Wednesday market renewed BY RUTH SCAMMELL ruth.scammell@sussexpost.co.uk THE WEEKLY market which was moved to Chichester's city centre has been renewed for a further two years - despite mixed reviews. THe first Wednesday market began trading in the precinct of North and East Streets in August last year on a
trial basis, with the Saturday market continuing to run at the Cattle Market car park. Now, members of Chichester District Council's cabinet have renewed street trading consent for a further two years. A public consultation took place involving city centre businesses, market traders and visitors and residents, with mixed reviews. Many shop owners raised concerns
about the height of the stalls as they block shopfronts with 64.9 per cent of businesses saying they felt that the market did not meet the criteria of a high quality, artisan market. Cllr John Connor said: "Residents were generally positive about the market. "THere were some comments that the market livens up the city and is convenient. "THere was a bit of negative feedback
such as obstructing shop fronts. "In summary, businesses were slightly unsatisfied with the quality and position of the market. "THe traders were unanimous in the view that they will continue to attend the market as long as it stays in the city centre.
