City of St. Cloud Invites Community to “Zumba-Gold in the Park” – A Free Outdoor Fitness Event on May 17 The City of St. Cloud is inviting residents to lace up their sneakers and get moving at Zumba-Gold in the Park, a free community fitness event designed for all activity levels.

This energizing morning of movement will take place on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Performing Arts Pavilion, located at 1104 Lakeshore Blvd.

Education Foundation Awards 582 Scholarships, Celebrates 40 Years of Impact at Scholarship Awards The Education Foundation of Osceola County honored the achievements of graduating seniors at its Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony Wednesday night at Osceola Heritage Park. The event, which was presented by Orlando Health, celebrated not just academic excellence, but the spirit of perseverance, service, and hope that defines the next generation of leaders in Osceola County.

This year, the Foundation awarded an incredible 582 scholarships to deserving students, bringing the total value of scholarships awarded since its inception to over $12 million.

Founded in 1985 by Tom Tompkins, the Foundation’s original goal was to guarantee first-year college tuition for every graduating senior in Osceola County. Now, 40 years later, the Foundation continues to fulfill that promise—and more—by delivering innovative programs that empower students, support educators, and build a stronger community.

Commissioner Peggy Choudhry and Animal Services Host Successful Free Microchip Event Appreciative pet owners from around District One in Osceola County came together on Saturday for a Free Pet Microchip Event, hosted by District 1 Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry in collaboration with Osceola County Animal Services.

Held at 2925 International Drive (former Publix), the drive-up event aimed to enhance pet safety and help ensure lost animals have a better chance of being returned to their families.

Voyager K-8 Student Wins Local Civics Bee Hosted by Osceola Chamber; Central Florida Finalists Advance A thriving community begins with an engaged and informed citizenry—and that starts with civics. That’s why The Osceola Chamber, in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, hosted the National Civics Bee competition at Gateway High School last week, an exciting new initiative aimed at inspiring middle school students to deepen their understanding of American democracy, engage meaningfully in their communities, and build trust in one another and our civic institutions.

The journey began last November when The Osceola Chamber and the School District of Osceola County invited 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from public, private, charter, and home schools to participate in a civics-themed essay contest. From those submissions, community leaders from across the nation selected the top 20 scoring students to advance to a live, in-person final round.

This local competition—one of only three held in the state during Florida’s inaugural year participating in the National Civics Bee—was a milestone for civic education in our region.

Orlando Health Expands Digestive Health Institute, Advances AI Innovation for Early Pancreatic Cancer On Tuesday, Orlando Health unveiled the newly expanded Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute. The state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Orlando is recognized worldwide as one of the most advanced centers for digestive health. Now, this new expansion is bolstering Orlando Health’s innovative research including AI capabilities that improve diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for diseases such as pancreatic cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

“This expansion showcases our commitment to not only providing high quality clinical care, but also conducting cutting edge clinical research” said David Strong, Orlando Health president and CEO. Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute is now pioneering AI technology for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. according to the American Cancer Society. Dr. Shyam Varadarajulu, gastroenterologist and president of Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute, is developing AI endoscopic ultrasound technology to help doctors detect pancreatic cancer earlier by spotting tiny tumors in the pancreas. Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital’s Major 20,000-squarefoot Expansion to Feature New ICU and Cardiac Cath Lab A significant milestone was reached this week at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital as construction progresses on a transformative expansion designed to elevate patient care in the community. Marked by a ceremonial “topping out,” the hospital celebrated the placement of the final beam on its new two-story, 20,000-square-foot expansion that will house two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories and a brand-new 10bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The expansion, located on the northwest corner of the hospital campus, reflects a major investment in advanced cardiovascular and critical care services. The new facilities are expected to open in January 2026 and will provide patients with faster, more advanced treatments without needing to travel outside the community.

Osceola Arts Begins Work on “The Garden Within” Mural in Downtown Kissimmee Osceola Arts has begun work on its latest public mural, “The Garden Within,” at 219–231 Broadway in downtown Kissimmee. This vibrant piece, part of the ongoing ARTisNOW Public Murals Project, is being brought to life by Tampa-based artist Taylor Smith, known professionally as Dreamweaver.

The southwest-facing wall, currently being transformed, will soon feature a radiant blend of purples, pinks, blues, and greens, symbolizing growth, transformation, and the beauty of divine creation.

Dreamweaver’s signature fusion of abstract and realism will showcase sweeping wings—representing freedom and resilience—alongside glowing flowers that embody persistence and renewal. The mural is inspired by the quote, “All beauty begins where the soul dares to grow.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dreamweaver to Kissimmee as she begins transforming this blank wall into a vibrant work of art,” said Brian Camacho, Osceola Arts’ new Public Arts Coordinator. “The community will have the unique opportunity to witness this creative process unfold in real time.”

I-4 Relief Lanes Open Near ChampionsGate, Easing Traffic for 140,000 Daily Drivers Drivers commuting through one of the most congested stretches of Interstate 4 are now seeing significantly shorter travel times thanks to the early opening of new congestion relief lanes. The Florida Department of Transportation officially opened one additional lane in each direction between World Drive in Osceola County and U.S. 27 in Polk County on Monday, delivering long-awaited relief to the nearly 140,000 drivers who use this corridor daily.

The new lanes are part of the “Moving I-4 Forward” initiative — a 14-mile expansion project aimed at improving safety and mobility along a key segment of Central Florida’s busiest interstate. The milestone not only marks the completion of a major phase in the project but also exceeds expectations, with the lanes opening a full eight months ahead of schedule.

Osceola County and NSF Celebrate Launch of Florida Semiconductor Engine, Ushering in a New Era of Innovation was center stage Tuesday as Osceola County leaders, federal partners, and industry trailblazers gathered at NeoCity for the official ribbon cutting of the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Florida Semiconductor Engine. The milestone event began with “Coffee & Conversation” at the OC Building in Kissimmee, featuring Tawny Olore, P.E., CEO of the newly renamed Engine, who unveiled a new identity and website—SemiconductorEngine.org—solidifying Florida’s place at the forefront of U.S. semiconductor innovation.

The Florida Semiconductor Engine, formerly known as the Central Florida Semiconductor Innovation Engine, is one of only 10 programs nationally selected by the NSF’s Regional Innovation Engines initiative. It was awarded up to $15 million in initial funding and has the potential to receive up to $160 million over the next 10 years to drive growth in the semiconductor advanced and specialty packaging industry.

Osceola County Commissioner Ricky Booth Hosts Successful Plant & Tree Giveaway at Downtown St. Cloud Osceola County residents gathered in front of St. Cloud City Hall on Wednesday night, April 30, for a special Plant & Tree Giveaway hosted by District 5 Osceola County Commissioner Ricky Booth.

The event, held during the Downtown St. Cloud Monthly Market from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., provided free trees and plants to the community on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Trees and plants increased property values and helped beautify our community,” Commissioner Booth said following the event. “This was a great opportunity to come together during a very busy Downtown St. Cloud Monthly Market and make Osceola even more beautiful.”

Many of the trees given away came directly from the Osceola County Tree Farm, which currently has more than 10,000 trees and seedlings growing. The farm supports countywide sustainability efforts and supplies greenery for community beautification projects like this one.

Attendees were able to choose from a selection of gallon-potted trees and plants.

Orlando Health’s Hospital Care at Home Hits 2,000-Patient Milestone in Central Florida Orlando Health’s Hospital Care at Home program, which delivers acute hospitallevel care directly to adult patients in the comfort of their own homes, has successfully treated over 2,000 patients across Central Florida since its launch in February 2023.

The program, available to Orlando Health patients who meet specific clinical criteria determined by emergency department and hospital staff, is now available through Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital, Orlando Health Dr. P. New Era Begins for Fire Station 43 as Osceola County Celebrates Groundbreaking in Campbell City Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS, alongside District 3 Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington, county leaders, and project partners, officially broke ground on the future site of Fire Station 43 in Campbell City—signaling the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of the county’s most established and dedicated fire stations.

“Station 43 is an institution in this community,” Osceola County Commission Vice Chairman and District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington said. “We are so proud that this new facility will give them the space and the resources to continue that tradition of service for many years to come.”

Station 43 has been serving the community in Campbell City for decades, originally founded as the all-volunteer Campbell City Fire Department; when OSCFR was created in 1989, the station was brought into the department and remained a volunteer station for several years.

The station became a “combination” station several years later when a paidprofessional EMS rescue unit was added, transitioning to full around-the-clock staffing in 2002.

Osceola School District Celebrates Official Opening of Voyager K-8 in Sunbridge On Friday, the School District of Osceola County proudly celebrated the official ribbon cutting of its newest educational facility—Voyager K-8, a state-of-the-art prototype school serving kindergarten through eighth grade students in the rapidly growing Sunbridge community.

The ceremony was attended by a host of community leaders and district representatives, including School Board Members Anthony Cook, Paul Bronson, Terry Castillo, and Board Chair Heather Kahoun, as well as Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff and Chief Facilities Officer David Sharma. Harmony Falls to Jupiter 13-9 in Game 2, Sets Up Decisive Regional Showdown Saturday Former major league catcher and Hall of Fame announcer Joe Garagiola once said “There’s No Defense Against the Base on Balls.” Harmony learned that lesson the hard way Thursday afternoon, issuing 12 walks and hitting two batters in a 13-9 loss to Jupiter in a Class 7A, Regional semifinal.

The loss, combined with Harmony’s 13-4 win a day earlier, sets up a decisive Game 3 on Saturday night in Jupiter. The winner advances to a Best-of-Three Region 3 Final beginning on Wednesday night.

Although Jupiter collected nine hits – including five of the extra base-hit variety – it was the inability of the Longhorn pitchers to throw strikes that directly led to the loss. In all, nine of Jupiter’s 13 runs reached base via walk or hit by pitch.

“It was a combination of a couple of things. The strike zone was tight and maybe a little inconsistent but that’s pretty normal in high school baseball,” Harmony coach Heath Williams said. “You can’t use that as an excuse and you have to adjust to how the game is being called. But the bigger issue was the fact that we knew Jupiter is a very good hitting team and out ball park is on the smaller side.

When you consider those two factors, I really believe we are just trying to be too fine with our pitches.”

St. Cloud’s Felblinger Shines as Bulldogs Capture Class 7A, District 6 Championship Over Harmony All season long, St. Cloud’s softball team has relied on its team speed to put pressure on opposing defenses. They did it again Wednesday night, stealing six bases and scoring a pair of runs on wild pitches to beat Harmony, 3-2, and win the Class 7A, District 6 Championship.

“It’s been sort of M.O. all season,” St. Cloud coach Ray Whobrey said. “We have some pretty good team speed and we like to take advantage of it. Tonight was a great example.”

While starting pitcher Addison Felblinger was setting Harmony down in order in the top of the first, the Bulldogs were taking a 2-0 lead in their half of the inning. With two outs, Felblinger singled, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Skylah Rodriguez walked and stole second. Felblinger would then score on a wild pitch and Rodriguez scored on a Shyenne Hawkins’ single.

The score would remain the same until the third, when Harmony finally got to Felblinger for a couple or runs. A one-out double by Lindsay Green was followed by a Jade Allen single. Emerson Aslan loaded the bases on a four-pitch walk and with two outs, Haley Diaz drove in Harmony’s first run with a single – with Allen scoring later on the play when Aslan got into an intentional rundown between second and third..
