with litter, dog fouling and fly tipping across the area. THe proposals, if approved, would see greater advertising, social media campaigns to raise awareness as well as the introduction of fixed penalty notices which would be issued to people caught dropping litter. It comes following complaints from the public at the level of litter and mess across the area.
THe council currently spends £1m a year on cleaning the district. And in a litter pick that took place over one day in June, 1,478 pieces of litter were picked up, which included food wrappers, receipts, bottles and crisp packets. It also included an incredible 1,221 cigarette butts. Meanwhile, 665 bags of litter were also collected on the district council's patch
of the A27. Councillor Roger Barrow, cabinet member for contract services at Chichester District Council, said: "THe council has been listening to people. One of today's major concerns appears to be litter, fly tipping and dog fouling. "We decided the time has come to do something about it." Continued on page seven
