Selected as Bank of America Student Leaders
Two high school seniors from the Osceola County School District, including Sharon Sanju, from Tohopekaliga High School, and Keenan Lewis, from Poinciana High School, were selected as Bank of America Student Leaders, an eight-week paid summer internship providing 300 students with first-hand experience in serving alongside local nonprofit organizations.
As part of the program, the students will develop leadership and practical workforce skills while working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida, all while earning $17 per hour.
Following a competitive application process, the class of 2023 Central Florida Bank of America Student Leaders are:
• Sharon Sanju, a rising Senior at Tohopekaliga High School: After she was elected student government president, Sharon learned the power of initiative as she helped enhance the high school experience for her peers, leading the coordination of school-wide events and initiatives. Sharon also leveraged her leadership skills to serve as the vice president of the Asian American Student Association, where she connects with her Indian heritage and guides the group to help share and enjoy cultural experiences together.

Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Begins Today, Monday July 24. Check Out What You Can Save On!

The first of Florida’s two upcoming tax-free holidays for back-to-school-supplies begins today, Monday July 24, and will run through August 6. The back-to-school- tax holiday is a great way for families to save a great amount of money on qualifying items. The next tax-free holiday after that will happen during the first two weeks of January.
DURING THE SALES TAX HOLIDAY PERIOD, QUALIFYING ITEMS WILL BE EXEMPT FROM TAX, INCLUDING:
• Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item
• Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item,
• Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less

Florida spiny lobster seasons starts this week!

The 2023 spiny lobster season opens with the two-day recreational miniseason this week on July 26 and 27, followed by the regular commercial and recreational lobster season, which starts Aug. 6 and runs through March 31, 2024.
“My family and I look forward to spiny lobster season every year along with thousands of other Floridians,” said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Chairman Rodney Barreto. “It’s a great time to get out on the water with loved ones. I hope everyone takes care to practice safe boating and make sure to do your part to protect Florida’s coral reefs.”

Osceola County Weather: Summer Showers Will Keep Temps More ‘Normal’
Happy Monday Osceola! Expect a 60% coverage of rain in and around Osceola County today, with a 50% coverage of rain tomorrow through the rest of the week. The clouds and showers will likely keep the temperatures in the low 90s, more of what we call normal. When it’s not raining, it’s going to “feel like” it’s 100 degrees, so remember to consistently hydrate and keep sunscreen on the kiddos, and you!

A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 105. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west northwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

State Road 417 ramp closure at Narcoossee Rd to begin Sunday night, here’s how to safely adjust
CFX has announced that the ramp from Narcoossee Road to northbound SR 417 will be closed nightly from Sunday, July 23 to Thursday, July 27, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The road work is associated with the State Road 417/Central Florida GreeneWay Capacity Improvements project.


Drivers will be directed to travel east on Moss Park Road and follow the detour signs.
Please allow extra travel time. Due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances, work could be delayed. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction area for their safety and that of the work crews.
This work is for a capacity improvements project on SR 417 from International Drive to SR 528/Martin B. Andersen Beachline Expressway, which started in February 2021 and is expected to be complete by summer 2024.
