We deserve better for A27 BY RUTH SCAMMELL ruth.scammell@sussexpost.co.uk A GROUP fighting for improvements to the A27 has mounted pressure on the government to release the results of its long awaited public consultation. As reported in The Chichester Post, MP Andrew Tyrie wrote to Chris Grayling, the Secretary of State for Transport last
week, urging him to release the results immediately. But that is yet to happen. Now, Chichester Deserves Better has backed Mr Tyrie's letter but insisted that a further consultation takes place on Highways England's preferred route, as it is likely they will announce that once the results of the consultation are released. In the letter, Chichester's MP said that the results must be published to

help win back the public's trust and to provide transparency, as so many people have lost faith in the entire consultation process. Ben Kirk, from Chichester Deserves Better, said: "The recent letter from Andrew Tyrie is welcome, in that it acknowledges the problems with the current options and more so the process. "It also recognises the importance that Chichester doesn’t risk the funding
and acknowledges that Chichester desperately needs improvements to the A27, something it has needed for years as the congestion progressively gets worse. "Our position now, is that we genuinely want the best that can be achieved for upgrading the existing online route, within the constraints of budget and investment scope." Continued on page seven.
