AN EVENT in Priory Park has been cancelled after a licensing objection was made by nearby residents. THe Rum and Reggae Festival was due to take place tomorrow but organisers had to cancel the event on Monday. Nearby residents have said that there

were incidents occurring outside the park after the recent Oktoberfest event. Officers attended the scene in Priory Road at 10.28pm on Saturday, October 13, where there had been a confrontation between a group of people. A 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman sustained injuries to their faces and heads and were taken to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, but discharged themselves before receiving treatment.

A 28-year-old man from Wick was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and later released under investigation. A spokesperson for the Rum and Reggae Festival said: "Due to a licensing objection from nearby park residents, we have been forced to postpone the Rum and Reggae Festival in Priory Park, Chichester, which was due to take place this Saturday. "We have contacted other venues to

Adapting Homes for Im Mobility and Accessi host our event (Goodwood and University of Chichester Student Union), but unfortunately none are available at this late notice. "We are devastated to postpone the event but are already working hard to confirm a new date in Chichester for early next year. We’ve thrown many successful Rum and Reggae festivals and the experience of our customers remains a top priority." See page three
