Be hurricane-ready with the 2023 KUA Osceola hurricane preparedness guide

With the start of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season approaching, Kissimmee Utility Authority released its 2023 Osceola Hurricane Handbook, a free, bilingual, comprehensive preparedness guide offered annually to Osceola County residents.

A partnership between KUA, Osceola County, the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud, Toho Water Authority and UF IFAS Extension in Osceola County, the handbook includes information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, generator safety and power outage restoration as well as helpful telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a tropical cyclone tracking chart.

The handbook can be downloaded in English and Spanish from KUA’s website at www.kua.com/storm. Printed copies of the bilingual handbook are now available in KUA’s Carroll Street lobby, located at 1701 W. Carroll St, Kissimmee, FL.

St. Cloud fire rescue Lt. David Miller selected to join Florida urban search and rescue task force 4

Lieutenant David Miller, dedicated member of the St. Cloud Fire Rescue Department, has been chosen to join the Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 4. With nearly a decade of experience in the fire service, Miller’s selection marks a significant milestone for the department, as he becomes the first firefighter to join this esteemed task force.

Expressing his gratitude, Miller stated, “I am honored to have been chosen to serve on Florida Task Force 4. This is a great opportunity to use my skills and training to help those in need.”

Florida Task Force 4 is part of the larger network of FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces in the United States, comprising professionals from various emergency response backgrounds. These dedicated individuals, including firefighters, paramedics, engineers, and other emergency personnel, are specially trained to swiftly respond to natural disasters and other emergencies

Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” Live-Action story arrives at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort

On Friday, the same day the live–action remake of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” hit theaters, Ariel, who stars in this latest version of the film, made her debut at Walt Disney World Resort.

Located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Ariel stepped out of the new movie and into Prince Eric’s shoreside castle where she was warmly welcomed by guests.

Ariel’s meet and greet location at Walt Disney Presents features artwork inspired by the movie that guides guests on a journey from sea to land, ending at the picturesque setting of Prince Eric’s shoreside castle. There are also many of Ariel’s “thingamabobs,’’ replicas of props from the film, on display.

Seeing bears in unexpected areas? Stay calm and follow these saftey tips from FWC!

Between the ages of 1½ -2½ years, juvenile or yearling bears start dispersing in spring and summer, with spring marking a return to activity for bears after limited movements in winter. During this time, juvenile bears may be seen in unexpected areas as they travel across a wide range of areas in search of a new location to settle down.

In recent weeks, bears have wandered into Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville.

“The most important thing people can do to help these bears is to leave them alone,” said the FWC’s Bear Management Program Coordinator, Mike Orlando. “Give them plenty of space and let them move along on their own.”
