New jobs proposed for town UP TO 1,000 jobs could be created for Bognor Regis as part of a multi-million pound development. THe employment boost for the town was revealed in the first plans for the Salt Box commercial park development in Shripney. If the planning application is successful, the 11.8 hectare site along the A29 could include a hotel, gym, pub and a distribution depot for Warburtons the
bakers. Warehouses and engineering works are also proposed. Planning agent Nia Russell said: "THe proposal will deliver a mix of commercial uses, and result in the creation of between 500-1,000 new jobs in Bognor, serving to reduce out-commuting and deliver new employment and investment opportunities for the local area." She was joined by Paul Hanson, from developer Landlink Estates, to explain
the plans at Tuesday's meeting of Bersted Parish Council's planning, amenities and environment committee. Councillors welcomed the chance to find out about the ambitious scheme. But Cllr Gill Yeates said she was concerned the site’s development seemed likely to happen earlier than she had thought. She said: "It seems that this is imminent now. THey want to build the Warburtons building very quickly which almost sets it
in stone. “THere is a great deal of concern from many in Shripney. We are very worried about the A29 specifically, but also Rowan Way. “But Landlink have said they want to have a public consultation here and to talk to people in Shripney separately about it.” She also questioned the employment benefits of the site. “Another concern is that Turn to page five
