PO9 Residents Know how to Party! On Sunday 3 June 2012, residents of Third Avenue, Denvilles, Havant held a street party, and despite the weather forecast, the day was fine and they all had a superb time. They were 130 in total and following a BBQ, the children used chalks provided to participate in some Pavement Art. They also had fun ‘apple bobbing’ but what they enjoyed the most was the doughnut eating competition. However, they were beaten by Bentley, the dog, who scoffed down a doughnut in record time! The children also took part in a Great British Bake Off competition, split into 2 age groups, under 11 and 12 and over. The standard was extremely high and the judges had a very difficult task in choosing a winner in each group. By Pauline Armstrong - Photo by Dave Arkwell.
Amelia and Charlotte Gray were two of the younger revellers at the Warblington and Denvilles Residents Association Jubilee Picnic. You can read about the Jubilee party they attended, along with news of the other parties taking place in our area, in the centre pages of this edition of PO9. Photo by David Burrows.
OFFICIAL OPENING OF LANGSTONE SAILING CLUB EXTENSION By: Peter Chinn
Langstone Sailing Club’s Commodore, Nick Mason, welcomed official guest Geoff Holt, the former professional disabled yachtsman who was paralysed in a swimming accident, to the opening ceremony of Langstone Sailing Club’s new extension on Sunday, 27th May. He inspired other disabled sailors when he became the first quadriplegic to sail the Atlantic. Another inspirational guest was the young sailor, Tom Webb, who as a teenager sailed single handed around the UK, raising considerable funds for Langstone Sailability and Even Keel, two sailing charities for the disabled. Both sailors were happy to spend time with Langstone Sailing Club and Sailability members, sharing their experiences, whilst enjoying some tasty snacks kindly furnished by some of the lady members of the club. Geoff Holt was particularly helpful in giving advice and guidance to Langstone Sailabilities Chairman, Mike Bartholemew, who despite having impaired mobility himself, is a very active participant in Sailabilities activities, and is very keen to be involved in projects that could be a valuable contribution to ‘Help the Heroes’. Langstone Sailability will be hosting their next open day on Saturday 21st July 2012, this will be a great opportunity to meet the qualified members and helpers who will be very willing to show interested PO9 readers the possibilities open to them as members of the club.
