Warning about debt problems PROBLEM debts are affecting the lives of Bognor Regis residents as young as their early 20s. A financial advice charity has warned money difficulties are being faced by a wide range of people in the town. CAP debt centre manager Liddy Blunden said some of the clients she helped were in a dire financial situation. At the moment she is assisting 36 of these clients. "Some people are very

desperate," she said. "They are really anxious and everything is out of control. A couple of people I'm helping at the moment have got eviction notices because they have not been paying their rent. "There is one young woman in her early 20s and there are pensioners as well but the majority of people I help are in their forties. "When we get chatting, they are really

appreciative that someone is helping them. They feel amazing when they pay off their debts." The amount of money owed by those who seek assistance sometimes exceeded £10,000, she said, but it was usually less than that. Her clients' inability to pay was as much about a lack of budgeting abilities and their overall financial situation than the total level of their bills.

The centre is based in the Vineyard Church in Waterloo Square and is run by the Christians Against Poverty group. This has been established in the town for ten years and Liddy joined in 2016. The service is open to those of all faiths and none. Liddy's current clients include a Buddhist and a Muslim.
