Give us the support we need BY RUTH SCAMMELL ruth.scammell@sussexpost.co.uk A CHICHESTER woman who suffers from congenital muscular dystrophy is calling for increasing support for patients. Lizzie Baily, 34, pictured on page seven, is one of those campaigning for improvements for hospital admissions
for people with conditions such as hers. It comes as a leading clinician reported that emergency hospital admissions for people with muscle-wasting conditions in London and the South East have been dramatically reduced over the last five years and the readmission rate halved, following a series of improvements introduced by the NHS and Muscular Dystrophy UK. However, the charity has said that

further improvements could be made if the NHS invested in a care advisor for the South East, who could help people get the right care that keeps them well and out of hospital. THere are 5,000 people living with neuromuscular conditions in Kent, Sussex and Surrey. Lizzie said: "THe right support is so important and a care advisor could go a long way to helping coordinate it.
"I feel that nobody locally has knowledge of my condition, especially social workers and the community nursing team. "If I was admitted to hospital, I would want to be in contact with the staff from the Royal Brompton Hospital as soon as possible, as they provide my excellent respiratory care, but I'd need someone to make sure that does happen."
