home or heading further afield. We hope you enjoy it just as much as you told us you enjoyed our first magazine last Christmas. So, bring on the sun cream, bring on the ice cream and bring on the strawberries and cream. Have a tan-tastic time!

Totally timeless interiors With interiors inspiration all around us, it can be easy to get lost in a stream of Insta-envy and full to the brim Pinterest boards, then opt for fail-safe neutrals when it comes to dressing our homes. So, how do you create the timeless look, that won’t become dated and out of fashion when the next interiors craze hits the living room runway?
Diana Civil: Interior Stylist, Producer and Art Director Mid-century rules the roost: Furniture trends come and go but Mid Century Style has become one of our design staples. Originally designed for the smaller post war homes, its easy to see why now, with many of us living in compact urban spaces, ‘mid-century modern’ with its smaller scale, simple streamlined outlines, and low silhouettes has become an obsession and is definitely ruling the roost. The key to its success is its versatility - pieces can sit comfortably in a variety of interiors from pared back Scandinavian style with pale wood or ply pieces teamed with organic finishes, they can take on a ‘Mad Men’ vibe teaming leather upholstery with burnished metals, glass and sculptural lighting, or, in sharp contrast, darker wood frames or non-traditional materials such as plastic and vinyl paired with retro furnishings to create a bold colourful look. If you’re not sure how to recreate the look –take a leaf from many of the coolest restaurants and hotels around, as mid-century is definitely the buzzword for many of their interior styles and use this as a starting point for deciding a look you love. Don’t try to faithfully recreate a replica of past times – but instead choose pieces you love and are practical for your home and your lifestyle – proportions can be quite small so if you want a big Lazyboy armchair for your lounge then a midcentury modern chair may not suit so have a rethink about where it can work for you in your home. For fabulous pieces inspired by key designers of the era, Homesense are bang on trend. Keep your eyes peeled in store as they often have amazing pieces that echo the iconic pieces from the era at a fraction of the price – egg chairs, Barcelona-style chairs, and a whole host of key pieces inspired by the iconic

Home & Fashion designers of the time such as Herman Miller, Knoll and Vitra. Not sure what to buy? - One large piece can set the tone for the look and create a focal point in your room such as a sofa, lounge chair, sideboard or cocktail cabinet. Use the piece as a starting point for the look and build the style of your room around it, keeping within a colour range and avoiding too many patterns. Functional, stylish and versatile, it has become a truly timeless look. Clean and crisp and even: If there’s one thing in your home that will stand the test of time its definitely white bedlinen. It works in every style of bedroom, it’s guaranteed to add a fresh, light and airy look and what’s more it goes with everything – it’s a no fail design solution! Not only does white bedlinen
brighten up the gloomiest of rooms – it makes a room feel calm and less cluttered and if you still want colour and pattern you can add throws and cushions with the seasons to change the look in an instant. As white bedlinen is a timeless classic it’s worth getting something that will stand the test of time on the quality front and can be washed at higher temperatures keeping it whiter than white. Look for the best thread count possible - the higher thread counts the better the look and the more indulgent it will feel. Many people shy away from white, worrying about keeping it looking at its best but good quality linen is easy to keep clean and if you always buy white you can mix and match the styles – no more trying to find the matching pillowcases! port of call to find white linens – although now I’ve shared my top design secret…I’ll have to be quicker off the mark to grab the bargains.
Cassandra Lisa Marie Doyle: Interior stylist and trend researcher, with a background in interior architecture Lay the neutral foundations: You can rarely go wrong with a neutral backdrop, especially if you don’t want to commit to statement wallpaper or a bold trending colour. Painting rooms white is a great way to instantly freshen up a space and make
Home & Fashion small rooms feel bigger but can lack personality and warmth. A good alternative which is equally as timeless is to opt for sage. It works perfectly in a bedroom and you can curate your space using a muted colour palette. Use velvet for a statement in soft furnishing. Add layers and new dimensions to the overall look, by switching up the colour scheme of your bed linen and changing art work prints in frames to keep the look current. Mix and match: It’s easy to buy into new season trends by simply updating the accessories in your living space. Opt for a cream or grey sofa and you can quickly change up the look with cushions. From floaty and floral, glitz and glam, to bold monochrome, you can easily tap into trends without feeling too heavily invested. Space and style match: When choosing your interiors, it is always best to take direction from your home as a starting point. The easiest way to create a timeless look is to go with what feels like it’s always lived in the space. That’s not to say a country cottage can’t be given a millennial makeover, but mixing with a vintage-style trunk, eclectic frames and faux florals will feel more at home and natural than palms and tropicals. Usually one of the most blank spaces in homes, bathrooms are a great place to experiment with coloured accessories.
Aurelien Farjon: Stylist and set designer Patterns on repeat: Pattern on pattern is a good thing. The key is to stick to a strict colour
Colour pop: Table lamp £20.00, Red trinket box £29.99, Neon mug £3.99, Lemon pouffe £39.99, Sea kelp duvet set £34.99, Purple silk cushion £12.99, Red velvet cushion £19.99, Tangerine velvet cushion £12.99, Orange rug £49.99
scheme to tie it all in (so it doesn’t look the wrong kind of chaotic). Mix different types i.e. graphics/floral/typography in groups of pastels, bold colours or monochrome. Colour pop: A colour pop is always a good idea in a room. Be it lampshade, a stool, a couple of picture frames, this little something that will grab your eye first, to slowly let you know to take in the rest of the room after. Rewind the times: A timeless classic side table is always a good idea, in gold/white/grey. It will go with most styles, and is multi functional from a cup of tea by the side of the sofa or moved to the centre of the room to supporting a tray of cocktails for that wow factor! How to stay safe in the sun
According to statistics Bognor Regis is the most sunniest town in the UK. So whether you are staying at home, or flying abroad for your summer this year, we have the best ways to stay safe in the sunshine.
The science bit The sun gives off ultraviolet (UV) light that damages your skin and causes sunburn. Over time, these rays can lead to wrinkles, dark spots, and other problem areas. The result: You can add years to your looks. Research shows that UV exposure is the reason behind 80 per cent of your skin’s aging.
Good versus bad Vitamin D is a fat-soluble essential vitamin that plays multiple roles in the body. In addition to maintaining bone health, vitamin D can protect against heart disease, diabetes, and cancers of the breast, prostate, and colon. Our natural rhythm is programmed for us to be outdoors while the sun is shining, and in bed at night. In addition to
producing vitamin D, exposure to bright sunlight interacts with our pineal gland and regulates melatonin production, which influences our sleep cycles. While exposure to sunlight has its health benefits, UV radiation from the sun can also have harmful effects, contributing to skin damage including; Sunburn, aging, Akin cancer, Eye diseases, including cancer, cataracts, agerelated macular degeneration, and eye growths. Skin cancer is the most common cancer worldwide, and the three main forms of skin cancer (melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma) are largely attributed to excess UV radiation.
synthesis of vitamin D. Use a mineral-based sunscreen and/or UPF-rated clothing to protect yourself during longer sun exposures. Use UV-blocking sunglasses to protect your eyes with brief unprotected eye exposures. Consume antioxidant-rich foods such as turmeric, artichoke, deeply pigmented fruits (such as purple or red grapes, blueberries), celery, parsley, and dark chocolate to help protect against skin cancer Consult with a dermatologist if you have new growths on your skin, a sore that doesn’t heal, or a mole or other skin lesion that changes in size, shape, or colour.

The sky is the limit with outdoor yoga and pilates Post Newspapers reporter Kelly Wickham chatted exclusively to Stephanie and Konrad Lukaszewicz about their pilates and yoga business, Skybody.
How did Skybody come about? Skybody is Stephanie Konrad Yoga Body which began with our shared love of teaching fun, mindful and effective workouts to suit everybody. Our love for each other started after meeting working as trainers at the gym and our passionate approach for creating creative workouts drew us together. We fell in love during our yoga teacher training and married in August 2016.
We teach pilates and yoga our way - a fun laid back modern approach to a chilled play-list, our classes bring together like minded awesome people from the local community, all with different goals and fitness levels but all there as they love these style of workouts. Describe what yoga and pilates are? What’s the difference? They’re both amazing disciplines that greatly benefit muscular
endurance, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular. It can be gentle or very challenging which is why we love and specialise in both. Pilates is the ultimate core and body conditioning workout with very precise specific exercises that create balance across the body. Yoga is the more mindful discipline and we aim to create a relaxed welcoming environment giving an all over yoga workout
Get beach ready now! Lose up to 40% of your ‘problem area’ for summer! We’ve had our first, wonderful burst of warm weather and I’m sure many of you are suddenly realising that the days of large, forgiving winter woolies are gone. Now we face the looming stress of donning our summer wardrobe. While diet and exercise have proven inadequate for ‘spot reduction’ of our problem areas, science has come to the rescue. After extensive clinical trials, it is proven that freezing kills fat cells! And, because fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than other bodily tissues, no damage is done to the surrounding areas. Almost 2 years ago, CryoSculpt UK opened in Chichester and is now based at The Beauty Rooms, Westgate. Most people will require 2 - 3 treatments in any given ‘problem’ area and - because it can take up to 12 weeks for the full effects to show - now is the ideal time to get ready for summer! They are offering 50% off treatments for the entire month of June to encourage people to get started.

Lifestyle often flowing between postures, longer more relaxed holds will greatly improve flexibility and mobility. We always complete our practise with Savasanna relaxation and meditation. What are the benefits of yoga and pilates? They’re incredibly kind workouts for the body and mind, an hour for you leaving you feeling relaxed, de-stressed, taller and worked out. We often spend our lives constantly rushing around not able to be present, in the moment. Yoga and pilates require us to focus thus helping us feel good whilst seeing amazing weight loss, body defining results, increased flexibility and injury rehab - they’re not ‘easy’ they’re the ultimate core workouts. What are your outside hiit and sculpt classes? Sculpt and outside hiit are also our own workout style that provide amazing results for our clients. They’re for those wanting a more intense workout with the benefits of pilates and yoga. Sculpt is a lively fusion of cardio and intense pilates to define and streamline the body, often using resistance bands. Us ladies love
it, we sweat and tone to dance and house music. Outside hiit is as intense as workouts get - The ultimate fat burning session in the fresh air. We do interval training working with the elements at the park and on our fantastic Bognor Regis beach. Lots of laughs make this hard work fun! We use pilates and yoga techniques in hiit and finish with a yoga cool down stretch with a sea view. What about medical conditions? We specialise in exercise for GP medical referral patients and ante and post natal mums. Referred to by doctors, physios
and chiropractors worldwide, medical conditions are greatly improved with a specific prescription of pilates and yoga to help lower blood pressure, diabetes management, weight loss, osteoporosis, arthritis, back pain and conditions (including scoliosis and kyphosis), mental health conditions and, simply, feeling fitter and healthier. What are the benefits of doing outside classes? We aim to keep everything natural including nutrition, health and wellness. So we love outside workouts. We’re so lucky to be near the beach. Clients tell us that, after being inside all day, they enjoy escaping outside for hiit and in the summer yoga and pilates. Benefits include breathing in fresh air, absorbing natural vitamin D, burning more energy outside as we use and move our entire body. Outside sessions leave them feeling positive and revitalised.

Improve your hayfever naturally this summer!
H
ayfever is not a condition to be sneezed at! Seriously, it really can be a bore. We all look forward to summer, then we get a bit of good weather and some of us start sneezing our heads off. It can be really miserable and make you feel so irritable and drained. There are many things that could help ease your symptoms, and one of the things that’s important to remember is that the stronger your immune system, the less likely you are to get that ‘dragged through a hedge backwards’ feeling! You know - the blood shot eyes, the streaming nose, the itchy razor throat. Not pleasant for anyone. Then you lay in bed at night all bunged up as if you have the
worst cold ever. What happens if the only answer is to pump your body full of drugs each summer season, with possibly harmful side effects? That, for sure, is not the only solution. The best thing you can do is get your body strong and focus on building up your immunity. It would do you no harm at all to give this juicing recipe a go every day for two weeks and see if it makes any difference. This is an antihistamine super shot and its very simple. All you need is a juicer, some ginger root (6cm chunk), half an unwaxed lemon, one large apple and a small handful of ice cubes. Not only does this help with the histamine, but it’s a delicious, refreshing zingy summer drink. Another thing that may help daily is bee-pollen,
16
or bee propolis, as both are super immune boosting. The bee propolis has antibiotic and antimicrobial properties. Because propolis is high in the vitamin B complex vitamins, has significant amounts of vitamin C, and contains vitamin E, it naturally boosts the immune system. High levels of antioxidants are also found in propolis and these also give our natural immune system functions a boost, as well as doing the same for the bees! Because of its ability to enhance the function of the immune system, propolis is a great treatment for cold and flu, hayfever symptoms and even food poisoning. It can be taken in the form of capsules or as a tincture and is easy to obtain. Herbs and foods that can be really beneficial are things like turmeric, onions, liquorice and nettle teas and plenty of garlic. Who cares if you stink, at least you will feel good! There are also foods that you should avoid, such as cow’s milk and other dairy products as they can increase the production of mucus in the respiratory tract and exacerbate hay fever symptoms and increase nasal congestion. Try alternatives such as rice, almond, quinoa and coconut milks. It’s better to try the natural ways first to see if they help! You will feel much better for it.

Water fab way to keep hounds healthy ’n happy Kelly and Liam’s delight as Bognor canine pool business celebrates fourth birthday!
P
ooches rarely paws for thought when they have the chance to take a relaxing dip in the Splash Hounds doggie pool. And as the Bognor business gears up to celebrate its fourth anniversary, the owners say they have never been busier with more and more dog owners taking advantage of the benefits of hounds taking a dip in the fully-heated pool. Splash Hounds marks its birthday on June 30th and there is sure to be balloons, treats and canine cake to acknowledge the anniversary. “It’s been a whirlwind but an enjoyable one,” says joint owner Kelly, who runs the business with partner Liam. “Obviously we fell in love with the idea of a pool for dogs and the business that surrounds it, but not in our wildest dreams could we have imagined quite how popular it has become. “We are a family business and the dogs and their owners are part of that extended family. We love seeing the dogs having fun and knowing there is a huge amount of benefits. The
four years since we opened for business have flown by. Here’s to a good few more years!” Dogs benefit on many levels from a spell in the water. The hydrotherapy aspects of swimming are plentiful, with easing of arthritic problems a major factor, too. A half-hour swimming session is excellent for pooches recovering from an injury or even surgery and can help them lose weight as well. It can also help to improve conditions such as arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, ligament damage and muscle strain. One client took to Facebook to say: “Love Splash Hounds! They have life jackets for every size dog and you can go in with them. Dogs are encouraged but not forced and it noticeably helps our elderly springer spaniel’s joints. It is a super friendly place!” Liam says he never tires of seeing dogs enjoying their swim and overcoming health issues. He added: “There are so many benefits, it’s definitely a ‘win, win’ for the dogs and their owners, who enjoy the sessions just as much as their beloved pets. “Therapeutic exercise carried out in warm water gives increased circulation to muscles, increased joint flexibility and reduced joint pain. “Hydrotherapy is used as a non-weight bearing exercise for your dog to help recovery from surgery or injury, or to improve conditions such as arthritis, hip
18
and elbow dysplasia, ligament damage and muscle strain. It can also be used to strengthen muscles and improve fitness levels.” You might like to visit (wheelchair access) simply to give your faithful friend some exercise. A five-minute swim is the equivalent to a 20-minute walk, so a 30 minute swim session is the same as a two-hour walk. Prices are reasonable, too - just £11 per dog for a 30-minute swim PLUS you can obtain discounts for more than one dog who has the same owner. Call 01243 210244 or email info@splashhounds.co.uk to find out more about opening times, prices and to make an appointment.

Spicy Sesame Chicken Wings 1. Toast the sesame seeds in a frying pan until lightly golden, then transfer to a bowl. In the same pan, toast the cumin and coriander seeds until fragrant. Now combine all the spices, sesame seeds and some seasoning in a mini food processor or pestle and mortar and blend to a coarse mix. 2. Mix the lemon juice, olive oil and tahini paste and rub all over the chicken wings. Leave to marinate in the fridge for 1 hour. 3. Reserve 1 tablespoon of the dukkah mix which you just made in the food processor and sprinkle the rest over the wings with 1 teaspoon salt. Toss to coat, and leave for up to 24 hours in the fridge.
Ingredients:
4. Light the barbecue and wait until the coals are covered with a thin layer of white ash, which means it is hot enough to cook. Barbecue the wings, turning, for 25-30 minutes until charred and cooked through (or roast in the oven for 45-50 minutes at 200C/ 180C fan/gas 6). Transfer the wings to a big platter. Scatter over the reserved dukkah, the pomegranate seeds and coriander leaves, and serve with lemon wedges.

It’s time to let the Boston Tea Party commence!
C
hampagne corks popped, delicate and delicious canapés were served and a party atmosphere prevailed as Boston Tea Party, Chichester’s newest cafe, opened its doors for its official launch bash. And the funky BTP eatery is very much now open for business and expecting a roaring trade at its impressive premises in the city’s Baffins Lane. Marketing manager Ben Hibbard and his hard-working and affable team were on hand to greet guests who were treated to drinks and nibbles as they got the chance
to see exactly what diners can expect. The BTP chain started in Bristol around 23 years ago, explains Ben, and now boasts 22 venues dotted over the country. The name comes from the act of rebellion in the USA in 1773 and was chosen by the original owners all those years ago; and the name stuck. Classically British (despite the name) BTP says the mission is “to serve simply and well-prepared food and drinks made with great ingredients, skill and love. Ethically sourced, affordable, feel-good, great value, healthy and excellent quality – made onsite every day”. Now BTP is open in Chichester and Ben says he is delighted with the response so far -- with more of the same expected! He added: “We’ve been looking to open in Chichester for some time; we saw a gap in the market and it’s great to see we are now open and welcoming customers. We think
Boston Tea Party and Chichester are a great fit. The feedback we have been given has been very encouraging indeed.” And Ben adds: “We’re hoping fo attract a wide range of customers, from mums with buggies to students, and we welcome dogs, too!” Boasting a breakfast and brunch menu that declares “everything served all day” it is easy to see why great things are expected of BTP. The choice is fantastic; ranging from burgers to chorizo hash to tempting salads and mouthwatering homemade cakes with sustainable ingredients.
NOW OPEN! Here at BTP we are on a mission to serve simply and well-prepared food and drinks made with great ingredients, skill and love. Ethically sourced, affordable, feel-good, great value, healthy and excellent quality – made onsite every day. Why it is easy to sing the praises of popular pub Enjoy a warm welcome from Jan and her friendly team… and relish great food and music too
R
egular customers are happy to make a song and dance of just how good a hostelry the Royal Oak happens to be - and they have every right to sing the praises of what we know best as the Pink Pub. Locals and visitors alike have the chance to do so with gusto come the end of July when the pub’s popular landlady Jan Cattermole hosts an evening of music provided by a skiffle band. It’s all been organised to help celebrate RAF100, which marks a century since the formation of the country’s air force held on July 28. Jan explains: “It’s shaping up to be a night to remember and already a lot of people have made a date in their diaries. It’d be great to see as many people as
possible enjoying themselves but, at the same time, raising funds and awareness of the RAF 100 events.” Aside from the excitement building for the big night, it’s business as usual at the Pink Pub, which is seen very much as a traditional English hostelry complete with friendly staff and locals ensuring a memorable time for all. Jan adds: “Our customers do us proud, they really do. Everyone gets a warm welcome when they come through the door and it really can make a difference.” While the Pink Pub is known for its affable atmosphere it is also just as well known for its delicious food -- with the famous Sunday roast dinners receiving especially good reviews. The menu offers diners a mouth-
watering selection. Starters range from sautéed garlic mushrooms to prawn cocktail, while main dishes include grilled sirloin steak and homemade lasagne. Rest assured there is a wide variety of options and all at very competitive prices. Meanwhile Jan is reminding people that they keep up to date on what’s happening at the Pink Pub by checking the Facebook page. She adds: “We work hard to deliver a fabulous customer experience and so when that is recognised by great reviews it is very pleasing indeed.” So, what are you waiting for? Pop in and see Jan and her friendly team! Find the very distinctive Pink Pub at 336 Chichester Road, Bognor Regis PO21 5JF. Phone: 01243 821002

Fox at Felpham’s fantastic
T
he Fox at Felpham isn’t so much a hidden treasure, more of a well-known treasure. Yes, it is tucked away in the sleepy village but that hardly constitutes “hidden” does it? What isn’t in doubt, however, is that the pub is a quintessentially English jewel; a gem of a pub, festooned with all the adornments best loved in such traditional hostelries: super ales, lovely hosts, great food and a warm welcome. It should come as no surprise that The Fox is fantastic! Husband and wife team, Ali and Andy Hirons, took over the 18th century pub 12 years ago. Their acquisition of the popular hostelry came about after they fell in love with it. The couple lived around the corner, used it as their local and enjoyed the charm, character and community at the village local. So, they bought it! These days the historic Fox, a veritable picture postcard of a public house, is a flourishing business with a hospitable greeting ready and waiting for regulars and newcomers alike. Affable Ali explains: “It’s all about the customers. It’s a lovely pub and we have lovely people who visit. We strive to make it a
memorable visit each and every time and that comes very much as a team effort.” Visit on a sunny day and take advantage of the fabulously spacious and tranquil beer garden. Indeed, many do. And with the beach at Felpham just a short stroll, many visitors use the pub as an HQ; taking refreshment and sustenance in between dips in the sea or relaxing walks on the sand.
Ali adds: “It’s a great sight to see couples, families and friends all enjoying some leisure time in the sunshine in our beer garden, whether it’s a long, cool drink or perhaps a bite to eat.” Talking of the food, the Fox is known for its tasty offerings just as much as its wide range of wellkept ales (examples of which are Sharpe’s Sea Fury, Sambrookes Wandle Ale and Darmoor Jail Ale) and quality wines. Andy does a lot of the cooking and is known for his delicious home-made pies and curries and there is some excellent fish dishes (think Smoked Haddock Mornay, Shoreham Seabass Fillet) to choose from, too. The bar menu boasts the familiar favourites such as fish and chips and ham, egg and chips. And as you might expect from such a fine establishment, diners can also choose from a selection of vegetarian, vegan and glutenfree options.

We are all one big family at Chalcraft Hall…
C
halcraft Hall Care Home manager Sara Whitworth is someone whose job is very much a labour of love. That much is evident when you hear her speak so passionately about the residents at the North Bersted home. Sara oversees the day-to-day running of the care home which considers its patients as very much part of “one big family”. That family consists of 20 folks living with dementia as well as the 25 caring staff members who see to their every need Sara explains: “We have a busy diary with the emphasis very much on maintaining a homefrom-home atmosphere. Twice a week we have musicians come in then we have singalongs with music right through from the 50s to the 80s, which is very popular. “The residents love singing along to the songs. They know all the words. We’re certainly not a home where the residents sit around bored all day.” “Relatives often join us for the activities, and these also includes quizzes, bingo and periods of time for reminiscences.” Sara’s comments come after the home made substantial investment to improve the care on offer. She adds: “It’s all about creating the best first impression we can. The old drive was deteriorating and required upgrading, which we are always committed to doing here. Replacing it has opened up the entrance to the home and made it safer and easier for visitors.
“We listened to feedback from our residents’ relatives about the need to improve the old entrance. It took three months from its planning to completion, but it was well worth the effort.” But, as important as initial impressions are, Sara is equally aware standards inside the home must be maintained to a high standard as well. As an independently owned business, they are able to devote themselves to help those who live at the home to enjoy their lives and promote choices and control throughout every aspect they are engaged with. They have flexibility to adapt their work to suit the needs of their residents while still maintaining the high level of care and attention. With 20 private bedrooms, and day and respite care available, Chalcraft Hall provides the best possible care, whether continually or occasionally. This specialisation ensures the home’s staff understand how best to provide the care and

one-to-one support required for patients with dementia. Sara said: “People with dementia can have sensory issues and challenging behaviour but all of these are manageable – and that’s what we specialise in every day. “We have got a fabulous relationship with our relatives and we put them first. We always listen to them and respecting their wishes and beliefs. The home has 20 tastefully decorated bedrooms, a lounge and a dining room. While outside, the large and welltended garden is also a source of pleasure for residents when the weather allows. All these amenities add up to an enjoyable atmosphere for residents, and their visitors, to enjoy. More information: www. chalcrafthall.co.uk or phone 01243 821368. Holiday Checklist Off on your holidays but not sure what to pack? Sitting on your suitcase and still unable to zip it up? Follow this guide to travel light but ensure you have all the essentials.
Absolute essentials
What not to wear
Check your passport. This sounds really obvious, but a lot of us can’t remember where our ‘safe place’ is and get in a panic when it comes to finding it. Don’t forget to check the expiration date too, some countries require visa’s or you need a minimum number of months left on your passport.
If you’re off somewhere hot, it’s easier to plan your day to day outfits. Pick out your clothes from your wardrobe and lay them out in days, add in your underwear and sleepwear and it’s job done! If you’re staying somewhere with washing facilities, you can almost half your clothes instantly. Find out if your accommodation supplies towels too, as this can cut down on vital packing space.
Make sure you know ahead of any vaccinations or visa’s you need and book that all important travel insurance. A lot of people think it’s a waste of money, but some bank’s offer it free if you’re a current account holder. Remember all the essentials including currency, accommodation details, excursion references or bookings, plug adapters, prescribed medication, driving licence and your EHIC (health) card for European destinations.
Travelling somewhere cold or wet can be more tricky as you need to be prepared for all types of conditions, so wear some bulkier clothing travelling to free up space in your suitcase and pack extras of socks and gloves so you have dry spares. Also don’t forget if you tightly roll clothing, you can fit more in and with fewer creases at the other end!
Not forgetting… Not all is lost
Remember your camera. Holiday’s are often once in a lifetime experiences and you’ll want to capture every moment to treasure forever. If space is an issue make sure you have storage left on your mobile for photos. Consider a small first aid kit to pack, including insect repellent, after sun, blister plasters and don’t forget your glasses or contact lenses. Keep jewellery to a minimum in case of loss or theft.
Unless your vacation somewhere like the Outer Hebrides or the Amazon Rainforest, remember that most places are used to civilisation and a lot of things you forget can be picked up in your destinations shops or if you notice before, even at the airport.
Write a list of everything you need and tick it as you pop it in the suitcase.

How to throw the perfect Summer garden party Setting the scene If you’re lacking in the chair department, and neighbours aren’t being very neighbourly by lending some out, then throw a few picnic blankets on the lawn for guests to laze upon. Keep old scraps of fabric or buy some off cuts and make your own summery bunting to decorate
the area. Try a bucket full of ice in the shade with bottles of sunscreen and water in to encourage your friends to stay safe in the hot weather and don’t forget, if the party is going on to the evening, grab some lanterns, tea lights and solar lights for the garden.
Drink One of the most important ingredients to your garden party is drinks. Grab a mini fridge and put some beers to chill and then begin to make summery cocktails and punches. If you’re not very creative, grab a bottle of Pimms and mix with slices of strawberry, lemon, cucumber, mint and ice in a big
Food If you’re lacking the energy to dust down the barbecue and the thought of cleaning the grill afterwards is an exhausting one, then stick to buffet style food on a table. Avoid any food which is prone to becoming inedible in hot weather. Try to stick to bowls of
fruit and savoury snacks, such as cheese straws, olives, mixed nuts and crisps. A key essential is a bin to hand, to help keep your garden tidy and minimise the clean up the next day. To avoid breakages try a stack of disposable plates, cutlery and napkins.

Shea: Now let’s see Lions roar again…
RAY NUNN
Pagham chairman Tony Shea says the club are keenly anticipating the new season ahead — and have new faces to boost the Lions’ fortunes. Shea has sanctioned a swoop for lively attacker George Gaskin as joint bosses Richie Helens and Tom Simmons look to improve on the third place finish in the SCFL Premier division last season. Hawywards Heath took the title, while Three Bridges came in second. And former frontman Scott Murfin could also be set to reacquaint himself with his old stomping ground with a switch from Chichester City being discussed. Tony said: “Finishing third was a magnificent effort all round. We pushed all the way at the top of the season was admirable. Of course we had more than 50 goals from Dan Simmonds which is remarkable and remember he only started playing regularly in October. So, we’re very much looking forward to the new season.” Pagham players will start pre-season training next month with a new mood of optimism running through the club.
