Crunch time for our schools BY RUTH SCAMMELL ruth.scammell@sussexpost.co.uk SCHOOLS have reached breaking point in the ongoing funding crisis across the country. Directors from Bishop Luffa School in Chichester have visited the school to speak to students about the impact of the current financial crisis facing schools.
THe Worthless West Sussex campaign says that in real terms, per pupil funding is decreasing by approximately eight per cent while pupil numbers are increasing significantly. Some schools have even been asking parents for additional financial contributions. Headteacher Nick Taunt said: "THe directors asked to come in to show their support for the school and to help
raise awareness of the issues of school funding. "THis is part of the campaign to help parents and the government to understand just how seriously the cuts in education are biting. "THe government says there's more money in education than ever before but that's because there are more children than ever before and because of inflation which contributes to that.
"Schools have been making savings for many years. "THere's nothing left to meet these cuts other than making severe cuts. "THey do affect children. THis isn't just about us but I feel passionately that people need to know what is happening in all of our schools, particularly in a very low funded authority like West Sussex."
