Accident waiting to happen BY RUTH SCAMMELL ruth.scammell@sussexpost.co.uk ACTION must be taken now to prevent further accidents on our city's dangerous pavements, one district councillor has said. Concerns have been raised after many elderly people have suffered broken bones after tripping on uneven
pavement slabs in the city centre. THe area around North Street is believed to be of particular concern. THe pavements are the responsibility of West Sussex County Council. Cllr Richard Plowman raised the issue at a full council meeting of Chichester District Council this week, saying that it was becoming a regular problem, with a number of elderly people having had accidents.
He said: "Currently, they are running at four accidents a week on the streets. "I know that it's the responsibility of West Sussex County Council but it will affect and it is affecting the whole of Chichester. "We have an elderly population. We had a 91-year-old lady who broke her wrist. "Another lady broke her knees. Actually, I think the pressure on the

NHS would be reduced if we actually did something about the pavements. "I'm asking if, perhaps as a matter of urgency, we can have a look at this because it is causing a lot of problems.
