YWCA Westfield is gearing up for its highly anticipated annual Arts & Crafts Festival, set to take place the weekend of July 25 and 26, 2025, at Moore Park. This free two-day event invites visitors to explore a diverse collection of handmade items, including original artwork, home and garden décor, clothing, accessories, and toys.
“This festival is a true celebration of creativity and community,” said Stephanie Stevens, Executive Director of YWCA Westfield. “We love seeing local artisans share their talents, and it’s always amazing to watch our park transform into a vibrant marketplace.”
With over 150 vendors expected to participate, attendees can browse a wide variety of handcrafted goods and enjoy an array of food vendors offering delicious local fare. The festival is anticipated to attract around 5,000 visitors over the weekend.
“The Arts & Crafts Festival is a wonderful tradition that brings our community together while welcoming visitors to experience the charm of Westfield,” said Kathryn Bronstein, YWCA Westfield Board President and Festival Chairperson. “It highlights the creativity of regional artists and crafters, and we’re excited to showcase everything our area has to offer, including a stay at our YWCA Westfield Airbnb.”
Since its inception in 1971, the festival has grown into a signature summer event. YWCA Westfield took over the planning in 1992, continuing the legacy of what has become a beloved tradition.
One of the festival’s original organizers, Linda Dunn, reflected on the event’s transition back in 1992, saying, “It was time for new leadership, and after 20 successful years, I knew the festival would continue to grow.” Now, more than 30 years later, that vision holds strong as the festival remains an essential part of Westfield’s summer season.
Visitors can find parking throughout the Village of Westfield or at the Westfield Academy and Central School bus garage, where
continuous shuttles will run to and from Moore Park. Proceeds from vendor booth rentals directly support YWCA Westfield’s mission of empowering women and eliminating racism. For vendor registration and event details, visit ywcawestfield.org.
Founded in 1894, YWCA Westfield has been dedicated to supporting women and families in Westfield and the surrounding communities. The nonprofit remains a membership-based organization offering fitness facilities, community programming, and advocacy initiatives aligned with YWCA USA’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women. In 2020, YWCA Westfield expanded its offerings by renovating part of its facility to include Airbnb accommodations, welcoming guests to experience the heart of Westfield firsthand.
Above It All
Kinzua Bridge State Park & Skywalk
The engineering masterpiece is the reinvention of the original Kinzua Viaduct following the 2003 tornado. The Kinzua Viaduct, first constructed in 1882, soared 301 feet high and 2,053 feet across, and was the highest and longest railroad bridge in the world. The bridge was pre-fabricated near Philadelphia and transported to the site for erection. Once the sandstone foundation piers were in place, 125 men, working 10-hour days on 3.5 million pounds of iron, completed the construction in just 94 days at a cost of $275,000.
Standing taller than the Brooklyn Bridge, the Viaduct quickly became a tourism destination upon its completion. Walking out on the bridge was the next best thing to flying. Sightseers from around the globe visited the majestic bridge to experience the thrill of “Walking the Tracks Across the Sky.”
On July 21, 2003, an F1 tornado ripped through the Kinzua Gorge heading for the bridge. Hundreds of trees were ripped from their roots, only nine of the original towers remained standing. Following a massive restoration project, six of the towers left standing were reinvented as the Kinzua Skywalk. Today, visitors can walk 624 feet next to the dual set of train tracks, at a height of 225 feet, peer down through a partial plexiglass floor and gaze out for a 360-degree view of the beautiful landscape. Kinzua Skywalk was selected as “One of the World’s Top 10 Most Beautiful Skywalks and Viewpoints in the World.”
Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitor Center open daily 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. during the summer
Located at the edge of the Kinzua Gorge sits the Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitor Center, TripAdvisor’s #1 Pennsylvania State Park, featuring two exhibit halls which highlight the innovative, can-do spirit of the region and General Thomas Kane and engineer Octave Chanute who built the original bridge. The Visitor Center is also home to the PA Wilds Conservation Shop featuring the Wilds Cooperative of Pennsylvania, a network of more than 175 local producers, artists, and craftspeople from across the Pennsylvania Wilds region.
Kinzua Skywalk will be open August 8th through October 31, 2025
The Kinzua Skywalk is currently undergoing a multi-year preservation and rehabilitation project that has the Skywalk inaccessible for nine months, opening from August through October in 2025. The project includes removing the decking and railroad ties to access the support towers, replacing steel where thinning has occurred, reassembling the decking, installing new plexiglass for the viewing area, replacing the handrails, cleaning and painting all steel portions of the Skywalk. During the closure, the Visitor Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. During the Skywalk closure, the observation deck will be open, offering breathtaking views of the Skywalk and the Gorge.

Lots of recreational opportunities abound including a scenic bike trail and the Gerard Hiking Trail.
Historic Pithole City is located off Route 227, accessible from Route 36 and Route 8. The site is the location of Pennsylvania’s legendary oil boomtown, Pithole City, which sprang up quickly in 1865 during the oil rush days following the success of nearby Drake Well. The city, which at one time boasted 15,000 inhabitants along with a plethora of oil wells, saloons, hotels, restaurants, theaters, and more, vanished just as quickly as it started with boom leading to bust as the oil craze moved on to other sites. Although nothing remains of the city today, an educational Visitor Center with exhibits and a detailed diorama of the city is open for visitors to explore during the summer months. Visitors can also tour the “streets” of Pithole, marked out with interpretive signage to show where buildings and structures once stood. The Visitor Center will reopen for the season on May 31st, remaining open Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until September 1st. Admission fees apply, visit www.drakewell.org for a full list of rates!
Drake Well Museum and Park will host special events during the summer months including Drake Day on August 11th, held the same weekend as Titusville’s Oil Festival! Drake Day celebrates the anniversary of Drake Well, which was struck on August 27, 1859, just outside of Titusville. This year’s event will take a trip back to the 1860s with various living history reenactors and demonstrations, showing visitors what life was like in the Pennsylvania Oil Region during the oil boom days. The museum will also host the Drake Well Marathon and Half on August 18th. This special race is a major fundraiser for Friends of Drake Well, which supports Drake Well Museum and Park, and the marathon portion is a qualifier to participate in the Boston Marathon! The summer season will wrap up with the 41st Annual Fall Gas Up Show on September 13th. This event invites exhibitors to bring their antique gas and steam engines, oilfield equipment, and more to show to visitors!

The Allegheny offers a wide variety of recreation activities including boating, camping, hunting, fishing, ATV riding and snowmobiling that result in about 4 million recreation visitor days annually. The 12,000-acre Allegheny Reservoir provides boating, camping and fishing opportunities.
About one-third of the world’s supply of black cherry furniture veneer is provided by the Allegheny National Forest. In addition, numerous oil and gas wells are located throughout the forest.
Abundant fish and wildlife provide a variety of hunting, fishing, and viewing opportunities. The changing colors of the hardwood leaves each fall provide spectacular views from the many overlooks around the forest.
Climate
The area has four distinct seasons, with an annual precipitation of about 40 inches.
— Spring brings many blooming wild flowers and other natural vegetation.
— Summers are warm and moderately humid with average temperatures of 75-80 degrees.
— Fall provides panoramic views as the foliage turns spectacular colors of yellow, reds and purples.
— Winters are moderate with average temperatures of 20-25 degrees and about 60 inches of snowfall annually.
Highlights of Management
European settlers reached this area in the early 1800's. At first, trees were cut to clear land for agriculture and to provide timber for cabins and barns. Soon, the first commercial water-powered mills cut small amounts of lumber from selected pine, hemlock and large hardwoods.
Deer
By 1900, deer and their predators were almost eliminated due to over-hunting. The Pennsylvania Game Commission began to restore the deer herd by importing deer from other states.
In 1911, Congress passed the Weeks Act, allowing the federal government to buy land in eastern states for the establishment of National Forests. The Allegheny National Forest was established in 1923.
The land was so depleted that many residents jokingly called it the "Allegheny Brush-patch." Some worried the forest would never recover. But with low deer populations, a new forest did quickly grow.
Abundant browse led to a dramatic increase in the deer population, which peaked in the 1940's and again in the late 1970's. Since the mid-1980's, the deer population has remained fairly constant -- although at a level higher in many
places than the forest can support.
During the 1920s, recreation on the ANF focused mostly on dispersed activities such as hunting and fishing. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps changed the face of National Forests by building hundreds of recreation facilities, including Twin Lakes and Loleta Recreation Areas on the ANF. These facilities became popular after World War II when newly-mobile families discovered the joys of outdoor recreation.
The creation of the Allegheny Reservoir when the Kinzua Dam was completed in 1965 brought the most dramatic change to developed recreation on the ANF. Within ten years, a tremendous development program resulted in campgrounds, boat launches, beaches, picnic areas, hiking trails and overlooks around the reservoir shoreline and elsewhere throughout the forest.
As a result of industrialization and widespread unregulated logging of the Allegheny Plateau, many rivers and streams were threatened with intense pollution and channel instability. President Calvin Coolidge recognized the importance of watershed health and established the ANF with the aim of restoring and protecting the Allegheny River watershed.
Since that time, conservation efforts to protect and restore the Allegheny River watershed led to a remarkable recovery of the Allegheny and Clarion rivers. This recovery resulted in their designation as wild and scenic rivers for their outstanding scenic, natural, recreational, scientific, historic, ecological and fisheries resource values.
By the 1940s, the forest began to take on an appearance familiar to us today. The older trees provide acorns, cherries, and beech nuts for bear and turkey. Birds find sites for nests in the leafy tree crowns and plants like trillium prefer the filtered light of the maturing forest.
Over time, various laws added other benefits such as creating wilderness, protecting heritage resources and allowing grazing in addition to watershed protection and providing continuous timber.
Eastern National Forests are primarily second-growth forests and differ in character than National Forests in the West created from huge forest reserves of largely virgin forest. Today, after almost 100 years of careful management, the trees are mature and able to provide quality hardwood for furniture and other needs.

There is new exhibit at the National Comedy Center.
Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesiais recently gifted his 1959 VW Bus.
In 2023, before Igesias’ performance at the Northwest Arena, he toured NCC.
During his tour, he fell in love with NCC. Then he asked NCC Exective Director Journey Gunderson, what he could do to contribute to NCC. This was already after he gifted his shirt that he wore during his 2022 sold-out Dodger Stadium performance in Los Angeles.
Iglesias was at NCC In May for a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally gift his VW Bus and his new exhibit that is now on display.
“It’s one thing to have your name on a wall. It’s another to have a poster or the shirt that I wore in the special,” Iglesias

Get ready to dig in and explore the outdoors — the Warren County Conservation District has announced its 2025 Summer Conservation Camp schedule, and spots are still available for several sessions.
This year’s theme, “A Little Dirt Doesn’t Hurt,” promises fun, friendship, and hands-on learning experiences all centered around the natural world.
Children’s Nature Camp is designed for students entering first through sixth grades and is divided into three age groups. While CNC III (for students entering fifth and sixth grades) on July 7-8 is already full, limited space remains for the following sessions: CNC II (July 10-11) for students entering third and fourth grades and CNC 1 (July 22-23) for students entering first and second grades.
Camps run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are held at the Hatch Run Conservation Demonstration Area Pavilion on Hatch Run Road. Campers will learn about water, soil, plants, and wildlife through engaging activities. They’ll also get the chance to play in the stream and try their hand at fishing in the pond. Each CNC session is capped at 32 participants, so early registration is encouraged.
For younger nature lovers, the Kindergarten Nature Camp is available for children entering kindergarten this fall. It will also take place at Hatch Run, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 24. Campers will take part in crafts, games and outdoor exploration while learning about the environment in a fun, hands-on way.
The application deadline for all camps is June 18. Camp fees are $40 per child for CNC and $20 per child for KNC. Scholarships are available for families who need assistance. For more information or to download an application form, visit www.wcconservation.net, call 814-726-1441, or email Sherry Moore at smoore@wcconservation.net.

He added that NCC has an energy that has been taken from some of things from the great comedians to ever perform on stage.
“It’s not just stand-up. It’s comedy - whether it was sitcoms (situational comedies) or films, directors, writers. I love the fact that there is a place like this (NCC) that dedicates everything to comedy,” he said.
“Here, it’s ‘you are welcome to touch and experience.’ Here you can hear stories, and see videos and interviews from 50-plus years ago, which I think is incredible,” he added.
Gunderson said that the new exhibit is a testament of Iglesias’ connection with his fans, and the power of comedy to bring people together.
“Some might call this Gabe’s induction into the National Comedy Center. But the truth is that Gabe’s extraordinary work has been showcased in our mueum since we opened. This is more than an induction. … It’s a celebration, a recognition of comedy history, and it’s a tribute to an artist whose impact continues to grow,” Gunderson said.
Iglesias made history as the first comedian to sell out Dodger Stadium, and the vintage VW Bus — featured in the opening of the Stadium Fluffy Netflix special — now takes its place in the National Comedy Center to represent that milestone performance.
June 28th & 29th
With more than 34 million social media followers, more than 2 billion YouTube views and his status as the third-highest grossing comedian of 2024, Iglesias has built a massive fanbase. He executive produced and starred in the acclaimed Netflix original series Mr. Iglesias, and his comedy specials Stadium Fluffy and One Show Fits All are among the mostwatched on the platform. His latest stand-up special, Gabriel Iglesias: Legend of Fluffy, premiered on Netflix in January of 2025.
Talking about his frustations is part of the reason why the comedian is so successful.
“My material is based on things that I'm going through,” Iglesias said Thursday during a one-on-one interview at NCC. “So for some reason, no one wants to hear about me having a good day. So, if I have a good day and everything is going as planned, nobody, nobody can relate to that. People can relate more to frustration. Sure, they relate to situations and relationships where there's (people) butting heads, and situations where you're a fish out of water. People like relating to stuff like that. No one wants to hear you got a bonus from Netflix.”
The 32nd annual Great Blue Heron Music Festival continues their flight into a fourth decade of music, dance and community at the Heron Farm & Event Center over Independence holiday weekend: Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6.
Three dozen bands are scheduled to perform across four stages, including Andy Frasco & the UN, Beats Antique, Donna the Buffalo, The Rumble, Dustbowl Revival, Jimkata and Driftwood. The weekend also offers a wide range of activities including drum circles, healing arts and instrument workshops, dance lessons, food and craft vendors, local beer and wine, biking, hiking, swimming in a lifeguarded pond, and daily activities for kids and teens.
Weekend tickets are on sale now for two-, three- and four-day tickets with upgrades for RVs and tent camping next to your vehicle. One-day tickets are available for Saturday and Sunday. All tickets include free Red Lot parking and walk-in tent
camping in the woods. Details at greatblueheron.com
Owner and founder Julie Rockcastle is dedicating this year’s event to the festival co-founder and local music impresario David Tidquist, who passed away in November 2024. The Heron’s main stage has been officially christened as “David’s Stage” and there will be a “Sharing of Stories & Songs” on Friday.
This year also marks the return of the Tiger Maple Stage, featuring daily musician-led instrument workshops, an evening Maple Jam that showcases regional songwriting talent (hosted by Tyler Wescott), and a midnight drum circle on Friday and Saturday. And recent enhancements to the Dragon Stage are sure to make the musical memories at this newest deep-in-thewoods venue even more magical this year.
Finger Lakes root-rock favorites Donna the Buffalo have long played the role of the Heron “house band,” and will maintain that tradition with two big sets on the main stage and an all-night shindig in the dance tent as their alter-ego: Buffalo Zydeco. Making their Heron debut as headliners are LA’s feel-good party masters Andy Frasco & the UN, San Francisco’s experimental global fusion and electronic music group Beats Antique, American roots orchestra The Dustbowl Revival, and Grammy-nominated New Orleans band The Rumble featuring Big Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr. They will be joined by the blazing newgrass of Virginia’s Shadowgrass, the soulful pop of Tennessee’s Florencia & the Feeling, Chicago-based groove-fusion outfit Sneezy, and Cool Cool Cool: a fiery nine-piece funk band featuring former members of Turkuaz. Back by popular demand are the rollicking Americana of New England’s Ryan Montbleau Band, the globally-inspired grooves of Ithaca’s Sim Redmond Band and New Planets, the thrilling electro-rock of Jimkata, and Binghamton’s beloved song-driven folk-rockers Driftwood.
While live music is the centerpiece, the festival offers plenty of activities for the whole family. Play music at an instrument workshop, practice wellness in the Revival Tent, or learn new steps with an instructor-led dance lesson. There is also a full slate of creative activities for both younger children and teens, a new space for the spirited drum circle, and a lifeguard-protected sandy beach on the spring-fed pond for a cool swim on a warm summer’s day. And there is no need to cook, as there are many great options for prepared food and drink, including a coffee bar, plus local beer and wine.

The 94th Warren County Fair will take place in Pittsfield from Aug. 4 to 9. Main attractions include the Oak Ridge Boys and Alex Miller.
The Oak Ridge Boys are bringing their American Made Farewell Tour to the Warren County Fair for an unforgettable night of entertainment for the entire family. The show will feature many of the group’s country hits and two pop smashes, songs that earned them Grammy, Dove, CMA, and ACM awards, as well as garnering a host of other industry and fan accolades.“When I go on stage, I get the same feeling I had the first time I sang with The Oak Ridge Boys,” says lead singer Duane Allen. “This is the only job I’ve ever wanted to have.”
“‘Elvira’ was always on repeat when I was growing up,” says tenor Ben James. “It’s still one of those timeless songs that never grow old.”
James first met The Oak Ridge Boys in November 2022. “Joe (Bonsall) handed me the mic and said, ‘You’ve got the next verse,’” James said. “I’m not sure I will ever get over that moment.”
Young Country traditionalist Alex Miller performs on Aug. 6. His world expanded wildly following his American Idol experience in 2021. Shortly after his exit from the show, Miller secured a manager, a booking agent, and a record label. Alex’s well-received debut album, MILLER TIME (April 2022), generated three high-impact singles: “I’m Over You, So Get Over Me,” “Don’t Let The Barn Door Hit Ya,” and “Through With You.” Alex’s second project for Billy Jam Records, the EP COUNTRY (October 2023), featured additional hits: “When God Made The South,” “Girl, I Know A Guy,” and the smash single, “Puttin’ Up Hay.”
In June of 2024, Alex made his debut on the Grand Ole Opry. “It was incredible,” Miller says. “I had fans drive in from several different states to see the show and share that experience with me. It was amazing.”

James Terrell "A Collide of Scope" @ Crary Art Gallery Sun, Jun 1 - Mon, Jun 30, 2025
All day
James Stephen Terrell's art showcases advancements in color theory, influenced by his education at Howard University (BFA)
and Parsons School of Design (MFA). His work draws inspiration from diverse sources, including quilt design, stained glass techniques, and Joseph Albers' color blocking. Terrell's vibrant, saturated paintings capture life's movement and energy. Blending abstraction with realism and employing electric color interactions and geometric patterns, Terrell aims to explore humanity and spirituality in these turbulent times. His art emotionally engages viewers through a kaleidoscope of illusions, telling multiple stories. In today's world, where many feel perplexed and anxious, Terrell's "A Collide of Scope" addresses universal feelings that transcend race, color, or creed.
Jo-Ann Morgan " Fabric Memorials" @ Crary Art Gallery Sun, Jun 1 - Mon, Jun 30, 2025

Morgan's artistic practice employs machine quilting with appliqué techniques to construct layered cotton fabric compositions. Her work often tackles provocative topics related to social justice and inequality, using the familiar medium of quilted comforters to make these subjects approachable.

The Wild Shoats will be at Struthers Library Theatre on Friday, June 27, at 7PM. Presented by Roots Rising Concert Series. Sponsored by Warren Concert Association. Emerging from the in-between realms of Morgantown, WV, and Millheim, PA, The Wild Shoats write an alt-folk soundtrack to the strange times they find themselves in. Characterized by the plaintive sound of fiddles and mountain singing, The Wild Shoats call on their collective background of Appalachian Old-Time, folk songs, and the high-lonesome to reimagine the songs and sounds of their home. The Wild Shoats won the Appalachian String Band Music Festival’s Neo-Traditional Band Competition in 2023, and released their debut album, Yell In The Shoats, in February of this year. The band is composed of brothers Gus and Huck Tritsch (Millheim, PA), Mary Linscheid (Morgantown, WV), and Alex Heflin (Morgantown, WV).
