PRESENT BRUCE LIPTON AUTHOR OF BIOLOGY OF BELIEF
Beyond Darwin: A Promising New Theory of Evolution An eye-opening lecture from Bruce H. Lipton, PhD in Dublin, Ireland.
Wednesday, November 18, 2026 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM Talbot Hotel Stillorgan “The moment you change your perception is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.” DR. BRUCE LIPTON
Read the news, surf the Web, or look out your window, and you will observe that civilization is in a world of crises: Crisis ignites evolution! The Darwinian theory of evolution’s unbridled emphasis on competition, a quest devoid of moral restraints, has been eroding civilization and destroying the web of life. Currently, a scientific renaissance is shattering old myths and rewriting the story that will shape the future of human civilization. In a dynamic multimedia presentation by Bruce H. Lipton, PhD, epigenetic pioneer and bestselling author, provides a synthesis of quantum physics, epigenetics, and neuroscience that reveals the mechanisms by which beliefs create the character of our lives and shape civilization. In contrast to competition, the new theory is predicated on life-sustaining cooperation. The knowledge offered in Bruce’s presentation is the source of personal empowerment that will enable you to navigate through this turbulent period in our planet’s history and thrive into the future. This new science can shape a sustainable future for human civilization.

Welcome to Autumn 2026 When you appreciate.....YOU appreciate. Simple thought and quote from Abraham Hicks. It's our theme this issue, and when you appreciate someone or something, you feel good inside and increase your own frequency, as well as the quality of your own life experience. Why would you do anything else? In this Avatar game of matter, seemingly there is a lot going on, and our ability to choose what we really want to experience can get distracted. To instantly re-focus, start appreciating your daughter, your son, a view, your dinner, your lover, and watch yourself rise again. From this broader view, see your life as the beautiful mirrorball it is, reflecting the light of consciousness across this planet. In this issue, enjoy our interviews with Bruce and Anita. We are so blessed to have these two gems coming to us for live events this Autumn. Thanks to the entire team on this issue: Conor, Persephone, Caroline and Alyson. The magazine and I appreciate you and what you bring. And finally, to our Readers, Writers, and Advertisers. We APPRECIATE you. Paul Congdon, Publisher

1 Against The Current HEROIC TEEN SAVES STRANDED FAMILY. by Persephone Kianka Earlier this year, 13-year-old Austin Appelbee accomplished a tremendous feat—swimming four kilometres and then running another two once he reached shore—to save his stranded family. According to police, the family of four had been paddleboarding and kayaking off the coast of Western Australia before strong winds unexpectedly pushed them out to sea. After it became clear there was no other option, Austin’s 47-year-old mother asked him to go for help while she stayed with her other son, 12, and daughter, 8. In the fading light, Austin paddled a short distance in his kayak before it began to fill with water, forcing him to swim and eventually discard his life jacket to save time. In an interview with 7NEWS Australia, he shared that focusing on positive things, such as his girlfriend and school buddies, kept him going. “I think at one point I was thinking of Thomas the Tank Engine, you know, and trying to get the happiest things in my head…” After a treacherous journey, Austin managed to alert authorities by 6 pm local time, prompting a huge search for his family members, who were found almost three hours later,
clinging to a paddleboard about 14km offshore. "A volunteer marine rescue vessel was directed to their location, and all three were successfully rescued and returned to shore," the force reported. While Austin’s bravery and determination cannot be praised highly enough, his mother, Joanne, also deserves recognition. "She's an absolute hero as well. To keep those two children together and not give up is absolutely incredible,” remarked Naturaliste Marine Rescue commander Paul Bresland. Of course, she was just as proud of her son: “I’m speechless at his efforts, but at the same time, I knew he could do it,” she told 7NEWS. All around, it was a miraculous triumph over dire circumstances, a testament to the power of positive thinking and a potent reminder of how rapidly ocean conditions can change.

2 Protecting Our Pets A NEW COMPASSIONATE POLICY FOR PET GUARDIANS. by Persephone Kianka Anyone who has a beloved pet knows that they are a part of the family, and now, finally, the law is starting to reflect this truth. According to Noticias Ambientales, Italy now offers paid emergency leave when your pet is seriously ill. Employees can request up to three days per year, provided they have a veterinary certificate validating the need for urgent care. The pet must also be registered with a microchip. The catalyst for this legal triumph occurred in 2017, when “a university librarian in Rome took time off to care for her elderly English Setter and won the right to be paid for those days,” according to One Green Planet. The basis of their case was that, under Italian law, leaving an animal in severe pain is a criminal offence, so staying home to care for them is not just a personal choice but a legal responsibility. This event undoubtedly paved the way for the formal framework we see today, reflecting years of legal and cultural development. In most countries, pets are still legally considered property despite the deep emotional attachment we may have to them. Therefore, Italy’s new policy acknowledges this personal reality as well as the fact that caring for a suffering animal is a human obligation, not a lifestyle preference. While this is certainly a win for pet lovers and domestic animals, it will also, hopefully, improve animal welfare overall. Italy stands out as the first country to achieve this victory, but let’s hope that one day it will be the norm!

1 Embracing The Spotlight THE ART OF BEING SEEN.
by Persephone Kianka
What does it mean to be seen, in the deepest sense of the word? We hear a lot about this concept in self-improvement and spiritual spaces, but recently, I found myself, prompted by a new experience, reconsidering what it means and why I, like many people, experience resistance around it. In March, as part of my music Master’s program, I got to perform some of my songs at a public gig alongside my classmates. I jumped on the opportunity, despite my lack of gigging experience, or should I say due to my lack of experience, in order to push myself beyond the
boundaries of my identity up to this point. Though I’ve always loved artistic expression, making silly music videos and “performing” for close friends and family, somewhere along the way, I developed resistance to sharing this part of myself with the outside world. Going into this new experience with an investigative mindset, I tried to uncover why that was and what it meant, internally, to be witnessed there on stage by a couple hundred people. To my surprise, I didn’t feel nervous per se—my body felt calm— but I did feel self-conscious. My face, body, movements, voice,
and words all on display, with the goal of entertaining an audience, while expressing my truth. As an empath, it’s my reflex to attune myself to the people I interact with, which is easier one-on-one or in a small group. When faced with a crowd, however, I realised that’s impossible, and perhaps that’s why it feels so strange to me. In this scenario, the only option is to be me. Embody what I want to be, feel and showcase, and let the audience respond how they may. I’m excited to explore new ways to translate my inner world into an outer expression that resonates with me and my audience!

2 Channels Of Collaboration MUSIC AS A CONDUIT FOR SOURCE. by Persephone Kianka Last semester, my class took a module called “Exploring Collaborative Practice,” which required us to apply collaborative theories to our musical endeavours. As I reflect on these theories while working on my final assignment, a few stand out, bearing a striking resemblance to wellknown spiritual “theories”. Even when not creating music directly with others, our work is still shaped by countless influences; not just the art that inspires us, but the full range of experiences and information that have expanded our consciousness to its current state. David Byrne from the rock band Talking Heads even describes his songwriting process as “a collaboration with oneself, with one’s subconscious as well as with the collective unconscious, as Jung would put it”. Singing “nonsense syllables” while improvising a melody over music—which
is also my preferred method of songwriting—can be viewed as a form of channelling. Just like mystics, many musicians view themselves as a conduit for “some force that speaks through them”. Whatever this force—“the god, the alien, the source”—may be, Byrne suspects that it is ultimately “a part of oneself, and that this kind of creation is about learning how to listen to and collaborate with it.” I, too, believe that all the various spiritual entities we give names to are ultimately part of our own consciousness, which is, in turn, part of the collective consciousness. Music, among other spiritual practices, is a very powerful means of acknowledging and reconciling these different facets. As author Ernst Fischer puts it, “Art is the indispensable means for this merging of the individual with the whole,” which may be even more true for those
who don’t consciously connect to their spirituality. Music is certainly my favourite form of collaboration, which allows me, through both listening and creating, to access and integrate many different layers of existence—the spiritual, physical, universal and personal—simultaneously.
“Music, among other spiritual practices, is a very powerful means of acknowledging and reconciling these different facets.”

Carol Lopez When I think about a place I truly appreciate, my heart goes straight to our greenhouse. It is much more than a place where we grow microgreens. It is a place that grew with us. Years ago, this greenhouse was empty and abandoned, waiting for a new purpose. At the same time, our family was also beginning a new chapter. My husband left his career as a chef, I was rebuilding my path after moving to Ireland, and together we decided to bring this space back to life. Little by little, with care, patience and a lot of learning, the greenhouse started growing again—and so did we. Our son has grown up surrounded by seeds, plants and nature. He has seen that beautiful things take time, that mistakes are part of learning, and that with love and dedication something tiny can become something amazing. Every tray we grow is a reminder of transformation. A tiny seed becoming food, an abandoned greenhouse becoming full of life, and a family creating something meaningful together. I am grateful for this little glass house in Dublin—the place where plants grow, dreams grow, and where our family continues to grow too.
Patrick-joseph For years, I searched for something more through different spiritual paths. Meditation, manifestation, energy work and the language of the universe all gave me moments of insight, but none quietened the deeper longing within me. Then, unexpectedly, I encountered Jesus Christ. His name can be difficult to mention in many spiritual spaces. Some carry understandable wounds because of the abuse, corruption and crimes committed by people within the Church. Those wounds deserve compassion, but Christ is not the same as those who have failed in His name. What drew me to Jesus wasn't religion. It was the man He revealed Himself to be: unwavering in truth, rich in mercy, courageous in love and deeply compassionate towards the broken. He asks not for perfection, but surrender and an honest relationship with Him. Following Christ hasn't removed suffering or answered every question, but it has transformed where I place my hope. Instead of carrying life through my own understanding, I've found peace in trusting the One who knows me completely. I've met many sincere people searching within the holistic space. I know that search because I lived it. Perhaps the answer isn't another path to discover but allowing Jesus Christ to search your heart and lead you.
Joanne King When I think about the things that have shaped my life, I think of three: yoga, the sea, and my beautiful son. They are very different, yet they have all quietly taught me some of life’s most important lessons. Living and teaching yoga by the sea has given me a deep appreciation for the healing power of nature. Some days the waves are gentle; other days they’re wild, but they always invite me to let go of what I can’t control and trust the flow of life. Whether I’m swimming in the sea or teaching a class to the sound of the waves, I feel deeply grateful for the perspective, connection, and peace the ocean brings. My son has been my greatest teacher. He has shown me that the most meaningful lessons don’t come from having all the answers, but from being fully present. Through him, I have learned patience, resilience, and the quiet strength that comes with unconditional love. He has encouraged me to see the world with fresh eyes, to slow down, and to appreciate the small moments that are so easily overlooked. When I reflect on these relationships, I realise they are all connected in the way they have shaped me. They have taught me to be more present, more accepting, and more open to life’s constant changes. They remind me that happiness isn’t found in striving or certainty, but in connection—to nature, to the people we love, and ultimately, to ourselves. To me, that is the true meaning of yoga, and for all of these gifts, I feel deeply grateful.
Hal Warren As a kid, I learned that to do the right thing, one must be cautious, one step ahead, analytical and in tune. In rock climbing, we learn “sequencing”. The act of reading and rehearsing the movements in a climb before you even step on the wall. It kinda looks like a mime dance if you were imitating someone doing a really bad Macarena. After 8 years of competitive climbing, 3 National Championships, and close to 5,000 hours of practice, being worried was something I learned to manage, not relinquish. This analytical side of my brain flourished and was given freedom to sprint, to be wild. But it always needed to be tamed. The climbing gym ultimately taught me how to just be. I learned how to achieve high things, but slowing down is hard for me. Not moving for longer than 5 minutes is hard. Existing is hard. But you don’t have to “be” anything at this refuge. I’m so grateful to be under the trees, smell the coffee and hear laughter that welcomes me and the strongest-hearted people who embrace me. My identity was built around doing, but my attempt is to shape it by rest. The climbing gym asks that you show up for both. My recommendation: stay a little longer.

POSITI V E AT TR ACTION
the art of feeling
abundant DELIGHT IN THE ELEMENTS.
by Judith McAdam
We came together to consciously live the elements and the laws of the Universe. What unfolded surpassed everything we expected. I found myself sitting in a stone farmhouse in the Asturian hills, not far from the sea. Outside, a lemon tree hung heavy with fruit. Valley cows grazed nearby, their bells marking a slow, unhurried rhythm. On the table in front of me were the remnants of a shared meal, olive oil, good bread, a fresh crisp salad. Around the table sat the seventeen of us, some of us strangers just five days earlier, now something else entirely. And I thought: this is it. This is what abundance actually feels like. We had come to Asturias for The Alchemist’s Journey. This was a retreat I had been building in my mind and heart for years, structured around the Hermetic laws and the four classical elements. What I hadn’t fully anticipated was how Mother Earth herself would become our greatest teacher. Asturias is one of the greenest, most unspoiled corners of Europe. It is a place where ancient mountains meet the Cantabrian Sea, where you can stand on a beach and smell the eucalyptus forest behind you. From the first morning, something began to shift in us. Not because of anything I said or taught, but simply because we had stopped rushing past life and started living inside it. “Abundance is not a destination.
It is a frequency, one the natural world broadcasts constantly, if we are tuned to receive it.” We talk about abundance constantly in the spiritual world. We set intentions around it, journal about it, recite affirmations. But what I witnessed on that coastline was something far more visceral. It was what happens when human beings stop treating abundance as a concept and start experiencing it as a felt reality. The Hermetic principle of correspondence tells us that the outer world mirrors the inner. In Asturias, surrounded by the eucalyptus forests, the wild beaches, the mountains rising behind us and the vast Cantabrian Sea stretching out in front, something in each of us quietly recalibrated. It became harder to believe in scarcity. Not because we argued ourselves out of it, but because the land kept contradicting it, moment by moment. We worked with the four elements as living vibrations rather than symbolic concepts. Mother Earth was not a metaphor for groundedness; it was actual sand beneath bare feet, actual soil in the eucalyptus forest, the eucalyptus kernels we collected as we walked, breathing it in deeply. Water was not a symbol of flow; it was the Cantabrian Sea and the de Sella River, which we kayaked. We learned firsthand how futile it is to go against the current, how much easier life becomes when you move with the flow. Fire was a
ceremony at dusk; under the Flower Moon on the night of our arrival, we gathered around a shared flame and chose, together, to release what no longer served us. And Air, Air was the sea breeze that came each morning like a gentle instruction, moving through the eucalyptus leaves, clearing everything that had gathered overnight. Working with the elements this consciously, this physically, is a completely different experience to reading about them. It was abundance in its most original form. It really is the planet giving everything it has, all the time, to anyone paying attention. “The Earth was teaching what no workshop alone can fully teach, that we are already surrounded by more than enough.” What struck me most was how quickly genuine appreciation became effortless. Not performed appreciation, not the kind you write in a journal because you’ve been told to. Real appreciation, the kind that gives you butterflies before your mind has caught up. A woman helping another as they hiked the Ruta de las Xanas. One of the men sitting each morning at dawn, composing a song he would later sing to us all. Another participant lighting up as new friendships formed around her, finding herself at the centre of a group that simply, quietly, filled her with love. The HeartMath Institute has spent decades researching what happens
physiologically when we enter genuine states of appreciation. The heart’s electromagnetic field expands. Coherence between heart and brain increases. The nervous system settles. What I noticed in Asturias was simpler than any of that science, and also its living proof, it was people cracking open. Becoming more receptive. The earth doing the work, and all we had to do was show up and let it. Florence Scovel Shinn wrote that the game of life is a game of boomerangs; what we send out returns to us. At Covadonga, we stood looking out at the sheer magnificence of the mountains, and something became very clear: we were seeing our own magnificence being mirrored back to us. The experience of life that came back was so rich, so layered, and so generous that we began to realise we hadn’t known we were allowed to feel this good. That is the real poverty most of us carry, not lack of money or resources, but the belief that this quality of aliveness isn’t available to us. Slowly, our intentions began to shift. ‘I want more’ was igniting
“Abundance is not a destination. It is a frequency, one the natural world broadcasts constantly, if we are tuned to receive it.”
inside of all of us. More of this. More of nature’s unlimited abundance. You don’t need to go to Spain to access this. You need to go outside. You need to slow down enough to register what is actually there. A single tree in full leaf is an act of immeasurable generosity if you look at it long enough. Rain on a roof. The smell of the earth after it. The way the light arrives differently each morning, as if it has made an effort especially for you. The natural world is in a constant state of abundant giving, and most of us are too busy, too scheduled, too inside our own heads to receive it. The Alchemist’s Journey reminded me—again, because these things take repeated learning, that abundance is not something you acquire. It is something you tune into. It was never being withheld. It is broadcasting on a frequency of extraordinary richness, all the time. Our invitation is simply to become the kind of people who can receive it. To let the elements in. To feel Mother Earth. To watch the water. To stand in the wind
and understand, in your body rather than your mind, that you are part of something wildly, extravagantly alive. Richness, for me, was sitting at the top of the mountain in Casa Generosa in Pedroveya. That legendary little restaurant at the end of our pilgrimage hike on the Ruta de las Xanas, the seventeen of us around the table, plates of traditional Asturian food in front of us, experiencing the friendship, the love, and the laughter. Plenty of laughter. With an abundance of love, Jx

POSITIVE PE ACE
the gratitude gap:
from retrospect to real life LOVE LIFE NOW.
by Sandy C. Newbigging
14
Something strange happens when we look back. A job or relationship we complained about. A home we couldn't wait to leave. A version of ourselves— younger, freer, less burdened—that we'd give quite a lot to have back for an afternoon. At the time, there seemed little to be grateful for. But in retrospect, we can often see how good it actually was. We were there for all of it, and somehow, we missed it. There are reasons for this. Psychologists call one of them rosy retrospection—the tendency to remember past experiences more positively than we felt them at the time. Alongside this, negative emotions attached to memories tend to fade faster than positive ones—the arguments blur, the tender moments remain. And once we're no longer inside an experience, psychological distance does something else: it allows us to see the bigger picture. The daily fears and frictions fall away, and what mattered rises to the surface. The result is that we often see the value of something only once we're no longer in it—and no longer close enough to be distracted by its imperfections. I've felt this myself. Looking back at past relationships, I've found myself quietly aching for the best moments—the connection, the attraction, the laughter, the lazy Sunday afternoons together. Each relationship had its own real difficulties, and there were genuine reasons things ended. But I can see now that I didn't fully appreciate what else was there while it was there. The psychological distance that makes it visible later wasn't there then. This isn't an argument for regret— or for going back. And of course, not all memories become rosier with time. But this tendency points to something worth paying attention to. If we can often find more to be grateful for when looking back, perhaps we can appreciate more in the present—while we’re still living it. We tend to think of appreciation as something we do—a discipline or a daily practice of counting our blessings. And while there's nothing wrong with gratitude lists, this framing misses something important. It treats appreciation as a skill to be developed rather than a natural capacity that's simply being blocked. So rather than focusing on "how can I be more grateful?" it can be more useful to begin with a different question: what's getting in the way? Before we explore that, let’s be real first. If your life is genuinely difficult right now—if you're grieving, struggling,
exhausted, or in the middle of something objectively hard—this isn't an invitation to paper over it with gratitude. Naming what's painful and working to change what can be changed is the most honest and intelligent response to real difficulty. Pretending otherwise isn't appreciation. It's bypassing. What I'm pointing to is more nuanced. Even in the middle of difficulty, most of us are living more than just the hard things. There are still small moments, kindnesses, and ordinary pleasures that exist alongside the pain. We can become blind to those, too. The invitation isn't to feel grateful for the difficult things. It's simply to notice that the difficult things aren't the only things—and that waiting until later to appreciate what’s already here can be a trap. This is true not only when life is hard. Even when things are going well—no crisis, no grief, no obvious difficulty—appreciation can still somehow be absent. Many of us live with a low hum of dissatisfaction running beneath the surface. It doesn’t necessarily declare itself as full-blown unhappiness—more a subtle sense that life is slightly less than it should be. That we're not quite where we're supposed to be–yet. Hope for better is a valuable human instinct. But when today becomes something to rush past to get to tomorrow, it comes with a cost. When we're focused on what's missing, what’s wrong and needs improving, or what hasn't happened yet, we are largely absent from what's actually here. Instead, we're living in a mental future that appears to deserve more appreciation than the life we’re actually in. And then, years later, we look back— and feel the ache. The strange thing is that the life we're nostalgic for wasn't perfect when we were in it. We had worries then, too. We had things we were trying to fix. The difference isn't that life was better—it's that we're no longer inside the details of it. From a distance, the beauty becomes visible in a way it couldn't when we were too close. This is why appreciation doesn’t require effort. It requires perspective and presence. There's a principle I return to often in my work: we suffer less from our circumstances than from our relationship to our circumstances. Two people can face identical situations and have entirely different inner experiences—because what shapes how we feel isn't primarily what's happening. It's the lens through which
we're seeing it. When we're living in a constant state of "not yet"—not yet successful enough, not yet settled enough, not yet the person we're trying to become—everything we have gets filtered through that lens. The good things are noticed briefly and then set aside. The difficult things get amplified. The story we're telling ourselves about where we are colours everything. Appreciation, then, becomes more natural when that lens shifts. When we're no longer relating to life as something to be arrived at, but as something we're already in. In retrospect, psychological distance does this for us automatically. Perspective and presence offer us the same clarity— deliberately, and without having to wait. Two orientations I've found genuinely useful for seeing differently: The first helps with perspective, and includes a simple yet powerful retrospective question: If I were looking back at this period of my life ten years from now, what would I appreciate that I'm not fully seeing yet? This question temporarily lifts you out of the "not yet" orientation. It lets you see your current life from the perspective of someone who no longer has it. The home you find too small. The friend with their annoying traits. The health you’re taking for granted. The children at the age they are right now, before they grow into the next version of themselves. The question doesn't manufacture gratitude—it reveals what's already there, waiting to be seen. I've been living this myself. My wife and I are building a home, and it’s taken far longer than we anticipated. Over the three years—and counting—I’ve seen how easy it would be to settle into a low-grade frustration—a permanent "not yet," waiting for the walls, the roof, the day we can finally move in and begin the life we've imagined. But I noticed something about that orientation. If I spend the years of planning and building in quiet dissatisfaction, I won’t suddenly become content when the keys arrive. The mental habit of "not quite there yet" doesn't dissolve when circumstances change—it simply finds a new target. Once we're in, there will be furniture we haven't found, rooms that aren't finished, a garden that needs another season. The frustration wouldn’t end. It would simply move. And so, I've chosen to appreciate where I am now, in the middle of the waiting—because the alternative isn't just unpleasant. It's a
rehearsal for missing the life I'm about to arrive at, too. The second orientation is about presence, and it’s more fundamental. Appreciation isn't really about what you have. It's about how awake you are to what you have. When we are genuinely present–not distracted by the past, not waiting for the future, not running a quiet commentary on how things should be different–we find that appreciation arises naturally. It’s what’s left when the noise settles. This is why presence and appreciation are so closely connected. Presence isn't passive—it's an active quality of being attentive to what’s here.
16
When the mind is quieter, when we're less caught up in the project of selfimprovement and more simply here, we begin to notice the texture of our actual life. The coffee still warm. The light through the window. The conversation that went somewhere unexpected. The ordinary Tuesday that, in ten years, we might look back on with tenderness. When clients begin to make this shift—what they describe isn't dramatic. It's quieter than that. A Tuesday that feels less like something to get through and more like something to savour. A conversation they find themselves grateful for while it’s happening. A moment of noticing that what they have, right now, is
more than they'd been giving it credit for. The life you’ve been waiting for is here. We have a tendency to love our life later—when the distance allows us to see more clearly. The work is to love life now. Not by trying harder to be grateful, but by being present enough to notice what’s already here. After all, retrospect has a way of revealing how good today actually was.

POSITIVE SPIRIT
the hidden gift of
homesickness A POWERFUL SHIFT IN PERSPECTIVE.
by Margot Tubbiolo “Every traveller has a home of his own, and he learns to appreciate it the more from his wandering”- Charles Dickens This quote really caught my eye when I saw it, and it inspired me to delve into a topic that is personal to me, and I hope other people will be able to connect to it. Currently, I am living far away from home, as I think a lot of young Irish people are. It's no secret our lineage has been to emigrate, explore or wander. Whether that be by choice or necessity, given our history. Wherever you go in the world, you'll have no trouble finding someone who is either from Ireland or has a connection to it. I think people who have migrated to Ireland will also be able to relate. Even though I can only speak from my background, I think it's a universal experience to change perspective as you move away. I want to look at appreciation from this lens: an appreciation for culture and home. I find that appreciation can be linked to a shift in perspective. Within the same vein, I believe we can become misaligned by a lack of awareness of what we have. In this context, I can relate because when I was home, I didn't see the beauty it possessed. I also wasn't aware of how special my connections and relationships were. When something is far away, longing and love can come to the forefront. I think that's why homesickness can feel so visceral; it can almost feel like
18
a loss. Memories can flood you that you took for granted. Like all the times I went swimming in the Forty Foot, or the food I got tired of growing up that I now crave or the language that I thought was a pain to learn. I think that's why, as people, we flock together in foreign countries because we have a newfound love for where we came from. Moving on, I want to talk about acceptance for the now. Appreciation we have for what is here right in front of us. From this experience, I have learned that if I were to move again, I would miss all the things about my current life. The way I have my bakery job that I go into every day, surrounded by amazing coworkers.
I get to see my regulars and have funny interactions with them. I get to go home to my cute little apartment and cook some dinner for myself. I get to have people from home visit me and see the life I've built. I think what I'm trying to say is that I'm grateful for every path I've taken in life- and for all my problems and hardships too. Something my granny has always said that has stuck with me is: “If you were to put your cards down on the ground and look at everyone else's, you would still pick up your own.” I believe this means that, sometimes, we are even grateful for our problems, because they are ours. We’ve become equipped to deal with them, and we believe we are stronger because of them.
“When something is far away, longing and love can come to the forefront.”

“…appreciation— true appreciation— is filled with a longing that is very different from the desire to possess. ”
the silver
branch ALLOWING THE ALCHEMY OF APPRECIATION. by Dawn Cartwright
One midsummer’s day long ago, when the Tuatha ruled Ireland and the veil between enchanted realms and mortals was thin, a young prince named Bran set out from his rath to walk the land. Over rolling green hills, through oak and hazel forests, Bran walked long into the evening, surrounded by the comforting presence of midsummer bonfires as far as the eye could see. The light was just beginning to stretch its legs into dusk when a strange melody began to play around him. Everywhere he turned, the music shifted, so that it was always behind him. He looked to the left and to the right, never finding the source. Soon, the otherworldly music lulled him into a deep and dreamfilled sleep. Fast asleep, wrapped in the soft vermilion glow of the setting sun, Bran met an enchanted woman of the Sídhe in his dream. She sang to him a poem of Emain Ablach, the Land of Women — a mystical paradise of boundless joy, perpetual summer, and effortless pleasure. When he awakened, Bran discovered a gleaming silver apple branch bearing crystal white blossoms in his hands, a gift from the mystical realm. He held the silver branch close as he walked through the fields among the cattle, returning to his royal hall. Bran arrived to find the Sídhe there, at the center of his court, filling the space with the same enchanted melody he’d heard in his dream. As she sang, the branch released a
music of such unearthly sweetness that it ravished Bran’s entire being. The melody flooded him with longing, dissolving the boundaries of his ordinary world. Not long after, the enchanted woman vanished — and as she did — the branch leapt from his hand back to hers, leaving his heart yearning for Emain Ablach. A yearning that is familiar to us today.
The Silver Branch Perception There are moments, especially in midsummer, when we are overcome with enchantment, too. Like Bran, we are transported to mystical realms each time we allow ourselves to be ravished by the sights, the sounds and the smells of the world around us. Irish philosopher and mystic John Moriarty called this the Silver Branch Perception — a way of being that reveals this world as enchanted, sacred. And alive with wonder. “A marvelous way of seeing and knowing things that, in effect, is paradise regained.” The magical branch is rooted in the soil of the Otherworld. Mystical ecstasy is rooted in our sensing and knowing of a person or a place. The alchemy of beholder and beheld. A deeply somatic, erotic encounter with reality. Appreciation is the silver branch.
The Alchemy of Appreciation Each time we are captivated by a shaft of light falling across a stone wall. The smell of rain on warm earth. The softening in the eyes of a friend who's really listening. We feel it. Appreciation. But what is it, exactly, that we're feeling? Appreciation isn’t admiration, though it can look like it from the outside. Admiration keeps a respectful distance — it observes, evaluates, approves. Appreciation closes the distance between us and the world entirely. It pulls us out of the observer's seat and into direct contact with the beauty that has captured us. The light. The rain. The eyes. This is why appreciation feels unique in our body. Gratitude warms the chest. Joy lifts. And appreciation — true appreciation — is filled with a longing that is very different from the desire to possess. Appreciation is the longing to be — a part of. The stone. The light. The scent. The rain. The earth. The eyes. Our friend. We don't own any of these things. We belong to them. We are a part of them. And, in the longing, belonging appears. Alchemy. Yearning is fulfilled. In the longing. In appreciation. Distance vanishes. We are closer than close. Breathing one breath. This is what John Moriarty meant by paradise regained. Not a place we travel to.
Not a state we achieve through discipline or practice. A quality of perception that is always available — in any moment we are willing to be genuinely moved by our experience. The ordinary world, seen with the Silver Branch Perception, is already the enchanted realm. We are already inside it. Appreciation is simply noticing that we are. I can hear the Sídhe of Emain Ablach singing her mystical melody right now. Can you?
The Silver Branch Practice • The Alchemy of Appreciation Appreciation awakens the sexual fire in everyone, at every age, in every season of love. Enchantment lives in our bodies.
Prepare The Space Create a time and a space for your practice. Put away all electronics. Make sure you won’t be disturbed. Take a shower or a bath before you begin — or, better yet, make bathing a part of your practice. Since you’ll be exploring new ways of touching, listening, seeing and sensing, it’s best to set up a space separate from your bedroom. Novelty heightens the senses. Place a thick, soft duvet on the floor, with lots of pillows and blankets. Have candles, scents, sounds, a blindfold and sweets nearby. A flask of water. Tissues. A journal and a pen. Allow 60 to 90 minutes for your practice.
Set Your Intention Set an intention to awaken appreciation in your practice. To discover the extraordinary within the ordinary. If you are practicing solo, your intention might be to give yourself the attentiveness and devotion you would give to a lover. Sit comfortably in the space you have created. If you are practicing with a partner, you’ll sit side by side. Give yourself a few moments to land. Settle into the natural rhythm of your breathing. The humanness. The uniqueness of your body as you breathe.
22
The Appreciation of Sensation When you’re ready, begin to listen to the sounds all around you. The sound of the wind. The rain. The clock keeping time. The traffic outside. Relax, let the sounds come to you. Take your time. Don’t rush. Melt into the sounds you hear. Even the traffic. Then, one by one, tune in to all of your senses. Listen to the sounds. Smell your skin, the flowers, the herbs in the garden. See the colors and shapes of the ordinary objects in your space. Touch your body — and feel how it feels to be touched. Taste the sweets. Imagine you are exploring each of your senses for the very first time. Appreciation is directly linked to sensation. Notice how it feels to feel.
The Appreciation of Connection Our eyes are like mirrors. Ancient wisdom tells us the world we see is a reflection of the world that exists inside us. Appreciation bridges that gap. Sit facing one another if you’re practicing with a partner. Sit in front of a mirror if you’re practicing solo. Relax your face completely. Gaze into the eyes you see. The shape. The color. The emotion. Get closer without moving your body — soften and see more. Let your eyes travel the contours of the body and face before you. Notice that it will begin to feel as though you are actually touching the skin. Slow down. Even slower. Notice if you’re holding your breath. We’ve been taught that it’s impolite to look at another body, or even our own. If there are moments where the practice feels overwhelming, close your eyes and pause. Begin again when you feel centered. See what you’ve never seen before. Appreciation emerges when we are caught off guard by a familiar sight that we see with new eyes.
The Appreciation of Longing Let’s move even closer to the body. Put on a blindfold. Then pause. Notice how it feels to be behind the veil. Take a few breaths, just to feel the edges of your body from the inside. Try that again. Stretch the breath just slightly,
until you feel your inner world respond. Relax everything, especially your face. Explore touch, this time, for pleasure. Slow down. Speed up. Where does pleasure appear — and how does it feel? Pause for a moment, then touch more. Let the sensations of your body surge to the surface, then settle. And then, change your perspective. Touch your body for pleasure and follow pleasure from the surface to the core. The center of your body. And beyond. Appreciation flows out into the world — and inward, as sensation, too.
The Appreciation of Union For many people, the experience of lovemaking is disconnected from the body. A rush to a goal. The experience of appreciation is deeply connected to the body. It is — being a part of. It is merging. It is union. Alone, or with your partner, get closer. Listen to the sounds of your body, or theirs. The heartbeat, the breathing, the hum. Listen with all of your body, to their body or yours. Melt into the sounds you discover. And breathe. Then awaken to the scent of your body, or theirs. The sight. The touch. The taste. Get lost. Then find yourself again as distance vanishes. Closer than close. Breathing one breath. Ravished by the gentle beauty of the ordinary. The alchemy of appreciation. The enchanted realm.

24 POSITIVE POWER
the power of
appreciation BUILDING A CULTURE OF RESPECT AND RESILIENCE.
by Grace-Anne Kelly
In a world driven by ambition, deadlines, and constant competition, appreciation often becomes overlooked. People rush through their days focused on what is missing rather than what is present. Yet appreciation is one of the most powerful human emotions. It strengthens relationships, improves mental health, increases motivation, and creates a deeper sense of happiness and fulfillment. Whether expressed through gratitude, recognition, or simple acknowledgment, appreciation has the ability to transform both individuals and societies. Appreciation can be defined as the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something. It involves noticing value, expressing gratitude, and acknowledging effort or beauty. Appreciation is not limited to grand gestures or major achievements; it often appears in the smallest moments of life. A sincere “thank you,” a compliment, or a moment of recognition can have a lasting impact on a person’s emotional well-being. One of the most important aspects of appreciation is its effect on human relationships. Every individual wants to feel valued and understood. When people feel appreciated, they develop trust, confidence, and emotional security. In families, appreciation strengthens bonds between parents, children, siblings, and partners. A child who is praised for hard work feels encouraged to continue trying. A partner who receives acknowledgment for their support feels respected and loved. These simple acts create harmony and mutual respect within relationships. Friendships also thrive on appreciation. Friends who acknowledge each other’s presence, loyalty, and kindness build stronger and more meaningful connections. Often, people assume their loved ones already know
how much they matter, but unspoken appreciation can lead to emotional distance over time. Expressing gratitude openly keeps relationships healthy and vibrant. In workplaces and educational environments, appreciation plays a vital role in motivation and productivity. Employees who feel recognized for their efforts are more likely to remain committed and enthusiastic about their work. Teachers who appreciate students’ progress inspire confidence and encourage learning. Recognition does not always require financial rewards or public ceremonies; even a few encouraging words can significantly improve morale and performance. Modern psychology strongly supports the importance of appreciation. Research has shown that gratitude and appreciation contribute to lower stress levels, improved mental health, and greater overall happiness. People who regularly practice gratitude tend to focus less on negativity and more on positive experiences. This shift in perspective helps reduce anxiety and depression while increasing resilience during difficult times. Appreciation also has physical benefits. Studies suggest that grateful individuals often experience better sleep, lower blood pressure, and stronger immune systems. Positive emotions generated through appreciation can reduce harmful stress hormones and promote emotional balance. In this way, appreciation not only nourishes the mind but also supports physical health. Another significant dimension of appreciation is self-appreciation. Many people spend their lives criticizing themselves for mistakes, failures, or imperfections. While self-improvement is important, constant self-criticism
can damage confidence and mental well-being. Self-appreciation involves recognizing one’s own strengths, efforts, and achievements without arrogance. It means accepting oneself with kindness and understanding. Self-appreciation builds resilience. When individuals value themselves, they become less dependent on external validation. They develop healthier selfesteem and greater emotional stability. Appreciating oneself also encourages personal growth because people who believe in their worth are more willing to pursue goals and overcome obstacles. Appreciation extends beyond human relationships and personal growth; it also shapes how people interact with the world around them. Appreciating nature, art, culture, and everyday experiences enriches life in meaningful ways. A sunset, a piece of music, a historical monument, or even a quiet moment of peace can inspire feelings of wonder and gratitude. Such appreciation deepens human experience and encourages mindfulness. In today’s digital age, however, appreciation can sometimes become superficial. Social media platforms often encourage comparison rather than gratitude. People may focus on appearances, achievements, or material success while ignoring the value of genuine human connection. The fast pace of modern life leaves little time for reflection or acknowledgment. As a result, many individuals feel unseen and undervalued despite constant online interaction. This reality highlights the importance of intentionally practicing appreciation. Simple daily habits can cultivate a stronger sense of gratitude and positivity. Keeping a gratitude journal, expressing thanks regularly, or taking time to notice small joys can significantly
improve emotional well-being. Appreciation does not require wealth, status, or extraordinary circumstances. It simply requires awareness and sincerity. Leaders and communities also benefit greatly from appreciation. Societies built on respect and recognition tend to be more cooperative and compassionate. Leaders who appreciate their teams inspire loyalty and trust. Communities that celebrate kindness, volunteerism, and contribution create environments where people feel valued and connected. Appreciation can even bridge cultural and social differences. Regardless of language, nationality, or background, every human being understands the emotional impact of being valued. Acts of gratitude and acknowledgment promote empathy and unity. In times of conflict or hardship, appreciation reminds people of shared humanity and common purpose. Despite its importance, appreciation is often delayed until it is too late. Many people only recognize the value of someone or something after losing it. This is particularly true in relationships, health, and opportunities. People may take loved ones for granted, neglect their well-being, or overlook everyday blessings until circumstances change. Learning to appreciate the present moment prevents regret and encourages a more meaningful life. Appreciation also encourages generosity. When individuals feel grateful, they are more likely to help others and contribute positively to society. Gratitude creates a cycle of kindness in which appreciation inspires further acts of compassion and support. A single expression of thanks can motivate someone to continue spreading positivity to others. Children should be taught the value of appreciation from an early age. Teaching gratitude helps young people develop empathy, humility, and emotional intelligence. Children who learn to appreciate others become more respectful and compassionate adults. Parents and educators play a key role in modeling appreciative behavior through their own words and actions. Religious and philosophical traditions across the world emphasize appreciation and gratitude. Many

“Instead of focusing solely on problems or limitations, appreciation directs attention toward possibilities and blessings. ” spiritual teachings encourage people to give thanks for life, relationships, and blessings. These traditions recognize that appreciation brings inner peace and spiritual fulfillment. Regardless of religious beliefs, the principle remains universal: appreciating life leads to greater contentment and wisdom. One reason appreciation is so powerful is that it changes perspective. Instead of focusing solely on problems or limitations, appreciation directs attention toward possibilities and blessings. This does not mean ignoring difficulties or pretending everything is perfect. Rather, it means recognizing goodness even in challenging situations. Appreciative people are often more hopeful because they can identify moments of meaning and beauty despite hardship. Appreciation also strengthens emotional resilience during adversity. During difficult periods, support and acknowledgment from others can provide comfort and encouragement. Knowing that one’s efforts or struggles are recognized creates a sense of belonging and hope. In this way, appreciation becomes a source of emotional strength. The workplace provides a clear example of how appreciation influences human behavior. Employees who feel ignored or undervalued often lose motivation and become disengaged. On the other hand, organizations that foster appreciation tend to experience higher morale, stronger teamwork, and improved productivity. Recognition creates a culture of respect where people feel inspired to contribute their best efforts. Similarly, educational systems that value appreciation often produce more confident and motivated students. Students who receive encouragement are more likely to participate actively and believe in their abilities. Appreciation helps create positive learning
environments where growth and creativity flourish. In personal life, appreciation can transform ordinary experiences into meaningful memories. A family dinner, a conversation with a friend, or a quiet walk outdoors may seem simple, yet appreciation allows people to recognize their true value. Happiness is often found not in extraordinary achievements but in the ability to appreciate everyday moments. Moreover, appreciation encourages humility. Recognizing the contributions of others reminds people that success is rarely achieved alone. Every individual depends on the support, kindness, and efforts of others in countless ways. Appreciating these contributions fosters respect and reduces arrogance. The practice of appreciation is especially important during times of uncertainty and global challenges. Economic difficulties, social tensions, and personal struggles can create feelings of fear and negativity. In such moments, appreciation becomes an anchor that helps people remain emotionally balanced and connected to hope. Gratitude does not erase hardship, but it provides strength to endure it. Ultimately, appreciation is more than polite behavior or occasional gratitude. It is a mindset and a way of living. It involves recognizing value in people, experiences, and life itself. Appreciation nurtures emotional health, strengthens relationships, inspires motivation, and creates deeper happiness. It reminds individuals that even in imperfect circumstances, there is always something meaningful to acknowledge and cherish. In conclusion, appreciation is a fundamental human quality with the power to transform lives. It improves relationships, enhances mental and physical well-being, encourages resilience, and promotes kindness and unity. In a society often distracted by material success and constant pressure, appreciation serves as a reminder of what truly matters. By practicing gratitude and recognizing the value of others and ourselves, we create a more compassionate, meaningful, and fulfilling world.

POSITIVE LOVE
oxygen matters COLLABORATIVE HEALING AT AMBER CLINIC.
by Alison McEvoy
“Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is… an incredible tool that delivers up to twenty times more oxygen to your cells than normal breathing.”
28
As I sat in the Hyperbaric oxygen chamber today at Amber Oxygen Clinic, I felt time slow down. My mind entered a state of focussed relaxation. I felt my body’s messages more clearly. The message of tiredness came rushing through. Blanketed within this bubble of calm I had space to listen and respond, instead of choosing to push through or brush off the feeling as inconsequential. That choice, to close my eyes and step back from the world, is something I will remember to do again and again. It was a moment where I realized the power of my choice = change. Ingrida Markovskiene, a native of Lithuania, is the remarkable woman at the helm of the Amber Oxygen Clinic. The core therapy offered is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). Ingrida describes the chamber at the heart of her elegant clinic as having “a stillness that feels more like meditation than medicine. The chamber itself has a refined, calming presence; it feels private, spacious and deeply restorative.” Indeed, I felt these qualities and intentions instantly as I stepped inside the glass doors of the chamber.
INSIDE THE CHAMBER OF CHANGE From within the chamber, communication and visibility is maintained and the pressure is raised incrementally at a comfortable pace. There are breaks, blankets and plenty of leg room to stretch out and breathe deeply. It is both effortless and profound. You breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized environment, allowing the oxygen to diffuse deeply into the bloodstream and tissues, bypassing any issues with circulation which may be present. As Ingrida describes it, “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a beautifully simple and powerful therapy. Inside the chamber, you receive oxygen under pressure – an incredible tool that delivers up to twenty times more oxygen to your cells than normal breathing. The oxygen becomes fuel for healing; stimulating new capillaries, reducing inflammation, and supporting the body’s ability to regenerate.”
POST SURGERY SUPPORT It is understandable then, that HBOT has become a potent tool for those recovering from surgery. Post-surgery, the body's healing capacities are dealing with tissue repair and immune recovery, as well as needing to soothe the mental and emotional stresses of having undergone invasive procedures. Ingrida sees recovery as an interweaving of pathways that support each other and the clinic offers several options which support people on their healing journey; “HBOT forms one of the strongest branches of that network, working deeply within the body’s terrain and supporting the body’s innate intelligence to heal. We combine the science of oxygen with the art of nutrition and the rhythm of lifestyle medicine. HBOT, fasting and ketogenic living are tools and we can help you weave those threads into a plan that’s safe, personalized and deeply restorative.”
SOOTHE THE FLAME For those of us feeling less healthy and energetic than we would like, oftentimes the body doesn’t need much to shift gears away from that which is fuelling our fatigue. Small changes, made consistently over time, make a huge difference. “When people come to see me… when we dig deeper, inflammation is a common thread which emerges. Not the kind that you see or feel acutely, but the silent kind that quietly shapes your health from the inside out. We see inflammation like that wise, slightly loud auntie who means well – the one who calls you before trouble starts. Inflammation is your body’s way of saying “something here needs care. I’m trying to protect you.” Tending to the body in a way that goes beneath and beyond symptoms, especially when those symptoms are hard to pinpoint at first, but we know we are not functioning at our best, is vital. Instead of waiting for that voice to become unrelenting and urgent, for inflammation to become chronic and destructive, it is best to tend to the body’s call for help. “Research has shown HBOT’s benefits in areas ranging from wound healing and neurological recovery to
fatigue, inflammation and immune support. But what makes it so powerful in holistic wellness is its ability to reach beyond symptoms – it nourishes the terrain of the body, the foundation on which health is built.” This foundation is the health and functioning of our cells and the tissues of our body, acting according to their natural intelligence and vitality. HBOT, by delivering pure oxygen deep into the tissues, stimulates the body’s own repair systems and awakens cellular regeneration, all within a restorative environment designed for rest and reflection.
‘HEALING NETWORK’ There’s a lot on offer at Amber Oxygen Clinic and while the star of the show is the impressive HBOT chamber, there is an entire healing network at play within the clinic. Ingrida is aware that healing is not about one miracle cure. Rather, it involves an integrated, intelligent approach. “When people ask what HBOT does, I explain that it is not a single fix – it’s the hub of a healing network. Around it, there are branches; nutrition, fasting, breathing, movement, hydration and even temperature exposure. Each one supports and feeds the others… HBOT gives the body oxygen to heal; ketogenic nutrition and fasting give the body the conditions to stay healed.” “Each positive change you make – an oxygen session, a clean meal, a mindful breath – strengthens that living network of the body. Over time, those small consistent choices shift your biology toward health.” Ingrida holds a deep understanding of what it means to live in a human, intelligent body, to become misaligned from health and to return to wholeness. She and her family have lived this journey since the birth of their son, over fifteen years ago, who was allergic to much of what he encountered and suffered tremendously as an infant. It was there that Ingrida’s journey began and here that it has culminated thus far, within the walls of Amber Oxygen Clinic.

the secret to
living fearlessly SEEING LIFE FROM THE OTHER SIDE. by Persephone Kianka
Anita Moorjani, the bestselling author known for her astounding near-death experience (NDE), is devoted to sharing a simple yet profound truth she realised on the other side. In 2006, her four-year battle with cancer ended with her falling into a coma, which she was never expected to wake from. Little did her doctors and loved ones know, in this state she was having an NDE where she was given the choice to return to her physical body or stay in this other realm. After choosing to come back, she woke from the coma, and her cancer rapidly began to heal. To everyone around her, it was inexplicable, but Anita had returned with the crystal-clear knowing that her body would heal and why it had gotten sick in the first place. When we sat down to chat with her, she shared the details of what she saw and learned on the other side, how it’s affected her life since, and what it means for us as a collective.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING The first thing that facilitated her healing, she explained, was seeing who she really was, underneath the sick person she appeared to be. “The simplest way I can say it is that I learned that the most important thing was self-love”; a revolutionary realisation after a lifetime of people-pleasing and treating herself like a “doormat”, as encouraged by her culture. Before this, Anita had been fearful of everything, such as displeasing people and expressing her true self, to the point that she made herself invisible. It was only after her NDE that she realised she wasn’t meant to live like that. “I would see God in everyone else’s eyes, but I had never seen God in my own eyes, and I was just as much an expression of God as everyone else.”
WALKING THE PATH We asked Anita how this profound understanding has shaped her subsequent life experience, and her response may not be what you expect. When you have an NDE, it isn’t just a once-off experience, she explained; it’s like a door has been opened and you walk through that door, meaning even once you’re back in your body, it keeps unfolding because you’re now going in a different direction. You still have free will, but like Anita, you will likely choose to go down a more empowering path now that you understand
your true nature as a powerful creator. All the information you receive on the other side is so expansive and hard to fit into the human perspective, in a sense, so it takes time to integrate after you come back. “You keep walking the path that it’s shown you so that more and more awakens in you as you’re walking,” she told us. Even now she feels that she’s still being guided by that experience, as she chooses to live with and through it.
THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE She admits that being on the other side is easier, which is why her consciousness didn’t want to come back initially, but after realising she still had a purpose to fulfil here, she decided to. She wants to make it clear, however, that knowing the truth doesn’t mean life is always easy for her. She still retains some traits from her upbringing, which never socialised her to be assertive, let alone a public speaker. “I would never have imagined this life for me,” she mused. That being said, the more she naturally grows into this new life, the more she feels like her real self. It feels really right, but at the same time like she’s constantly being pushed outside of her human comfort zone. If she receives negative comments or reviews, for example, it still affects her emotionally and makes her question herself. Like most of us, she also gets overwhelmed by all the suffering in the world and doubts whether she can make a real difference. She’s still human, but looking back on her journey, she can say, “I really have manifested everything I wanted to, even though it felt painful sometimes”.
ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE The impact of Anita’s cultural background on her soul’s journey led us to discuss what cultures mean from a spiritual perspective. “I see it all as like a costume, like a fun game; it’s not who we really are,” Anita shared with assuredness. The same goes for our gender, race, religion and any other identity marker. After suffering immensely due to the gender disparity in her culture, it was a great relief for her to realise that we shed all of these classifications, and accompanying emotional baggage, in the afterlife. “Without all of that, who you are underneath is pure consciousness and pure consciousness is pure love,” she assured us.
This realisation has allowed Anita to understand that many people who are destructive in this world by imposing their beliefs on others genuinely believe they are doing good because of the way they’ve been indoctrinated. In essence, we are all the same; we’re just playing different roles in humancreated dramas, which will all become irrelevant when we die. Therefore, Anita urges us to see through these illusions now so we have the opportunity to get closer to the other souls around us while we’re still on Earth.
THE LANGUAGE OF SOULS She also had wisdom to share for anyone struggling to connect with a loved one, informed by her challenging relationship with her dad, who passed away ten years before her NDE. During his life, she always felt that he was ashamed of her for rebelling against their culture. Therefore, when she encountered him again in the afterlife, she expected judgement, but to her amazement she received the opposite. “All I got from him was pure unconditional love,” she said, and she also finally understood that he had been a victim of the same culture. In that other realm, their two souls merged, and she knew what he wanted her to know without words. It was actually him who encouraged her to go back and live her life fearlessly, illustrating the transformative power of reconnecting with one’s true nature: love. “He was the one that instilled fear in me in life, but in death he set me free from that fear.” Therefore, if you want to communicate with someone difficult in your life, Anita recommends you imagine talking to their soul, which they will feel because we’re all part of the same consciousness. Given that they have been indoctrinated a certain way in this life, this often works better than talking to their physical self. If it’s a deceased person, she assures us that they hold no animosity towards us. They want us to be happy and are helping us from the other side. Interestingly, she believes that the loved ones who caused us the most pain in life are usually the ones helping us the most from the other side. This makes sense as the truth they realise after dying is so vastly different to what they believed during their lifetime.

A MIRROR BALL OF CONSCIOUSNESS In light of her profound experience and understanding, of course we had to ask Anita what our human existence is all about from a higher perspective. While it’s hard to put into words, she explained, “it feels like it is a collective consciousness” encompassing the most evolved version of each of us, which is on the other side, pulling us towards that evolution. The mirror ball analogy she gave us makes this a little clearer. Imagine a mirror or disco ball where each mirror tile is the soul of one person, and there are billions of them. Even though you can identify them as individual tiles, they’re all connected to the same ball. Then, imagine that the light each one refracts onto a wall is a physical person, so each speck of light on the wall looks and feels separate from the others. In other words, when each soul is projected onto a physical life form, as a human, you feel separate, but when you remerge with your soul, you remember we’re all one. In essence, the mirror ball, representing all our souls united as one, is
the most perfect version of who we are.
THE WAY FORWARD Anita acknowledges that our collective values up until now—ruthlessness, competition, and constant expansion—are leading to the detriment of humankind and the planet. “We will be at the brink of our own extinction if we don’t change the metrics of what it means to be strong and if we don’t start rewarding different traits and see those as strengths,” she cautioned. We’ve been rewarding all these harmful traits and heralding people who possess them as the ones who should lead the world, which is why so many of our resources are being used to destroy and kill. She believes changing this starts with us, as individuals, being kind to ourselves and the people around us, including strangers. “You’d be surprised how much [kindness] spreads,” she remarked. It sounds cliché, but it’s true that little acts of kindness can go a long way and eventually change the world. Anita recalls offering to pay for a
stranger in line ahead of her in a store who couldn’t afford what she wanted to buy. It was just a couple of dollars and not a big deal to Anita, but the woman started crying after Anita said, “Let me pay for this for you”. The cashier, who was about to put the item back, was also moved, which in turn touched Anita, showing the powerful chain reaction of kindness.
SECRETS FROM THE AFTERLIFE At our full-day event with Anita in October in partnership with Seminars.ie, she will be able to go into more depth on all of this, especially given the location. You see, the last time she visited Ireland, she noticed that it’s a place that really welcomes psychics and healers, and “feels like home to people who are connected to the other world”. “So, I feel doing a workshop in a space like that with energy like that, I can take people a lot deeper in their journey and a lot deeper in their learning and their understanding of the afterlife,” she told us excitedly. She’s going to start off by sharing her story, then talk to people about how

to break through their belief systems. To assist with this process, she will take participants through a simulated NDE. The title of the event, Secrets from the Afterlife, is actually the title of the new book she’s working on, she revealed. Having spent more time living these truths and putting them into practice in the world, this will go even deeper than her first book, Dying to Be Me, about what she learned on the other side.
SCIENCE MEETS SPIRITUALITY We also went on a little trip down memory lane with Anita about when that book was published; after reading it, Dr Bruce Lipton was amazed to find she had experienced what he talks about. When he met her at a publishing event in 2012, he actually said to her, “I read your book, and you are the poster child of what I talk about,” she recalled. They’ve been friends since, and for people who want a scientific understanding of what happened to her, she refers them to Bruce’s work.
“What I love is he puts science to what happened to me,” she shared. Likewise, when people want to know a lived example of how belief influences biology, Bruce tells them, “go to Anita Moorjani’s event, and you’ll realise what it is that I’m talking about”. The timing of our upcoming events, with Bruce’s lecture in November taking place shortly after Anita’s workshop, offers participants the wonderful opportunity to get the full picture—Anita’s lived experience and Bruce’s scientific explanation—from two phenomenal speakers and spiritual teachers. You can purchase tickets to both through our website linked below.
A FINAL MESSAGE As a final message, Anita wanted to tell our audience, “Don’t buy into the fear that’s being generated in the world right now. I know people are suffering, but the best way you can help people who are suffering is by uplifting yourself and then being there as an uplifted self for other people.
Don’t feel like you have to be downtrodden in order to help the world, or don’t feel guilty if your life is going well, because remember we are all connected. When you bring a positive energy, a positive vibe to yourself, you’re actually contributing to the whole.” It is comforting to know, especially for us empaths as I’m sure many of our readers are, that expressing ourselves fully is actually the most selfless thing we can do. As we shine our unique light unapologetically, it will naturally cause those around us to brighten too, until the beauty of our collective mirror ball is seen and felt by all.

from competition
to co-operation RE-CREATING A CONSCIOUS CIVILIZATION. by Alison McEvoy
Bruce Lipton is a best-selling author, epigenetics pioneer and a former medical school professor. His new book ‘Beyond Darwin’ releases this August and we sat down with him in advance of its release to find out what his most recent message for humanity is. Civilizations throughout time have had their beginning, flourishing, decline and ending. Many remains exist, some more intricate than others. Standing in Palenque, the ruins of a sophisticated Mayan city in Mexico which perished in the 8th Century, a realization ran through me. I came to understand that our cities, constructions and civilization too would end up this way, for one reason or another. What I didn’t imagine, was that we might take nature down with us. The natural world has persisted through all these rebirths and declines. Without nature; the soil, the trees, the rivers and plants…there is no rebirth, no renaissance - nothing left to live off while we ponder, imagine and recreate our civilizations time and again. We cannot forget that nature is our foundation and must not be endangered through the twists and turns of our evolution and yet, this is where we find ourselves. In a state of forgotten remembrance that we are nature and destroying nature means stripping ourselves of the ability to live, dream and build on this earth. “We are not sustainable as a civilization. We have one planet. We’re destroying the eco-system, the web of life. We are polluting the air, oceans…we are destroying ourselves.”
ENTERING THE COCOON As the destruction phase continues, people will start waking up as they are affected by the void left in the wake of decaying resources. Herein lies the hope for a rebirth before the destruction reaches the
planet in its entirety. Bruce has a powerful metaphor for this phase. “Our civilization is like a caterpillar. It is voracious. It will eat everything it can eat and when it runs out of food it goes into the pupa and the reason is this – it can no longer continue living the way it was living. When it runs out of resources all the cells that had a job don’t have a job anymore… they have no work…the organs start to break down…the caterpillar, the cells, the community [of cells] have lost all their jobs… [However,] in that community there are specialized cells. These are the cells that see another way of living. These cells organize the soup of cells to say let’s create a better version…assemble into a butterfly.” “The butterfly hardly even touches the planet. The butterfly has the least footprint on the planet.” The swing from being the voracious caterpillar to the light-footed butterfly is the vision which Bruce carries for our civilisation. It involves a total re-organization of being - a complete transformation. The caterpillar is nothing like the butterfly.
CULTURAL CREATIVES PAVE THE WAY The ‘specialized cells’ which Bruce speaks of amid the metaphor, are the ‘cultural creatives’ of our society. These are the people he envisions, calls out to and champions as the rebirthers of our civilization. “The cultural creatives are going to manifest a new civilization… They are the seeds of a new civilization.” These are the people who stand outside the system as it is, either by choice of by finding themselves without the necessary resources and work to survive within it. Bruce shares crucial advice from his position as a wise elder, for these cultural
creatives. Finding themselves outside of or struggling with a system which is organizing the society they live in causes stress, tension and a depletion of the very creativity and courage that they need to reorganize society. “Start to build up community. We only have power in community. When people are in stress, they separate and protect themselves…you wall yourself off from everything… The only way around survival stress is to form community… people working together – this is the return to power.”
FOUNDATIONS FOR COMMUNITY Unsurprisingly, part of the philosophical foundation which this civilization was developed from by the people at the time of its conception, is one which fosters competition rather than community. It is Darwin’s theory of ‘survival of the fittest in the struggle for life.’ This philosophical underpinning, this shared belief, has led to a civilization which competes rather than unites. One in which the ‘strongest’, or those in most powerful positions, feel entitled to most of the wealth and resources. “1% of people own half the wealth and the other 99% are competing with each other for what’s left of the pie. We have to stop that competition… Life is not a struggle. It’s wrong. The philosophy is wrong. The competition that results is wrong… Darwinian theory is wrong and so we’re creating a civilization based on a wrong foundation.” If the wealth was spread out, we might see that the competition is not real. It is manufactured by the hoarding and hiding of resources. So, are we happy to continue the fray inside the arena of the amphitheatre of life while the upper echelons look on from the top tiers? Surely not.
Bruce returns to the wisdom of the ancients, backed by quantum physics and more, to show us that life is not in fact a race, a struggle, a contest between the fittest contenders, it is in fact a garden which are we part of, responsible for and deeply connected to. “The garden from which we come is the height of co-operation. The garden is not a battleground. Every organism in the garden is participating in the community. The garden is community!”
TENDING THE GARDEN The first step for Bruce is to tend to ourselves, to the piece of the garden that we in fact are as part of life and nature ourselves, human children of the mother earth. “Who do we think we are!? We are nature. We should be listening to nature… Before you can change the world take care of your own backyard…Each of us is a creator. We’re not creating the whole world, we’re creating our piece of the world.” As we each tend to our piece of the world, care for the homes we live in, the workplaces we frequent, the streets we walk and the lives we touch on a regular basis, we are contributing to a vastly greater good. We must also remember to work together in this caretaking and tending. The vision which the wise elders of our time are calling upon is an ancient vision where men and women worked together in co-operation and harmony, thus breaking the pattern of domination and suppression of women and enabling women to free up their full potential and creative input into society, rather than struggling under
thumbs of oppression and fear. “The women got left out with the development of the church. Before the church, the Greeks were the civilization that were shaping our world and in that civilization the women played a major role. They were the priestesses of that civilization… When the church took over, they had to get rid of the women because the women had that awareness, that consciousness and they needed to break the women…move from a maternal society to a paternal society. Eve became evil… Mary Magdalene was called a whore, and she was actually a queen...They needed to demote women.” “[Now] it requires both men and women to live in harmony and to manifest this world. It’s not a man’s world… [it’s] co -dominance of male and female.” Tending the garden thus involves both getting “back out and roll up our sleeves” through growing from the earth in our own patches, but also in “gardening with people to help them grow and fertilize our minds.” Nurturing, encouraging and validating each other’s creativity and highest self-expression is the opposite of a survival competition where we are stuck operating from the oldest parts of our brain. Bruce shares a vision that is a call to action which sees us emerging from the ‘survival of the fittest, hyper-competitive civilization to a more evolved state which engages our higher consciousness to form a co-operative, peaceful, creative civilization where people live well and enjoy life to the fullest.
ACTIVATING THE NEW PHILOSOPHY With a new philosophy, a new programme, running a new civilization life can become a ‘heaven on earth’. If we go to the microcosm and look at one individual life, we know that the first seven years of a human life are the ones in which we receive all our personal programming. We are in observer mode as children, watching, receiving information from the adults and others around us which sets a programme in motion for how we see life, live life and interpret life from aged seven onwards. Many of us will know how difficult it is to change that programme, to alter those belief systems and complexes of thought. They are wired into us deeply even if, as adults, we begin to realize that those patterns of behaviour, belief and emotion programmed into us do not serve our current desires, hopes and dreams. Bruce identifies the education system as one way in which we can reach young people purposefully, and nurture their creativity, activating programmes which will allow them to flourish. Another way we can find ourselves plucked out from under the thumb of our both our personal programming and the overarching civilization’s philosophy, is when we fall in love. “The brain is a computer. In the first seven years of life, it functions at a lower vibration called theta. It is observing others and getting programmes. Downloads of how to behave… When you fall in love you stop playing the programme and you
become creative…the heaven on earth… the honeymoon… Why can’t we have a honeymoon every day of your life? You can. It’s just a programme that destroys it and that’s why half of the marriages fall apart. When you fell in love you were not playing the programme but as the programme starts to play – and most of them are negative – the relationship changes from honeymoon to regular life…”
CONSCIOUS EVOLUTION For those of us well past the age of seven, the way forward involves a conscious evolution, taking us away from the current chaos among each other and destruction of the earth’s resources. We are required to consciously step away from the current underpinning philosophy of competition and survival of the fittest. This conscious evolution is what Bruce is championing and wants to propel people towards. During his evening lecture this November, co-hosted by Positive Nights and Seminars.ie, Bruce intends to discuss his new book ‘Beyond Darwin; How Epigenetics, Quantum Science and Co-operation Shape Humanity’s Future’ and to empower people with the knowledge needed to make this shift in consciousness. “Knowledge is power. I will explain how you get programmed. I will explain how you get out of the programme because I want people to have their power and the knowledge I’m offering is personal empowerment where people can take their power back and become the real creators that each one of us is. And if you take your creative power, you will manifest heaven on earth if you get it out of the hands of the people who have the power now.” “I want people to have the power [to get out of the programme]. Why? Because I trust the people…people have the same
wishes; health, happiness, peace, safety, a job, they all want the same thing.”
HOPE ‘Where there is life, there is hope’ (Marcus Tullius Cicero) We are all still here, we are alive and thus a brighter future is possible. When I walk along the seafront in Dublin, I sometimes wander back in time in my mind and imagine how beautiful it must have been when those seas were crystal clear. I’m glad that my son can still splash in the water surrounding our beautiful island, in certain places, but given the rate of change, I often feel sad for what my great grandchildren might find when they walk to the coast of Dublin. I hope that what they see, smell, feel will lift their spirits and that hope translates into many small actions that I take and many others that I chose not to take. My hope, for example, translates into not pouring bleach down my toilet and not using ‘unsafe for marine life’ dishwashing liquid or detergents. Let’s translate our hopes, dreams and wishes for life on earth into as many actions
and attitudes as possible. The soil of our lives is where we can plant seeds that will grow into a better future. The fundamental mode of hope Bruce identifies is that of operation from CO-OPERATION, and not competition. Co-operation with each other, across genders and with the environment. It is this that will ensure the transformation of our civilization and survival of our planet and ourselves. “The natives…whether druids from Europe or Native Americans…or aborigines in Australia, all saw that the environment, the eco-system was a garden and they all said – we are gardeners. That’s our job.” Bruce Lipton’s new book ‘Beyond Darwin’ releases on August 18th, 2026. Come join us in November for a very special evening with Bruce.

POSITIVE FOOD
the cornucopia story,
your story, my story
LIFE, LOVE & HEALING BEHIND THE SCENES OF OUR WHOLEFOODS HAVEN by Alison McEvoy Something came over me at the age of fourteen years (in the late nineties). It was an intuitive turn of sorts - away from the habits and lifestyle of my family of origin towards a more body & mind-conscious diet and lifestyle. I struck out on a path all of a sudden…figured out what chickpeas were and how to cook them…pestered my father to drive me out to the only farmers market I could find, halfway across the city...took up a yoga class in the local church hall among the forty-something women of the locality. I felt invigorated in a way I never had before. I felt my body becoming light, my mind clearing of uncertainties and fogginess, and, eventually, an emotional strength dawning in me. Four years later, preparing myself to enter university at Trinity College, I found myself not so much wondering about clubs and classes but scanning the yellow pages for somewhere vegetarian to eat. Cornucopia jumped out from the neon yellow page at me! For the next four years, from Monday to Friday, and an odd weekend too, it became my wholefood haven. Back then, eating in Cornucopia felt like
dropped in my lap at fourteen and was guiding me, came from. However, reading Deirdre O’Mara McCafferty’s memoir of Cornucopia, Dublin’s beloved wholefood restaurant, I felt my own journey becoming clearer. The why’s and how’s being filled in a way I could never have imagined.
FOUNDATIONS OF HOPE & HEALING
a Viking feast with the long tables where you sat shoulder to shoulder with kind and unusual strangers. It was a community in itself - when you got to Cornucopia you were among kin and there was always a like-minded conversation to share in. It was a balm for me, away from the silence and solitariness of the library – a place where I felt nourished in body, mind and heart. I’ve reflected many times and have had no idea where this golden thread that had
The story of Cornucopia shows how much can be woven into an establishment when it is created from a place of true intention, and from within a fully lived life. ‘The Cornucopia Story’ brings to life the roots of this forty-year-old, much-loved landmark of Wicklow Street. It is a tale of following the heart…and finding love. Of living life… and encountering loss. All underpinned by a dedication to hope and a belief in healing. Cornucopia was lived into being through the lives of Deirdre and Neil. What they built within the walls of Cornucopia spread a light and a hope far beyond those walls. I feel that light, that hope, that alternative way to live and be, is what reached me at fourteen years of age. It lit
up the collective consciousness of Ireland and, for me, meeting Deirdre and hearing her journey felt like looking at a pioneer whose shoulders I have been standing on all along. The Cornucopia Story is their story, but it’s also my story and perhaps your story too. ‘This story really wanted to be written. It wasn’t easy. I was scared. I had trepidation about being so open with my personal story but there was a drive in me from inside my heart to tell it,’ recalls Deirdre.
THE JOURNEY ‘Someone has written something new in the ashes of your life. You are not leaving, you are arriving.’ (David Whyte, The Journey) ‘During 1974, our first year together, Neil and I fell deeply in love…On June 12th (1975) we flew to New York and planned to take the train to Boston the next day…all I felt was the excitement of youth and the thrill of adventure. It was later that I would feel the sting of loneliness and displacement, a pain that would be transformational.’ (Extract ‘The Cornucopia Story’) The political and economic tensions of Ireland at the time led to emigration for the young couple at the dawn of their love story. What follows is a story of immense resilience amid the twists and turns of life in the US at that moment in time. When Deirdre stumbled upon the Hippocrates Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, and makes a two-week stay there in July 1981, a pivot in their path that leads to the creation of Cornucopia is turned.
THE IMPORTANCE OF FOOD ‘I didn’t have any consciousness about food initially in Ireland. I was very focussed on social change… I was completely unaware of inner change being necessary…I was still meat and two veg, traditional Irish food. It makes me realise how much of a product of our era we are… In the course of working at a health spa in New York, then the Women’s Athletic Club in Boston. I became interested in the idea of ‘what is well-being?’. I used to record the women’s fitness, and I noticed that the women would be less fit on a Monday because they had been eating and drinking and making merry all weekend. I noted that and I thought - that must be food. Food must be important.’ This spark in Deirdre’s mind eventually changed the course of the era in Ireland that followed the creation of Cornucopia. The evolution of the inquiry into health, well-being and healing is the story behind Cornucopia. Deirdre followed a trail peppered with books, personal epiphanies, conversations, chance encounters, changes in diet and the emergence of the inspiration to create ‘the best health centre in Dublin!’ (‘The Cornucopia Story’) The Hippocrates Institute played a profound role in generating a paradigm shift in Deirdre’s understanding of life, health and healing; ‘In holistic health, I learned that the healing unfolds in a specific sequence of phases… At first there is a great emphasis on the physical aspects of healing – what we eat and drink and how we exercise our bodies. We then become interested in the psychology of healing past traumas and developing positive mental attitudes. The
“I had trepidation about being so open with my personal story but there was a drive in me from inside my heart to tell it.”
third phase is becoming more aware of the spiritual dimension of ourselves and building a connection to the divine in whatever way we experience it… It was extremely fortunate to discover this rich field for a career.’
THE RETURN It was Deirdre’s love of Ireland that drew the couple home, and thus the consciousness awakened in the US landed in Ireland. Cornucopia’s doors eventually opened on the streets of Dublin’s city centre in 1985. ‘And so the momentous decision was made. We were returning home after nine long years to pursue something in holistic health, though we were not yet sure exactly what… It is hard to describe the happiness I felt upon returning. It coursed through my whole body, a bit like when first falling in love… This was the power of heritage, of really belonging somewhere.’ (‘The Cornucopia Story’) The release of ‘The Cornucopia Story’ coincides with its fortieth birthday. ‘The Cornucopia Story: A Tale of Love and Loss, Hope and Healing’ is published by Liffey Press and is available to buy online and in bookstores across the country, retailing at €24.95. We at Positive Life wish Cornucopia a continued legacy of inspiring health, joy and a community Spirit in Dublin and beyond.

Tracking Nature, Tracking Spirit THE CALL OF THE WILD.
by John Lockley A story is like a thousand raindrops spreading its fragrance from distant shores beyond time and space. Tracking is about connecting with your personal story. It is said in Africa that a shaman is called before their birth. They are called through the vision of their parents. My life story began in this traditional way on a cold, windy day in the 1950’s on Dun Laoghaire pier, Dublin. My mother was out walking and had a vision of a herd of African elephants calling her to Africa. I was subsequently born in South Africa beneath Table Mountain, Cape Town, with the mark of a Xhosa sangoma (African shaman)—white birth skin— around my eyes. To connect with the story of my birth, I journeyed to Ireland for 7 years and wrote my book ‘Leopard Warrior’ near the shores of the Irish Sea, the Vico Baths in Dalkey. The Leopard is one of the main totem animals in South Africa, revered for its noble spirit, independence, fierceness, and intuitive intelligence. To become a leopard warrior, one needs to merge the inner and outer worlds and become like the leopard and dance between light and dark, stepping beyond dualism. A friend, Craig Foster (filmmaker of ‘My Octopus Teacher’), recommended that I swim in the Irish Sea every day and learn to track the movements of the sea and the creatures that befriend me. This experience was deeply impactful, flooding me with spiritual downloads and fresh insights. It helped pave the way for my ‘Way of the Leopard’ teachings, which incorporate inner and outer tracking. Inner tracking involves connecting with our bones (ancestors), our spirit
and our dreams. It incorporates the ancient teachings of ‘Ubuntu’ (humanity) transmitted down the ages from one sangoma to the next in a timeless oral tradition spanning thousands of years. Outer tracking is about following the tracks in the sand, interspecies dialogue, animal communication and behaviour. It speaks about the ancient art of telepathy, the language of the animal kingdom. After my book was published, I felt called to teach people indigenous African tracking skills from the heart of the Kalahari Desert, reputed to be the birthplace of humankind. Some of the earliest human remains have been discovered in the Kalahari Desert. It is an ancient land and unapologetically wild, undomesticated and largely untouched by the Western world. The Leopard first made an appearance in my life when I was 16 years old in Botswana. I was woken to the sounds of voices: “John, wake up, wake up! There is a leopard nearby”. We climbed onto the roof of our Land Rover and watched a large male leopard drinking from a nearby stream. Something unspoken moved between us. A few months after my book spread its wings and flew around the world, like a child I helped create, the leopard visited me in my dreams, calling me to help educate people to the mysteries of Africa. I befriended a well-known ‘Leopard tracker’ and safari guide in Botswana called Alwyn Myburgh. One day, Alwyn phoned me with a sense of urgency in his voice. He recalled a fascinating dialogue he had with a wild leopard in the Okavango Delta called
43
BRE ATHING SPACE
‘Matsebe’. He had befriended Matsebe about ten years previously and often spent time sitting with her. In his animal communication or telepathy with Matsebe, he said Matsebe wanted to download sacred information to me, and he asked how soon I could fly to Botswana. Alwyn said Matsebe was old and wasn’t long for this world, her time was nearing, and he wanted me to meet her. I was on a book tour in North America, and I told him I would join him in a few months' time. Unfortunately, Matsebe died just before I arrived in Botswana. She left a legacy of animal communication and a sturdy group of human friends dedicated to conservation and a deeper appreciation for the animal kingdom. I spent days under the hot sun tracking leopard, lion roars, and elephant delegations. I was rewarded. As the sun was setting in the Okavango Delta, we saw a flicker of yellow and, much to our delight, we encountered one of Matsebe’s offspring, her granddaughter. And true to her word, I was blessed to
receive the transmission of sacred African knowledge. There was a stirring in the ether. In the space between the flick of her granddaughter’s tail, something ineffable was transmitted to me. I decided to call my African retreats ‘Dreams and Tracking in the Kalahari Desert’. Before our first retreat in 2020, I asked Alwyn if he had seen Matsebe in his dreams. He said he hadn’t dreamt about her for some time. I gave him some sacred African sage called ‘impepho’ and told him how to burn it and make a few prayers. The next morning, he greeted me with a large smile. Matsebe had visited him in his dreams. He said she had walked in the bushveld, about a 20-minute drive from our campsite. After breakfast, we jumped in the jeep and drove to the place in Alwyn’s dream. Just before we got there, Alwyn became very quiet and pointed to the tracks in the sand near the vehicle. There was a stillness in the air as we journeyed to a mystical realm. In his dream, he saw two young leopards
which matched the tracks in the sand. He recounted his dream and how Matsebe walked next to the young leopards. We felt her presence, an otherworldly whisper from a timeless space, beckoning, calling and encouraging us to continue our work. John Lockley has been a traditional South African shaman known as a sangoma for 30 years. To date, John and Alwyn have completed 12 retreats in the Kalahari Desert and Okavango Delta, spanning 6 years. Their retreats are the only eco-safari tour in Africa today that teaches African indigenous technology (African shamanism) in the form of Sangoma medicine. John will be returning to Ireland on October 16th for a one-day Positive Nights workshop www.johnlockley.com www.positivelife.ie/events

Dorlindon- A Window Into Other Realms REDISCOVER THE MAGIC OF THE FOREST.
by Siofra O’Donovan, writer in residence in Dorlindon Forest Dorlindon is said to be a magical, hidden elven forest... “Long ago, beyond the mountains, old tales speak of a dark forest, that no stranger could ever reach... or so it was thought. A clan of Dwarves settled in the southern part of the forest, digging a deep mine that, alas, a Dragon made into its lair”. Dorlindon is a Nature Sanctuary like no other. Sitka Spruce aplenty, Alder, Elder, Ash, Birch, Beech, Oak, Rowan, Willow and Maple trees all thrive here within and between which live deer, foxes, red squirrels, pine Martens, otters, hedgehogs, shrews, badgers, lizards, newts, frogs and rabbits, who converse with elves, along with dragonflies and damselflies, red kites, swifts, swallows, buzzards, kingfisher, moorhen and mallard ducks (and occasionally Icelandic geese, among others) in the lake and the islets within Dorlindon Forest. What are those whispers? Bushcraft,
Yoga, Meditation, Haiku poetry, Faery Tale writing, Storytelling, Traditional Arts and Crafts, Painting and more. There are also Guided Nature Adventure Walks and school tours, and of course you can get married or renew your vows here! Everything works in harmony with the natural surroundings—sometimes in the library, sometimes in the Glass House, other times in the Merry Woods Tavern or in the wild forest itself. This is where you can Forest Bathe (Jap. Shinrin-yoku), breathe, and leave the world you know behind. The Ancient Music Festival began last year in the Cathedral of Trees, and this year saw its second edition with Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classic Irish Trad, Vocal, Norse Music, and prehistoric sounds. One is transported back in time with evocative, rich tones from traditional Irish pipes to Irish Bouzouki, blockflöte, bodhrán, harp, horn, flute, whistles, even the Bronze Age horn. This year’s festival
featured Liam Ó’Maonlaí, the Dublin Trio, Traditional Arts Collective, Paul Dooley and Kseniya Russak, The Earls of Ormond, Ancient Music Ireland, Eternum, Ravensdale and much, much more. The Ancient Music Festival is endorsed by RTE Supporting the Arts. Workshops and events run until the winter when the land sleeps, yet the lotuses stay in bloom until December. Love Your Face – The Ancient Art of Face Reading A MAP OF OUR INNER WORLD.
by Deirdre Courtney Face reading is an ancient art that invites us to see the human face as a living map that reflects personality, life experiences and potential. Rooted in traditions that span thousands of years, particularly in Chinese and Eastern philosophies, face reading offers a unique way of seeing people, not just for how they look, but for who they are. The foundation of face reading is the belief that we are born with the face we need for our life journey. Each of us encounters different challenges, opportunities and experiences, and our features reflect the tools we’ve been given to navigate them. In this way, the face becomes a map that reveals how we think, feel and interact with the world. Our inner world is mirrored on the outside. Every feature has meaning; the shape of the eyebrows, for example, can show how quickly someone makes decisions. The nose may indicate whether a person thrives working independently or as part of a team. The size of the ears can suggest a tendency toward risk-taking, whether financially or physically. When you begin to look at faces in this way, you start to see patterns and insights that go far beyond first impressions. Face reading has long been used in relationships and business to understand compatibility. When people share similar features, it often indicates shared values or ways of approaching life. Even one
48 48
matching feature can create a sense of ease and understanding between individuals, whether in partnerships, friendships or professional settings. Another aspect of face reading is understanding how people operate, particularly in work environments. The face can be divided into three zones. The upper zone, from the eyebrows to the hairline, is the thinking zone, linked to analysis, ideas, and reflection. Someone with a larger upper zone may need time to gather information before making decisions. The middle zone, from the eyebrows to under the nose, is the practical zone focused on action, logic, and getting things done. The lower zone, from under the nose to the chin, is the feeling zone connected to intuition and gut responses. The face reveals whether we are living in balance with our constitution. In face reading, certain markings known as Jing markers can indicate how well we are caring for ourselves. Jing refers to our essence in Chinese medicine, our core constitution. For example, horizontal lines on the bridge of the nose (associated with age 40), the philtrum area (around age 50), or the chin (around age 60) may appear earlier if we are out of balance. These signs can suggest that our body is under strain, perhaps from poor diet, lack of rest or ongoing stress. Our faces can also reflect aspects of our health. Subtle changes in colour or
texture may point to imbalances in the body. For instance, discolouration above the upper lip can sometimes indicate food sensitivities, while changes under the eyes may reflect fatigue or adrenal stress. Even lines and wrinkles can tell a story; lines between the eyebrows may relate to frustration, while lines at the sides of the mouth can suggest disappointment. Our face tells our story. It reflects what we have lived through, learned and overcome. Rather than something to criticise, the face is something to appreciate. The feature you may like the least could, in fact, be one of your greatest strengths. Face reading invites us to look again with curiosity, compassion and a deeper awareness. And once you begin, you may never see a face the same way again.
Join us for an upcoming weekend workshop and begin your journey into the fascinating world of face reading. Location: Killiney Castle. Date: 19th/20th September theinstituteoffacereading.com/ Email: info@theinstituteoffacereading.com

The Magic Of Microgreens AN EASY WAY TO ENHANCE YOUR DIET.
by Persephone Kianka Dainty Greens is an Irish-Mexican family business based in Fingal, offering certified organic microgreens nationwide. When we sat down to chat with Carol, one of the founders, she shared the backstory behind their delightful business and where it’s at now. It all started back in 2018, she explained, when her husband was working as a chef. After noticing a gap in the market for microgreens, the pair started growing them for restaurants, but soon Carol made it her mission to offer them to the general public so they could reap the benefits as well. “Many people in Ireland are still unaware of what microgreens are,” she told us, which is unfortunate when they have so much to offer. Microgreens are young vegetable greens harvested when they are about 10-20 days old, meaning they retain up to 40 times more nutrients than they normally would. To give people the opportunity to
maximise this nutritional value, they created a kit that allows them to grow their own microgreens at home. Like many people, Carol once felt daunted by the idea of growing plants herself, but with the kits available on their website, she proves how easy it can be. The kits come in three varieties— broccoli, radish and rocket—because they are the easiest to grow, and include everything you need to grow them at home. In just ten days, you will have flavourful microgreens which you can add to salads, sandwiches, smoothies, or any meal as a fresh garnish. Carol’s favourite way to use the broccoli is to add it to a kefir smoothie with blueberries and chia! People can also make an appointment to come to their greenhouse in Dublin 11 and select microgreens to take home in person.

Culture As Medicine
THE NEED FOR COLLECTIVE CONTEMPLATION.
by Persephone Kianka WISE - The Future Festival & Think Tank is a global summit at the intersection of music, art and technology that brings together thought leaders across the creative industries, the tech community and science to facilitate an open dialogue on pertinent, societal issues. This year, I had the opportunity to attend as a volunteer, which allowed me to listen in on some fascinating discussions, including “Culture as Medicine: Can Live Events & Art Improve Public Health?” In light of the current mental health crisis, exacerbated by social media, the speakers stressed the importance of creating ways for people to connect with themselves and others in “the real world”. As cultural brand strategist, Yousef Hammoudah noted, there are no moments of stillness anymore due to our trained need for constant mental stimulation; even while going to the toilet or brushing our teeth, most of us put on a podcast or a video. As the founding executive director of Fotografiska Berlin, a contemporary museum of photography, art, and culture, he has observed that “people go through an exhibition the same way they scroll through the feed”. The museum experience has been reduced to a checklist, with guests rushing to gather enough talking
points for the dinner table and pictures for Instagram to prove they are artistic, interesting people, rather than engaging with the art for its own sake. As a mindfulness teacher, Yousef helps people become more aware of how they interact with the world, encouraging mindful “seeing, hearing, feeling”. At WISE, he asked us, “How do you feel?” and invited us to spend ten seconds focusing on how we actually feel. Much to my surprise, I felt a deep sense of relief and groundedness as I became reembodied, perhaps for the first time that day. “Museums are modern temples of mindfulness, of contemplation, if we use them that way,” he said, illustrating the benefits of consciously interacting with culture. There is also the question of how to get more people into these spaces in the first place, which ticketing entrepreneur and managing director of AXS Germany, Arndt Scheffler, addressed. The ticketing platform Tickets For Good, which just launched in Germany, aims to fix one of the enduring issues in live entertainment: not every seat gets sold. “Our aim is to take those spare seats and distribute them to the people who keep society moving. We reward low-wage educators, those in the health service,
those in the charity sector, those in the voluntary sector,” Arndt shared. In the UK, they’ve been doing detailed research on the impact of bringing people to events they wouldn’t normally go to, which reveals the sense of emotional balance and inclusion they experience. There is also empirical evidence that, for medium-sized festivals, the inclusion of people using unsold ticket inventory leads not only to an increase in drink and food sales that year but also to an increase in ticket sales the following year, before artist lineups are announced. “That’s because the previous year, they used unsold tickets with our audience of healthcare workers and teachers who had such a brilliant time they saved up and bought the cheaper, pre-release tickets, and that means everybody wins,” Arndt explained. In line with the theme of this issue of Positive Life, true appreciation of art and culture is a forgotten skill, but one we must consciously redevelop not only for our personal enjoyment and enrichment but for the sake of a more inclusive, wellbalanced society.
“Museums are modern temples of mindfulness, of contemplation, if we use them that way,”

Beyond Ownership: Appreciating Our Animal LOOSEN THE REINS.
by Mary Berkery Recently, I attended a horse and dog show and watched animals being celebrated for their beauty, movement, and presence. They stood proudly as rosettes were awarded and champions crowned. Yet alongside the admiration, I noticed something else: leads, harnesses, bridles, bits, halters, and control. I saw horses who wanted to move a little more freely being so managed by their handlers. As I watched, I realized I was looking at my younger self. For many years, I rode horses and participated in the traditional horse world in similar ways. Today, my world is very different. I now partner with my animals at liberty — without ropes, reins, or expectations. They all have freedom to choose. That shift has been magical. I have witnessed firsthand the innate intelligence of creatures so attuned. It has changed me, and my relationship with life. One of my teachers has been a small rescue pony called Tara. For months after arriving at our home, she would not allow physical contact. If I moved too close, she walked away. If I reached out a hand, she disappeared. Slowly, I learned that Tara was not afraid. She simply valued her space. One sunny morning, I saw her
standing alone by the woodland edge. I wanted to approach her and knew that if I carried my usual agenda to touch, connect, or achieve something, she would leave. So instead, I stopped, approached slowly with no agenda, and stood beside her, respecting her need for a little distance. I turned my body in the same direction as hers and looked at the trees she seemed to be watching. Something shifted. A profound stillness filled the air. The birdsong became vivid. The breeze through the leaves seemed alive. Every sound, colour, and sensation appeared heightened. I was not listening only with my ears but with my whole being. Time seemed to disappear, and my body seemed alive with an awareness I had not experienced before. Then Tara reached over and gently nibbled the back of my hand, something she never did before. In that moment, I heard the words clearly within myself: “Welcome to my world.” Tara was showing me the world as she experiences it: embodied, awake, so alive and present, without projecting into the future or revisiting the past. Animals live in a state that many of us spend years seeking through meditation, retreats,
and spiritual practice. They know how to pause, notice, feel, and belong to the living moment. They feel what comes up without judgment or shame. And they offer that invitation freely, if we are willing to meet them without agenda and in mutual respect for each other as sentient beings. What if appreciating our animals meant more than loving or caring for them? What if it meant becoming genuinely curious about what they might show us? What if we were open to learning rather than controlling or correcting from a place of superiority? Perhaps in giving them more choice, respect, and true partnership, we also set ourselves free from the internal halters and limits that we have placed on ourselves. Mary Berkery is an Equine-Assisted Learning Facilitator, Coach, TEDx speaker, and author of Saved by a Horse. She works with Therapists, Coaches, Educators and Creatives in accessing aligned essence, vision and clarity. Her second book, Animals as Teachers, exploring the wisdom of a wider animal world, will be published this autumn. Mary will also be giving a talk in Dublin in the autumn. maryberkery.com

The True Art & Spirit of Hawaiian Healing ALOHA, TRUTH & WISDOM.
by Alison McEvoy I remember my first encounter with Louise Kleu of ‘Hawaiian Healing Ireland’ back in 2014. I signed up to her beginner Lomi Lomi massage training. I can still see the studio on the second floor of what used to be the Dublin Holistic Centre, on South William Street…the brightly coloured sarongs, the Hawaiian leis, and the lavalike strokes which Louise demonstrated as if in a trance. Louise, the teachings and the surrounds, were closing the divide I inherited between body and mind, between divinity and pleasure, that many of us are bequeathed as Irish people of a certain era. I continued training with Louise over the following years. Some of my best moments were on the trainings, retreats, shares, and gatherings that sprung up out of the community that blossomed around her and the teachings. The land of Hawai’i seemed like a mythical place to me. I had the sense that if my feet touched that soil that something might unfold in me that would not unfold on any other place on
earth. I’m still waiting to see this come true! Louise, a native of South Africa, gathered a loyal and loving following in Ireland over the decades. Workshops were always full, retreats packed out. When Louise would come to Dublin, the staff at the Dublin Holistic Centre (of which I was a receptionist back then) would be vying with one another for an appointment slot!
A TIME OF TRANSFORMATION With the arrival of COVID, Louise noticed that many Hawaiian teachers went online. She began connecting with teachers she hadn’t known of before. Louise took the opportunity to delve into their teachings, studying Oli (Hawaiian chant) and Hawaiian Stewardship with Kumu Kekuhi Kealiʻikanakaole, and deepening her spiritual studies with a teacher based in Australia - Kumu Paʻa Julia Nālani. The teachings which this Kumu/ Teacher shared impacted Louise profoundly. “It really changed me, but it also
shone a light on the pieces that were missing from what I was doing and teaching… Even though I had been teaching for so long, I realized that some of the spiritual teachings were missing… I knew what I was doing was powerful, was beautiful, making a difference and healing…but when I was doing Jeana’s course, everything got shaken up.”
ALL THINGS ARE CHANGING AL-WAYS My mother had a phrase which she liked to use, that ‘all things are changing always.’ The seasons, the skies, and every living thing on earth, will change and pass. The same however, goes for our inner worlds, our inner landscapes. We evolve - allow to die and give birth anew to parts of our selves all the time. Old beliefs are replaced. Old habits wear out into new ones. Old perspectives veer in new directions. Allowing this process of inner change is an act of immense faith and courage. We have
“…the brightly coloured sarongs, the Hawaiian leis, and the lava-like strokes which Louise demonstrated as if in a trance."
52
no idea what will come when we let go of the old belief, viewpoint, or habit, and yet let go we must before the new can be fully formed. Listening to Louise, I felt my heart tremble. I would hope I would do the same, that in that crux moment my courage, my principles and my love of truth would prevail. “Initially, I rebelled at the training. I am free flowing, wafty, I let things go. But Kumu Julia is the opposite. This is Hlā au Pō Me Nani, led by Kumu Paʻa Julia Nlā ani, from the Lineage of Kumu Paʻa Nui Lawrence Kalainia Kamani Aki, of Halawa Valley, Molokai. What is so profound about their Lineage, when it is passed down you learn it word for word. It’s strict. There is no room for interpretation. There is a Protocol for everything. Initially, I struggled against the hard container, I struggled with her – but I needed to. It brought me into ‘the line of Truth’ as she would call it.”
THE LINE OF TRUTH Walking the path of Truth is never easy. If it were, there would not be entire spiritual systems designed to guide us and support us in doing so. If we are living out ways of being not in line with who we truly are, what our spirit truly wants from us, it can take time to walk the byways, the highways and make it to the line and then, when we fall, have the humility to stand up and step back in. Louise models something incredibly profound in the human journey where there is courage, faith, and true spiritual resilience present. In the dark of night, perhaps we do realize where we are off course in our lives but to stand in the light of day and do so is incredibly rare not only among family, friends, and colleagues but especially in spiritual circles of prestige.
and the collaboration has continued. Louise, with the help of Kumuʻs mentoring, has restructured her trainings to be in alignment with that line of truth of her Lomi Lomi Nui Lineage of Kahu Abraham Kawaiʻi. Louise and Julia have collaborated in a way that has never been done before. The Traditional Teachings, shared through Kumu Julia, are now one of the steps to becoming a Lomi Lomi Nui practitioner with Hālau Lei Aloha. Training with Louise is a blend of online, live-online, in person and residential retreats. It is an unparalleled experience, immersing you step by step in the practice of profoundly healing bodywork, the thinking of the ancestors who created these practices, and hana/inner work through H’oponopono and the integration of the ancestral teachings.
THE PATH FORWARD Louise invited Kumu Julia to Ireland to teach. Julia’s arrival was momentous, instructing a group Traditional Hoʻoponopono for the first time in Ireland,

The Role Of Energy In Hypnotherapy IT’S ALL ABOUT ENERGY.
by Mary Anderson
When I became a Hypnotherapist, never did I imagine I would be writing something like this. Energy Work is Energy Work, and Hypnotherapy is Hypnotherapy. Well, that’s what I thought. But over the past 15 years of being a Hypnotherapist treating clients, furthering my skills with study, I have learned something very different. That everything breaks down to the basic core of life, ENERGY. With that knowledge, I have been able to work with clients using energy principles within Hypnotherapy and achieve results I hadn’t dreamed possible. Back when I started as a Reiki Master/ Teacher I realized and believed that it was All About Energy. That all energy interacts with all energy, that working at that level allowed me to help clients effect great change in all parts of their lives. But I also felt there was more. That’s when I was drawn to Hypnotherapy. I had always been interested, but now I was ready to engage. For quite a few years, I kept a strict line between Hypnotherapy and Energy Work. However, slowly but surely, Energy Work kept presenting itself as a viable
therapeutic option within Hypnotherapy for my clients. So, how exactly does energy work figure in with Hypnotherapy? In Hypnotherapy, what we are working with are outdated patterns that clients want to change. Examples are fears, phobias, bad habits, and so much more. But because they are rooted in the subconscious as a protection mechanism, that change can be difficult. Why? Because the subconscious believes that keeping that pattern keeps you safe. Without it, your very existence is threatened. Is it true? No, not within our conscious perception. Only in the subconscious perception, is it absolute truth. So how does energy fit in? These patterns are created by the energy of an emotion. That energy travels in specific neural sequences throughout the mind and body to create a pattern that creates the behaviour. To change the pattern, we assist the client in creating new emotional energy that now travels through different neural sequences throughout the mind and body, creating the new behaviour. This is a simplistic explanation, for the purpose of this article.
So, how can we use energy within Hypnotherapy? Using Breath to communicate to the body. Doing a body scan to unlock areas of concern. Using theta waves to clear, heal, and manifest. Moving energy to heal. Using hypnosis audios during an Energy Treatment. These are only a few ways I use Energy Therapy with Hypnotherapy. Energy Therapy and Hypnotherapy are not mutually exclusive. They can be intertwined throughout us within a therapeutic process. Using this approach, I have seen people recover their mobility, release a lifelong crippling fear of cats, and overcome severe low self-esteem to live their dream life. You can help others do the same. If you are an Energy Therapist interested in adding a clinical skill, check out our ad in the magazine.

by Rory O’Connor Rolfing is a hands-on therapy, the aim of which is to allow the body to find an alignment and a way of moving that is easy and feels supported. Naturally, a body that is easily aligned and supported is less likely to be in pain. The practitioner, called a Rolfer, usually lays his or her hands on the client’s skin and, whether making massage-like movements or staying at one location and slowly going deeper, seeks to make and keep contact with the fascia. The fascia is connective tissue which exists right throughout the body, like a web, at all its levels—immediately under the skin, and around the organs for example. Above all the Rolfer seeks to activate the fascia that surrounds all the muscles. It can be highly elastic and mobile, as it is for any dedicated yogi. Or otherwise, it can retain the body’s most limiting habits, the kind that can come to seem like the body’s only way of being. In this way, you could describe Rolfing as a systematic stretching. It is the client who stretches and changes, but the Rolfer is an invaluable help to the process. The fascia is a part of the body which we should appreciate more. As so often, the first step to appreciation is acknowledgment: this slightly neglected part of our body, which can carry habits, but also support bodily change, exists, and through Rolfing we can “talk” with it. The name Rolfing always invites
curiosity. It comes from the method’s originator, Ida Rolf (1896–1981), a strongminded but heart-led New York woman. Her empathy for people with sometimes severe physical limitations, and her curiosity about the body—she was a biochemist by training—led her to the fascia. She herself called what she did Structural Integration. It was founded in the intuition that each part of the body had to be able to express its own function, to be of best use to the whole body. One early Rolfing experience as a client made an impression on me. I was walking along the road after a session, and deeply appreciating being able to see far into the distance—along the whole length of the road, the trees lining it on either side, and into the blue yonder of the sky. It might not sound like much. The point is, I realised in that moment that I had been keeping my head down while walking around for as long as I could remember. Rolfing had given me a valuable change of perspective. What happens after a session is an important part of the experience of Rolfing. That’s when gravity really becomes a factor—literal gravity, as the client resumes standing and moving, and metaphorical “gravity” in the sense of their daily habits. It helps that they will often feel good after a session—relaxed and with an easy energy. But what is truly important is to be conscious of the improvements there have
been. “My shoulder can move more and isn’t as stiff.” “I can now really land on my feet when I walk.” Somehow this noticing and appreciation of what is happening within the body does allow these benefits to sustain themselves. In part, the reason for this is that a deeper connection can be made with the wide space outside the body: through the eyes, for example, in my story, or a tactile connection with the ground while walking. In this way, Rolfing can assist the client’s appreciation also of the wide world.

It focuses on the fascia (connective tissue) but also other structures in the body, such as the bones. This distinguishes its approach from other therapies, such as forms of massage, osteopathy, and chiropractic. Certified Rolfers® use touch and movement to support their clients in improving their posture and movement patterns.
POSITIVE THER APY
25 years strong:
at the heart of your health BRIDGING THE GAP IN OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. by Helena Enright Across Ireland, more and more people are turning to holistic, natural approaches to health, not because they've given up on conventional medicine, but because they're looking for something that sees them as a whole person, not a collection of symptoms to be managed. Systematic Kinesiology offers a powerful set of tools for doing exactly that. And this year, as the Association of Systematic Kinesiology (ASK) celebrates its 25th anniversary, there’s never been a better time to discover what SK can do for you. Many people arrive at our practitioners’ clinics feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or aware that something simply feels “out of balance”, even though regular tests have provided few clear answers.
What Is Systematic Kinesiology? At its heart, Systematic Kinesiology (SK) is a natural healthcare practice that uses gentle muscle testing to identify imbalances within the body. Practitioners assess how structural, nutritional, emotional, and energetic factors may be affecting a person’s wellbeing, and use a range of balancing techniques to support the body’s natural healing processes. During an SK session, the practitioner begins by discussing your health history, current concerns, and wellbeing goals. Within a few minutes of muscle testing the practitioner can explain what may be affecting the body, joining the dots of different symptoms, because we see things differently, through the lens of MCPE. Sessions are tailored to the individual, and clients leave with answers, empowered and a plan. You can watch a video on ASKIreland.ie about what a session looks like. What makes SK distinct is its four-pillar approach: it considers the whole person—mind, body, nutrition, and energy—rather than isolating one area. A practitioner isn't just asking “where does it hurt?”. They get curious about "what does your body need right now, and what is getting in the way of its healing?”
What Can Systematic Kinesiology Actually Help With?
This is often the first question people ask, and the honest answer is: more than most people expect. Because SK addresses the root causes of imbalance rather than chasing individual symptoms, the range of issues it can support is genuinely broad. People seek support for a wide range of issues including stress, fatigue, digestive imbalance, hormonal health, sleep difficulties, emotional overwhelm, recurring pain, low mood, learning challenges, and recovery from burnout. Practitioners work to help clients build resilience and maintain balance before symptoms become more serious.
A Profession You Can Trust Choosing any healthcare practitioner requires trust, and that trust needs to be earned. In SK, it is built through rigorous training, professional standards, and ongoing development. Training in Ireland is led by KinesiologyZone, where Principal Siobhán Guthrie and Vice Principal Sheila O'Hanlon were honoured at this year's Gala for their outstanding contribution to education and mentorship over 25 years. Their dedication has ensured that every practitioner trained through the Academy’s team meets a consistently high standard not just in technical skill, but in the depth of understanding what genuine holistic practice requires. When you choose a practitioner who is a member of the ASK Ireland you are choosing someone who has met those standards, commits to continued professional development, and operates within a framework of ethical accountability.
The Association: Building the Future of Systematic Kinesiology The Association of Systematic Kinesiology is more than an administrative body; it is the backbone of a thriving professional community. And right now, that community is growing with fresh energy and clear direction. The recent 25th Gala Event, held at the Annebrook Hotel in Mullingar, placed this principle centre stage. Speaker after speaker
returned to the same theme: SK is not a last resort; it is a first line of support for anyone who wants to take an active, empowered role in their own wellbeing. The daytime programme featured inspiring presentations from experienced practitioners including Tracey Donnelly, who shared her innovative work in baby milk testing; Mella Britton, who demonstrated how beauty and kinesiology work beautifully together; and Paula Phillips, who explored mindset, wellbeing, and abundance. A new volunteer committee was elected. Chairperson Aoife Kendellen, Treasurer Crystal Culkeen, and Secretary Fiona Brennan lead a team that is already building on strong foundations while bringing new ideas and momentum to the work. Aoife shared the Association’s vision: “ASK Ireland exists to support practitioners, support growth, and support the future of Systematic Kinesiology. Our vision is simple, but powerful—a strong, connected, supportive, well known and established kinesiology community across Ireland.” ASK is committed to helping practitioners become more visible, credible, and sustainable through professional support, shared learning, events, promotion, and collaboration, ensuring SK continues to grow and thrive throughout Ireland. The celebrations were further enhanced by the generous support of companies including Viridian, New Vistas, Oriel, and Pharma Nord, who kindly provided wellness samples and gifts for attendees, reflecting the growing collaboration and shared vision within Ireland’s natural health sector. More than an anniversary, the Gala marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for SK in Ireland, one centred on stronger community, greater visibility, and a shared vision for the future of natural healthcare.

outrun the capacity of many people's bodies to keep up, and for a significant number, our overwhelmed healthcare system offers management rather than resolution. This is not a criticism of medicine. It is an honest acknowledgement that there is a gap and SK sits in that gap with practical tools and support. One of the most important aspects of this practice is its emphasis on early intervention. Kinesiology helps individuals identify stress, nutritional imbalance, and emotional load before they become chronic problems.

Start Your Own Journey Introduction to SK eCourse Today’s health crisis needs an approach that helps address chronic, multifactorial dysfunction that often develops over decades. If making lifestyle changes were easy, everyone would change. But there are things that can be simple—education is key, so that you know what to do, why to do it, and have the right tools to facilitate change. When we learn how to work with the body, guided by the body’s own wisdom, then making changes becomes easier. Many of our students have been helped because of SK and want to learn more. To get started; to help your family and friends, there’s the Balanced Health Course. Available in six locations it is where everyone starts the in-person
training—a 3-month part-time course; but you can also get started today with our Introductory eCourse at kinesiologyzone. com/freecourse.
If You Are a Practitioner - This Is Your Moment If you are a trained Systematic Kinesiologist and not a current member of ASK, now is a great time to get involved. An exciting development is the launch of regional Hubs, local communities designed to bring practitioners together, reduce isolation, and create real opportunities for growth. Chairperson Aoife said at the Gala: “When you connect with each other, you don’t just add opportunity, you multiply it.” Each practitioner plays an important role in their communities, and when those strengths come together, something powerful happens. There has never been a more exciting time to get involved. The next chapter has begun. In a world where so many people are searching for solutions to chronic health issues, Systematic Kinesiology offers something increasingly valuable: a way of listening to the body before it has to shout.

REST, RELAX & REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE.
by Alison McEvoy
‘Your Friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. … When you part from your friend you grieve not For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, As the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain. And let there be no purpose in friendship Save the deepening of the Spirit. (On Friendship, by Kahil Gibran) For those of us who did not grow up under a loving gaze of another, receiving all the deepening of Spirit and emotional nourishment from human beings that we could, we find friendship elsewhere along the way. On the journey of seeking, losing our way and finding ourselves once again, we find harbours of friendship which carry us along. Whether books, practices, our talents…these become our friends – they answer our needs. For me, yoga nidra is the longest running friend I have found. It gave me a place to rest that felt watched over. It gave me a place to dream that felt inspired and creative. It gave me a place to spend time when nothing else called to my imagination. It gave me a pathway into myself when my interiority called out to me.
60
YOGA NIDRA & YOU It can do all of this for you too. It can answer an abundance of needs in an abundance of ways. The need for rest that restores deep and fast. The need for relaxation where tension has reigned for too long. The need to be swayed into sleep where you can’t find a way out of thought and into the tired body. The need to be reconnected with your own creative power. The need to remember who you are and why you are here. The need for tenderness. The need for sweetness. The need for awakening to love within. Lying down to rest is good, yoga nidra is so much more. Yoga Nidra is true rest, medicine for the body, the nervous system, the mind and the heart. Imagine…you take a few moments to create a sweet, little nest to lie in. You tend to the comfort of each of the limbs, really noticing what comfort is and how ease feels. You tenderly roll up a little blanket or towel just for the back of your knees, so they are not overstretched at the back. The wrists might need a little cushion under each, to make sure the hands are not hanging or pulling on the arm. The head and neck receive support with a pillow or rolled up blanket. The back and spine is cushioned on blankets or, luxury of luxuries, a sheepskin. The heart sinks earthwards and you remember you are
on planet Earth, a planet among planets among universes, and your heart connects you to it all. I used to just roll out a mat and lie down in the early years but over time, the return to self-care, love and sweetness elaborated itself into a ritual with no thinking, where it made sense to tend to myself in this way. There have been periods in my life, post-motherhood for example, where my nervous system was so wound up from lack of sleep and other pressures, where my mind kept telling me I didn’t have time. I didn’t argue with myself. Slowly, I allowed the voice of tension and stress to keep raging inside and simply let my body take over and lay itself down to rest - to be guided by the yoga of nidra. In short, I did it anyways. Just as the motto goes ‘feel the fear and do it anyways’, my motto became ‘hear the “I can’t” and do it anyways.’

fire era
Summer 2026 reflects a major collective turning point shaped by strong Air and Fire energy. Air signs emphasise communication, technology, intellect, networking, and social systems, while Fire signs amplify action, reinvention, passion, creativity, and identity. Together, they create an atmosphere of speed, experimentation, innovation, and rapid change. However, the lack of strong Earth energy may contribute to instability, burnout, nervous system exhaustion, and difficulty staying grounded. Collectively, society may struggle to balance technological progress with emotional presence, embodiment, and meaningful human connection. One of the defining influences of this period is Uranus in Gemini (April 2026-2033), which accelerates developments in communication, education, transportation, artificial intelligence, and digital technology. Summer 2026 intensifies themes of rapid learning, intellectual experimentation, and innovation. While this transit supports breakthroughs and unconventional thinking, it may also increase information overload, distraction, misinformation, and social fragmentation. The pace of life speeds up dramatically, pushing individuals and collective systems to adapt quickly to changing realities. At the same time, Saturn and Neptune in Aries since February signal the collapse of outdated identities, beliefs, and collective illusions. Neptune dissolves what is no longer sustainable, while Saturn demands restructuring and accountability. In Aries, this encourages

people to redefine themselves with greater courage, independence, and authenticity. Many may experience existential questioning as old goals, careers, or identities lose meaning, creating a strong desire to build lives aligned with deeper values rather than external expectations. Meanwhile, Pluto in Aquarius since 2023-24 continues transforming collective systems, technology, communities, and power structures. This transit highlights both the potential and shadow side of technological advancement, intensifying discussions around artificial intelligence, digital identity, online influence, and collective power. Society may increasingly move toward decentralised systems, new forms of community, and alternative ways of organising collective life. Jupiter in Leo (June 2026-July 2027) Amid these highly intellectual and future-oriented transits, Jupiter in Leo brings creativity, visibility, confidence, and heart-centred expression into the collective atmosphere. Jupiter in Leo encourages people to reconnect with joy, artistry, leadership, and authentic self-expression. Creativity becomes a form of empowerment and resistance against emotional numbness or excessive digital detachment. Many may feel inspired to create, teach, perform, or step more confidently into public spaces.
who they are beyond external validation and performative identity. This eclipse may inspire creative breakthroughs, new beginnings, and greater self-expression, while also exposing the shadow side of ego, pride, and attention-seeking culture. The Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on August 28th brings a more emotional and introspective atmosphere, emphasising endings, emotional release, spirituality, healing, and surrender. Many people may feel emotionally overwhelmed or exhausted after the intensity of the summer, creating a need for retreat, reflection, and emotional recalibration.

Nodal shift: Aquarius/Leo The nodal shift occurring in late July 2026 further reinforces these themes. The South Node in Leo encourages the release of ego-driven patterns and validationseeking behaviour, while the North Node in Aquarius points toward collective focus through collaboration, innovation, community, and shared vision. Together, these transits suggest that Summer 2026 marks the beginning of a new era focused on balancing individuality with collective responsibility while remaining emotionally human within rapid technological and societal change.
