Florida Highway Patrol combats rise in street racing

Street racing, street takeovers, and stuntdriving incidents have risen in Florida, but the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the Florida Highway Patrol are intent on combatting these dangerous driving behaviors.

Florida law, enacted in 2022, prohibits street racing. Takeovers, drag racing, donuts, burnouts, wheelies, drifting, and other related activities create unsafe roadways.

Overtaking a road is dangerous for many reasons; it impedes the normal flow of traffic, can delay emergency vehicles responding to those in need, and endangers participants, spectators, and innocent bystanders.

Osceola County to host “Transpotation Summit” May 9, showcasing current road projects

Chairwoman Viviana Janer announced Monday that the county will host an Osceola County Roads Summit on May 9 at 10.a.m. in partnership with the Central Florida Expressway Authority, the Florida Department of Transportation District 5, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and MetroPlan Orlando. The summit aims to showcase and explain the County’s recent collaborations with these agencies to bring about significant improvements to the County’s transportation infrastructure.
