Set in over four acres of land on London Road, phase two, known as Yew Gardens, will comprise of two, three and four-bedroom homes, 98 of which will be available through Grainger’s affordable arm, the Grainger Trust. The remainder will be offered for sale. Construction has now begun, with the first properties due to be released for sale in November and show homes scheduled to open the following month. John Beresford, Development Director at Grainger, commented, “We are delighted to have Redrow Homes on board for the next phase at Berewood.” “The whole community comprises 13 phases and will take 10-15 years to complete. Phase one has been extremely successful, residents are moving in and Berewood Primary school has opened its doors for the academic year. It’s such a pleasure to see our community develop.” Berewood Primary School Berewood Primary School, the first of two schools to be built and funded by Grainger in the new community development, opened its doors for the first children in September.
The first I heard of the Men’s Shed movement was by an email from one of my sons that simply read ’What do you know about Men’s Shed?’ I googled ‘Men’s Shed’ and up popped details of two – one in Camden, and another in Gosport: l was hooked. The main aim of a Men’s Shed is to help retired men come to terms with retirement or loss by having a safe place to go, have a cuppa, make new friends and carry on their personal projects or for the community. I got in touch with Martin Corrick in Gosport, and went to see his shed setup. The first big challenge I had, was then to find a building suitable for conversion. I came across the disused pavilion in Cowplain owned by Havant Borough Council. Following our request, the Council granted a five-year lease at a peppercorn rent to enable us to create the Waterlooville Men’s Shed there. We then had to get planning permission for the change of use. I kicked off the idea and soon attracted ten members – now known as Shedders.
