Safety Behind the Wheel: Enroll Now in the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Teen Driver Challenge Class on August 19

In an effort to ensure safer roads and instill responsible driving habits in young individuals, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office offers a very special program called the Teen Driver Challenge. Aimed at equipping teen drivers with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the challenges of the road, this initiative has proven to be a significant step towards reducing accidents and promoting road safety. The next class is scheduled for August 19 at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility, located at 3901 Arthur J Gallagher Blvd. in St. Cloud.

The Importance of Teen Driver Education

The statistics are sobering – motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death among teenagers in the United States. In response to this alarming trend, many law enforcement agencies, including the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, have taken proactive measures to educate young drivers about safe driving practices. Osceola County Weather: Heat Advisory in Effect With High of 98 Expected, Lower Chances of Afternoon Showers

Happy Wednesday Osceola! We’re expecting a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, mainly after 2pm. We’ll see sunny skies with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 111. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun as much as possible today. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. If you’re headed out to a theme park today, try to take breaks out of the sun, use sunscreen and stay hydrated at all times!

Winning Mega Millions ticket sold in Florida, matches all six numbers to claim $1.58B jackpot

This unprecedented Mega Millions® jackpot run has finally come to an end! After 31 drawings without a big win, a lucky ticketholder in Florida will celebrate the Summer of 2023 with a record-sized MEGA jackpot, currently estimated at $1.58 billion ($783.3 million cash). A single ticket sold in the state matched all six numbers in the August 8 drawing – the white balls 13, 19, 20, 32 and 33, plus the gold Mega Ball 14. It’s the fourth time a jackpot-winning ticket has been sold in Florida; two prior wins were shared with other states, most recently a $502 million prize split with California last October 14.

Osceola County Schedules Road Repair & Resurfacing to Kings Highway — Here’s Where and When

Osceola County has scheduled road repair and resurfacing to Kings Highway from Taylor Ridge Loop to Pine Island Road in Kissimmee beginning Monday, August 14th through Friday, August 25th.

The county says all work will be performed daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and that schedules may vary based on weather conditions or equipment-related issues. There will be temporary lane closures but no road closures, and traffic delays can be expected in the area. Please use extra caution when driving in the road work area.

Governor Ron DeSantis suspends OrangeOsceola State Attorney Monique Worrell

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the suspension of State Attorney Monique Worrell of the 9th Judicial Circuit, saying she has neglected her duty to faithfully prosecute crime in her jurisdiction.

The Governor has appointed former judge Andrew Bain to serve as State Attorney for the duration of the suspension. The Governor has the authority to suspend a state officer under Article IV, Section 7 of the Florida Constitution, according to the Governor’s news release.

“It is my duty as Governor to ensure that the laws enacted by our duly elected Legislature are followed,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “The people of Central Florida deserve to have a State Attorney who will seek justice in accordance with the law instead of allowing violent criminals to roam the streets and find new victims.”
