Paralympics Hopefuls in Local Sitting Volleyball Team! Havant resident Julie Shave first joined Portsmouth Sitting Volleyball Club during its infancy, and has been training with them regularly ever since. The club was started by Steve Bailey after he attended the 2009 Amputee Games at Stoke Mandeville. Since then, the club has attracted a dedicated team of players who meet every Thursday night between 6pm and 8pm at the Mary Rose School in Portsmouth. Last year the team finished fourth in the National Finals at Crystal Palace, and in this year’s finals the team were runners-up against the Essex Pirates in the Tier 2 Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix Final which took place on 14th April at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering. A further highlight for the club has been the selection of team member Jodi Hill for the Great Britain Sitting Volleyball team. She will be heading to the Paralympics this summer. Another two club members, David Williamson and Charlotte Hughes, were training with the Great Britain team but were unable to continue with the training sessions due to work commitments. Portsmouth Sitting Volleyball Club caters for all ages from 16 upwards and works with individuals of mixed ability to develop their volleyball skill within a friendly and supportive environment. Further details can be obtained from Club Chairperson, Steve Bailey on: 07842707303 email: steve.bailey919@ntlworld.com.

Warblington School Student to Carry the Olympic Flame Liam O’Hare, a Year 7 student at Warblington School has been chosen to carry the Olympic Flame. He will be running through Petersfield on 16 July 2012. He was recommended by the Head of PE to the selection committee as a student who has a fantastic attitude towards life in general and also in sport, summing up the three Olympic values of Friendship, Respect and Excellence perfectly. His chosen sport is Rugby where he and the Year 7 Team have built a very strong foundation, based upon friendship and effort amongst the team. However, Liam knows the benefits of having more than one string to his bow, and has already committed his time to the School Football, Cross Country and Basketball Teams. So much so that the youngest league team we have is Year 9, which Liam has trained with and played in most of their matches. This is exceptional for a Year 7 student! Renewable Energy in use at Budd’s Farm Southern Water (Our Principal Leading Supporter) is maximising the use of renewable energy and promoting reductions in carbon emissions across its operations. Budds Farm Wastewater Treatment Works is the home of one of the company’s 13 renewable generation Combined Heat and Power plants (CHP). The plants are positioned across the region and are producing in excess of 10 per cent of the company’s energy needs. A review of other renewable energy forms including solar and wind are also underway. Other initiatives the company are undertaking to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions include process optimisation, improved pump and blower efficiency monitoring, smart metering and hydro recovery that will harness energy from our treated water outfalls.

Large Gas Membrane Holders store gas generated through the treatment of sludge, which is then turned into electricity.
