Grainger brings the principles of English Garden Cities to Waterlooville…

Many have advocated the idea of creating communities with parks and schools, rather than suburban sprawl. The heart of Grainger’s Berewood housing scheme development in Waterlooville champions this Garden City concept. John Beresford, Development director at Grainger plc, said: “Listening to the community and its needs is key to the success of the Berewood scheme. Berewood will be a sustainable extension of Waterlooville. We have worked in conjunction with both the council and the residents to implement design codes to ensure the same high quality and style remains throughout the development. Aside from developing quality and affordable housing, we will provide community amenities, such as parks, schools, pubs and sports facilities. Grainger takes a long-term interest into every development we do, and we are creating Berewood to be a desirable place to live serving the residents living here for years to come reflecting the original Garden Cities of Letchworth and Welwyn.” With the first phase of the development under way, we take a look at how and why Garden Cities developed.
