Priorities prompt council row Plenty of FREE Parking

POTENTIAL spending pledges of £2million, including money for Bognor Regis regeneration, have provoked clashes between councillors. Ruling Liberal Democrat and opposition Conservative members of Arun District Council argued as they

discussed a set of new priorities for the years up to 2023. THe Lib Dems stressed the proposals were aimed at benefiting the lives of the district's residents. But their opponents claimed they were being reckless with council taxpayers' cash. THe priorities include spending £60,000 a year on creating new retail plans for the district's three main towns and the same amount on a climate change manager.
In addition, a yearly £80,000 would go on a new commercial and acquisition manager. THere is also the £325,000 budgeted for the Pavilion Park scheme for Bognor Regis town centre. Council leader Cllr Dr James Walsh said: "THis is not a business plan or a delivery plan. THis is a high-level priority list. Still less, is it a budget. "THere are indicative figures in here to give people an indication of what it
might cost. You are not being asked to make any financial decisions on this tonight. THat comes later. "All the detail will be worked through by every councillor and amended, if necessary, as it goes through council." He said the Conservatives were wrong to add in the Pavilion Park budget. Of that amount, only £90,000 had been spent to date and the rest remained. Turn to page 3
