Silver Spurs Riding Club Rodeo Shows its Passion for Community with the Exceptional Rodeo!
Shouts of joy filled the Silver Spurs Arena on the final day of this year’s 150th Silver Spurs Rodeo, and it happened during the Silver Spurs Riding Club’s favorite rodeo… the Exceptional Rodeo.
This year’s rodeo saw record crowds on Friday and Saturday night, and again during its Sunday afternoon “matinee’ rodeo, but on Sunday morning, everyone who is part of the Silver Spurs Riding Club will tell you the same thing, the Exceptional Rodeo is everyone’s favorite rodeo event.
“The Exceptional Rodeo is an awesome event. We are blessed with so many people that have come to perform here at the Silver Spurs Arena, to experience a little taste of rodeo, to help each other, and to touch each other’s lives,” Silver Spurs Riding Club Big Boss Clifton Chapman said during the Exceptional Rodeo.

2.5 million U.S. middle and high school students used e-cigarettes for more than 30 days in 2022, FDA says
In 2022, about 1 in 10, or more than 2.5 million, U.S. middle and high school students currently used e-cigarettes for more than a 30-day period, according to the FDA and CDC who released federal data from the 2022 National Youth Tobacco Survey on e-cigarette use among U.S. youth in the Morbidity & Mortality Weekly Report “Notes from the Field: E-cigarette Use Among Middle and High School Students — United States, 2022.”

Current Use
• 14.1% (2.14 million) of high school students and 3.3% (380,000) of middle school students reported current e-cigarette use.

Ken Smith Clays 4 Kids Sporting Clay Classic Raises Support for Education Foundation Osceola County
The Education Foundation’s 3rd annual Clay Shooting event took place last Saturday weekend at the Triple N Shooting Range in east Osceola County, and for first time, the very successful clay shooting fundraiser had a new name, the Ken Smith Clays 4 Kids Sporting Clay Classic.

“The Education Foundation proudly renamed this year’s clays tournament to the Ken Smith Clays 4 Kids Sporting Clays Classic to honor the memory of Ken Smith, past president of the Foundation. This past Saturday, the sporting clays community came out to support Ken’s legacy and the programs that serve the students, teachers, classrooms and families across Osceola County. The event was a huge fundraising success and we felt Ken smiling down on us Saturday.”

FWC continues to monitor avian influenza across Florida

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission continues to monitor bird mortalities suspected to be attributed to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza throughout Florida. This strain has been documented in the United States since 2021 and was detected for the first time in Florida in January 2022.
The FWC has documented the virus in 37 counties and a variety of bird species. The most common species affected in Florida include black vultures, lesser scaup and Muscovy ducks. Owls, bald eagles and other raptors, along with aquatic birds and waterfowl, have also been affected.

Congressman Darren Soto Recognizes Central Florida’s Distinguished Leaders for Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month 2023, U.S. Congressman Darren Soto held a ceremony recognizing individuals in Central Florida for their accomplishments in the Central Florida community. The honorees’ biographies were submitted into the Congressional Record and they received official Congressional Certificates.
Congressman Soto opened the ceremony by honoring Anna M. Pinellas, who passed away recently. Congressman Soto recognized Ms. Pinellas in 2019 during Black History Month for her work as the founder of Osceola Visionaries, Inc. and as a civil rights leader. A moment of silence took place in her honor.
“It’s really the stories that make these events, educators, non-profit leaders, business leaders, veterans, medical professionals, so many folks from the African-American and Black-Caribbean community who really make Central Florida a better place,” Congressman Darren Soto said at the event at Hunter’s Creek.

Toho Water Authority to Continue Water Line
Toho Water Authority will continue water line flushing in targeted areas of the City of St. Cloud next week, Feb. 27- March 3. The map shows the area where customers are likely to experience a temporary drop in water pressure and discolored water. Water pressure and clarity will return once flushing operations in the area are completed.

St. Cloud Little League Season Opens with Record 80 Teams, 945 Players
The St. Cloud Little League began it’s 2023 season on Saturday with an opening ceremony that included a record number of players, coaches, families, elected officials, and community members, all wanting to hear the proverbial ‘Play Ball’ over the PA system.

The first pitches were thrown by Osceola County Commissioner Ricky Booth, and his wife, School Board member Erika Booth. Also in attendance were St. Cloud Mayor Nathan Blackwell, St. Cloud Commissioner Linette Matheny, St. Cloud Fire Marshall Richard Tonks, owners of Headquarters Co-working Keith and Kelly Trace, and Canoe Creek Christian Church Pastor Ross Reynolds.
